The next day, Timothea received all the information about the hotel’s cleaner.
“Harper, male, 32 years old…” The assistant read the information.
Timothea’s brows furrowed as she listened.
“Ms. Johnston, we’ve already investigated. Harper has no connection to Bond. They probably don’t know each other.”
Timothea’s face remained expressionless. She tapped her fingers on the table and said calmly, “I understand. You can leave first.”
From then on, Timothea’s attention began to focus more and more on Harper.
One day, while leaving to get off work, Harper was blocked in an alley by several drunken men and nearly bullied.
Timothea, sitting in a black luxury car, watched expressionlessly.
Just as they were about to pull off Harper’s pants, a fist struck them, knocking them over.
Harper stared at her, still terrified. “It was you? Thank you for saving me…”
Timothea said nothing, took off her coat and covered him. “Where’s home? I’ll take you there.”
Harper shook his head bitterly. “No, I don’t have money for rent, so I’m sleeping in the hotel’s cleaning room.”
Timothea looked at him in surprise. Half an hour later, she handed Harper a bank card.
“Don’t work at the hotel anymore. Come be my assistant.”
Harper realized what was happening and was immediately overjoyed.
From that day on, she became Timothea’s personal assistant.
Her clothes were ironed by Harper.
Her life plans were arranged by Harper.
And yet, he did it better than anyone else.
But that day, Timothea came home early and leaned against the doorway, watching Harper clean out his closet.
As she watched, her expression changed.
“How do you know how to tie a bow like that?”
Timothea rushed over and grabbed the tie tightly, his hands shaking uncontrollably.
In his memory, only one person could do that: me, Bond.
Back in our humble rental apartment, I always used this method to amuse Timothea. Even the string used to tie the cake had to be tied with this kind of bow.
Timothea’s eyes flushed and she gripped Harper’s shoulders firmly.
“Tell me the truth, what’s your relationship with Bond? Where is he?”
Harper shook his head in confusion and fear.
“Ms. Johnston, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I learned how to tie a bow online.”
Timothea was completely unwilling to accept this.
Her intuition told her that Harper must be connected to Bond, but she hadn’t found out what that relationship was.
Timothea stared at the man in front of her.
It was as if she could see through his face to the person behind him.
I floated in midair, a mixture of emotions.
Harper and I looked about 50% similar, but there were some differences in our gestures.
But if he was deliberately imitating me, someone who wasn’t particularly familiar with me wouldn’t be able to tell.
For example, his expression and demeanor at that moment made Timothea feel complicated and even the strength of her grip weakened considerably. As the two stared at each other, an ambiguous atmosphere gradually developed and Harper’s cheeks grew hot.
“Ms. Johnston, are you thinking of me as someone’s replacement? Do you love that man very much?”
Timothea’s eyes grew clearer and she was about to let go.
Harper’s face suddenly showed pain and he fell back.
“I feel so dizzy, Ms. Johnston…”
Timothea held him firmly.
Elmer, who had just arrived, witnessed this scene. He froze in place, his face pale and the teacup in his hand clattered to the ground, shattering into pieces.
“Timothea! Who is this man?” Elmer felt as if his entire body was about to break.
He threw himself over and sobbed uncontrollably.
“Timothea, is this what you said about forgetting Bond and planning to live with me? If you really had forgotten him, why would you have found a replacement?”
“Elmer, stop it.”
Timothea frowned and stopped Elmer’s movements. “He’s just my new personal assistant. He has nothing to do with Bond.”
But Elmer wouldn’t believe anything she said. “You’re both hugging each other now and you still dare to claim innocence? Timothea, you heartless person, have you forgotten when you were lying in bed with leukemia, with no one paying attention and I was the only one taking care of you? I knew you’d never forgotten Bond all these years!”
“Elmer!” Timothea frowned fiercely. “That’s enough. He was just feeling unwell and I was just supporting him. Nothing happened between us. Don’t let your imagination run wild. The wedding will go on as planned next month.”
