Chapter 2

Trent was stunned, quickly trying to defend himself. "There's nothing between Haley and me. Darling, you have to believe me. I care about her because I care about you. How can you talk about divorce over something like this?"

I could see the guilt written all over his face.

Trent had just let the truth slip.

I looked at him calmly and asked, "Did I say that I want to divorce because of that?"

Trent's face immediately went rigid.

I didn't want to argue with him any longer, so I went straight into the bedroom and shut the door behind me.

All I wanted now was to divorce him as soon as possible. Just seeing him made me feel sick.

But the court wouldn't open until Monday.

The next day, the police came knocking.

Haley had fled after the hit-and-run and was now hiding.

Trent was more panicked than I was.

"Officer, is there some misunderstanding? Could the driver not have been Haley?"

Even at this point, he was still trying to find a way to exonerate Haley.

I thought, "Doesn't he know that there were cameras at intersections?"

The officer told him flat out that the surveillance footage showed Haley behind the wheel.

Trent slumped onto the sofa in frustration.

The police turned to me and said, "We checked her call records. After the accident last night, she called you. Do you know where she might be?"

I feigned sadness and replied, "Officer, if I had known Haley really hit someone last night, I would have persuaded her not to run. But now, I really don't know where she is. Please trust me, if I see her, I will definitely urge her to turn herself in."

The officers took my statement and then left.

Trent angrily grabbed my hand, saying, "I told you to check on Haley last night, but you didn't go. Now look what's happened!"

I shot back, "And what would that have changed? Was I supposed to take the blame for her?"

"You weren't drinking last night, so you wouldn't have gone to jail if you took the blame."

He was speaking the exact same words he had in my previous life.

I let out a cold sneer and confronted him. "What's the matter? Are you worried about your lover and your baby?"

Trent's eyes widened in shock. "What nonsense are you spouting?"

"You know perfectly well whether I'm spouting nonsense or not. On Monday, we'll go to the courthouse to file for divorce. If not, I'll sue for divorce. You're the one at fault here, and if I file a lawsuit, you'll walk away with nothing."

Trent's face twisted in anger.

Then, as if something had occurred to him, he suddenly laughed.

Chapter 3

Trent sneered and said, "Elissa, you're actually slandering me just to get a divorce. I bet you've got a lover on the side, which is why you're so eager to leave me, isn't it?

"I've suspected for a long time that you've been messing around with that security guard. If you want a divorce, fine, but don't expect to get a single penny from me."

I thought to myself, "How ridiculous."

To make me leave with nothing, he's actually turning the tables and trying to slander me."

I slapped him hard across the face.

"Trent, do you have any proof that I've cheated?

I have evidence of your affair with Haley. The child in Haley's belly is proof of your infidelity. Don't you know that even if the child isn't born yet, a DNA test can still be done?

"I'm already giving you a break by not insisting you leave with nothing, so don't push your luck."

I turned and left, ignoring Trent's furious expression.

That night, I packed my things and moved out.

Before leaving, I reminded him once more, "See you at the courthouse on the morning of the sixth."

At that time, he was busy frantically redialing Haley's number.

As I stepped out the door, I ran into two women.

One was in her twenties, the other in her fifties.

I remembered who they were.

In my previous life, they had come to my door at this exact same time.

They were the family members of the person Haley had run over.

In my previous life, the victim's mother had lost control of her emotions and rushed at me, pinning me to the ground and beating me.

At the time, I knew Haley was indeed guilty, so I didn't resist, just protecting my head.

In my previous life, Trent had stayed hidden in the room and didn't come out. Later, he told me he was wearing headphones and didn't hear what was happening outside.

This time, the victim's mother also lunged at me. She grabbed my collar, hysterically demanding, "Where is that woman?"

Seeing the situation escalate, Trent quickly shut the door.

"She hit my daughter and then just ran off, not caring whether she lived or died.

"My daughter is still lying in the hospital, and the doctors said if she had been brought in any later, she wouldn't have made it."

She raised her hand to hit me, but someone stopped her.

The person holding her back was my best friend, Cheryl Stanley.

In my previous life, she had also protected me at this very moment.

"Ma'am, please calm down. It was Haley who hit your daughter, not Elissa."

The other woman, who looked like the victim's sister, also tried to calm her mother down. "Mom, let's go back. My sister still needs us to take care of her!"

The angry woman wiped her tears and said, "For the sake of our benefactor, I'll let you off this time. But you better make sure your sister turns herself in and faces the law. She can't run forever."

She then turned to Cheryl, holding her hand. "Thank you! Thank you for saving my daughter."

Chapter 4

After they left, I turned to Cheryl and thanked her.

"There's no need to thank me." Cheryl waved her hands.

"I'm not just thanking you for this, but also for what you did last night."

Cheryl frowned and asked, "You're the one who saved that woman's daughter! You called me to help... so why didn't you want me to tell them?"

Thanks to my memories from before, I knew that the accident happened near Cheryl's house.

In my previous life, the victim had died because she didn't receive treatment in time.

Last night, as soon as I got home, I contacted Cheryl.

I only asked her to call an ambulance and didn't want her to show up in person.

Fortunately, this time, we acted quickly, and the victim survived after a night of emergency care.

At the time, I instructed Cheryl not to tell anyone that I had asked her to call the ambulance, not even the police.

Facing Cheryl's confusion, I sighed, "It's a long story."

She glanced at the luggage in my hand and asked, "Where are you going? Back to your parents' house?"

I shook my head.

"I'm divorcing Trent!"

We found a café and sat down.

I told Cheryl about my rebirth.

After hearing the story, she was furious, cursing Trent and Haley with such intensity that it drew stares from all the people around us.

Her words brought an unexpected sense of relief to my heart.

"Do you really believe me? Aren't you afraid I made it up or that I'm just mentally unstable?" I asked, testing her.

She downed her coffee in one gulp, her eyes full of trust. "Of course, I believe you! We've been best friends for so many years. I know when you're telling the truth."

I hugged her, deeply moved.

I was incredibly grateful to have a friend who trusted me so completely, especially after my sister and husband had both betrayed me.

It was surprising how friendship had proven more reliable than either love or family.

Cheryl ordered another cup of coffee.

"So, what's your plan now?" she asked.
