I Married My Fiance’s Comatose Uncle Chapter 1

In a private hospital room, Caroline Webb lay on the bed, her body frail and weak. A man and a woman entered, laughing, and shoved a metal tray into her hands.

“Sister, you’re awake? Here, feel the corneas you supposedly donated to Dennis—they were just removed. Haha, Caroline, you've really met your match today!”

In fury, Caroline hurled the tray away, blood-stained tears trickling from her eyes, hidden beneath thick bandages.

“You’ve been plotting against me all along, haven’t you?”

Dennis Webb sneered, “Finally figured it out at the end, did you?”

Her sister, Josie Garza, took Caroline’s hand and placed it on her own rounded belly.

“Sis, inside here is Dennis’s child! You've been married to him for three years, and he never touched you because he was always with other women. But I was the first to have his child, and I’ve won.”

Dennis cruelly patted Josie’s belly and said with malice, “Well, you managed to get pregnant with my child, didn't you? You’re at least more charming than your boring sister.”

With a wicked grin, Josie suddenly pulled out Caroline’s IV tube, her anger directed at Caroline: “You thought you were repaying Dennis for saving your life by donating your corneas, but that was all a lie. He was never sick, and he wasn’t the one who saved you!”

As the devastating truth hit her, Caroline started to struggle for breath, her head pounding with agony. Like someone drowning, desperate for air, she clung to Josie’s foot. “You’ve been lying to me all this time? You won’t get away with this—”

“The one who should be dead is you. Why should you have everything and take it all away from me?” Josie kicked her away.

Dennis poured gasoline around the room, laughing maniacally, nothing like his usual composed self. “I owe you some thanks. You fought against my uncle Simon for three years, yet even such a ruthless man couldn’t defeat you.”

“Once you’re gone, we’ll enjoy your inheritance!”

Caroline sat helpless, trapped in a pool of gasoline. The drugs prevented her from moving, from trying to take them down with her.

As the fire ignited at the door and quickly consumed the room, only her chilling vow remained: “You just wait! I’ll come back and make you pay. I won’t let you get away—”

In New York City, at the wedding of the elite Webb and Garza families, Caroline awoke from the nightmare, trembling and drenched in sweat.

The sensation of burning felt so real. Could it be that she had been given a second chance?

Everything mirrored the wedding from three years prior—flowers, gowns, even Dennis Webb’s photographs—everything was sickening to her.

Once she calmed down, a singular thought consumed her: revenge. Dennis, Josie, and everyone who wronged her wouldn’t get away this time.

Reporters clamored outside as Dennis pretended to be affectionate, playing up for the cameras. Caroline, her mind racing with thoughts of vengeance, grabbed a microphone when a journalist asked about the wedding plans. “I believe there’s been some misunderstanding. I am indeed marrying into the Webb family, but not to Dennis.”

All eyes were on Caroline, and Dennis was stunned. “Caroline? What are you—”

Caroline, revulsion coursing through her, gripped Dennis’s arm, her nails digging into his flesh. “Has everyone misunderstood? Dennis Webb?”

“Our family is at least reputable in New York City. My parents wouldn’t let me marry a wastrel, a loser like Dennis. What could I possibly want from him? His laziness or perhaps his ineffectiveness?”

Dennis erupted in anger, lunging at Caroline. “Caroline Webb! Have you lost your mind?”

Caroline deftly avoided him, then pretended he hit her, collapsing to the ground, drawing gasps from the onlookers.

Holding her face with a tearful look, she said, “As you can all see, Dennis has a severe... anger problem. If I dare to refuse him, he hits me! I don’t want to marry him. He’s forcing me!”

“Caroline Webb! You're lying, you crazy woman, you—”

Dennis’s anger made his veins bulge as he clenched his fists, but he was immediately surrounded by reporters and family members, creating chaos.

“Mr. Webb, are you abusive? Could you explain what you mean by anger issues? Does the Webb family know about this?”

Caroline rose with the help of a female reporter, unconsciously licking her lips as a steely resolve flashed in her eyes. Dennis had always had an explosive temper. In her past life, he hid it well until he revealed it while setting her on fire. A little provocation showed how easily he could be manipulated three years ago.

“There’s no anger problem! You reporters shouldn’t spread lies. My son is perfectly fine! That woman is lying!”

Under his mother's protective arm, Dennis calmed down slightly and pointed at Caroline. “You deceitful woman! I once saved you, and you chased after me to repay that favor by marrying me. What are you doing now?”

“With your background, who else in the Webb family would even consider you?”

At the mention of repayment, Caroline let out a cold laugh, then feigned innocence. “Mr. Webb, don’t flatter yourself.”

“Not to mention the absurd idea of repaying a debt, I intend to marry your uncle Simon Webb.”

A collective gasp came from the crowd. Simon Webb, recently in a car accident, was rumored to be in a vegetative state and unlikely to survive the year.
