Chapter 9

Cassandra

"Gab, Ella, wake up. We've arrived," I gently shake my children as we sit on the plane. After enduring a long flight, we have finally landed in New York.

"Mommy, where are we?" Lindsey asks, her eyes still drowsy, while Finley yawns and tries to fall back asleep. This is the first time the three of us have flown together, and it's going to be a challenge. "Gabby, please wake up. You can go back to sleep once we reach the hotel. Wake up," I coax him, but he ends up crying softly. Thankfully, it's not too loud.

"Miss, I'm sorry, but you need to disembark the plane," one of the flight attendants kindly informs me. "Alright, just give me a moment," I reply, lifting Finley and holding Lindsey's hand with my free hand. You can do this, Cassandra. You can handle it.

Thankfully, we have safely arrived at the hotel. My body aches from carrying Finley, even during the taxi ride. He sure loves his sleep, while Lindsey always seems to have a hearty appetite. Despite being twins, they have distinct personalities.

"Mommy, I'm hungry," Lindsey tugs at my dress. I look at her in disbelief. "Lindsey, you just ate like 20 minutes ago," I remind her, and she starts to whine. "Alright, alright. Mommy will order room service." No matter what, I won't let my children go hungry. I call for room service to deliver some food, and shortly after, the meal arrives. Lindsey jumps with joy at the sight of the food. I allow them to eat on their own since they prefer it that way. The last time I tried to feed them, they ended up sulking.

It's 6:15, and I have about fifteen minutes left before our driver arrives to take us to the launch. I'm feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness. The nerves come from the fear that something might not go as planned during the event.

Taking a deep breath, I try to stay positive. "Everything will be fine," I reassure myself.

I'm already dressed in my outfit for the evening, and with one final touch, I remove my earrings. "Finley, Lindsey, come here," I call out to my children.

"Mommy, I'm not a present," Finley protests while pointing at his bow. I can't help but smile at his adorable frown. Finley looks so handsome in his little tuxedo, just like his father.

"But you look so handsome when you wear it. So, will you wear it?" I gently pinch his cheeks, and he nods in agreement. Once Finley is ready, I turn my attention to Lindsey, who has messy hair. "Ella, come here. I need to style your hair," I say, and she quickly runs over from the bed.

"Mommy, can you make my hair like a princess?" she requests, and I nod with a smile. I guide her to a chair and begin styling her hair. After a few minutes, her hair is neatly braided into a French braid. She looks absolutely adorable. Glancing at the time, I grab my purse.

"Let's go, kids. It's time to leave," I announce, and they excitedly rush out of the room. These children sure have an abundance of energy. I shake my head in amusement.

It takes just 10 minutes to reach my new boutique. As I step inside, I'm greeted by the bustling atmosphere of preparation and the presence of the models who will bring my designs to life. A smile naturally forms on my lips as I realize that my career is steadily growing. Tonight is going to be a busy night.

I realize that I should have brought Riley along to help take care of my babies. Unfortunately, I hadn't thought of it earlier. I quickly scan the room, searching for someone I can trust to look after Finley and Lindsey. I need to find someone soon before they start running around and make it difficult for me to focus. "Finley, Lindsey, come with me. Let's go," I call out to them, leading them to an available room, which happens to be the office. Perfect.

"Listen to me, please don't run around in this place. It's filled with lots of people, and you might get lost. It would make mommy so sad if that happened. Do you want to see mommy cry again?" I ask them, hoping they understand and behave just for tonight. They shake their heads, and I hope their determination holds true. Just then, the door opens, revealing my secretary. I had contacted her earlier, asking if she could take care of Finley and Lindsey, and I was relieved when she agreed.

Chapter 10

"I apologize for burdening you with taking care of my kids tonight. I should have brought their nanny along, but it slipped my mind. I feel quite careless," I express to her, a tinge of guilt in my voice.

"It's fine, Ms. Walker. I can handle it. I used to take care of my niece, so I believe I can manage this. Please don't worry about them," she reassures me.

"I trust you, and don't worry, I'll increase your pay this month. I owe you one. I think I should go now," I say, appreciating her willingness to help, and she nods with a smile.

"To both of you, listen to her, alright? I'll be back as soon as I can. I love you both, and thank you again," I tell Finley and Lindsey before walking out of the office. I greet the people in attendance before the show begins. Making my way backstage, I see the models getting ready.

"Alright, everyone!" I call out, gathering their attention before the event starts. "I want all of you to give your best and good luck to everyone." With that, the models and staff disperse, finding their positions.

I glance at the audience, seeing the seats filling up, and my nerves kick in. When it's time, I walk out to make my entrance before the entire audience. Putting on a smile, I start delivering the speech that I've been practicing diligently for the past two days.

After a tiring and hectic show, I find myself exhausted from running around to ensure all the models are ready. "Where's the model for this design?" I inquired, but received a shake of the head from one of the models. Exiting the makeup room, I continue my search for the missing model.

In my haste, I accidentally collide with someone, sensing their presence through the fragrance of their cologne. "I'm sorry," I hurriedly apologize without looking at their face, my mind solely focused on finding the model. With that, I swiftly walk away without giving them a chance to respond. Though I believe it was a man due to the cologne, I can't be certain.

Finally, after a few minutes, my predicament is resolved. I find a seat and take a moment to catch my breath. I close my eyes for a brief second. "I need to check on the twins," I murmur to myself before rising to see how they're doing.

"Hey, kids," I greet them as they rush over to me. "Whoa, why the rush?" I inquire.

"We missed you, mommy. Where were you?" Lindsey pouts.

"I'm sorry, I was just caught up with everything earlier, but now I'm free. Besides, the event has concluded, and we can head back to the hotel in a few minutes." I look at Lindsey, then at Finley, who appears ready to fall asleep at any moment.

"Thank you, Hera. I know they can be quite energetic and challenging to manage," I express my gratitude.

"They're actually quite easy to take care of, especially Lindsey. Once she has food, she stays in one place and eats quietly. Finley, on the other hand, falls asleep for about 20 minutes, then wakes up crying, searching for you."

"I don't know how to thank you enough. I'm truly grateful, from the bottom of my heart."

"It's no problem at all. It's getting late, so I suggest you take them back to the hotel since they seem tired." I glance at my children, and indeed, they appear weary.

"Alright, I'll see you in LA then. Goodnight." With that, I lift the sleeping Finley from the couch and hold Lindsey's hand.

The event lasted approximately five hours, and now it's past midnight, 12:03. Despite my fatigue, I feel an overwhelming sense of joy and fulfillment as the event was a resounding success. It was worth every ounce of exhaustion I'm currently feeling.

Upon reaching the hotel, I gently place Finley on the bed, allowing him to continue his peaceful slumber. For Lindsey, I carefully change her clothes and cleanse her face, ensuring she's comfortable before bedtime. After taking a refreshing shower, I change Finley's clothes and put them on the bed.

Observing Lindsey, who is already sound asleep without any fuss, I realize just how exhausted they must be from the event. Tenderly kissing their foreheads, I settle myself for a restful sleep, grateful to have my precious children by my side.
