I knew the day would come when I would have to see them again. I just hope this doesn't have a negative impact on me. After all, they're the ones responsible for my demons, scars, and gruesome past. However, we clearly cannot have it all in this life.
While waiting for Leonard to respond, I asked, "When?" while looking forward. His gaze was drawn to the side of my face, as if he was trying to figure out what I was thinking.
"I don't know, but the elders told me to let you know," he admitted truthfully. When I heard that, I got up from my bench and grabbed my boxing gloves before leaving the gym.
"You know I can train them in your place," Leonard said as he blocked my path and grabbed my shoulders.
"The pack must always come first," I said as I met his gaze.
"Of course I am aware of that, Nikky. But I'm sure you realize I'm just concerned about you. I mean, you'll have to confront them, your past... and I'm not—"
"It is my responsibility," I interrupted Leonard before he could finish his sentence.
Even after I pushed his hands away from my shoulders and sidestepped him, he persisted. He obstructed my path once more.
I frowned and looked at him, thinking irritably that this was starting to irritate me. "Leonard, let me go," I said with a deadly glare.
He turned to face me and remained motionless, still trying to persuade me that I didn't have to face my previous pack. "I won't be held accountable for my actions," I growled lowly at him. That was, indeed, a warning.
Leonard is well aware that I have the worst temper when it comes to pack training. He is aware that when I accepted this responsibility, I promised to help any werewolf pack in need for any reason. I am a pack trainer and fighter, as well as one of the best in the supernatural realm and werewolf society.
My past will not hold me back.
When he realized I wasn't joking, he looked defeated. "Are you going to be okay?" He asked a serious question.
"Without a doubt. I'm perfectly fine. Even if I had to confront my former family, nothing would change. Leonard, you and Beatrice and Dad are now part of my family. They are no longer my relatives since the day they punished me with their own hands. I don't consider them to be one." He appeared to be almost satisfied with my response. "What about him?" he inquired.
Him. As I stared at Leonard, I was thinking incoherently.
When he noticed my puzzled expression, he clarified, "Samson, you're supposed to be mate."
Samson, of course.
In my head, I laughed. How did I manage to forget about my true pal? That jerk has long since faded from my memory. He was now nothing to me. No one can hold it against me if I stop experiencing the mate link. I'm not sure if it still exists, but I'm not getting any feelings or energy from Samson.
I used to feel something after his rejection, but not anymore. Nothing.
"And what about him? That guy can't do anything. Remember how he preferred my sister to me? Why would I allow him to have any effect on me? To be honest, I'm sick of him." I responded.
"But will you be okay if you see him and your sister?" Leonard then asks me another question.
I looked him in the eyes and said, "Would you be okay if I broke your bone? I've already told you, Leonard, that I'm sick of him."
Nothing beats them seeing me as someone strong and independent, unlike the girl they used to abuse and punish.
When I replied, Leonard gave me a satisfied look. He then gave me assurance and comfort "If anything happens, please contact me. Please notify me, and I will be there." I smiled at his thoughtfulness.
He assisted me in defeating my demons. Aside from Serenity, I drew a lot of my strength from them as well. My household. They gave me a house—or, more accurately, a home. Nothing, not my background, not my original family, will ever be able to replace them.
In the mirror, I see full black hair with a few white strands, vibrant violet eyes, and pale skin with light scarring. My past and present have scarred every inch of my body. But Beatrice made sure I ate three times a day for the first two years of my Mountain Black Pack residency. She was right when she said I was bony. They truly starved me, but the Knights saved my life. And now I have a fit and lean physique.
Regardless, I have to tell myself that my real family brought me to my current family—the family I always wanted to have—whether they were blood relatives or not.
Even now, when I'm alone and silent in the Mountain Black Pack, words from that night reverberate in my head. The fact that some things happen for a reason—good or bad—does not excuse their behavior, and I will teach them how to mistreat and torture others solely by using themselves. Despite my previous promise not to exact vengeance, I still intend to teach them a lesson. Some lessons that might make them realize how much harm they have caused me.