Soon, a private doctor arrived to see Harper.
“Ms. Johnston, Mr. Heath is overworked and needs to rest.”
So, Timothea gave him a week off.
Harper didn’t have a place to live to begin with and as a personal assistant, he’d been living in the nanny’s quarters on the first floor of the villa.
Especially since he hadn’t been working these past few days and had been living in the villa every day, Elmer was practically gnashing his teeth. That day, while Timothea was away, Elmer stared at him coldly. “Harper, right? I’ve researched you. You’re just a cleaner. Timothea hired you as her personal assistant out of pity. If you think you can replace me this way, then give up on it!”
Elmer deliberately pulled out a wedding photo of Timothea and me and waved it in front of Harper with a sneer.
“Do you think you bear a resemblance to the man in the photo? I’ll tell you straight up, my wife hates the man in the photo. She only keeps you around because you look like him and wants to take revenge on him. If you had any sense, you’d get out of here.”
Harper kept his head down, his emotions unreadable; only a muffled tone could be heard, “Got it.”
Elmer even had someone write a resignation letter on the spot and had Harper give it to Timothea.
When he took the resignation letter to the study, Harper saw Timothea, drunk once again and lay lost in thought on the lounge chair in the study.
She stared blankly at a pendant on the wall.
She glanced at it and immediately recognized it as a worthless street vendor item.
How could Timothea, a billionaire CEO, even care for such a cheap item?
Before he could ask, Timothea spoke up. “This was given to me by Bond. I was broke back then. He’d been dating me since I was 18. He said that as long as I had this God of Wealth pennis pendant, I’d become a millionaire.”
Timothea’s face flickered with a wry smile.
“It’s a pity that this day has come, but he’s gone. Harper, how cruel could this man be? To force me to have an abortion, leave me with a divorce agreement and walk away when he thought I wouldn’t live long?”
Harper lowered his head in silence for a long moment before replying, “Then have you ever considered that he might be dead?”
“Impossible!”
Timothea bristled. “I forbid you to curse him! A man as cruel as him has avoided me for five years. I wonder where he’s gone to live a comfortable life. How could he possibly be dead?”
Harper smiled. “Just pretend I didn’t say anything, Ms. Johnston. This is the resignation letter Mr. Elmer asked me to give you. He told me to get out.”
That night, the villa’s power went out.
Outside the window, a torrential rain began to fall, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Harper opened my closet and pulled out the pajamas I’d been wearing.
He ran up to Elmer, pretending to be haunted and startled him into a shrill scream.
“Ah! Bond, don’t come looking for me… Get out of here! I didn’t kill you. Blame your own bad luck!”
Elmer was so frightened he went insane. He ran for his life but bumped into someone’s chest and let out another shrill, terrified scream.
“Elmer, it’s me!”
The next second, the lights flickered on.
Timothea appeared with a stern face.
“Enough! Stop playing tricks. Harper, I knew you had ulterior motives from the beginning. Now tell me what you’re up to. What’s your plan?”
Hearing this, Harper sneered and took off his mask. “I didn’t expect you’d figured it out already. Timothea, haven’t you always suspected my purpose for coming here?”
He was a completely different person from the cleaner before. Now he stared coldly at Elmer, pointed at him and said, “I’m here to expose this man’s evil nature.”
Guilt flashed across Elmer’s already pale and disheveled face and he panicked and shook Timothea’s arm.
“Timothea, don’t listen to his nonsense. This bitch is deliberately trying to sow discord among us. Get him out!”
Timothea, who always doted on Elmer, now remained motionless.
She patted Elmer’s back gently.
“Don’t worry. I want to see what he’s up to. Harper, just say what you want to say.”
Harper sneered, his eyes fixed coldly on the man in her arms. “Elmer, do you dare tell Timothea where Bond is and whether he’s alive or dead? And who was the person who donated bone marrow to Timothea?”
