Lexi's pov
“YOU?!” They both proclaimed in blatant disgust.
I wasn't pleased either but ignored them both as Lilly shooed them from my room by waving the feather duster at them and closed both doors.
Clenching my fists, my jaw twitched as I turned to the housekeeper.
“Sorry Miss, those two can be obnoxious and rude,” she commented.
Nodding, I told her that I was very much aware.
Lilly continued strolling through my room and pointed out the ensuite along with the door to my closet.
“The Alpha had all your clothes pressed and hung for you when they arrived in boxes. All your bathing necessities are in the cabinet in the facilities. Dinner is at six each day and you are expected to be dressed appropriately. The Alpha is a stickler for promptness and etiquette,” she muttered and I raised my blonde brow.
“So no elbows on the table and make sure to use the correct fork, that's what you are implying,” I asked in humor.
Nodding briskly she told me, “ Oh yes, dear, you don't want to get on the Alpha's bad side nor his son's.
Swallowing uncomfortably I exhaled and answered, “Gotcha.”
“I will leave you so you can relax. If you need me for anything just use that pull cord on the wall there and I will come,” she asserted as she pointed at a length of velvet material with golden tassels on it.
“Thank you, Lilly.”
She smiled, nodded, and scurried from my room.
Sitting on the edge of my bed I exhaled deeply.
“Great, my new dad is a control freak and my step-siblings are my worst bullies. Mother what have you done to us,” I muttered and rubbed my eyes as memories of the evil brothers began flooding my brain.
I knew them from my old pack house school…
Nathan and Nolan Sparks were famous bad boys in my school. They are handsome of course and they never slept with the same girl twice, all the girls at my old school wished to date them at least once.
I didn’t have much interest in the popular brothers, and neither did I feel they would have any interest in me since I was a typical nerd due to having my nose always buried in my textbooks.
Until that fateful day when Rose asked me to help her take revenge on them both.
“In hindsight, I should have refused,” I mused.
Anyway Rose wanted to hook up with the two brothers again, but they were not interested in her but showed their interest in me presumably.
Rose was angry because she thought she was much more pretty than I was, such a bitch.
She told me that they dumped her after having a threesome and she wanted revenge. Asking me to please ask them out to the pack house bar. Since my mom waitressed there she figured that I could easily sneak in.
It sounded like a stupid plan yet I followed through with it. When the brothers both agreed to meet me I was surprised.
That night in the bar Rose secretly filmed the video of the two brothers being stood up and posted it on the Pack House School F******k page typing that I had stood up the two sparkling gemstones of the school.
The two brothers thought this prank was done by me, so they started bullying me terribly.
They were assholes and called me horrible names and spread rumors. Other students began following suit telling me I was stuck up and stupid if I thought I was better than the brothers. I became more introverted and just focused more on my schoolwork.
Rose and I talked less and I became an outcast. She and I reconciled eventually but the gray cloud over me had never faded.
Frowning over my thoughts I stood and headed into my walk-in closet.
“Some crappy fairy tale, eh, Wolf,” I muttered to Nova.
She huffed in my mind and remained silent.
“You are lucky that you haven't any issues,” I snapped at her and got a low growl in reply.
Rummaging through the clothes I had purchased with my mom I also noticed several other items that I knew I hadn't chosen.
Taking out a short red cocktail dress my brow furrowed seeing the low neckline and high slits on both sides.
“Pervert alert,” I muttered as I hung it back on the rack.
Chewing on my lip I was curious about what my new stepdad considered proper attire.
Finding a nice blouse and pair of dress pants I figured it was proper enough and went to change. It was already five forty and I was famished.
“Hope I don't lose my appetite having to be in the presence of the sparkle brothers,” I snickered and entered my bathroom.
Several minutes later I heard a knock at my door and went to open it.
My mom stood there smiling and dressed in a stunning gown.
“Wow, you look fabulous,” I commented as she laughed and did a full circle for me.
“Johnathan asked me to wear it for dinner. He has fabulous taste,” she preened then glanced at what I was wearing.
Suddenly pouting she asked me if I had a gown.
“Nope, just an inappropriate cocktail dress that I wouldn't be caught dead in. This outfit is comfortable and will do,” I stated firmly.
She shrugged and told me she was going to escort me to the dining room.
Tucking my hand in hers we headed down the stairs and she filled me in on the layout of the main floor.
