Chapter 1

My boss, who made me work overtime every single day, finally got what was coming to him.

Somehow, he got connected to my new keyboard. It was like he was synced to it.

His face flushed red, his eyes brimming with tears.

"Don't type anymore," he begged.

I just smiled and nudged the mouse.

"Don't move the mouse either!"

'Do you expect me to just stop because you said so? Wouldn't that make me look pathetic?' I thought to myself.

I kept working until midnight. Just as I was about to leave, I glanced down.

The carpet at my boss's feet was soaked through.

I figured he must have knocked over his glass of water.

Our company had just brought in a new boss.

He kept us working late every single day.

As his secretary, I could not leave until he did, so I always stayed back later than the rest of the office.

I bought a brand new keyboard and mouse set to cheer myself up. They were both limited editions!

I gently ran my fingers over them before starting to type like crazy. I was going to pound all my frustration into those keys!

I wanted to beat the keys into submission!

Out of nowhere, a message popped up on my screen from my boss, Shane Lawson.

Shane: [Bring me a pack of tissues.]

I clenched my teeth.

'Can't he grab his own tissues?

'Is he actually incapacitated, or is he just too lazy to move?' I wondered.

Biting back my annoyance, I grabbed some tissues and headed into his office.

Shane was half-asleep at his desk, looking all hot and bothered.

Was he sick?

Was he feeling bad?

I set the tissues down on his desk.

"Mr. Lawson, you really should look after yourself."

I was about to walk away when I stepped on something sticky. As I lifted my foot, it stretched out like slime.

What in the world?

This was...

My eyes went wide as I turned to Shane.

He was not just a little sick—he was a real mess.

Honestly, how did I always end up in situations like this?

That was just like Shane. He would rather suffer in the office than take a break and go home. I had to admire that.

"Get out of my office! And bring me those documents later! If there's even a single mistake in the files, you're in big trouble!"

I had not even started sorting through those files yet.

What was with the hurry?

Shane was always rushing me.

I typed furiously.

He wanted to rush me?

I would see how he liked being rushed!

I slammed the keyboard, each finger throwing a little punch!

All of a sudden, there was a loud thud from Shane's office.

'Huh? Did he finally push himself too far?' I wondered.

I opened the door to check on him. It was still my responsibility as his secretary to make sure he was doing all right.

Shane was holding onto the desk, looking really upset.

I was shocked.

Was he always this dramatic?

He was a skinny and quiet guy, and he was usually pretty nice.

He glanced up at me.

His eyes were unfocused.

After a bit, he seemed to snap out of his trance and said with a fierce expression, "If you tell anyone about what happened today, you're in big trouble!"

I knew better than to talk.

I did not want any trouble.

Shane said quickly, "Go get me a new suit."

The suit he was wearing now was all wrinkled. I shook my head.

He had made such a mess of his office. My boss sure was something else.

He never knew when to stop.

Shane did not stay late at work that day. He left early for once.

I was cleaning up my desk, wondering what to have for dinner, when Shane tapped me on the shoulder.

"Finish up this report, then drive me to a party," he said.

'Why does everyone else get to go home while I'm stuck here working late? It's not fair!' I thought, feeling upset.

I could not hide my frustration, but Shane did not seem to notice.

Was he not worried I would tell everyone his secret?

He was acting all high and mighty, but I had blackmail on him.

I continued typing hard on my new keyboard, feeling fed up.

I was so tired of working late all the time!

He deserved to suffer in the office too, for all the suffering he had put me through!

Suddenly, I heard another weird noise.

Chapter 2

No way...

I froze in surprise.

How many times had it already been today?

Was he really that desperate?

Good thing everyone had gone home.

If they heard that noise, who knew what they would think?

I went over to see what was happening.

Shane was inside, looking upset again.

He was crying.

God…

I had to admit, he looked completely different when he cried… almost captivating.

I could not believe what I was seeing.

"Come here... Help me get up," he said.

His voice quivered just a little.

He stretched his hand out to me.

I could not really say no.

I nodded and lifted him into my arms.

The new clothes I had bought for him were about to be ruined too.

He always acted like he was untouchable.

Why did he suddenly...

While I was trying to figure it out, Shane struggled to speak.

"Forget the party… take me to the hospital first."

I nodded again and carried him out.

I had not turned off my laptop yet.

"Mr. Lawson, I'll just finish up with a few more files before we go."

Shane was such a workaholic. Whenever work was mentioned, he was all ears, nodding along.

I moved the mouse to save a document.

However, as I did, I felt Shane stiffen in my arms.

I clicked on another window.

Shane grunted as if on cue.

What was happening?

I...

I quickly copied some text and pressed a few keys.

I could feel Shane tensing up.

What?

Oh my God!

I could not believe such a magical thing was happening to me.

It was as if my boss had connected to my keyboard and was synced to it.

Shane watched me work.

He suddenly realized why he had fallen sick today. He began to choke me.

"Jamie Rogers! What did you do to me?!"

This was a new keyboard!

How was I supposed to know what was going on?

I never thought something like this was even possible.

Shane's grip made it hard for me to breathe, and my arm crashed down on the keyboard.

Shane instantly collapsed, curling up in my arms.

My clothes were ruined too now.

My aggressive typing had led to Shane becoming…

I could not bring myself to say it, so I just held him quietly.

"Jamie, you're in trouble."

I retorted through clenched teeth, "It's all because you made me work on so many files. That's why I was typing all day."

Shane did not care. "Help me up… Then, finish those files."

I could not believe my ears. This legendary workaholic could not be for real!

"We need this document by tomorrow. It's pretty urgent."

Shane clenched his jaw.

I only started typing after he gave me a nod.

Oh God.

His voice was so distracting.

How was I supposed to get any work done like this?

My hand shook, and I kept hitting the wrong keys.

Shane looked at me with his dreamy eyes. I was actually...
