Chapter 2

So no matter how much I tried to avoid it, Quincy just wanted to stick with me, disgust me, and target me.

However, because she went to the hospital and my grades were very good. The school, which had not received any news from the Shaw Family, still put me in the elite class.

The Shaw Family had been with Quincy in the hospital those days.

For several days, I had dinner at home alone.

I was glad that no one had disturbed me those days.

But the elite class of the Junior High was full of talented people, and everyone was competing with each other openly or secretly. I was worried about falling behind every day.

When Quincy came back surrounded by the Shaw Family, I was doing homework at home.

Students in the elite class had already taught themselves the knowledge of all three years and studied almost every day in order to get into a good university.

I didn't have time to care about them. Hank kicked open the door of my room and tore the paper in my hand into pieces.

"Quincy was in hospital because of you, and you didn't even visitor her once?"

Hank's questioning was still the same as in the previous life, so I was not too surprised.

But I felt sorry for the paper I was about to finish, which was the examination from the previous year.

"Didn't she want to see me? So why would I go? To cause trouble for you guys, or let you cause trouble for me?"

Hank was furious and wanted to say something, but George walked in.

"Okay, Quincy is fine, why are you making a fuss in Ruby's room?"

I saw the emotions in George's eyes, which seemed to be mixed with a hint of guilt.

Yeah, after all, before they went to the hospital, he slapped me.

I could still feel the pain just thinking about it.

That was my biological father. He was not as good as Hannah who raised me.

If Hannah hadn't passed away, I would never have returned to this home.

"Dad, but Quincy hasn't had an asthma attack in years. Since she showed up, Quincy is always sad. She shouldn't have come back!"

As I listened to my biological brother, it was like a blizzard had swept through my heart, and my whole heart was chilled by his words.

"You think I want to come back?"

I picked up the torn pieces of my paper on the ground one by one. I also wanted to cry.

When I was with Hannah, even though I didn't have good food or clothes, she treated me like a treasure.

But in this house, I had to try my best to avoid Quincy in order to have a moment of peace.

"Hank, get out!"

George pushed Hank out of my room. I didn't quite understand what he was doing.

"Ruby, don't say that anymore. You being in the elite class is settled. And your sister won't bother you anymore."

George walked out of my room after saying that. The door of my room was kicked and broken by Hank.

I looked at the broken door and an idea suddenly came to my mind.

I never wanted to live under the same roof with Quincy. Now that she was back, although Hannah is no longer around, I could still live in the school.

If I lived in the school, it would be more convenient for me to study. And I wouldn't have to travel back and forth everyday.

I mentioned this to Maria the next day.

If I wanted to live in the Junior High, I needed the consent of my parents. Then the school would arrange a dorm for me.

The Junior High had always supported boarding, so the school would not object as long as the parents agreed.

"Why do you want to live in the school? Can you get enough nutrition in school?"

In fact, I had recovered a lot in the Shaw Family, and I was no longer the pale and thin person I was at the beginning.

Since I had gained some weight, my facial features were becoming more and more like Maria.

Maria looked at my face, which was very similar to hers, she couldn't help but become much gentler.

"The food in the school is good, and we have many courses and homework in the elite class. My teacher also supports me boarding."

Maria looked at me with pity and reached out to touch my head.

"Ruby, are you living in the school because of me?"

I originally thought that the boarding thing would be settled smoothly, but I didn't expect Quincy to interfere.

"If you insist on thinking this way, fine."

I really didn't understand, wasn't it a good thing for her that I lived in school?

She sticked to me like poison all the time.

After I said this, I saw that she was about to cry again.

Maria came forward, took Quincy away and comforted her for a long time.

Quincy loved to play this kind of mother-daughter love drama in front of me.

But I really had no interest in watching it, so after telling the teacher, I took my things to school the next day.

My roommates were all from the elite class. Apart from taking turns cleaning the dorm every day, we rarely communicated with each other.

Which saved me a lot of time, and I could focus on preparing for the university entrance examination.

Chapter 3

I had a relatively peaceful semester. In the final exam of my first year of high school, I ranked third in my class and fifth in my grade.

This ranking was neither good nor bad for me. After all, I thought there was still room for improvement.

But when I thought about going home during the summer vacation and facing the Shaw Family every day, I felt very uncomfortable.

Whatever. I had been reborn, and I couldn't be afraid of Quincy's tricks again.

But when I returned home with my schoolbag, I didn't expect that there was another person at home.

It was George's mother, my grandmother Mary.

I had never seen her in my previous life, but I saw the gifts she gave to Quincy.

They were all precious gems and limited edition clothing, which were worth a lot of money.

I had no expectation for the Shaw Family, and there was nothing to envy when I saw the gifts that Mary brought to Quincy.

I went straight up the stairs, wanting to put my things away and continue studying.

"Ruby, stop right there, didn't you see grandma is here?"

Hank stretched out his hand to block in front of me. It was summer and the last class in the afternoon was physical education.