Mentally I kept track of everything she was telling me as we entered the dining room and all the men were standing there waiting for us.
“Boys this lovely young lady is your new step-sister, Lexi,” Johnathan announced. I gave them an awkward wave.
I refused to even acknowledge their existence. Keeping my eyes from either of them I made my way to the empty chair I noticed.
“Let me get that for you,” Nathan said through pinched lips.
Glancing up at him as I sat I saw his eyes focused down my blouse and I scooted the chair from his hands and gave him a curt, “Thanks.”
Nathan gave me a smirk and returned to his seat.
The kitchen staff brought out the meal and everyone got their plates filled with succulent items.
As I continued to ignore my step-siblings Johnathan asked me how old I was.
“I'm seventeen sir and will turn eighteen in a couple of months,” I replied.
He nodded and wiped his mouth with his cloth napkin.
“Nathan and Nolan used to live with their mother at your old pack for a time, maybe you know each other or have met before,” he probed.
Glancing up at both of them my brow creased and I shook my head not answering him with words and instead took a bite of my braised chicken.
“You can go to my pack school Lexi, the boys can take you tomorrow since classes have resumed and you can finish your senior year here,” he added.
Swallowing uncomfortably I nodded.
“Okay sir,” I replied meekly.
After dinner was finished I asked to be excused, planning to retreat to my room.
“Honey, don't you want to spend time together with me and your new family,” my mom asked.
Johnathan interrupted her and said, “ Jessica, she's already experienced enough, let her decompress.”
Thanking him for understanding I hurried back to the safety of my room. Reaching the stairs I heard Nolan speak.
“Lilly will wake you up in the morning so you will have ample time to get ready and we will transport you to the school.”
Glancing over at him I nodded and continued up the stairs.
Finding more clothing items in the wall-length dresser I went to change into some pajamas. It was still early but I wanted to be bright-eyed and fresh for my first day in my new classes.
My bed was comfortable and soon I was sawing logs. Sometime during the night, I awoke with a dry mouth and wanted a glass of water.
Checking for a clock I didn't see one in my room anywhere. Glancing out my window and seeing the night sky I figured it was too late to rouse Lilly.
Scooting out of bed in a sleepy state I shuffled myself out of my room and used my wolf vision to find the kitchen.
Being as quiet as I could I tiptoed past the guy's bedroom and hurried to the staircase.
Finding the kitchen thanks to my mom's description I found a glass and filled it with ice water from the refrigerator.
After washing the glass and returning to the cabinet I hurried back to my room.
Sneaking into my room I closed the door softly and turned to return to my bed.
The lamp on my nightstand flicked on and both Nathan and Nolan were standing in my room.
“Thanks for the heads up,” I scolded my wolf Nova as I crossed my arms over my chest and eyed the pair.
Lexi's pov
“Look brother little Alexandria is that nerd, Lexi,” Nathan snarled.
My heart was racing and my throat became dry again.
“Leave my room. You both shouldn't be in here,” I protested as they eyed me with insensitivity. Turning toward the door I was going to leave but Nolan swung me around and pinned me against it instead.
Running his finger down my neck, his lip curled.
“Tell me Lexi, why didn't you tell your mom and my father that you were acquainted with us both and asked us to meet for a hook-up?”
Looking up at his light brown eyes I shook my head.
“I didn't want to hook up with either of you. It was for Rose. It's not my fault you both are man whores and screw anything that shows interest,” I asserted, causing Nathan to shove my shoulder into the molding of my doors. It hurt but I was seething from their accusations.
“What if I told your father how his sons are just a couple of insensitive boy sluts that fuck and dump girls just for the fun of it,” I added with a hiss of venom.
“My brother and I are future Alpha’s and our dad will choose one of us when we find our mate to take over the pack. When that happens we will be able to do anything we like to you,” Nathan growled, flashing me his wolf eyes for intimidation.
Standing my ground I refused to back down and he chuckled as his eyes trailed down my heaving cleavage.
Covering my pajama-clad chest I called him a pervert making him shake his head at me.
Nolan punched his arm and gestured for him to let me go. Nathan backed off and I ran further into my room as they opened the door.
Peeking his head back inside Nolan said, “Be downstairs in the foyer at seven for school.”
I stood there shaking as he closed the door.
