Delvin's POV
"Alpha, we might have to leave early," my Beta, Kent said from outside my bedroom door.
"Go away Kent. I am not ready to leave here yet," I said and I heard the female beside me chuckle in excitement.
"We must leave as soon as possible Alpha. It is the first day. You have to at least address them," Kent insisted.
I groaned, the female beside me decided to turn to me at that moment and placed a hand on my bare chest while she pouted.
"Why don't you ask him to go away for real this time, Alpha? I might have some tricks up my sleeves to keep you entertained," she said, trying to sound sexy, but she sounded like a dying cat.
"Get out," I growled at her and she immediately stood up and started scampering around the room to gather her torn clothes before she ran out.
"Alpha," Kent greeted as he came in after the female had run out.
"What is the worst that would happen if I don't address them today, Kent?" I asked.
"You will then have to postpone until you are ready to do it. They will be there for the next four years, remember?" Kent said putting emphasis on four years.
"I will be out in a minute," I said and Kent left me to get dressed.
It wasn't as if I didn't like addressing the new trainees. I just hated the rigors that came with training them. I hated the way some of them gave up in the course of the training.
I went through worse training but I kept pushing because I knew that anyone that would lead Blood Moon Pack couldn't be a weakling.
Blood Moon was known for its training because my great-grandfather accepted the royal proposal to have the camp training Alphas in his pack since he was one of the most powerful Alphas of his time. Since then, Alphas have been brought to Red Moon for training.
We had four locations for the training. The first location is where the new trainees are welcomed and they stay for one whole year before they are moved to a new location to allow new trainees in. Trainees spend a year in each location, and as the years roll by, their tasks become more and more difficult, hence the change of location.
I got dressed after having a quick bath and I went outside to see that Kent had gotten everything ready. It was just some minutes to five o'clock am.
"How many trainees do we have this time?" I asked Kent as the car started and we moved.
"We have eighty of them Alpha," Kent answered.
"Eighty? Have we ever had that many?" I asked frowning.
"No, Alpha, but we have the facilities to accommodate them," Kent replied.
"Fine," I said.
There was silence in the car after that but I was suddenly feeling restless. At some point, I felt hot and wound down the window on my side so that I could let in the morning breeze.
"The air conditioner is working, Alpha," Kent said, glancing at me briefly.
"I don't think the air conditioner is working. I feel hot suddenly," I said, and I saw the driver increase the car air conditioner, yet I could still feel the heat.
At some point, I discovered that the heat was coming from within. I closed my eyes and summoned my wolf.
"What is going on?" I asked.
"I don't know. I feel restless all of a sudden. Something in the air is getting to me," my wolf answered.
I closed the link and tried concentrating on my environment. My wolf had never been confused about what was to come. If there was danger looming, my wolf would point it out so I was very worried about his confusion at that moment.
"We are here, Alpha," Kent said, bringing me out of my musing.
I nodded and got out of the car. The instant the morning air blew my way, my heart began to beat faster. I placed a hand on my chest and massaged the place where my heart was.
"Are you okay Alpha?" Kent asked looking worried.
"I am fine. I just feel restless all of a sudden," I answered.
"We can postpone this if you don't feel comfortable being here," Kent said.
"No. I should get it over with," I said, and then asked Kent to lead the way.
The more I approached the place where the new trainees were, the more restless I became. It was annoying. I needed to look confident and in charge. Fidgeting wasn't part of my person.
I walked into where the trainees were and the most beautiful smell hit me. My wolf almost made me stumble from excitement. I was happy but something about the smell was not right. There was a masculinity to the smell.
As one of the trainers introduced me, my eyes met with a gaze that was cold and distant. My wolf howled in excitement. I blinked twice trying to see if the mirage would disappear. I never thought that it would be possible for me to be mated to a male.
I had always believed that I was a straight male. I had never felt attracted to a male and I never planned on doing that. I wasn't that adventurous.
