I loved Levi for eight years. My love for him peaked the day we got our marriage license.
Then it slowly fell to the bottom after Ellie appeared.
Levi's love probably began to fade from the day he regained his memory.
If it weren't for that accident eight years ago, Levi and I would never meet.
He was a noble young master from a wealthy family. I was just a fisherwoman from a remote village.
That day, Grandma got up early to collect seafood and found Levi lying on the shore in a terrible state.
The situation was urgent. Grandma used her crude first aid skills to save Levi.
But when he woke up, he had lost his memory. He didn't remember his name or where he was from.
Levi was wearing a suit and leather shoes. Even though I had never seen such clothes before, it was obvious they were expensive and out of place in the village.
Grandma wanted to take him to the police station. Levi, in his amnesiac state, clung to Grandma who saved him.
Thinking of my parents, who were lost at sea, Grandma softened and took him home.
Then we lived together.
The first time I saw Levi, I knew the saying from the books was true.
"Beauty is a trap."
As we spent day after day together, the initial amazement turned into a burning love.
At that time, our lives were very poor. The village was remote. We often had power and water outages.
In severe times, even eating was a problem.
Although life was hard, we were really happy.
We would wait for the sunrise together every day, rush to collect seafood after the tide receded, and count the stars on the beach during power outages.
We were once each other's only love.
We thought we should be on the same household register.
So, under that starry night, we got together in that remote village.
There was no grand wedding, no complicated ceremony. It had two passionate and pure hearts.
Sometimes, I selfishly thought that if we hadn't gone out that day, maybe we wouldn't have ended up like this.
But life has no ifs.
On our way back from registering our marriage license, we had a major car accident.
Levi suffered a severe head injury to protect me.
I stayed by his side in the hospital for a whole month until he finally woke up.
I cried tears of joy, but he instinctively shook off my hand.
After a brief pause, he pulled me back into his arms. At that moment, something seemed to have changed and yet remained the same.
His chin rested on my neck. He said excitedly, "Abigail, I remember now."
It turned out he was the eldest son of the Smith Group in Jolite. He was ambushed by enemies while out at sea and had to jump into the sea as a last resort.
Later, he took me back to Jolite.
Here, the Smith family was powerful. He was the flamboyant Levi, no longer the simple and naive Levi from the village.
And Abigail from the village didn't fit in here. Everyone secretly mocked and ridiculed me. The Smith family didn't allow any mention of my existence.
After I was framed time and again, Levi finally couldn't help but coldly say to me, "Abigail, you shouldn't go out if you don't have to. You really embarrass me."
He started staying out all night socializing, stopped answering calls and texts. I saw him less and less.
The once burning hearts slowly turned cold.
Six months ago, Ellie started appearing by his side frequently.
On the rare occasions we met, Levi always talked about Ellie.
From the day Levi regained his memory, I knew this marriage was borrowed and would have to be returned.
I just didn't expect it to be so soon.
This relationship began with Levi and ended with Levi.
After leaving, I took Grandma's ashes and stayed at a small hotel.
Before returning to the village, I had something more important to do.
Three days ago, Grandma had a heart attack at the wedding. On the way to the hospital, I fainted in the ambulance due to the shock from Levi and Grandma.
When I woke up in the hospital, the doctor told me that Grandma died despite rescue efforts. And, I was pregnant.
I really didn't expect to be pregnant with Levi's child at this time.
The child I had been hoping for six years chose to come to me now.
My resolve to leave wavered because of this child.
I wanted to give Levi another chance. So, I called him when Grandma was cremated.
But... this child was not meant to be with me.
Levi was not fit to be the child's father.
That day, Levi ended not only the wedding, but also our eight-year relationship and the baby's chance to be born.
Since I had decided to completely separate from Levi, we couldn't have any ties.
...
When I came out of the operating room, I couldn't help but tear up.
The three-month-old fetus was already forming. It was a girl, the girl Levi and I had longed for.
Just as I raised my hand to wipe away my tears, a strong force pushed me to the ground.
My lower abdomen, freshly operated on, throbbed with pain.
When I looked up, I met Levi's angry eyes.
Ellie stood behind him, protected by him.
Before I could react, Levi pointed at me and angrily asked, "Abigail, you are simply unreasonable. You even learned to stalk. Is this what Grandma taught you?"
Looking at his frosty face, my hand on my belly involuntarily tightened.
"Stalk?"
I let out a cold laugh. I couldn't hold back my tears anymore, and they streamed down.
"Levi, is this what you think of me?"
"Isn't it?"
Levi impatiently frowned, not giving me a chance to explain. He continued to scold, "Abigail, I'll say it one last time. Grandma's health is bad. If you keep this up, she might get angry and die one day!"
That day would never come. Grandma had already been angered to death by you three days ago.
I held my belly and struggled to get up from the ground. The chilling cold from the floor seeped into my body, making me shiver.
"Levi, shut up. Do you have any conscience left? Do you know that Grandma already..." I almost shouted. The pain in my belly made my vision go black.