After all, confronting my past is not as terrifying as confronting those lethal rogues, which I have done numerous times. Those mindless beings encourage me to slaughter whatever comes my way.
Before walking away, I took a few more looks in the mirror. Then I put on a black leather jacket. I left my room to go to the courtroom of the elders, where all the alphas meet the elders. Even though I could always meet with Leonard and force him to take over training my previous pack, doing so would expose my weakness.
I despise frailty. I vowed to Serenity that I would never be frail. I put in a lot of effort to get this job, so I'm not going to give it up because of them.
Before opening the massive golden doors for me, the guards on the sides bowed their heads in awe. I took a deep breath before entering the room for another session.
I said, 'Serenity,' using mindlink.
'Yes?' My wolf quickly responded.
'What do you think is causing all of this to happen? My life has been fine and peaceful without them. So, why did fate take this unexpected turn?' I let go. I feel so at ease asking my wolf questions that have been bothering me.
'I'm not sure either, Nikky. But one thing is certain: you must continue. Continue until you figure out why this is happening.'
Serenity is correct. I need to figure out why Moon Goddess is leading me back to my past.
As I walked into the courtroom, the echoing sound of my black, thick, suede shoes clicking against the tiled floor reverberated throughout the space. I was aware of the way in which I captured the attention of each and every person. I kept my strength, height, and an intimidating posture while I observed the people who were in the room. Dad and Beatrice are two of the four seniors who are seated at the high table in the front, which has four guards standing on either side of them.
Simply by raising my eyebrows, I asked Elder Ruby to explain the reason why I ought to be here in the first place. Almost immediately, she grasped what I meant by saying that. Now, my relationship with this elder is one that is very formal in nature. Taking into consideration the incident from that day, in which I came dangerously close to killing her, she became extremely disciplined around me. She avoided talking to me unless it was absolutely necessary, like when we were in court. It's highly likely and absolutely certain that she was still terrified of me.
Elder Ruby passed a folder to a security officer, and the officer then passed it to me. There are reports and maps regarding the rogue attack that was carried out by the alpha of the Nightcrawler Pack contained within the papers that are contained within the folder.
"You need to get to the bottom of the problem." It seemed to me that she was using a more formal tone.
I acknowledged her with a nod and kept my attention fixed on her while I re-filed the documents inside the folder. After that, I directed my attention to the seasoned person who was seated next to her.
Before continuing, Elder Paul made the following remark to the group: "I know you don't need me to tell you that something weird is happening." "Every day, the scoundrels amass more strength and add more members to their ranks. I have put a lot of effort into determining the cause of their rising population, but to no avail. The Nightcrawler Pack has been attacked by them on three separate occasions. They almost give off the impression that they are looking for something. When a group of rogues attacks a pack of werewolves, they almost always go straight for the kill because there is no second chance. Nevertheless, when they attacked the Nightcrawler Pack, they did not kill anyone; rather, they struck three times in rapid succession as if they were waiting for something. This gave the impression that they were looking for something." Elder Paul paused for a moment and then continued speaking after taking a deep breath. I kept my mouth shut and continued to pay attention. He concluded by saying, "Within the Nightcrawler Pack, find out what's going on and let us know as soon as possible," to which I nodded in agreement before bowing and departing.
Elder Ruby called out my name just as I was about to walk out of the double doors, and I immediately stopped. I came to a stop in the middle of my walk and turned to face her. "Don't kill anyone," she cautioned me as I looked in her direction.
We were engulfed in utter silence at that point.
After that, I gave her a smirk and sneered in an icy manner before turning my full back to the more senior person and saying, "I am sorry, but I cannot make any promises to you. When I am given the opportunity, I go on the offensive. If it were necessary for me to kill, I certainly would. And there was a significant possibility that I might end up murdering someone because it was my hometown, my history, and my worst nightmare all rolled into one "I remarked as I walked away from her while simultaneously turning my back on her.
"But Nikky—" I stopped talking to her.
