Chapter 3

“Mr. Wood, please don’t get angry. They’re just trying to make you lose control on purpose!”

Madison and Orion showed no anger at all. Orion even smiled and said, “Winners take all. Who cares about pride?”

“You stole my company! You’re shameless and disgusting!” I shouted in rage.

“So what if I’m shameless? Your wife loves me. All I had to do was crook my finger and she came crawling like a dog to play with me! Then she helped me drain your company dry!”

This Orion used to be broke and nearly had his legs broken by loan sharks. Madison once said he was her cousin from the village and begged me to give him a job.

Out of kindness, I hired him with a high salary of $20,000 a month!

I pulled him out of the mud and this was how he repaid me, betraying me with my own wife and helping her steal everything I built.

Suppressing my burning anger, I stared Madison straight in the eyes and said, “You will regret this.”

She sneered and replied, “Live for today, drink while there’s wine. I don’t care about regret! But you’ll probably be sleeping on the streets in a few days.”

Hearing this, Leila leaned in and quietly said, “Mr. Wood, the company’s cash flow is gone. This product launch is our last chance.”

If customers liked the new product, they would place orders with down payments and that money could save us.

I took a deep breath. “Let’s begin.”

The deputy tech manager started the presentation.

From design to concept and quality, the new product was a full year ahead of the market.

The clients’ eyes lit up. Excited voices quickly filled the room.

“Give me ten million worth. Send it as soon as you can.”

“Mr. Wood, I want five million!”

“I’ll pay eight million cash, just ship fast!”

“Give me three million worth…”

Seeing the customers so eager to place orders, hope filled my heart. Maybe the company could still be saved.

“Did you celebrate too soon?”

Orion looked around, then pulled a product from his briefcase.

“This product was just finished. Its functions and design are pretty much the same as Mr. Wood’s.”

“But the wholesale price is 30% lower.”

The room went silent.

I shouted in anger, “You... you copied my product?!”

Madison sneered, “Mr. Wood, don’t put it like that. But it’s true, our price is lower.”

She turned to the customers and said, “If you work with us, we’ll even give you another 10% off.”

The customers exchanged glances, many swallowing hard.

“Mr. Wood, I run a small business. If the quality’s the same, I have to go with the cheaper option.”

“Sorry, Mr. Wood. I don’t have enough money. If you can’t lower the price, I’ll have to buy from Mr. Alcott.”

In an instant, most of the customers turned their backs on me. Only three or four long-time clients, out of loyalty, placed small orders worth a few hundred thousand each.

Furious, I shouted, “Madison, you’re trying to destroy me completely!”

Madison shrugged. “Chasing profit is the rule in business. If they want to buy from me, what can I do?”

“Besides, your failing company is already close to bankruptcy. Do you even have the money to produce anything?”

In a burst of anger, I rushed forward to hit her.

But three security guards blocked me. The head of security slapped me hard across the face.

I stood there, stunned, glaring at him. “One day, I’ll make sure none of you have a place to die!”

The guards laughed. “Your wife ran off with another man and your company’s collapsing. Do you really think you have a future?”

Everyone around looked at me with mocking eyes.

Chapter 4

“This guy used to be a big shot. You had to book a meeting with him half a month in advance. What a joke, now everyone knows his wife cheated on him.”

“Yeah, and he lost everything too. What a loser.”

Leila quickly pulled me back, afraid I might get hit again.

After eight years of love, I had treated Madison with nothing but care and loyalty. And yet, she wanted me dead.

“Madison, do you really have to be this heartless? Did everything we had mean nothing to you?” My eyes burned red as I stared at her.

Madison smiled seductively, then threw a divorce agreement in my face. “There’s something even colder. Here, sign this.”

“Since you’re broke now, I won’t take anything. You leave with nothing.”

My hands trembled as I grabbed the agreement and read it quickly.

People around me snickered, making jokes about how my wife cheated on me.

But none of them noticed the small smirk forming at the corners of my lips as I looked down.

This divorce agreement was exactly what I wanted. It meant cutting all ties with this cheating woman.

“Madison, are you sure you want to divorce me?”

I was secretly pleased but wanted to test her one last time.

Madison replied coldly, “Still pretending? Someone beat him if he won’t sign!”

“Keep hitting him until he does!” Orion sneered.

The three security guards rushed over. One of them threw a punch.

Blood spilled from my nose on impact.

“Amari, you used to act all high and mighty, wearing designer suits, stealing my ex. I looked like some country fool, bet you never thought I’d crush you and rise above.”

“Let me tell you, Madison’s a total slut. When she’s under me, she moans like crazy! She even said you’re nothing next to me.”

Orion laughed like a madman.

As they kept punching and kicking me, Madison said coldly, “If beating you doesn’t make you sign, maybe another car accident will.”

Was that a threat?

That was also her indirect confession. She had arranged the crash.

I had loved her with all my heart and she wanted nothing more than to destroy me like a venomous snake.

“I’ll sign.”

From that moment, I hardened my heart and let go of any hope for her.

I stood up, grabbed the pen without hesitation and signed my name.

Seeing this, Madison and Orion burst into smug laughter.

This was exactly what they had been waiting for.

I gave them a chance, but they didn’t value it.

Now, it was my turn to strike back hard.

“Mr. Wood, your company’s debts are greater than its assets. It’s bankrupt. Go make it official,” Madison sneered.

Orion looked at me with amusement. “Your wife is mine now. Your company’s drained and gone. What’s the point of a man like you even being alive?”

Madison knew what I was capable of. Whether it was research or marketing, my skills were top in the industry, with results so precise they seemed almost magical.

That’s why they were scared, afraid I’d rise again and take back the market.

Only if my company completely collapsed could they finally relax.

I nodded. “Then let it go bankrupt.”

“What a waste. Mr. Wood’s a real talent. Now, he’ll be sleeping under a bridge.”

“He’s broke. No chance of a comeback.”

Clients and employees looked at me with pity.

But the strong never need pity.

I pulled out a new business license. “This is my new company. Our new product will be released soon.”

“A shell company?” Madison sneered. “No clients, no products, what’s the point?”

“Who said I don’t have clients?”

I smiled.

Just then, an old lady in a formal dress entered the room, followed by an entourage. She walked in like a queen among stars.

“Holy crap, isn’t that Madam Rachel from the Wood Group?”

“Oh my god, that’s a trillion-dollar conglomerate! What’s she doing here?”

Everyone stared as I stepped forward and gently supported the old lady.

“Boy, you’ve finally come to your senses?”

The old lady gave me a light hug.

The crowd looked stunned.

“Mr. Wood, I didn’t expect this. You really became a gigolo to make a comeback?”

“Amari, this is pathetic. Selling yourself to an old woman?”

Madison, Orion and the others looked at me with mocking, twisted smiles.

I sneered. “What are you all talking about? This is my mother, Rachel.”

“What?”

The room fell dead silent. Jaws dropped.
