Chapter 6

Elena’s POV

“He is just bluffing. He can’t find me.”

I took my phone from Lucien’s hand and turned off my location, blocking him with a long hiss.

“You need to rest, Elena. A lot is going on right now and I don't want you to feel overwhelmed.”

He stretched out his hand to take the phone and I handed it to him, exhaling and shutting my eyes.

“Yeah, you are right. “

I moved my ankles, letting my shoes fall to the floor and slumping my back on the bed, heaving a long sigh from exhaustion.

“I will give you some space to rest now, we would talk better in the morning."

He turned around to leave but I was already lost in my thoughts.

“This is my first time sleeping without saying a goodnight to Ethan.”

Lucien halted and faced me, sitting on a chair opposite me and massaging my knees.

“You are gone passed all of that. This is your new home now.”

He murmured to me, his eyes filled with innocence.

“Ethan is my-“

I paused and held my breathe.

Maybe telling him the truth was not so ideal right now.

“Your what?”

“Step son. Adrian’s child.”

My body cringed when I said that. A lump pulled down my throat and a pool of tears clouded the sides of my eyes .

I just denied my own son.

“Adrian is your past now, you have to learn to forget everything that happened and everything connected to him too.”

I smirked at him, letting out a light giggle.

“Does that mean that I should forget about you too?”

“Let me guess-because I am his brother?”

“Yeah.”

“Nah,nothing would ever transpire between us.”

He said with pale cold ice, his hand turning into a fist and bulging veins popping up on the side of his forehead.

I stared at him, with nothing to say, and I avoided eye contact so that I would not trigger him.

“We would talk better when the day breaks.”

Those were his last words before leaving my room, and shutting the door behind him.

I turned around on the bed, unable to sleep and the sight of my husband on top of my best friend gave me nightmares.

“Where did it all go wrong?”

I asked myself, rubbing my chin and biting the inner part of my lips so the tears wouldn't come rushing down.

*****************************

The second knock on the door brought me fully into reality.

I got up slowly from the bed, the rays of sunshine hitting my eyes, making me uncomfortable.

“Who is it?”

I said in a low yet audible voice, getting up and heading for the door.

I opened the door and I met a young looking girl who was probably in her middle twenties standing outside with a bowl in her hands.

She was putting on the same uniform that every employee was wearing when I walked in.

“Good morning ma. I am sorry to bother you this early but I am the cleaner and I was ordered to help you clean your room and arrange your suitcase.”

Tsk. Suitcase? I barely came with the documents I worked all my life for.

“Oh, thank you for your services but there is not much to clean up in my room. I would call you if I need anything.”

I smiled at her, my face feeling pale from sleeping in a bad position.

“Okay ma’am. Thank you “.

She politely walked away and I got back into my room, freshened up and took the same elevator from yesterday downstairs.

The door opened up and I saw the familiar long hands stretching towards me, and his masculine face with a large smile plastered on it.

“Here comes my beautiful morning wife.”

He walked up to me and hugged me from my waist, pulling me into the warmest embrace.

I stayed through the hug a bit longer. There was a warm feeling that was flowing through my body and that was exactly what I needed in this time of confusion and chaos.

I pulled the sies of his shirt, inhaling his perfume and using the edge of his collar to swipe on my nose.

“You smell like strawberries, my favourite fruit.”

“Oh really? That is good to know.”

“Yeah.”

“Hope you slept well?”

He patted my hair from behind, massaging the strands.

“It was a rough night but…”

He shut me up before I could finish my statement.

“What do you want for breakfast? I made egg and French toast.”

I figured that he did not want to linger on the conversation about Adrian anymore.

“Hmm, you cooked?”

I raised an eyebrow and him, shootimg him a crooked smile.

“Anything wrong with that?’

He held my palms, leading the way to the kitchen.

“Nope. It is just that you have a lot of people working for you. I thought that maybe you would hire a chef too.”

I said nervously, while trying to catch up with how fast he was walking.

*I have a chef but I cook most of the days. Cooking is my hobby.”

“How fascinating.”

“There is nothing special about it ‘

He shrugged, putting the bowl of food in the microwave.

“I have never seen a billionaire who cooks.”

Especially not the sorry of an excuse that cheated on me. I literally did most of the cooking in the house.

“I am changing the notion.”

We continued in long conversations, talking about his company and my phone started buzzing in my pocket.

“ETHAN’S VICE PRINCIPAL.”

“I'm sorry, I have to take this.”

I moved out to where he would no longer hear me and I answered the phone.

“Hello, am I speaking with Ethan’s mother?”

I immediately caught a fever when I heard the voice on the phone. She was already sounding like something was wrong and my panic attack was kicking in fast.

“Yes ma’am. Is there any problem?”

“The school is calling to report that Ethan did not come to school today.”