"Silence Elder Ruby. Let me have a sane trip, "I responded while keeping my back to her. "You shouldn't be as concerned as you are right now. I am a killer, but I only do it when it's absolutely necessary." I continued.
I loaded all of my belongings into the car that was provided to me for the duration of this trip. When I was about to close the door, my attention was drawn to Dad, Beatrice, and Leonard. For a variety of reasons, I've decided to bring Leonard along with me on this mission. The first goal is to assist me in taming my explosive temper and rage. The second objective is to prevent my monster, Serenity, from showing up at inappropriate times. And finally, to prevent me from killing someone else by any means necessary.
Because of the same thing, Elder Ruby and a few other warriors will be traveling with me as well.
Beatrice asked me to "please come back safely, honey," as she hugged me and then continued her statement. I wrapped my arms around her and buried my face in the crook of her neck as I hugged her. It is comforting to know that someone will be there to greet you when you get back. It was wonderful to be able to sense the love and care that was provided by those who actually mean it.
After releasing her grip and turning around to face me, she said, "Promise me."
After that, I responded with the words "I promise."
Then I turned my head to the other side to see Lionel. He gave me a pat on the head and then turned to face me while saying, "Until then, my courageous Nikky." The way he behaved made me privately chuckle. The majority of the time, he does it as a sign of his affection.
After that, I turned my head to look at Leonard. "It's time to go, brother," I told him.
The car was started by a warrior, and it then drove past Beatrice, who was smiling, and Lionel, who was waving. A grin began to appear on my face... a smile that vanished almost instantly as I made my way back to the road that led to my history. I turned around one final time and caught a glimpse of my family from the back.
"Are you ready to show them who you really are? Are you prepared to demonstrate to them that the girl they used to control no longer exists in you? I heard Serenity's voice in my head. The hatred that she felt was very clear in the way that she spoke. This beast absolutely still despises my previous family, and I feel the same way about them. The response I got from my wolf made me smile to myself.
She desires their blood, and I will slake her thirst tenfold if she has her way.
Fuck it. I have the urge to kill.
Someone with half-blood from two species must be united. All evil will be defeated by a person who is half-blood from two species.
The voice is deep and chills my bones, especially when it calls my name... “Nikky.”
A god must be a half-blood of two species. That person is far too powerful, far too strong—deserving of rule.
'Who in the world was that? 'From where is this voice coming?' My thoughts were jumbled, and I was unsure of what I had just heard.
That someone is undoubtedly more powerful than the creators...
I opened my eyes after hearing a strange voice in my dream say, "Nikky," to find my brother Leonard in the left front seat of the car.
"Is everything all right?" he wondered. I called several times, but you didn't answer," I could tell he was concerned as I looked into his eyes. Because I can usually respond immediately when my name is called.
"Was this another nightmare?" He continued his question without waiting for my response.
Another nightmare... I had to think about it for a while before I realized what he meant.
My terror; the nightmares that persisted in my mind, nightmares brought on by my previous family.
My family's nightmares that I couldn't get out of my head.
"I am fine," I finally said, but my voice was shaking.
I peered through the window to see if we were already close to our destination. When I saw the familiar yet strange vegetation, I knew we had entered their territory.
"Commander, we have arrived in the pack's forest." The guard agreed with my assumption.
Elder Ruby's car was visible in the distance. Yes, they are paving the way. In addition, another car was following this one. I leaned back in my seat and covered my brow.
"Are you sure everything is okay, Nikky?" Leonard restated his point. I caught his worried expression in the rearview mirror.
"Yeah, no need to worry about me," I assured him.
I turned my head to look out the car window to see how fast we were moving through the forest. 'Serenity,' I mentally yelled. It's also known as mind-linking.
'The voice from my dream...', Serenity responded immediately. Did you figure out who that voice belonged to? Did you recognize it? 'Did you hear everything he said?'
I asked those questions without pausing. 'Nikky, I'm starting to worry. Why are you so affected? Are you sure you're okay? And what voice are you talking about?' Serenity inquired, worried.
