Chapter 1

"I'm telling you, Mark, Isaac has been acting strange lately," I said, gripping my steering wheel as I pulled into my driveway.

"Strange how, Crystal?" Mark's voice crackled through the car's Bluetooth.

"He's distant. He avoids talking about the merger. And he keeps asking about my father's shares."

"They are your shares now," Mark reminded me. "You hold fifty-one percent of Dawson Enterprises. Don't sign anything without letting me read it first."

"I wouldn't do that," I said, frowning at the dashboard. "But he’s my husband. He runs the daily operations. He says consolidating the shares under his name will make the board respect him more."

"The board respects profit," Mark countered sharply. "Keep your equity. If he loves you, he won't pressure you."

"I know, I know. I'll talk to him tonight. I just want a quiet evening with him."

"Call me tomorrow," Mark said. "We have the quarterly review at ten."

"Will do. Bye."

I ended the call and grabbed my purse. The evening air felt unusually cold as I walked up the steps to my front door.

I pressed my thumb against the biometric scanner.

A red light flashed. *Access denied.*

"What?" I muttered.

I wiped my thumb on my skirt and pressed it against the glass panel again.

*Access denied.*

"Stupid machine." I punched in the numerical passcode. Four, seven, nine, two.

*Error. Passcode incorrect.*

"You have got to be kidding me." I pounded the heel of my hand against the door frame. "Isaac!"

No answer.

I pulled out my phone and dialed his number. It rang three times before going straight to voicemail.

"Hey, it's me," I said to his recording. "The door won't open. The code isn't working. Are you inside?"

I hung up and shoved the phone into my pocket. I pressed my ear against the heavy oak door.

A faint sound vibrated through the wood. A thud. A high-pitched squeal.

"Isaac?" I called out, louder this time. "Open the door!"

Still nothing.

I stepped off the porch and walked around the side of the house. The gravel crunched under my flats. Our living room featured massive floor-to-ceiling windows. Usually, the smart-blinds closed automatically at sunset, but tonight, they remained open just a fraction.

One of the sliding glass panels sat slightly ajar.

I approached the gap, raising my hand to knock. "Isaac, I'm locked out—"

The words died in my throat.

My hand froze in mid-air.

Isaac sat on the edge of the beige leather sofa. His pants were bunched around his ankles.

A woman straddled him. Her back faced the window, but I instantly recognized the birthmark on her left shoulder blade.

Tina. My half-sister.

"Fuck, Isaac," Tina moaned, her voice carrying perfectly through the cracked window. "Right there. Don't stop."

My stomach violently twisted.

Isaac’s large hands gripped Tina’s bare hips. His knuckles turned white as he pulled her down onto his thick cock, thrusting upward with brutal force.

"You like that?" he grunted. He buried his face in her neck, biting down on her skin.

"Yes! Fuck, yes!" Tina shrieked. She threw her head back, her blonde hair whipping wildly.

I couldn't move. My feet felt glued to the patio stones.

Isaac pushed her up slightly, pulling his cock almost completely out before slamming it back deep inside her cunt. The wet, slapping sound of their bodies colliding echoed into the night air.

"You're so fucking wet for me," Isaac growled, his voice thick with lust.

"Only for you," she panted, grinding her hips in a circular motion. "I want you so bad."

My chest constricted. I opened my mouth, but no sound came out.

Tina slowed her frantic bouncing. She leaned her chest against his, her bare breasts pressing into his shirt. She wrapped her arms around his neck, tracing his jawline with her manicured nails.

"Crystal won't be mad, will she?" Tina asked.

Isaac stopped moving. "Mad about what?"

"That I changed the front door passcode." Tina giggled. It was the same innocent giggle she used at family dinners. "I just wanted to be with you. I couldn't risk her walking in on us. What should we do if she finds out?"

He grabbed her right breast, squeezing the nipple hard between his fingers. "Don't worry about it."

"But she's your wife," Tina whined, feigning guilt.

