Chapter 1

The first experiment in the world of retrieving memories after death succeeds, and my memories are going to be broadcast live all over the Internet.

My dad has just learned about my death, but he only says in a disgusted tone, "Who would want to see the memories of someone who is selfish, mean, and has nothing commendable at all about them? Today is the wedding day of Zoe and Cameron. Pause the live broadcast and stop being so sickening!"

Zoe is my stepsister, and Cameron is supposed to be my fiance.

After that, my father finds out the truth from the live broadcast of my memories.

He begs for my forgiveness tearfully but…

I'm already dead.

"I'm about to die!"

People can sense when they're on the brink of death.

When Sasha Sullivan and I went to the beach, I knew that my life would end there.

My breast cancer worsened a month ago, and the doctor said that I didn't have much time left.

I wanted to stay far away from my father and the others, so Sasha quit her job and went traveling with me.

Recently, my condition had become worse and worse. Painkillers didn't work, and even makeup could not conceal how haggard I looked. I was in so much pain that I could not even walk. I could only sit in a wheelchair as Sasha pushed me along.

Sasha's eyes reddened, and she said agitatedly, "That's nonsense. You're still young, you can still—"

I shook my head. "Sasha, I can't go on like this. After I die, tell Matthew to be gentle when slicing open my corpse. I'm afraid that it'll hurt."

Matthew Wilson was Sasha's husband, and he had been doing research on retrieving memories from the dead.

However, everyone had secrets that they wanted to keep, and it was uncertain what kind of memories would be retrieved. That was why there hadn't been any suitable body donors yet.

Sasha and Matthew had helped me a lot. When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, I signed a body donation agreement. It was the only way I could help them.

Sasha was so choked up that she was finding it difficult to speak. She couldn't fight her tears.

I wanted to comfort her and tell her not to feel sad for me.

Death was a kind of freedom for people like me.

However, my eyelids were getting heavier. Eventually, everything around me descended into darkness.

I had wondered countless times about whether I would be able to feel anything after death, or if I would enter reincarnation like they did in the shows on television.

However, I had never imagined that after becoming a spirit, I would randomly turn up by my father's side instead of going to the underworld.

He was at a wedding studio with Zoe Yates and Cameron Doyle. They were trying on wedding dresses and suits.

Zoe was my stepsister, and she was the daughter of my father's comrade. My father was fixated on making things up to her because his comrade had died to save him.

When we were younger, my father would always take Zoe's side. It didn't matter which of us was in the right.

After she was diagnosed with severe depression, my father became worse. He actually made me give up my fiance, Cameron, just because Zoe could not stand the fact that Cameron and I were together.

Cameron hadn't been willing to marry Zoe at first, but after she slit her wrists in a suicide attempt, he had compromised.

They were the three people that I wanted to see the least, and I wanted to leave.

However, I could only get 15 feet away from them at most. I could not move an inch further than that.

I couldn't help the fact that Dad and Cameron both favored Zoe, but why was God biased too? Why did I have to endure such disgust when I was dead? Did God favor that vixen too?

I cursed loudly in anger, but there was nothing I could do. I was forced to watch Zoe try on wedding dresses happily while Dad and Cameron complimented her with a smile in their eyes.

My father rarely smiled at me, and he always expected me to be the best in everything. However, he never complimented me, and he would never smile at me like that.

As for Cameron, he had always been good-tempered with me.

However, after seeing how he treated Zoe, I finally realized that I had not been an exception.

I had put in so much effort to be favored, but I had not gotten it even until the day I died. However, Zoe got it so easily.

When Zoe was almost done trying on wedding dresses, my father called Sasha.

"Is Nessa with you? She's 25 years old. How long is she going to keep sulking? Cameron and Zoe are getting married in a week's time. Tell Nessa not to cause any trouble, or else she can forget about calling me her father anymore!"

I felt suffocated.

"I'm already dead, and yet you're still criticizing me. I'm your daughter! Why don't you like me?" I shouted at my father, but he could not hear me.

Chapter 2

I drifted over to Cameron's side. "If you like Zoe, then marry her. Why did you have to date me and then go to her?"

I was standing right in front of him. It was a pity that he could not see me.

He and Dad had both favored Zoe while I was alive. Even when I had become a bag of skin and bones due to weight loss from late-stage breast cancer, they hadn't realized that anything was wrong.

