Chapter 2

The moment she saw Jeff, the panic on her face turned into surprise and she handed the gift in her hand to Jeff.

“It’s almost twelve o’clock. I want to give you the gift before twelve o’clock.”

Just then, the teasing voices of those friends rang again.

“Oh, this is Miss Serena, right? Seeing is believing. She is such a cute little white rabbit.”

Jeff’s face darkened instantly and he grabbed the wine glass on the table and threw it over.

“Put away your tricks. If you dare to scare her, I’ll kill you!”

Jeff’s reaction was too big and the chill emanating from his body was even more frightening and the whole private room instantly became quiet.

Seeing his reaction, I was a little dazed.

His friend just made a few jokes and he was so furious, fearing that Serena would suffer the slightest grievance.

And what his friend said to me just now was even more excessive, even though I was already unhappy, he just laughed and scolded a few words without any pain.

I lowered my head and smiled self-deprecatingly.

The air pressure in the private room was extremely low. I picked up two wine glasses, stood up, walked to Serena and handed one of the wine glasses to her.

“Miss Serena, nice to meet you. My name is Tyne.”

As soon as I finished speaking, Jeff took the wine glass from my hand and drank it all in one gulp.

“She is a girl. She is not good at drinking. I will help her drink.”

I had been with Jeff for three years and I had helped him drink most of the wine in such occasions.

And now, before Serena refused, he had already protected her and helped her drink.

It was not good for girls to drink?

What about me? Was I a man?

I was about to speak, but the necklace around Serena’s neck caught my attention.

The pendant of the necklace was a bullet head that was a little old and faded.

Sensing my gaze, Serena’s hand tightly grasped the necklace and the voice was a little nervous when she spoke.

“What’s wrong, Tyne?”

Before I answered, Jeff spoke first.

“The last time we met, Serena said that this necklace was a little special, so I gave it to her on my own initiative.”

I looked at Jeff and there was a flash of discomfort on his face.

How could I not understand him after three years of companionship?

He was so anxious to explain because he was afraid that I would question Serena.

But he didn’t understand me. I, Tyne, was never a woman who would pester others.

“Now that your female companion is here, I’m going home first. Jeff, happy birthday.”

After saying this, I left the room without looking at the expressions of the crowd.

As soon as I got home, my phone rang.

I opened it and saw that there was a short video with me.

In the video, Serena was sitting in the middle of a pile of gifts, with a bunch of red roses beside her and a birthday hat on her head.

The text of this video was: [People who love you will spoil you like a child. This is the first time I know that people who don’t have birthdays can also receive many gifts.]

Soon, the video display disappeared and the next second, a message came: [Sorry, Tyne, I tagged the wrong person, sorry.]

I smiled and put down the phone without replying to the message.

Serena’s tricks were nothing in my eyes.

I packed my things with peace of mind, but tears fell as I packed.

I didn’t have much stuff, except for the clothes I usually wore, there was almost nothing else.

As I packed, I realized that Jeff had never given me a gift in the past three years.

Chapter 3

When we were in love, I also nestled in his arms like a little girl, playing with his fingers and speaking coquettishly.

“Why don’t you give me flowers or gifts? I see other boyfriends will give me flowers or gifts.”

At this time, Jeff would always pinch my nose in a doting way.

“My Tyne is different from those vulgar girls. How could she like the things that those little women like?”

I recalled the video I just saw in my mind again. The girl was sitting in the middle of the gifts that were almost piled up like a mountain.

At that moment, I suddenly realized that it was not that I was different from him, but that he was just unwilling to spend time on me.

The gifts that others couldn’t even pile up were the surprises that I had begged for for three years but never received.

How could I not feel heartbroken? The three years with Jeff were three real years.

I really believed that he would give me a home.

“Why are you suddenly packing up? Where are you going?”

The familiar voice came into my ears and I paused.

“Nowhere, the closet is too messy, so I clean it up.”

Hearing my answer, Jeff had some doubts on his face, but perhaps because he thought that I didn’t know anyone except him, he still believed my words.

He sighed and reached out to hug me. “Don’t get me wrong. I just treat her as a sister, but I’m going to marry you. That necklace, she said it’s special. I’ll let her wear it for two days. If you’re unhappy, I’ll go and get it back tomorrow. Don’t be unhappy, okay?”

The last “okay” sounded up, the voice was tender, with some coquettish meaning. After three years together, he knew how to make me soft-hearted. Every time I was a little unhappy, as long as he said the last sentence, I would always be soft-hearted and immediately coaxed by him.

But this time, smelling the faint scent of gardenia on his suit jacket, I just felt a sharp soreness on the tip of my nose. Before I could answer, Jeff’s phone rang.

“What’s wrong? The taxi driver has been following you? Don’t be afraid. I’ll be here soon. Go to a crowded place first. Turn up the volume so that he can hear my voice…”

He was anxious and he opened the door and left the house without even looking at me.

