Reborn Daughter: The Family's Blood Bag Is A Legendary Agent Chapter 1

"June Chaney! Get your ungrateful ass down here right now!"

Pain hammered behind her eyes. Her eyes snapped open.

A cramped, unfamiliar bedroom. The air reeked of cheap lavender and stale desperation. Nothing here was hers.

Where am I?

"Do you hear me, you worthless thing?" the voice screeched from downstairs.

She didn't know the voice. Yet her body reacted instantly—shoulders tensing, breath shallowing, cold dread coiling in her gut.

Then the memories hit.

A searing wave crashed through her skull. Two lifetimes colliding.

First came fire and betrayal: her past life as the legendary operative "Aurora," ending in a rain of shrapnel.

Then came the second set. Quieter, but no less violent. They belonged to the body's original owner—the real June. A girl crying in a locked closet. A needle sliding into a vein. Days spent dizzy while a sister twirled before a mirror, glowing with stolen vitality.

June gasped, fingers digging into the mattress.

Aurora was dead. Yet here she was, reborn as a walking blood bag for an adoptive family. The original June's last memory surfaced: collapsing at school yesterday, her body giving out after too many "treatments." The fight Martha was screaming about never happened. She'd been too weak to fight.

The truth crystallized. Martha Sears had plucked June from the system for one reason: her rare blood type matched her biological daughter's. Ariana Sears, the golden child. Frail on paper, radiant in practice. And the original June—after her physical condition met the blood transfusion criteria, was repeatedly drained and erased over nine years until she collapsed.

A cold calm settled over her.

I don't know who you were, June. But I'll make them regret it.

Heavy footsteps pounded up the stairs. The door slammed against the wall.

Ariana Sears swept in, wearing a frilly pink dress that cost more than everything June owned. Her cheeks held the rosy flush of someone who never missed a transfusion. She stopped, her face shifting into a mask of sisterly concern.

"June," Ariana said, dripping false sweetness. "Mom is really mad. You shouldn't have gotten into that fight yesterday. You even hurt yourself." Her eyes flicked to the pale scar on June's wrist. A suppressed smile twitched at her lips. "Just apologize. It'll be easier."

June didn't speak. She just looked at Ariana. Not with the hollow gaze of a beaten girl, but with something far colder.

A flicker of unease crossed Ariana's face. She took a half-step back, then caught herself, pouting. "I'm just trying to help. You embarrassed Mom and Dad. Daddy had to cancel his golf game."

Martha Sears appeared, filling the doorway with her bulk and fury. Veins bulged on her neck.

"You dare sit there?" Martha spat. "After everything we've done for you? Feeding you, clothing you?" She jabbed a finger at June. "If you weren't still useful, I'd have thrown you out years ago. You're nothing without us!"

June rose to her feet.

Slow. Deliberate. Nothing like the flinching scramble Martha expected. June stood eye to eye with her adoptive mother.

Martha's tirade faltered.

"Apologize." June's voice was hoarse, but precise. "For what?"

It wasn't a question. It was a dare.

The room went still. Ariana froze mid-breath.

Martha's shock curdled into rage. Her face flushed blotchy red. "You ungrateful waste of space! You eat our food, live in our house, and dare talk back? Apologize right now, or—"

"Eat your food. Live in your house."

June's voice dropped. Dangerously soft.

"Tell me, Martha. Isn't the real reason you adopted me because my blood type matches Ariana's?"

The words stopped Martha cold.

The color drained from her face. Beside her, Ariana's rosy cheeks went chalk-white.

"Look at that," June noted, her tone flat. "Losing your color already."

Ariana grabbed Martha's arm. "Mom… what is she talking about? I'm perfectly healthy. She's lying—"

"Healthy?" June didn't blink. "You're only healthy because you've been draining me dry."

"You're insane!" Martha shrieked. "We took you in out of the goodness of our hearts!"

June didn't retreat. She advanced.

Martha flinched.

"Cedar Street Clinic. Last month." June's words were clipped. "You told me I had anemia."

She thrust her wrist forward. The pale scar caught the light.

"Four hundred CCs. Bled out of me while I was too weak to fight."

She let the silence stretch.

"And the very next day, your 'frail' little girl won first place at her piano recital." June's gaze locked onto Ariana. "Must be nice. Playing so well with my blood in your veins."

Ariana shrank behind her mother, unable to manufacture a single tear.

Martha's face twisted with raw fury. "Shut your filthy mouth!"

"I'm done talking." June's voice was ice. "From this day forward, find another supply."

She turned her back on them.

Coldly dismissive, she crossed to the closet. She yanked it open, grabbing a sad collection of Ariana's cast-offs, and stuffed them into a shabby backpack with sharp, efficient movements.

Martha gaped. "What do you think you're doing? You dare walk out that door!"

June shouldered the backpack. Passing the petrified Ariana, she paused and leaned in close.

"Get used to being pale," June whispered. "Your good days are over."

A shudder rippled through Ariana. Her face drained to a sickly white no amount of stolen blood could fix.

June descended the stairs with measured calm and pulled open the heavy front door.

The morning sun hit her face. Golden. Warm. Alive.

She stood on the threshold for one long breath.

Behind her, Martha's screams rose to a hysterical pitch—the frantic panic of a woman watching her daughter's lifeline walk away. Ariana's broken sobs joined the chorus.

June didn't stop. Didn't hesitate.

She walked down the cracked driveway, nine years of prison at her back.

The front door slammed shut.

June Chaney didn't look back.