From the look on the face of my so-called mate, it was clear he wanted nothing to do with me. Anger rose in me like a furnace and I stared back at him with coldness. I had to get myself in check.
"You are welcome to Blood Moon. I do not see any reason why anyone should die in training. If at any point you feel like quitting, please do. Do not further tarnish our already tainted reputation. I guess you have already been informed that this is only a temporary resident for you and you will be here for just one year. The second year is for your training amidst the Blood Moon soldiers. If you perform very well in your first year, you will join the Blood Moon soldiers for the next year of your training," I paused and looked around as the trainees murmured.
"Quiet," Kent shouted and they all kept quiet immediately.
"I will be training you myself for your third year and your fourth year will be the most hectic of all. You will have tasks that will make you rue the day you were born but then after that, you will go back to your packs ready to defend them against invasions and rogues. Do you understand?" I said trying not to look at my mate.
"Yes sir," they responded.
"You," I said pointing to my mate. He stepped out without hesitating for a second.
"Yes sir," he said standing in front of me and making it more difficult for me to breathe as his scent made me feel weak.
"Follow me," I said, and then turned and started walking away.
I led the way to the office I used each time I was on the camp. My mate wasn't dragging his feet. He walked as briskly as Kent.
"Wait here," I said to Kent then made my mate follow me inside. I saw fear in his eyes when I asked Kent to stay outside. Good! I could take any emotion but coldness.
I closed the door behind my mate and waited for him to turn to me. I wanted to be sure I wasn't hallucinating so I walked towards him. With each step I took, he took one backward until his tigh hit the mahogany table, and he had no option but to sit on the edge.
"Why are you running away from me?" I asked.
"I don't want a mate especially not you," he said. His voice was like music to my ears.
"What is your name?" I asked as I stepped closer and gently used a hand to separate his thigh so that I could stand between them.
"My name is Ad Tate," He said, stammering.
"Ad Tate? What type of a name is that?" I asked.
"My name is Tate," he answered again swallowing hard. His voice shows that he was just maturing. It wasn't as deep as it should be.
"I am Delvin," I said.
"Why am I here Alpha?" He asked staring into my eyes. His eyes were beautiful and I felt more attracted to him.
"Are you ignorant of what is going on or are you pretending? You know why you are here," I said gritting my teeth.
I brought him there to be sure I was truly mated to a male and I was attracted to him. I needed him to allow me to prove that I didn't want him, but the more we were together, the more I wanted him, and my wolf was going mad in my head.
I pulled him up from his seat and kissed him. Contrary to his sex, his lips were soft and delicious. I just couldn't get enough of him. When I finally pulled back so I could breathe, he seemed to recover and pushed me off him before he ran out of the room.
I staggered, not from the push but from the fact that I was mated to a male and I enjoyed kissing him. He felt soft in my arms and he felt like I was touching a girl. Damn it! I was going mad.
"What is going on Alpha? Why did he run out like he had the devil after him? Why did you bring him here in the first place?" Kent fired one question after the other.
"Shut up, Kent," I growled at him before I took my seat on the sofa.
"I am sorry, Alpha, but I need to know," Kent said. I was out of the sofa in seconds and holding Kent by the throat. My grip was hard enough but not hard enough to cut his air supply.
"It is none of your business," I growled at him.
"I am sorry if I annoyed you, Alpha. It is not my intention," Kent said. Quickly finding a way to calm me down.
I hissed and sat down again. I held my head with both hands as I felt it throbbing. My wolf wanted me to go after my mate but I couldn't. It would destroy my reputation. Everyone knew I was tough, I couldn't be seen running after a boy.
"I am in trouble Kent," I said minutes l later.
"What is it Alpha?" Kent asked.
"That boy that just ran out of here is my mate," I said raising my head to meet Kent's eyes.
"That is impossible," Kent said with his eyes wide.
That was what I thought too!