"It's fine," Isaac said, kissing her collarbone. "I'll tell her the old code got leaked. I'll say I changed it for our safety."

Tina purred. She leaned down and bit his bottom lip. "You’re always so fucking smart."

She pushed herself up and down on his cock again. The pace started slow, then ramped up into a frantic rhythm.

"Isaac," Tina gasped, her eyes fluttering shut. "When are you going to talk to her?"

"Talk to her about what?" he asked. His breathing grew heavy. He grabbed her waist, forcing her to take deeper thrusts.

"The shares," Tina managed to say between moans. "When are you going to make her hand over her shares in the company?"

"Soon," Isaac grunted. "She trusts me completely."

"She's so stupid," Tina laughed.

"Just let me handle my stupid wife," Isaac said. "Focus on this. Focus on me."

"Fuck me harder," Tina begged.

"I'm going to ruin you," he sneered, pounding into her.

My stupid wife.

The phrase repeated in my head. Over and over.

The sounds of their fucking faded into static. The world tilted on its axis.

I backed away from the window. My shoe caught the edge of a planter box. I stumbled, barely catching myself before I hit the ground.

"Did you hear something?" Tina asked inside.

I didn't wait to see if Isaac looked out the window. I spun around and bolted.

I sprinted across the lawn, my shoes tearing up the manicured grass. I reached the sidewalk and kept running.

"Crystal! Wait!" a voice yelled from down the street. It was Mrs. Gable, holding her poodle's leash.

"Leave me alone!" I screamed at her, not breaking my stride.

"Are you okay?" she called out.

I ignored her. I ran past the streetlights, past the rows of identical suburban mansions. I didn't know where I was going. I just needed to put as much distance between me and that house as possible.

My chest burned. My throat felt raw.

"Stupid wife," I sobbed out loud. "You stupid, stupid idiot."

I ran until my legs turned to lead. I ran until the massive silhouette of our villa disappeared completely behind the tree line.

I stopped at a bus stop bench, gripping the metal armrest.

My vision blurred. The streetlights stretched into long, blinding yellow lines.

A sharp pain shot through my temples.

"Isaac," I whispered.

My knees gave out. The concrete rushed up to meet me.

Everything went completely black.

But right before I lost consciousness, I heard the screech of tires and a car door slamming shut.

Chapter 2

The harsh fluorescent lights forced my eyes open. I blinked against the blinding white ceiling, the sharp smell of antiseptic burning my nose.

"Ah, you're awake," a voice said.

I turned my head. A doctor in a white coat stood by the foot of the bed, tapping a stylus against a tablet.

"Where am I?" My voice cracked, dry and hoarse.

"Mercy General," the doctor replied, stepping closer. "You collapsed on the sidewalk last night. Severe exhaustion and emotional shock."

I reached for the plastic tray table, my fingers fumbling against the edges. "My husband... did Isaac bring me in?"

The doctor shook his head. "An anonymous gentleman carried you into the emergency room. He paid your entire medical bill in cash and left before we could get a name."

"Anonymous?"

"He just wanted to make sure you were stable. Your phone is right there." He pointed to the small nightstand next to my bed. "Get some rest, Mrs. Dawson."

The doctor walked out, leaving me alone in the sterile room.

I grabbed my phone from the table and tapped the screen. Zero missed calls. Zero text messages.

Isaac hadn't even noticed I was gone. Or worse, he knew exactly where I was and simply didn't care.

I opened my social media feed. The very first post at the top of my timeline made my stomach violently twist.

It was Tina.

She stood in front of the massive floor-to-ceiling windows of my living room. She wore my white silk robe, the one Isaac bought me for our anniversary. Her blonde hair rested neatly over her right shoulder.

The caption read: *The home that truly belongs to me is finally back.*

I zoomed in on the bottom right corner of the photo. A man's hand rested on the glass coffee table. Around his wrist sat a limited-edition Patek Philippe watch.