We girls had an 800-meter race. My school uniform was sticky to my body after running. And I just wanted to go upstairs and take a shower.

I didn't expect Hank would force me to stay and see how their family love each other with three generations living under one roof.

"Oh, who is it?"

I put the suitcase in my hand aside, and asked a question that made everyone look embarrassed.

"This kid is not even half as sensible as Quincy. You brought her back here really caused trouble for us."

When I heard this, I looked at the old woman and chuckled.

"I'm sorry, my last name is Lawson, you all know that. So don't tell me again if there is anything going on in your family in the future."

Hank slapped his mouth in annoyance. And Maria looked at my face, feeling even more heartbroken.

"Ruby, we are wrong about this. We will take you to change your last name tomorrow."

I thought what Maria said was very strange. If they really wanted me as a daughter, they would have taken me to change my surname long ago.

Now that Hank had said this, they felt embarrassed and said this. Did they really think I had to receive this favor from their family?

"No."

"Ruby, today is Hank's and my birthday, so grandma is here to celebrate our birthday. You must have never had cake before, so we saved a piece for you."

Quincy took out the cake, which had been in the refrigerator for a long time and had fallen over. Then she put it in front of me.

I looked up at everyone. "Am I really the daughter of the Shaw Family? Did you find the wrong person?"

I am Hank's twin sister, and Hank and I have the same birthday.

But what were they doing, accompanying an impersonator.

My whole family had completely forgotten about me.

Maria immediately understood what I meant.

"Ruby, I'm sorry, we didn't mean it, we just forgot that it's your birthday today."

She looked like she was about to cry. I couldn't help but sigh. No wonder she and Quincy felt more like mother and daughter.

"It's okay. I don't need you to remember."

Finally, no one stopped me when I went upstairs. I only heard Mary still blaming me.

After taking a shower and changing clothes, I heard someone outside the door calling me to go downstairs for dinner.

When I went downstairs, I saw that the whole family was already seated.

But there was nothing on the table that I liked.

I was raised by Hannah, who was a scavenger. And we had to eat vegetable leaves because we were so poor.

Because of this, I later became particularly fond of meat.

But now, there were only vegetarian dishes on the table, which made me feel sick.

Seeing that I refused to sit down, Maria pulled my hand and moved me to the seat next to her.

"Ruby, sit next to me."

Maria reached out and held my hand. This was the warmth I had prayed for a long time in my previous life.

I didn't expect I could still get it now.

"Mom, this is your favorite, try it."

Quincy picked up a piece of egg for Maria. This was probably the only dish that considered meat among all the dishes today.

Maria turned to look at Quincy and began to praise her, leaving me aside.

"Okay, our family can afford to support one more person. Consider this your birthday present."

I looked at Mary sitting in the main seat, who was reluctantly having a cell phone box taken out.

The phone was the latest model, but I was busy studying and didn't have time to use it at all.

Besides, this kind of thing was just something Mary had someone buy on the road casually to fool me.

I looked at the sparkling diamond necklace on Quincy's neck, as if I had been pricked in my heart.

"What, you don't like the gift I prepared for you?"

There was a hint of disgust in Mary's tone. What annoying people do was unnecessary for me.

But if she insisted on giving me, I wouldn't want to refuse it.

I reached out and opened the box, looking at the brand new cell phone inside. No matter what, this was the first gift given to me by the Shaw Family.

Only for me.

"Thank you, grandma."

I put the things away and responded politely, and then Mary's expression eased a lot.

"An ignorant country bumpkin, a cell phone makes her happy enough."

When Hank started to make fun of me, George slapped him on the back and said, "If you don't speak, no one will think you are mute."

Hank wanted to say something, but he noticed that Mary's face didn't look good either.

The whole family had a very uncomfortable meal, and I was the only one who felt a little happy.

When I returned to my room, I was about to do two more sets of exams, but to my surprise, my schoolbag and books were all gone.

I searched the room for a long time but couldn't find it.

I went downstairs and saw that Hank was holding my schoolbag.

In the middle of the night, he deliberately took my things.

I really didn't understand what Hank wanted to do.

"Don't think you can take away everything from Quincy just because you have better grades!"

I was very confused by his stupid behavior. I didn't expect that he actually had a lighter in his hand.

I had given in again and again. I just wanted to finish school, find a job and get away from the Shaw Family completely.

But everyone in the Shaw Family seemed to think that I was pushing my luck.

I saw Hank holding a lighter and about to burn my schoolbag, so I immediately reached out to grab it.

The elite class had a lot of courses, and all my homework were in it.

Those papers were collected by teachers of various subjects and printed specifically for us. It would be very troublesome if they were burned.

And, most importantly, a lot of notes I made were in it too. I needed them to review what I had learned and learn new things in the next two years.

No one's success comes in vain, everyone in the elite class studied very hard.

But I was still one step slower than Hank. The flame in Hank's hand leapt, and the flame spread within seconds.

He threw my schoolbag on the ground and laughed.

"You deserve it! As long as you don't leave that school, I won't let you go!"