Tate's POV
"Idiot," I cursed myself as I ran away from Alpha Delvin. He kissed me. He held me and I was sure he knew already that I was a girl.
I stopped running so that I could catch my breath before I joined the other trainees. I could hear the trainers giving instructions.
When I was sure that I had rested enough, I joined them, and I could see Tristan trying to get my attention, but we had no time to talk as we were being given exercises to do.
A lot of the trainees were stealing glances at me and I cursed Alpha Delvin in my mind for putting me in a situation like that. My plan was to go to the training and come out with flying colors just to prove those who thought females couldn't be Alphas wrong. But Alpha Delvin changed that because, in the eyes of the other trainees, I will always be that boy who got called by Alpha Delvin on the first day of training.
"Okay, everyone. That is all for this morning. Eat your food, have your bath, and get some rest. We return at one o'clock," one of the trainers said and we dispersed.
"Hey, wait," I heard Tristan calling but I didn't answer him as I walked briskly to the room without looking back.
I opened the door of the room in a hurry and closed it behind me with a bang. I never envisaged what happened. And I knew that men like Alpha Delvin would never give up on whatever they wanted.
"Hey. I was calling you but you wouldn't answer. What happened between you and the commandant?" Tristan asked as he walked in after me. He must have run because he was breathless.
"Why are you breathing like that?" I asked instead of answering his question.
"I had to run after you. Come on dude. If you speed walk that fast, how about when you run?" Tristan hissed before he slumped on his bed tiredly.
"I practiced with friends back at home," I said.
"So, why did the commandant want to see you?" Tristan asked again going back to his first question.
"He mistook me for someone," I lied.
"Really. Who could that be?" Tristan asked frowning.
"I don't know. He thought I was somebody he knew. After we got to his office, he looked at me closely and asked a few questions. When he saw that I wasn't who he thought I was, he apologized and said I could leave," I lied through my teeth.
I didn't know why, but I didn't feel so good about telling Tristan what was happening. Besides, we had just met, and I felt the information was too weighty to be told to a new friend.
"I was scared for you. I kept wondering what you had possibly done wrong but since it is a minor misunderstanding, let's have our bath and go down to eat," Tristan said.
"You have your bath first. I will go when you are through," I said absentmindedly.
"What is the big deal in having our baths together. It will only make bathing faster," Tristan said.
"No. I don't want that. Besides, the bathroom is not very big and we have just one shower head. Go and have your bath Tristan," I said dismissively.
Tristan took no offense at the way I said it. He simply shrugged and left the room to take his bath. When he was through, I took my clothes along with me to the bathroom and got dressed in the bathroom before I stepped out.
Tristan was waiting impatiently by the time I stepped out. I quickly wore my training shoes before Tristan and I walked out of the room.
I could feel people's gazes on me when we entered the big dining hall. I felt very uncomfortable but I tried to ignore them as Tristan and I found seats at the edge of the table.
"Should I say I am honored to be sitting with you?" A boy said, smiling at Tristan and me.
"Excuse me?" I said raising a brow.
"You were the guy the commandant called out of the formation earlier. You must be really close to him," he said still having his smile in place.
"No. I am not close to the commandant and he is not someone I know. He mistook me for someone he used to know, but when he looked at me under better light and up close, he discovered I wasn't the one," I said,, telling him the same thing I told Tristan.
"I see. I am Kyle by the way," the boy introduced himself. Tristan and I shook his hand and introduced ourselves to him.
"I guess you must not have heard about me if you both are comfortable talking to me right now," Kyle said shrugging.
"What do you mean?" Tristan asked.
"Well, my stepbrother is here as well as I, and I am considered the illegitimate child. My stepbrother got here first and made sure everyone knew about his father's bastard, who is also eyeing the seat of the Alpha," Kyle explained.
"I thought only the kids of the Luna come here to train to become an Alpha," Tristan said frowning.