I had engraved the back of that watch myself. It was Isaac's.

My thumb hovered over the screen. They weren't just hiding an affair. They were flaunting it. They were trying to force me out of my own life, taunting me to react.

I shoved the thin hospital blanket off my legs. I grabbed the IV needle taped to my hand and ripped it out of my vein. A drop of blood rolled down my knuckles.

I wiped it on my skirt and marched out the door.

An hour later, the glass doors of Dawson Enterprises parted as I walked into the main lobby.

I pulled my ID badge from my purse and slapped it against the turnstile scanner.

A red light flashed. *Access Denied.*

I hit the plastic card against the glass again.

*Access Denied.*

"Ms. Dawson," a nervous voice called out.

I looked up. Greg, the board secretary, hurried across the marble floor. Two large security guards trailed closely behind him.

"Fix this scanner, Greg," I demanded, gripping the plastic turnstile. "I have a ten o'clock meeting with Mark."

Greg stopped a few feet away. He refused to meet my eyes. "That meeting is canceled. Actually, all your meetings are canceled."

"Excuse me?"

"Isaac called an emergency board session this morning," Greg mumbled, staring at his expensive leather shoes. "He presented medical documents. He claimed you are suffering from severe mental instability."

My jaw tightened. "I own fifty-one percent of this company. He can't suspend me."

"He can if the board votes you unfit to lead."

"Get out of my way." I shoved the turnstile. It wouldn't budge.

The private executive elevator chimed open. My father, Arthur Dawson, stepped into the lobby. He wore a crisp navy suit, his silver hair perfectly styled.

"Dad!" I yelled, waving my hand. "Tell security to let me up. Isaac is trying to steal my shares."

Arthur walked toward me, his expression entirely blank. He didn't look like a father seeing his daughter after a hospital stint. He looked like a judge delivering a sentence.

"Go home, Crystal," Arthur said. His voice echoed in the cavernous lobby, drawing stares from the receptionists.

"Did you hear what I said? Isaac locked me out of my own house. He's sleeping with Tina!"

"Lower your voice," Arthur snapped, glancing around at the whispering employees.

"No! He was screwing her on my sofa last night. Now he's locking me out of my company. You have to stop him."

Arthur adjusted his silk tie. "Isaac is doing what is best for Dawson Enterprises. Your erratic behavior is exactly why you are no longer fit to be CEO."

I stared at him. The lobby spun around me. "You knew."

"Tina is your sister," Arthur said smoothly. "She has a steady head on her shoulders. Sign your majority shares over to her. It will keep the peace in this family."

"Keep the peace?" I laughed. The sound was harsh, scraping against my dry throat. "You want me to hand my mother's company over to your bastard daughter?"

Arthur's face flushed purple. "You are completely out of control." He turned to the guards. "Escort her off the premises. If she comes back, call the police."

The two guards grabbed my upper arms.

"Don't touch me!" I thrashed against their grip.

They dragged me backward through the glass doors. The morning heat hit my face. They shoved me onto the concrete sidewalk.

I stumbled, scraping my palms against the pavement to catch my fall.

"Do not return, Ms. Dawson," one of the guards warned before turning around and locking the exterior doors.

I sat on the curb, staring at the towering skyscraper my grandfather built. My father had just sold me out to his mistress's daughter. Isaac had orchestrated the entire thing, isolating me, labeling me crazy, and stealing my legacy.

A low engine hum broke my focus.

A black Maybach pulled up to the curb, stopping inches from my scuffed knees.

The rear passenger window glided down.

A man sat in the back seat. He wore a tailored charcoal suit that screamed old money. His dark hair was perfectly swept back, and his sharp, angular jawline cast a harsh shadow against his neck. His eyes, a piercing icy blue, locked onto mine.

"Miss Dawson," he said. His tone held absolutely no pity.

I pushed myself off the ground, dusting the dirt from my skirt. "Who are you?"