“What in the hell was that?”
Nova was pacing in my subconscious making low growling sounds until she finally spoke.
“Get to bed dear, I will remain on alert and wake you if they return.”
Flicking the lamp off I laid back down in my bed and stared up at the dark ceiling.
“So much for a fresh start with those two buttheads,” I muttered as I exhaled deeply.
“They are both attractive and Alpha’s in the making,” my wolf responded.
Rolling my eyes I sighed, “I'm just an omega and not worth their time.”
Yawning I returned to sleep fitfully through the night.
Early in the morning Lilly entered my room and woke me up.
I was dead tired and just wanted to roll over and continue to sleep.
“Miss, you need to get up now or you won't make it to school on time and will anger the Alpha!”
“What time is it,” I asked her with a yawn.
“It's six o'clock and if you want breakfast you better move your tush,” she scolded.
Tossing the blankets off me I muttered that I was up and patted my feet to my closet for an outfit.
After dressing in jeans and a simple light sweater I exited the closet to see Lilly had left.
Feeling disheartened after what had occurred last night with the guys I hissed and took out my braid leaving my long hair in soft waves. Tucking my cell phone into my back pocket I slipped on my pair of shoes and made my way down the stairs to go to the kitchen.
“Good morning sweety, didn't you sleep well? You have dark circles,” my mom fussed as she examined my eyes.
“It's fine, just being in a new place is all,” I mumbled softly and she grinned.
“Eat some breakfast Lexi and I'm sure it will perk you up!”
Nodding I took a seat as she placed an omelet with hollandaise sauce before me.
Thanking her as I dug in, I swallowed uncomfortably.
“Did you tell Johnathan and his sons that I was Alexandria instead of Lexi?”
Her brow creased as she looked at me oddly.
“Of course, it's your birth name,” she proclaimed and I understood the confusion.
“Was that the wrong thing for me to do, sweetheart? I can correct it and be sure to let everyone know that you prefer Lexi,” she said softly.
“Thanks, Mom, please do as I haven't been called Alexandria since Dad died,” I explained sullenly and she patted my hand.
“I didn't realize that it hurt you. I will rectify it today,” she commented and I gave her a nod.
As I continued eating I watched several emotions cross my mother's eyes and grew curious about something.
“Is Johnathan your mate,” I inquired.
My mother’s eyes lowered and her cheeks reddened.
“I believe that he is. The pull we felt was very strong and my wolf told me that he was,” she said softly.
Smiling, I laughed.
“It's nice to know that our wolves have better sense than we do when it comes to the opposite sex,” I expressed.
“When you turn eighteen you will know for certain who your mate is and Nova will be certain as well,” she clarified then added, “Finish up, it's almost seven!”
I followed her eyes to the clock on the wall and felt my gut drop.
“Your school records are already here so you will be placed in the same classes,” she added.
Nodding, I wiped my mouth and thanked her for breakfast as I made my way to the foyer.
Both Nathan and Nolan were standing there with their arms crossed looking intimidating.
“We just about left without you,” Nathan snapped.
Biting my tongue I gave him a condescending look and gestured toward the front door.
“We should leave then instead of standing here bitching about it,” I asserted and started for the door.
Realizing I didn't know what they drove I stopped on the front steps and waited as the pair passed me.
“When we arrive I will escort you to the main office,” Nolan informed me.
“Thanks,” I said softly and got into the back seat of one of the black SUVS I had seen when arriving.
Nathan tossed a notebook at me and Nolan handed me an ink pen.
Glaring at Nathan I thanked Nolan as his brother sped down the gravel road.
The pack house school was up behind the two large pack houses. It was a separate immense building like an actual school and it was full of students mingling about.
“This pack must be huge,” I muttered in surprise and heard them chuckling from the front seat.
Pulling into the parking lot all the student's eyes were focused on the vehicle.
“Don't mind the gawking Lexi, it is a daily occurrence since we are the Alpha’s sons and he owns the school,” Nathan bragged.
Rolling my eyes at the added attention I grabbed my notebook and pen as I exited the vehicle.
I could hear those close to us start questioning who I was. Waiting for Nolan I avoided eye contact with the gathering crowd of students.
“Come with me sis,” Nolan said with a smirk and Wrapped his arm around my shoulder as he headed to the entrance.
His announcement started another round of chatter amongst the students and I covered my face in embarrassment with the notebook.
