Fionna had two concert tickets hidden in her bag and I thought it was a surprise for me.
I waited excitedly for the day of the concert, only to find out that she was on a business class with the two tickets.
Thanks to my connections, I bought a ticket at a high price and witnessed her with my own eyes kissing with another man passionately in the middle of the concert.
The two people projected onto the big screen kissed with tears in their eyes.
The concert was over and I came across a man's Twitter account who had just uploaded a new post: [Kissing my crush passionately at my idol's concert was the best birthday present I've ever received.]
Scrolling down the comment section, everyone was congratulating and wishing for good things, but then I was hit by her suddenly accelerating car.
When I woke up, Fiona Simpson, who was standing by the bed, was playing with her mobile phone with her head down. The smile on her lips was the gentlest I had ever seen.
I asked her who she was, but she looked up and answered, "I am your boss. Since you're awake, take good care of yourself."
As soon as the words fell, she could not wait to leave.
I withdrew my gaze and dialed the phone at home. "Auntie, the marriage you mentioned last time, you can arrange it now."
***
At first, my aunt, Natalie Pritchard, was taken aback upon hearing these words, but then filled with relief.
"You've finally gotten the hang of it, Arthur? A girlfriend who has wasted your time for five years and refused to make your relationship public never deserves your sincere love for the rest of her life!"
"When are you going back? I just sent a message and they are urging me to set a wedding date."
I had been in love with Fionna for five years and I was the only one who was blind in this love.
She was trying her best to distance herself from me, so she would not hold me back from leaving.
"The sooner the better. I can take care of the resignation procedures as soon as possible."
Fionna, who had left, came back to the ward to find her car keys and happened to hear my conversation. "Resignation? Is anyone in our company resigning?"
The resignation process still required her approval at the end and I did not intent to hide it from her.
However, she was busy looking at her mobile phone and did not notice me nodding.
She picked up the car keys and said casually, "The doctor said you fell on your head and might have amnesia. I thought you really had amnesia."
"I was driving the car. The light was too dim at that time and you were playing with your phone ...."
I was stunned.
It turned out that this was the reason why she did not explain anything and pretended not to be familiar with me even though there was clearly no one in the ward.
Ten minutes ago, the expression on her face when she said she was just my boss was cold and indifferent, with just a little bit of concern.
There was no concern or even guilt.
Before I was hit and fell, I saw with my own eyes the car that hit me and Fionna was sitting in the passenger seat.
And the driver was the one who passionately kissed her.
Not even giving me a chance to question her, she left impatiently, using the excuse that the company was very busy.
I thought she did not know how to face me because she hurt me.
It was ridiculous that they did not take me seriously at all.
"I just woke up and my mind was a bit confused. I didn't recognize you, Ms. Simpson."
She treated me perfunctorily, so I played along with her and pretended as if nothing had happened.
She turned her head and fixed her eyes on my cold expression, feeling a bit puzzled.
'This guy always loves to ask for kisses when no one is around, but why is he acting weird today?'
She looked around and confirmed that no one was around before she soothed me in a gentle voice.
"Arthur, there are a lot of people in the hospital and it would be bad if someone saw you. Just focus on recuperating. When you are discharged and go home, I will make it up to you."
I smiled and replied to her, "Well, thank you, Ms. Simpson"
When we were together in private, I made a point of calling her "Ms. Simpson" in a low voice.
But today, calling her by "Ms. Simpson" sounded so stiff and distant that Fionna could nothelp but frown.
Just as she was about to say something, the doctor came to check on the patient and she returned to her cold demeanor.
Before leaving, she did not forget to remind me.
"Have a good rest and remember not to use your special status to enjoy privileges in my company. Everyone is treated equally and must follow the rules."
The doctor looked at the fake smile on my face and teased me.
"Your boss has already left, so there's no need to force a smile on yourself anymore. She is tough-tongued but soft-hearted. She has already paid for your medical expenses."
The fake smile on my face turned into a wry smile.
Fionna acted so well.
So, apart from a few of her friends, no one knew that we were in a relationship and had been dating for five years.
I had asked her countless times when we would make our relationship public, but she had always used the excuse that the time had not yet come.
So long, to the point that I did not even know what we were?
Today, she gave me the answer.
Misunderstanding my amnesia and blurting out "I am your boss" was her true thoughts.
The injuries from the car accident were not serious. After staying under observation for three days, the doctor discharged me from the hospital.
Since I used medical insurance, the excess amount from the settlement was returned to Fionna's original account.
She had not shown up or contacted me for three days, so she called me.
"You're being discharged so soon? You didn't even tell me in advance. I have to meet a client today and I don't have time to pick you up."
"Um."
I suppressed the almost blurted out question.
Her location, was traced to be in a hotel.
What was she busy with? It was self-evident.
A male voice sounded. "Fionna, help me take the towel!"
She immediately hung up the phone.