"Someone who hates watching a rigged game." He leaned forward slightly. "You finally see them for what they are."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

He picked up a thick manila folder from the leather seat next to him and extended it through the open window.

"Take it," he ordered.

I hesitated, then grabbed the heavy envelope. I flipped open the cover.

The first page was a DNA paternity test.

The second page was a private investigator's log.

I read the bold black text at the top of the summary sheet.

*Isaac and Tina: Five-Year Secret Relationship Timeline.*

My lungs forgot how to work. Five years. They had been sleeping together since before Isaac and I even got married.

I flipped to the next page.

*Investigation into the death of Eleanor Dawson. Conclusion: Foul Play.*

My mother.

My hands started to shake so violently the papers rattled against each other. I looked up at the man in the car.

"Where did you get this?" I demanded.

"The truth is expensive, Crystal. But it's rarely hidden forever." He pushed the heavy car door open.

He shifted over, leaving an empty seat beside him.

"If you want to cry, stay on the curb," he said, his gaze dropping to the file in my hands. "But if you want to take back everything that belongs to you... get in."

Chapter 3

I refused to believe the stranger in the Maybach. Not entirely.

"Isaac is just blind," I muttered to myself as I pushed open the heavy mahogany door of my villa. "Tina manipulated him. He just needs to see the truth."

Tina stood in the foyer, wearing my favorite cashmere sweater. She froze, dropping a crystal vase. It shattered on the marble floor.

"Crystal!" Tina gasped. She shrank back against the wall, covering her mouth. Fake tears instantly welled in her eyes. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Isaac rushed out of the kitchen. He wrapped his arm around Tina's waist, pulling her flush against him.

"What are you doing here?" Isaac snapped, glaring at me. "The hospital called. They said you ran away. You need to be in bed."

"I don't need a bed, Isaac," I said, marching toward them. "I need an explanation."

I slammed the thick manila envelope onto the glass console table. "I know everything. Read it. She’s been playing you. She’s playing both of us."

Tina buried her face in Isaac’s chest. "Make her stop, Isaac! She’s having another episode. She keeps saying we’re sleeping together. Now she thinks I want her shares. I’m so scared."

"Stop lying!" I screamed, pointing toward the living room. "I saw you on the couch last night! I heard you talking about my company!"

"You were hallucinating," Isaac said calmly. "The doctors warned me this might happen."

"I was not hallucinating! You told her you were going to ruin me!"

Isaac didn't even glance at the papers. He snatched the envelope and ripped it in half. He tore it again, tossing the shreds into the air. The pieces fluttered to the floor like dirty snow.

"What are you doing?" I lunged forward, trying to catch the falling papers. "That was the proof!"

He shoved me back. His large hands hit my shoulders hard. "Stop this insanity, Crystal. You’ve completely lost your mind."

"That file proves you two have been together for five years!" I yelled, my voice cracking. "It proves she killed my mother!"

Tina let out a dramatic sob. "Isaac, she's accusing me of murder now! Call someone. Please!"

"You have severe paranoia," Isaac said, his tone turning to ice. "I already filed the paperwork with the court this morning. You are medically unfit to manage Dawson Enterprises."

My stomach dropped. "You can't do that. I own fifty-one percent."

"Not anymore. A judge granted me emergency conservatorship over your assets."

"He had no right!"

"He had every right," a new voice echoed through the hallway.

I spun around. My father, Arthur, stood in the open doorway. Two large men in white scrubs flanked him.

"Dad, tell him!" I pleaded, rushing toward Arthur. "Tell him he can't take my company. They are stealing everything!"

Arthur adjusted his cuffs, refusing to meet my gaze. "I signed the medical certificate myself, Crystal. You need serious psychiatric help."

"No." I backed away, my chest tightening. "You’re in on this. You knew about them. You want Tina to have my shares."

"You are sick," Arthur stated flatly. "Your mother suffered from the same delusions before she died. I won't let you destroy this family."

"I am not sick! I am your daughter!"