"Enough!"
Levi impatiently interrupted me. His tone was full of disgust. "Abigail, don't think I don't know what you're thinking. You just want to use Grandma's kindness to gain my sympathy. I'm telling you, it won't work!
"The thing I regret the most now is that you took advantage of my amnesia to trick me into marriage!
"Who do you think you are? You're just a humble fisher girl. If it weren't for Grandma saving me, would you have married me?"
Each word he said hurt me.
My lower abdomen throbbed with pain. Cold sweat mixed with hot tears slid down my forehead. I leaned weakly against the wall. My face was pale.
"Still pretending?" Levi let out a cold laugh. "You followed us to the hospital out of jealousy and suspicion, didn't you?"
I looked at the bag of medicine in his hand. My eyes were full of sarcasm.
When was the last time Levi cared about me? It had been so long that I couldn't even remember.
Perhaps my indifferent attitude greatly provoked him. Levi's expression looked even worse.
Seeing the timing was right, Ellie slowly stepped forward, gently pulling on Levi's sleeve. Her weak voice carried a hint of sobbing. "Levi, don't be angry. Abigail might just be momentarily confused..."
"Ellie, don't speak for her!" Levi's eyes filled with more anger. "She just can't stand to see you well!"
I looked at the scene before me and felt incredibly sarcastic.
Eight years of relationship couldn't compare to his short few months with Ellie?
Men truly were fickle.
I took a deep breath, letting the tears flow freely. My voice was hoarse.
"Levi, I came here to abort your child! You don't deserve for me to have your child."
Levi was stunned, and so was Ellie.
"Child? What child?" Levi frowned, seemingly unable to believe my words.
His eyes were full of shock as he looked at me.
I let out a bitter laugh. I pointed at my belly and said coldly, "Here. It once carried your child that was over three months old!"
After being married for so many years, I knew he longed to have a child.
So knowing he once had and then lost it, he must be very hurt.
I didn't feel guilty at all towards him now.
This heart-wrenching pain of losing a loved one was the most devastating gift I could give him.
Levi's face turned pale instantly, and he instinctively took a step back.
Seeing this, Ellie quickly reached out to support him.
Levi ignored her, staring at me with shock and disbelief in his eyes.
"You... are you serious?" His voice trembled, as if he had been hit hard.
I laughed sadly. "Do you think I'm joking?"
"No, it's not..." Levi shook his head in panic. His eyes were flickering as if trying to avoid something.
A trace of delight flashed in Ellie's eyes, but she quickly hid it.
She gently patted Levi's shoulder and comforted him softly. "Levi, don't worry. Abigail is just impulsive and said this to upset you. Don't take it to heart."
Watching her pretend to be so innocent made me feel extremely disgusted.
"Ellie, how long are you going to keep pretending?" I looked at her coldly. "Do you think I don't know your schemes?"
Ellie stiffened, but she quickly returned to her weak and innocent look.
"Abigail, what are you talking about? I don't understand."
"Don't understand?" I sneered. "Then I'll say it again. You, Ellie, are a complete manipulative bitch! A liar!"
"You..." Ellie's face turned ugly. Her eyes were slightly red as if she was about to cry.
Seeing this, Levi instinctively shielded Ellie behind him and glared at me.
"Abigail, that's enough! Don't think I don't know what you're thinking. You just can't stand Ellie being happy and want to drive a wedge between us, right?"
Watching this scene, I felt an intense sense of irony.
"Levi, you're completely bewitched by her!" I pointed at Ellie. My tone was icy. "Do you think she's good? She's just a..."
"Abigail!" Ellie suddenly interrupted me. Her eyes were red, her voice choked.
"I know you're still mad at me, but I really never intended to take Levi from you. I just can't control my love for him..."
As she said this, she suddenly covered her mouth, crying pitifully.
Seeing this, Levi felt distressed and quickly pulled her into his arms, comforting her softly. "Ellie, don't say anymore. I know, I know..."
Watching them being affectionate, I felt my stomach churn, feeling nauseous.
"Ellie, you really put on a good show!"
Ellie looked up. She was gazing at me, her voice trembling. "Abigail, I'm sorry. I know you're hurt. It's all my fault. I won't see Levi anymore."
"Enough!" I couldn't listen any longer. I was harshly interrupting her, looking at her mockingly.
"Ellie, do you know what you look like now?
"A garbage dump that collects trash."
Ellie bit her red lips. Her face was full of embarrassment.
I held back my sorrow and anger. I looked up at Levi and said coldly, "Levi, I'm telling you, sign the divorce papers quickly. Just thinking about being with you makes me sick."
I finished speaking and turned to leave.
Levi blocked my way and said stubbornly, "Abigail, how many times do I have to explain? Ellie and I are just in a simple relationship. I won't divorce you.
"If you insist on causing such a scene and selfishly aborting the child, I must have Grandma educate you today."
With that, he picked up his phone, intending to call Grandma.