Now that I was dead, they were going to take even less notice of me.

I felt discouraged, so I turned and looked at the wedding dress that Zoe was wearing.

"I put in so much effort to get that wedding dress custom-made, but in the end, you're the one wearing it. Don't you think it's bad luck to wear the clothes of a dead person?"

I would rather tear the wedding dress to pieces than let her wear it!

I tried huffily to tear the wedding dress up.

My hand went right through it, and I realized once again that I was dead.

"I was so spineless when I was alive. I should at least be a vengeful ghost after death so that I can get back at them!"

I sighed heavily.

They had finished trying on the wedding dress and the suit. My dad wanted to go, so my soul drifted off after him.

When my dad got home, he sat on the couch and stared blankly at his phone.

He called me several more times, but unfortunately, no one answered.

He frowned and muttered, "She won't even pick up her phone because she's sulking! All she does is make her elders worry. She's not mature at all, unlike Zoe!"

"I'm already dead. Wouldn't you get a heart attack from fright if I actually did answer?"

I was used to talking back to him, but I felt like I had made a mistake once the words slipped out of my mouth.

"You don't even know that I'm dead."

He would enjoy the silence now that I wasn't around. A couple of years might actually go by without him realizing that I was dead.

My dad would worry if he were out of contact with Zoe even for a couple of minutes.

At that thought, I began feeling pathetic again.

In the following week, I was forced to watch my father dote on Zoe while Cameron and Zoe treated each other lovingly.

It was laughable. I hadn't seen them before I died, but now that I was dead, I couldn't leave.

God really was doing his best to make things sickening for me.

I went up to my father. "You dislike me, don't you? You get angry at the mere sight of me. You want nothing more than to never see me again, right? I hang around every day now. Go and find a priest to get rid of me!"

I would rather disintegrate into nothing than stay with him any longer.

Other fathers would never have been able to bear treating their daughters like that, but he wouldn't have minded since he disliked me so much.

However, I had never experienced the feeling of disintegrating into nothing. I was afraid that it would hurt too much.

I drifted over to Cameron. "Forget it. It would be better if you could find someone to perform death rituals for me. It probably won't hurt too much. I mean, you should just marry Zoe if you like her. Why did you lie to me? It's not like it's the first time that she's stolen a man from me!"

I blabbered on for ages, but neither Cameron nor my father heard a single thing.

All they talked about was Zoe. Had she saved their lives or something?

I was very frustrated, and I cursed at them every day and called them all the names I could think of. I even hung upside down over their heads, hoping that I could materialize someday and scare them. It would be a small way of venting my anger.

However, even that wish was not granted to me.

The day of Cameron and Zoe's wedding came.

Early in the morning that day, social media was filled with reports titled "Professor Wilson succeeds in retrieving memories from the dead". Matthew was due to show everyone his miraculous feat at 10:30 am.

My father and Cameron were unconcerned when they saw the news, as they were busy with the wedding.

Not only was Zoe wearing my wedding dress, but she had even used all my designs for the venue decor. My father and Cameron both knew that I had been the one who had crafted those designs, but they had still agreed.

"Shameless wretch!"

If it weren't for the fact that it was my first time being a ghost and I had no experience at all, I would have tried to stage a resurrection of my corpse!

My father had no idea that I was right beside him. He even gave instructions to the security guards. "If you see Vanessa, you must not let her in here!"

I wanted to scratch him. "I wouldn't have come even if you'd invited me! Do you think I'd want to be here?"

Cameron was speaking to Sasha, who had come to attend the wedding. "I'll explain to Nessa later about my marriage to Zoe. I'm sure she'll understand."

I wanted to hit him. "Understand my foot!"

Sasha was so angry that tears spilled out of her eyes. "You jerks!"

"Don't cry, Sasha! It makes my heart ache!"

I forgot about being angry when I saw her like that. I wanted to wipe her tears away for her, but I had no corporeal form and could not touch her, no matter how hard I tried.

Sasha took out her phone tearfully and held it up in front of Dad and Cameron.

It was the live broadcast of a press conference.

My corpse was on the screen. My eyes were shut tightly, and my corpse was pallid gray.

Sasha had helped me put on my favorite floral-patterned dress.

However, I was just too thin. I was so thin that I looked skeletal. It was terrifying to look at, and there was no beauty in my appearance at all.