"Restrain her," Arthur ordered the men.

The orderlies lunged. Rough hands gripped my wrists, twisting my arms behind my back.

"Let go of me!" I thrashed, kicking my legs. My shoe connected with one man's shin, but he didn't flinch.

A needle pierced my upper arm. A cold burn spread through my veins.

My knees buckled. I slumped against the orderly, the room spinning.

Isaac stepped forward. He held a clipboard, quickly scribbling his signature on the bottom line.

"Come back when you're normal," Isaac said.

He dropped the pen onto my chest. He reached out and laced his fingers through Tina's.

"Let's go home, baby," Isaac whispered to her.

"Thank you for protecting me," Tina cooed, leaning her head on his shoulder.

They turned and walked toward the living room, never looking back. Not even when I screamed his name.

The edges of my vision darkened. The last thing I saw was the torn paternity test scattered across the floor.

***

The next four days blurred into a nightmare of locked doors and forced pills.

"Swallow it," the nurse demanded, holding a small paper cup to my lips.

"I am not crazy," I said, clenching my jaw. "My husband is stealing my company. Call my lawyer."

"Paranoid delusions," the doctor muttered, writing on a chart. "Patient believes family members are conspiring against her. Increase the dosage."

"Check the security cameras at my house!" I yelled at the doctor. "Ask my assistant for the board meeting minutes! Just make one phone call!"

"Restrain her," the doctor sighed.

"Don't touch me!" I screamed as two nurses grabbed my shoulders.

They pinned me down onto the stiff mattress. They forced the pills down my throat, holding my nose until I had to swallow. The bitter taste coated my tongue.

Every time I spoke the truth, they marked it as a psychotic break. My husband, my father, and my sister had locked me in a cage to steal my life. My hope turned to ash. I stopped speaking entirely. I just stared at the blank white wall, waiting for the drugs to pull me under.

A loud crash outside my room shattered the silence.

Heavy footsteps echoed down the corridor. Voices overlapped in a panicked frenzy.

"Sir, you can't go in there!" a nurse yelled.

"Watch me," a deep voice replied.

The metal door swung open, slamming against the wall.

The hospital director scrambled into the room, sweating profusely. He bowed his head repeatedly toward the doorway.

Evan stepped inside.

He wore a crisp black suit today, the jacket unbuttoned. His icy blue eyes scanned the barren room before locking onto me. He held a thick stack of legal documents.

"What is the meaning of this?" I croaked, my throat raw from days of screaming.

Evan tossed the papers onto my narrow cot. "From now on, I own this hospital. No one can lock you up anymore."

The director wrung his hands. "Mr. Evan, we didn't know she was affiliated with you. The Dawson family paid us to—"

"Get out," Evan interrupted, not breaking eye contact with me.

The director hesitated. "But her father has legal guardianship—"

Evan turned his head slightly. "If you are still standing in this room in three seconds, I will buy your medical license and shred it."

The director fled, pulling the door shut behind him.

Evan stepped closer. He reached down and unbuckled the heavy leather strap pinning my left wrist to the bed rail. He moved to the right side and freed my other arm.

I rubbed my chafed skin, staring at the red marks. "Why are you doing this? You don't even know me."

"Because you've shed enough tears for people who aren't worth it," Evan said. His gaze darkened, sharp and dangerous. "I will help you take back your company. I will help you crush them."

I stared at him. The betrayal still burned in my chest, but looking at Evan, a new fire ignited. "What do you want in return? Men like you don't do favors for free."

"You are absolutely right," he said, extending his hand. "You just need to agree to work with me. We share a common enemy."

I looked at the open door. Freedom. Revenge.

I didn't hesitate this time.

I placed my hand in his. "Okay," I said, my voice steadying. "I'll go with you."

Evan’s fingers closed around mine, pulling me up from the mattress.

"Good," he murmured. "Because your husband is currently hosting a press conference to announce your permanent institutionalization. And we are going to crash it."