It did not take long for me to notice that she had posted a picture of the ten fingers clasped together on her social media and even tagged me.
That was my hand and hers.
But she did not show my face.
It was a photo that I had wanted to share on my social media countless times over the past five years, but she always rejected it.
I used a secondary account to check on her post and as expected, her post was set to be visible only to me.
Now that I had decided to let go, she was willing to use this method to appease me.
Unfortunately, I did not need it anymore.
She asked me why I had not liked the post yet and looking at her new WhatsApp profile picture, I asked her to delete the status.
Her profile picture could be seen as a romantic one at a glance.
But not with me.
Fionna sent me a few question remarks, but I did not reply.
When I got home, the house was still the same as it was before I left.
It seemed that she had not been back since the concert that night.
I restrained my thoughts and started packing my luggage.
However, in just half a day, the home that had been carefully decorated for five years became much emptier.
Most of them were couple items I bought, but because she was used to having secret relationships, she did not like to wear anything that could show she had a partner.
I also laughed at her for being as cautious as playing Infernal Affairs.
It turned out that in her heart, I had never been her type.
In the middle of packing my luggage, Fionna unexpectedly came back.
"Arthur, what do you mean? I asked you to have dinner, but you didn't answer my phone or reply my text!"
Smelling the faint smell of cigarettes on her body, I quickly reached out to stop her from approaching.
I glanced at the suspicious kiss mark on her neck and said calmly, "I was busy and didn't check my phone."
She glanced around the house irritatingly.
"Don't tell me you're busy tearing the house apart. Don't you know how to take a break after just being discharged from the hospital?"
She pointed to a bag of brand-new items on the floor that she had not had time to throw away.
"Are all of these unnecessary?"
I bent down to pick up the bag and she took it over voluntarily.
"Alright, I'll go throw it away. Please don't buy random things anymore. Are you going to waste your money?"
"Hurry up and change your clothes. I'll take you out for dinner."
I thought it was a good time to talk to her before leaving, so I nodded. "Okay."
From the balcony, I saw that she had thrown those couple items into the trash can without any hesitation.
As worthless as my five-year relationship with her.
We came to the restaurant together and she ordered several dishes that we often eat, but she also ordered the bitter dandelion green with garlic I hate the most.
I lost my appetite in an instant and I no longer felt wronged.
"Waiter, please take this dish away and keep it on the order receipt as is."
But Fionna moved the dish in front of her.
"I just didn't accompany you in the hospital, why are you so pretentious? If you had paid attention to where you were walking, you wouldn't have been crashed and rushed to the hospital."
Having seen how she cared about me, it was obvious that she did not love me.
The person who used to worry about me when I had a high fever and cried in the middle of the night on the way to the hospital, now did not even worry about me and left me when I was hospitalized.
The person who knew I hated bitter dandelion green and never bought me anything bitter suddenly ordered bitter dandelion green, just like when we first met five years ago.
I tugged at the corner of my mouth and said lightly, "I hate eating dandellion green. It tastes bad."
"Then why don't you just not eat this dish?"
Her impatience was obvious, but I kept smiling.
"Let's split ...."
Before she could finish her words, a man appeared at the dining table.
"Fionna, after so many years, do you still remember that I love dandellion green?"
I calmly raised my eyes and looked at the man who looked down on me with disdain.
She naturally moved a seat closer and the man sat next to her opposite me.
"Let me introduce myself. I'm Fionna's boyfriend, Jeremiah Nolan."
I did not give him any response.
He then took her hand and began to play with it.
"Fionna, why don't you introduce him? He's ...."
Fionna's face did not look very good.
It seemed that the man's sudden appearance caught her off guard.
Her evasive gaze made me laugh.
"I'm an employee of Ms. Simpson's company. There happened to be no seats in the store, so I shared a table."
Fionna looked at me with a shock flashed in her eyes and then she breathed a sigh of relief.
"Ah, yes, this is one of my employees, Arthur Pritchard."
Jeremiah laughed heartily upon hearing these words.
"Arthur, you must have exceptional abilities. This is the first time I've seen her eat at the same table with a man other than me."
After that, he put the phone aside and pushed it forward casually.
The provocative implication was extraordinarily thick.
I caught a glimpse of his WhatsApp profile picture and confirmed that he was in relationship with Fionna who was still my girlfriend. Cih!
Even the clothes they were wearing today were in the same color, just like high-end couple outfits.
Now the two of them were sitting together, with the soft light shining on them and they looked an especially good match.
I put down my spoon and forks and left.
Jeremiah gripped my hand until his nails were almost digging into my flesh where Fionna could not see it.
"Arthur, you left as soon as I arrived. Did I say something wrong? Isn't it enough for me to apologize to you?"
Encountering the red flag guy, I did not have the patience to play along with him, so I just pulled my hand out forcefully.
For no apparent reason, his hand slapped the little girl who was playing nearby.
