The footsteps and voices in the corridor were getting closer and closer, pulling me back to reality. It was Monica and the two roommates.
"Monica, the steak is so delicious. Thank you for your hospitality today." It was my roommate, Kate.
“I don't understand Daisy. She usually studies so hard, but she is absent from such an important math exam. This year's scholarship is no longer available for her. Monica, you, who have been ranked second, are finally going to win first place. Congratulations in advance."
"Not at all. You flatter me," Monica responded sweetly. She couldn't hold back her laughter.
It turned out that Monica had invited my roommates to celebrate her victory in advance.
When the door opened, the three of them were stunned to see me. Suddenly, they all felt awkward.
Kate broke the silence first and asked, "Well... Daisy, where did you go today? Why didn't you come to take the exam?"
Before I could reply, Monica's WhatsApp notification rang.
Glancing at it, she couldn't help but smile. She pressed the play button, and Spencer's voice rang out.
"Monica, are you with Daisy? She seems to be angry. Tell her that we will have lunch together at noon tomorrow and talk things out."
Monica looked at me with a faint smile, saying, "Did you hear that? My boyfriend invited you to lunch at noon tomorrow."
Her words hurt me. The sharp pain made me tremble all over.
"I'm not going." I bit my lower lip and firmly refused.
She raised her head arrogantly and squinted at me, saying, "If you don't go, how can we make things clear?"
"Last night, you stayed in my boyfriend's house. You two were together for one night. Don't you need to explain it to me?"
"Do you like Spencer? Otherwise, why did you keep silent when he asked you for my contact information?"
"Say it!"
Her words were shocking. Everyone at the dormitory was silent.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kate elbowing Jodie. They returned to their seats silently with their backs to us, avoiding the awkward confrontation.
I felt as if all the blood in my body had been sucked dry. I felt dizzy, and a cold sweat broke out on my forehead.
Before this, they had never announced that they were in love.
Only a week had passed by since their first encounter. I thought they were flirting with each other, so when Spencer invited me to his house to celebrate his birthday with him, I was happy. On the spur of the moment, I asked, "Will Monica be there too?"
"If she doesn't come, we'll celebrate without her," said Spencer.
"Okay." I agreed without hesitation. I was glad that he had me on his mind.
I wanted to take this opportunity to confess my feelings to him. Then he should choose between Monica and me.
On his birthday, I carefully dressed up and went to his house. He made a sumptuous meal for me and kept persuading me to drink.
Before I could confess, I felt dizzy. I wanted to go to bed.
He arranged for me to rest in the guest room. I slept soundly. After all, I had never been on guard against him.
The next day, he went out and locked the door from outside before I woke up.
Seeing that I didn't speak for a long time, Monica was no longer patient.
She glared at me fiercely, turned around, and sat back in her seat. Then she began to remove her makeup in front of the mirror, muttering, "In the name of friendship, you my boyfriend. You are so cheap."
Tears welled up in my eyes. My lips trembled, but I couldn't retort. Tears blurred my vision.
I didn't want Monica to see me in such a sorry state, so I rushed out of the door.
She said coquettishly from behind, "Baby, I tried to persuade her, but she said no!"
Tears gushed out of my eyes. I was utterly defeated.
I had to admit that she was right.
I was both stupid and cheap.
I walked aimlessly on the sports ground. As the cold wind blew, I gradually became rational.
Monica knew that I was at Spencer's house last night, so they must have exchanged information. Then they set a trap to trick me who was brainless.
As a profiteer, Monica wanted to ruin me and trample on my self-esteem, which confused me. I couldn't help but feel a burst of strong hatred.
While I was thinking, a basketball flew toward me. I leaned slightly to one side. It brushed past my forehead and flew out.
"Are you all right?" A figure ran to me. Looking closer, it was Andy Hawk, the monitor of Class Two. He was in the same major as me.
"I'm fine." I subconsciously touched my forehead, only to touch the sticky blood.
Andy picked up my head anxiously and looked around.
"It's okay. It's just a scratch. Wait for me here." He trotted to a nearby snack shop and brought back water and band-aids.
I sat on the stone bench and looked up. He gently brushed away my hair before cleaning my wound.
"Daisy, what's wrong?" I looked up and saw Spencer coming. He was frowning at me.
My heart began to beat wildly. The last person I wanted to see at this time was Spencer.
As soon as Andy put on a band-aid for me, he was stunned on the spot before turning to look at Spencer.
Taking advantage of the situation, I grabbed Andy's arm, stood up, and quickly hid behind him.
"I went out to play basketball with my boyfriend and accidentally got my head hit," I replied.
"Boyfriend? When did you get a boyfriend?" Spencer's face turned pale, and his body shook slightly.
Seeing him like this, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pleasure. I thought, "You can date Monica. I can give up on you."
Andy glanced at me slyly. I tugged at his sleeve gently, hinting for him to help me out.
He blinked at me and said, "It's our first date today. Who are you?"
"I'm Daisy's childhood friend. We've known each other for 15 years," Spencer replied, stressing the words of 15 years.