That has to be incorrect. Serenity didn't hear the voice. How could that be? She is my wolf, so she should be aware of what is going on.
“Nevermind. I'm fine. "You don't need to be concerned," I just said before putting her out of my mind.
To be honest, I can't get that voice out of my head, especially now that I've realized my beast didn't hear it. Something must be wrong if Serenity did not hear the voice.
But now I'm feeling it even more. I sensed trouble as I prepared to confirm by calling Serenity again.
Rouges.
I'll never forget how it felt to be in their company. Their presence is strong, and I know there are about twenty of them in the forest near the pack's boundary.
I called out, "Leonard!"
"Where have they gone? We must never lose sight of our objectives." He must have sensed them because he was asking.
"I'm sure they're in the woods near the border." I quickly responded.
The guard came to a halt in front of the car. Then I immediately got out of it. As I watched them one by one, I could see the rogues in their wolves. They vanished one by one.
"Are you all right?" Leonard enquired.
I yelled to him as I ran toward the rogues, "I got this! I'll see you at the packhouse, vice-commander."
"OK, commander, please take care!" He said as soon as I took off.
As the wind caressed my face, I closed my eyes and smiled. My entire body was tingling with excitement. This is happiness. I haven't touched their blood in a long time. I smirked, thinking, 'I hope my prey doesn't let me down.' Then I quickened my pace.
There were no guards as I entered the forest's bordering entrance, confirming my suspicion about the Nightcrawler Pack—that it must have been really bad to be here these days. I kept moving while listening to the rogues' heartbeats. I know they're just lurking nearby, ready to strike at any moment.
"Don't you realize your heartbeats are too loud? Come out, my dear rogues! Face me!" I muttered, aware that they could hear me. But all I got was silence in response.
I crept up behind one of them, dug my palm into his back, and tore out his heart before he could react.
"Why would some of you even dare to shift to their host form?" I muttered. Pathetic.” The body with the hole in its back fell to the ground.
Everyone heard the loud thud it made.
After witnessing one of their own perish, the rogues began to emerge one by one. “What? Did you finally realize that silence isn't the best response?" I threw the heart to the ground and grinned menacingly.
I moved forward and stepped on the heart with my black boots. The rogues looked on in horror as I did it, and I was so pleased with their reactions. I didn't care if blood splattered all over my jeans or my shoe.
"This is so much better," I said, still staring at the broken heart.
I needed their blood to live and to be satisfied. They groaned when I suddenly moved. I could hear their audible gasps. I laughed and took a fighting stance. These demons must be terrified at this point. I had no idea they had senses for fear, terror, and doom.
"Come give me some excitement," I bravely challenged them. The rogues attack me one by one. They appeared to be aggressive.
Their eyes were yearning for death—my death. 'Crave for it, and I'll give it to each of you!' I smiled to myself.
After many hours, I stood looking up at the sky, surrounded by dead rogues with unsavory expressions. Their blood was dripping all over this dead silent forest. I thought I was the only one alive here. My clothes and clawed hands were drenched in blood. Then I closed my eyes in pleasure.
"Never thought it'd be this much fun," I exhaled. The wind caressed my skin and made my hair sway.
My joy was cut short by a whimper, and I turned to face the man who was about to pass out. I kept this one rogue alive so that I could get answers to all my questions. Then I started asking questions.
"What are your plans for this pack? Tell me!" I interrogated the rogue. But all I got was a loud groan in response. I'm sure he's having trouble thinking straight right now. And I'm sure he won't mind if I kill him now.
Despite the fact that I enjoy killing and fighting, I am wise enough to leave one person alive. As I approached him, he widened his eyes in fear. I saw how hard he tried to avoid me.
"Think twice before conquering more lands. You didn't want this to happen again." I said this while kneeling in front of him, holding his trembling shoulder. Pain was all over his nearly-dead body.
I sighed as I swung the nearly-dead rogue onto my shoulder and turned to face the bodies on the ground. "I guess it'll be a long time before all of them decay."
Then I walked away, leaving a blood trail in my wake.