As we entered the building I shrugged his arm off me and glared at him.
He raised his hands in surrender and then pointed to the office down the hall.
“Go in there and tell the office lady who you are and she will get you your schedule and a classmate to help you navigate. Go to the SUV after classes if you want a ride home,” he stated firmly and walked off.
I watched him turn a corner and leave my view.
“Nolan is the nicer one of the pair,” Nova commented in my mind as I went into the office.
Standing at the counter an older woman with glasses glanced over at me and smiled.
“You must be Lexi Mitchell, the Alpha called to let us know that you would be starting today,” she said chipperly. I nodded as she handed me a classroom schedule.
“Heather, I need you to escort our new student Lexi around. She had the same classes as you do and was on the honor roll at her last school,” she announced to a small girl whose eyes lit up when she looked my way.
Bounding toward me with her black hair in a ponytail bouncing she adjusted her glasses and told me to come with her.
We left the office and she started to walk backward in front of me and pulled out a cell phone.
“Want to be friends? If yes you get to call me Mini, all my friends call me that,” she asserted as she handed me her phone.
Giving her a questioning look she laughed.
“Call yourself so you have my number!”
Doing as she requested I was grinning when we entered class and I tripped over someone's foot who was sitting at a desk.
Looking up at the bluest eyes I'd ever seen I heard Mini apologize for my clumsiness.
“She is new, Sloan so be nice,” she proclaimed and my eyes widened at the handsome guy.
“You are the Beta’s son,” I blurted and his lip curled as he nodded.
“Let's sit here since you know both of us now,” Mini suggested as she offered the desk next to Sloan.
Lexi's pov
I spent the school morning with Mini and found her companionship refreshing. I also noticed that Sloan and I were in all of the same classes as well and the three of us were on our way to lunch when the shit hit the fan.
Sitting at the table with my new friends Nathan came into the lunch room and spied me laughing with the Beta's son.
Hearing growls coming from across the room I glanced up to see Nathan storming toward us with his fists clenched.
When he grabbed Sloan by his shirt and jerked him to his feet I scrambled up and wedged myself between the pair.
“What is wrong with you,” I snapped and glared at him seething with anger.
He was panting heavily and stepped back releasing his hold on Sloan.
“You will know exactly what is wrong once your birthday comes, little step-sister,” he snarled in response and I looked at him like he had gone rabid.
“Well it's not for two months so back off me and my friends,” I warned and the entire room grew quiet.
Glaring at me with his shifted wolf eyes I could hear Nova chortling in my head.
Telling her to knock it off I watched Nathan retreat from the lunch room and purposely knock down a stack of plastic trays as he stormed through the doors. The noisy chatter started back up and I turned to Sloan to see if he was alright.
I wasn't expecting to see him laughing wholeheartedly over the incident.
Raising my brow I asked him what he found so funny about being manhandled.
Shaking his head he said, “I've never seen him jealous and found it humorous.”
Glancing back at the doors Nathan had exited from I shook my head.
“I don't think he's jealous of me. He is just a stupid butthead,” I stressed and sat back down with them snickering.
Glancing between them I started giggling as well. Their laughter was contagious.
“What classes do I have next, Mini?”
“Physics and then physical education,” she said with a blah.
I pouted over PE and had no desire to do it.
“We could skip and go run in the forest,” she suggested and Sloan hissed.
“Coach will probably plan on everyone shifting and running a mile on the trails and you both will get caught,” he asserted and wiggled his black brows.
I smiled and his blue eyes followed my lips.
My cheeks reddened and I looked down at my hands as I started to feel hot suddenly.
“Lexi, are you the step-sister of the two Alpha’s sons,” a girl who had come to our table asked. I looked up at her and nodded.
“Oh you're so lucky, those two are so hot,” she squealed and I frowned.
“If you're into that tall tan athletic aggressive type, I suppose,” I mumbled and she nodded enthusiastically.
“We should hang out sometime, maybe at the Alpha’s,” she prodded and I glanced at my friends for help.
Thankfully Mini cleared her throat and said, “Lexi is going to hang with Sloan and me so move along, Courtney.”
The girl looked dejected when Sloan told her yep. Getting the hint she huffed and strutted away.
Rubbing my eyes I asked them both if the brothers were hooking up with randoms at the school and Mini laughed.