"No. From all indications and from what I deduced before coming here, the son of the Alpha from another female can come here too, but I thought that is if the Luna doesn't have a male child," I explained.
"I am a child of a female the Alpha fell in love with shortly before he met his Luna. I was born two weeks earlier than my stepbrother. Undecided, my father sent us both here for the goddess to decide who becomes Alpha," Kyle explains.
I was about to say something about what Kyle had just said when a hand landed on my shoulder painfully. I gritted my teeth in anger before looking up into a face that had a sneer plastered on it. Without being told I knew he was nothing but a bully.
"What do you want?' I asked, shaking his hand on my shoulder. I stood up to see that he was not alone. Two other boys were standing beside him with stupid grins on their faces.
"Because the commandant chose you to be his pussy doesn't mean that you can talk to people anyhow," the bully growled at me.
"What rubbish are you saying?" Tristan asked standing up from his seat and glaring at the bully.
"It is not news that the commandant likes young boys. That is his sex preference. I guess he likes you. Don't worry, I have ointment to relieve your pain after each experience and some strong pain relief for when it gets too painful," the bully said and his cohorts chuckled before they walked away.
"That is a lie. The commandant might have a tainted reputation, but I have never heard of him sleeping with boys," Kyle said, sneering.
"I heard he killed his mate because she wasn't allowing him to treat people the way he wanted," Tristan whispered.
"I don't know why he killed her, but I heard he did," Kyle said, shrugging.
My hands shook from all they were saying. If the commandant had truly killed his mate, what did that make me? A second chance mate?
I wasn't going to allow him anywhere close to me ever again. Not in this life, not in the next. He thought I was a male and if it were true that he slept with boys, he would only see it as an opportunity to pursue me.
"Was his mate a male or female?" I asked.
"His mate was a female," Tristan whispered. Those that were serving us food were getting closer so he couldn't raise his voice.
"If you like boys, isn't your mate supposed to be male?" I asked.
"I heard that some wolves are actually bisexuals," Kyle said.
"I have never heard of that," Tristan said.
"Neither have I," I said thoughtfully.
"I will educate you both about it later. Let's eat first," Kyle said and we settled down to eat our food in silence.
When we were through with our food, we stood up to leave but my name was called out in the big hall. I wouldn't deny the fact that at that twinkle of an eye, a lot of emotions mingled together in my mind.
I looked towards where my name was called to see that it was one of the trainers. He then went ahead to call other names.
"You all are to pack these plates and make sure they are watched," the trainer said when he was through with the names he was calling.
"We get kitchen duties too? What are the Omegas for?" I heard someone grumble.
"I guess I will see you guys later then," I said to Tristan and Kyle.
"No, we will stay here and wait for you," Tristan insisted.
So the three of us sat back down and waited till everyone had eaten and left. Those that were to take care of the plate were left behind.
While packing the plate, a gentle hand rested on my shoulder and I looked up to see that it was the male that had come with the commandant in the morning.
"Can you step outside with me please?" He asked and I quickly nodded. I didn't want everyone to notice us together. But when I raised my head properly, I could see that all eyes were on us.
I walked with him outside. When we got to where there was no one, he turned to me and smiled.
"My name is Kent, Alpha Delvin's Beta," he said with the most pleasant look I have seen on anyone since I got to camp.
"It is nice to meet you Beta Kent. My name is Tate," I said returning his smile.
"You have a beautiful smile, Tate," he said, and I instantly stopped smiling, which made him chuckle lightly.
"I like you, Tate, and I called you out here to tell you that you can come to me anytime in case you need anything. Alpha Delvin doesn't know that I am here but I think you should be at least friends with one of us," Beta Kent said.
"Thank you." That was all I could say.
"Call me anytime," he said then gave me his card. He patted my shoulder and then walked away.
I stood there and watched him walk away. It wouldn't be bad to be his friend though. His personality was such a sharp contrast to the commandant's. I put the card in my pocket. Who knows, I might someday have a use for it.