The whole house was silent again, as if he had never come back.

I smiled and reached out to wipe away the tears in my eyes.

The necklace that fluttered in his mouth was a bullet that almost shot into my heart.

As a top mercenary, our organization often accepted various shady tasks on the dark web.

And the reason I met Jeff was because he was the employer of that order.

During that time, he was hunted by his enemies and I was his bodyguard, with a protection period of three months.

In those three months, I saved him from danger countless times and on the day when the three months were up, the killer and I hired by the other party fired a bullet at the same time.

The opponent died on the spot and the bullet that shot at me was only half an inch away from my heart. I was lucky to survive.

When I woke up from the hospital bed, Jeff was lying beside me with red eyes, like a frightened rabbit.

“What are you crying for? Our cooperation period has expired and the mercenary is dead. No one can hurt you in the future. Don’t be afraid.”

I really thought he was crying because he was afraid. After all, he was different from me, who dealt with corpses all year round.

Chapter 4

For someone like Jeff who had been pampered since childhood, it was normal for him to be afraid when he went through such a life-and-death situation.

But he shook his head, put his forehead on the back of my hand and spoke word by word with sobs.

“This world is too dangerous. I want to give you a home. Tyne, I feel sorry for you. Stay, stay with me, okay?”

I didn’t know if it was because Jeff’s red eyes were too sincere at the time, or if the words he said were too touching.

When he asked this question, I nodded for some reason.

From that day on, I tried my best to leave the organization, hiding my identity and stopped by Jeff, fantasizing about having a home with him.

And the bullet was made into a necklace by Jeff and he always carried it with him.

“This bullet will tell me at every moment that Tyne is the love of my life.”

But now, he clearly knew the meaning of the bullet, but still gave it to someone else.

Then it was time for me to leave.

Jeff finally went home at noon the next day.

There was a business cocktail party this afternoon and he came back to pick me up.

I looked at the clock on the wall and it was still a few hours before the boss sent a car to pick me up.

I didn’t want to arouse Jeff’s suspicion and cause unnecessary trouble later.

I nodded, changed into a dress and accompanied him out.

I followed Jeff, holding his arm and drank decently at the banquet.

At this moment, a man with a fat belly and few hairs on his head suddenly tripped and the red wine glass in his hand fell directly on me.

The dripping red wine slid down my collarbone and the old man’s eyes were fixed.

“Mr. Hurlbutt, your female companion is really good.”

Jeff smiled and took another glass of red wine from the table and handed it to the old man.

“Mr. Edwin, you are joking. When you go out, you can’t bring a woman who is too embarrassing. Since Mr. Edwin thinks she is not bad, I just ordered a table of good dishes tonight. Let’s go together and have a good chat about the development of the resort.”

Hearing Jeff’s words, the old man’s eyes lit up and his sticky eyes like a venomous snake apricot kept wandering over me.

In the past, I was often taken to such occasions by Jeff.

Now that I thought about it, in his eyes, I might be a good bodyguard, a tool to block the wine, or even a bargaining chip in a business transaction.

But not a fiancée.

I lowered my eyes to hide the disappointment in my eyes, smiled and spoke to the two men in front of me.

“I look a little too rude now. I’ll go to the lounge to deal with it. Wait a minute.”

When the waiter washed my clothes and sent them back, an hour had passed.

I changed my clothes and prepared to go back to the banquet hall. When I passed one of the lounges, the door was ajar and a dirty sound came into my ears.

The woman panted and spoke in a voice full of tenderness.

“You say you love me, but why don’t you want to bring me to this kind of occasion? Am I so ashamed?”

The man’s voice was low and full of lust.

“Men in this kind of occasion are beasts. You are so clean. How can I bear to let you come to this kind of place? I wish I could put you at the top of my heart. How can I bear you to get hurt a little bit?”

The woman smiled coquettishly and spoke half-heartedly.

“Don’t be so excited. Didn’t you say she was changing clothes in the lounge? Maybe she’s next door.”

The man’s movements were unrestrained and he seemed very satisfied with the woman’s reaction.

“I really love you. Your contrast really surprises me again and again. Don’t worry, the sound insulation of this high-end lounge is very good. I closed the door specifically. She won’t hear it.”

The moment Jeff finished speaking, Serena under him turned her eyes and met my eyes in the air.

At this moment, what else did I not understand?

Whether she appeared here or let me see this good show, it was all intentional by Serena.

I raised the corners of my lips, retracted my gaze and helped them close the door of the lounge.

As soon as I went downstairs, my phone rang.

“Tyne, where are you? I’m here to pick you up now. The plan has changed. We have to leave immediately.”

After telling the boss the address, I tied my loose hair into a ponytail and walked straight out of the hotel without returning to the banquet hall.

Since the plan had changed, it was all God’s will.

Jeff, goodbye.

We will never meet again!
