The Lie That Tore Us Apart Chapter 1

Ryan Miller returned to the country when I and Ariel Wilson loved each other most.

Ariel was only three months pregnant. She shrank into a small ball and sat in my arms, pulling my hand to her belly, comforting softly.

"Jay, don't worry, the three of us will never be separated."

Such lies were eventually exposed.

That day, I accompanied her to the rooftop and persuaded Ryan to come down, but I saw them kissing tightly with my own eyes.

I should have known the depth of their bond.

Later, she knelt on the ground and begged me not to leave.

I didn't say a word, just placed the ultrasound image of the already formed fetus in front of her, but she completely lost her mind.

——

Ariel said she was going to a party tonight and told me to eat first with no need to wait for her.

I looked at the screenshot of the Instagram Moments sent by my friend, and my heart ached as if it was bleeding.

In the photo, two beautiful hands were holding each other tightly.

The woman's hand was as white and delicate as white jade, as smooth as mutton fat. The wedding ring on her ring finger was gone, replaced by a faint white mark.

I dialed her phone number, and it rang for a while before she answered.

"What's wrong, Jay?"

Ariel's voice was very gentle, without any flaws.

I took a deep breath, barely suppressing the trembling in my voice.

"Where are you?"

There was an obvious moment of silence on the other end of the phone.

"I'm having a party with my sisters, and I'll come back to accompany you as soon as it's over, okay?"

This was the first time she lied to me in such a long time, because of Ryan.

Ariel, when you lied to me, were you feeling guilty towards me, or regretful about not being able to continue to accompany him?

I had liked her for 10 years, but for a moment, I didn't even have the courage to break this lie.

I just sat quietly on the sofa, looking at the wedding photo hanging on the wall.

In the photo, I was smiling contentedly, holding her, as if I had the whole world.

The candlelight flickered, creating a romantic and melancholic atmosphere.

This day was the 3rd anniversary of our marriage.

The candlelight dinner that was prepared early became a huge joke.

Why does it have to be today?

I didn't know how long it took, long enough for the vehicles on the road to gradually become sparse.

I heard the sound of the door opening, and the familiar sound of footsteps came closer.

"Jay, I'm sorry."

Ariel threw herself into my arms and hugged me tightly.

Just thinking about these hands that were just holding Ryan, I couldn't help but feel nauseous.

Before I could push her away, she rushed into the bathroom.

It was morning sickness.

I couldn't breathe from the pain in my heart. Even though I knew she was with Ryan and she couldn't forget him, I couldn't do anything.

I looked up at myself in the mirror. My face was pale and dark, and I was extremely gloomy.

On Ariel's neck, a light pink hickey appeared dramatically.

She realized that I was staring at her.

"Jay, it's not what you think.

"This, this is just a bug bite, believe me."

She looked very flustered, worried to the point of overflowing.

I didn't say anything and shifted my gaze.

Seeing that I didn't believe her, she somehow magically pulled out a pair of cufflinks.

The gemstones shimmered with a delicate luster under the light, very beautiful.

"Happy 3rd anniversary!"

I let her put them on me.

It turned out she didn't forget, but she just chose Ryan, who needed her more.

"Did you go to find him?"

I calmly and firmly stated the fact.

Ariel's proud expression instantly crumbled.

"I'm sorry..."

She held my hand like a deflated ball.

"Ryan's wife cheated on him and occasionally beat him. He had no choice but to come back alone with the child. I felt sorry for him and afraid that you would be emotionally unstable, so..."

I took over her words, "So you hid it from me and held hands with him. As long as I didn't know, it didn't matter."

I looked up at her, staring at her intently, unwilling to miss any of her expressions.

I was also afraid that she would say anything that she didn't love me.

"No, it's not like that, Jay."

Perhaps knowing the explanation was pale, or perhaps unable to come up with a reason to continue lying, she just held me, thinking that this could erase everything.