“They haven't shown interest in anyone since they returned from their mother’s across state. Rumor has it that they were both refused by who they thought was their mate after getting stood up by her,” Sloan said firmly and I looked at him and choked.
There was no way in hell it was me that they thought was their mate and certainly not both of them, right?!
I would have to convince them that they were both extremely wrong if that were the case.
Grabbing Mimi I smiled at her coyly.
“You think that we could skip the remainder of the day,” I asked curiously.
She contemplated for a moment and gestured toward Sloan.
“Want to go to the lake with us,” she asked him with an encouraging smirk.
Grinning slightly he hummed and tapped on the table.
“Alright but if we get caught we're blaming it on the Alpha's stepdaughter,” he chuckled and I balked at the pair.
Narrowing my eyes at him I noticed that he was just teasing me and I giggled at him and watched as he ran his fingers through his ebony hair. I almost moaned in appreciation, stopping myself before I got embarrassed. He was cute and his eyes were staring back at me gawking at him openly when he winked.
My view darted away quickly and I focused on Mini.
“Am I blushing, Nova,” I questioned my wolf with a thought.
She growled a low no and I relaxed as Mini announced excitedly that we should hurry and go before the lunch period was over.
The three of us sneaked out of a side door exit that butted up against the forest.
“Should we race,” Mini questioned and I shook my head.
“I'm unfamiliar with this forest or lake for that matter,” I muttered, causing them both to laugh.
Placing his hand on my shoulder Sloan suggested that I allow my wolf to lead the way.
“She will be able to scent the water, silly,” he grinned.
Nova was telling me that he was correct as I watched both Mini and Sloan dash off through the dense woods.
“The last one there has to kiss the winner!”
I gasped and started my way through the branches.
Jogging while following Nova's direction I ran for several miles and finally heard my friend's laughter coming from up ahead.
Breaking through the treeline my eyes widened at the lake I knew for certain wasn't drawn on any map.
“You are the loser and owe Sloan a kiss,” Mini shouted out playfully.
Seeing a pile of their clothes my brow rose seeing them both frolicking in the clear blue water.
Breaking the surface, Sloan flipped his wet hair back and my eyes traveled down his bare torso.
“Wow,” I muttered seeing that he also had firm abs and tawny skin.
Swallowing nervously my eyes went to Mini splashing around and waving for me to come in.
“Just stay in your bra and panties if your chicken,” she laughed.
Shaking my head I unbuttoned my jeans and slid them down my legs.
I wasn't wearing a bra but a bralette and pulled off my light sweatshirt to expose the matching lavender lace set.
Feeling Sloan’s eyes on me I quickly dove in and immediately went to the surface and cursed.
“The water is freezing! You both are insane,” I snapped.
Mini laughed as she swam over toward me and began to pull me to Sloan.
“You owe the winner a kiss,” she teased and I glanced at her and over at the glistening Beta’s son as my lips quivered from being chilled.
Once his hands were holding my hips I felt warmth from them. Looking up I see Sloan smiling and following his mouth until it connects briefly with mine.
Mini was cheering and I grinned over the chaste kiss before I splashed him and giggled as I tried to escape.
All of us played far after the end of the last school period and Sloan plopped down beside me on a rock where I was drying.
“You should probably get dressed and head back to the Alpha's or the Alpha will send out a search pack and they have great noses,” he said firmly while tapping his straight nose.
“Shit, I gotta go!”
Laughing he laid back on the rock and gazed up at me.
“I had fun Lexi, we should do this again without Heather.”
Eyeing him incredulously at his directness. I curled my lip and told him, “Maybe.”
After quickly dressing I waved farewell to my two new friends and followed Nova’s directions to the Alpha's house hoping that I didn't get my butt chewed.
Pulling my cell phone from my pocket, I called my mom.
“Alexandria Mitchell! Where are you, everyone is looking for you,” she said angrily with a touch of worry.
“Sorry Mom, I met a friend and I hung with her after class to work on an assignment,” I responded, and could hear her relaying what I had said.
“Well hurry home you already missed dinner,” she scolded.
Ending the call my stomach rumbled from hunger and I frowned as I shuffled my feet up the long driveway. Hearing a vehicle racing toward me I turned to see Nathan and Nolan.
Both of them looked pissed and I groaned inwardly as I looked skyward.
