Chapter 1

Dale Cook, the rising star, quickly became popular with the song "Summer", with single album sales exceeding 100 million in three days.

The lyrics were moving. It said, "My feelings for you are hidden in the umbrella that leans towards you."

It awakened countless people's naive youth love.

However, less than a month after the release of the album, it was said that Dale plagiarized.

The person claimed that he had solid evidence.

Instantly, public opinion was in an uproar, and netizens cursed Dale as shameless.

The album was returned in large quantities, and many brands announced the termination of their contracts with Dale.

However, in the face of questioning and accusations, Dale only posted several words on Twitter.

"I didn't plagiarize. I wrote it for her."

As soon as Dale's album "Summer" was released, snapping up screenshots of the album was hogging all my social media.

It also became the top trending topic on Twitter.

#Dale's "Summer"

#The album of the rising star in the music industry has sold over one million copies

He became utterly popular.

I opened the music app and clicked on the song "Summer" which soared to the top of the list.

The song was very nice.

In the summer of 2015, Dale was playing the guitar in the basement.

Back then, he sang it to me especially. It was as good as it was now.

But shortly after the album was released, within a month, it was accused of plagiarism.

The whistleblower was a partner of Dale's former studio.

He posted the lyrics and melody he wrote for this song.

He also posted a video of him recording the song in the recording studio.

The recording time was a whole year earlier than the release time of the album.

The public opinion was in an uproar immediately, and netizens rushed to the comments section of Dale's Twitter to curse him for being shameless.

His studio received over thirty million album refund requests that evening.

Major brands that had collaborated with Dale started to release termination statements.

Dale was accused of plagiarism before he even had a chance to explain himself.

Everyone was waiting for his response.

Yet Dale only posted several words on Twitter.

"I didn't plagiarize. I wrote it for her."

His words were concise.

There was no self-justification or explanation, and of course, netizens didn't buy it.

I clicked on the comments section of this post, and as I expected, everyone was cursing.

[You say you didn't plagiarize. Where's the evidence? Everyone can type.]

[Now you're pretending to be affectionate? That man has already posted a video. How do you wanna explain?]

[Drop the act, you shameless plagiarist. Give me my money back. I paid for your album.]

Everyone was cursing, and a lot of Dale's loyal fans felt betrayed and joined the other netizens.

It seemed like no one believed Dale. Only I knew he didn't plagiarize.

Because he wrote the song "Summer" for me, Eda Cantrell.

Chapter 2

I walked into the room and pulled out a small box from under the bed.

There were many albums in the box.

His debut album "Diamond" as well as "Summer" were both included.

Under the albums were stacks of concert tickets, all of which were for seat A17 in the inner field.

Under the concert tickets was an iPhone 6.

It was all my memories of my youth, and it was all I had with Dale.

I found the charger and charged the phone, and luckily, it could be turned on.

I clicked on WhatsApp and entered the password, which was my birthday.

After I logged in successfully, an unread message popped up, and the profile picture of the person who sent me the message was a Samoyed dog.

The message was from July 17th, 2015, sent by Dale.

[Eda, goodbye.]

I clicked into the dialogue box, and the message before that was the video of Dale singing "Summer" to me.

The video had expired, but luckily, I saved it in my album.

As long as I posted this video, all netizens would turn to support him.

It was the ironclad evidence that Dale did not plagiarize.

I clicked on that video, and my thoughts went back to the past.

At that time, Dale was not yet a rising star in the music industry, but a spirited young man.

Dale and I had been desk mates since the first year of high school until the third year.

Our personalities were completely opposite, but we attracted each other.

I loved quietness, while he loved liveliness.

He always liked to chat with our classmates during class and show up wherever I was, asking me what I was doing.

He liked to skip evening self-study and play basketball and ask me to help him hide from the head teacher by saying he went to the bathroom.

He liked to secretly bring his phone to the classroom and sing as if he was holding a small concert, and then he'd stand on the podium and sing my favorite song loudly.

I felt like I was imprisoned, while he was free.

There was a line in that song of his.

"My feelings for you are hidden in the umbrella that leans towards you."

It happened before the SAT.

I remembered that it was raining heavily that day, and the corridor outside the classroom was wet.

I didn't bring an umbrella, and Dale said he would walk me home.

On the way home, Dale leaned the small umbrella in my direction totally.

Under the street lamp, I could see clearly that Dale's left side body was completely wet.

Rainwater dripped onto Dale's face along his bangs and into my heart.

Under the street lamp, Dale stopped and looked down at my eyes, asking me.

"Can we still be desk mates in college?

"I seem to have gotten used to it."

I answered him.

"Yes, as long as we get into the same school."

So, I looked forward to the whole summer, looking forward to seeing him on campus.

Chapter 3

"Hello."

"Eda! Have you checked the trending topics?"

Maria Stanley's scream came from the phone.

She was my childhood friend.

She was also the only person who knew everything about me and Dale.

"Yes. They said Dale plagiarized."

"That's not what I'm talking about!

"He's with someone!

"She's already tweeted and mentioned him!

"She thanked him for writing the song for her!

"I thought he wrote it for you!"

Maria kept shouting, while I had already clicked on Twitter.

The top trending topic on Twitter had changed.

#Dale, plagiarism.

It was the original top trending topic.

#Dale, wrote for her.

I clicked on the newest top trending topic.

Everyone was forwarding Ruby Fox's tweet.

She tweeted, [Thank you for the song you wrote for me.]

And what made this tweet go viral was the like from Dale himself.

He saved the trouble for the paparazzi.

Almost everyone was cursing him, but some started shipping the couple.

[I thought Dale had no rumors because he's gay! Turns out he's already with someone!]

[The couple is adorable! Dale, Ruby, if you get married, don't forget to send me an invitation!]

I watched those comments.

"Eda, are you listening?"

Maria's voice came from the phone. She hadn't hung up yet.

"Yes. I saw it. What's up?"

"He wrote it for you.

"How come it's for her?"

"Dale wrote the song. If he says it's for her, then it is."

"Then what does that make you?

"What about all the hardships you've endured with him?"

Maria's two questions left me speechless.

I hung up the phone.

What does that make me?

Guess this is a gesture returning the favor he did for me when tilting the umbrella in the rain in my direction.
