It was as if the child in my belly was not his. He only thought about Kelly Moore and got my blood. He even scolded me, "I know you can't accept the pain of losing your husband, but please look carefully, I am Leister Bennet! As long as you are willing to donor your blood to save Kelly, your child can call me daddy when he is born!"
He ignored my pale face and clamped me tightly. He then asked the nurse to draw my blood quickly.
All my struggles were useless. Since he saved my life, I just regarded this as the last time to repay the Bennet Family. I suppressed my panic and let the bright red blood flow into the blood bag.
After drawing blood, he didn't even say thank you and ran away with the blood bag.
Facing his anxious back, I gently said, "Victor, we are even!"
A dizziness came over me and I fainted on the bed completely. When I woke up again, my colleague, Isla Hill, was giving me nutrient water while blaming me.
"When will your healthy head be working out? That scumbag, Victor, is dead. Why do you still care about his Bennet Family? Your husband was just buried yesterday and his elder brother and his wife were in the emergency room. If you don't know, you would think they got married last night!"
I couldn't help but sneer. For Victor, last night was just a wedding, wasn't it?
He finally outlasted his elder brother and got rid of me, a dog-skin plaster. It would be strange if he wasn't excited to be able to get what he wanted and become Kelly's husband.
Seeing me laughing, Isla thought I was going to speak for Victor again and immediately pinched my lips. "No more speaking, or I will scold you for the entire day. In matter of fact, Victor is dead. Maybe this is the retribution for his philandering!"
"In my opinion, there is no good man in the Bennet Family. It's outrageous that his brother and his wife almost killed someone on the day of their brother's funeral. Why do they want to draw your blood? Isn't your life still a life? Even if Victor saved your life, you have been working like a cow and a horse for him all these years. You have already paid it back. Now he’s dead and so was your child. You can get a fresh start!"
I smiled and listened to Isla defending me. I hoarsely said, "Don't worry, from today on, I will only live for myself."
Hearing that I gave in, Isla was shocked. She touched my forehead to confirm that I was not talking nonsense. She then hugged me and coaxed, "Alecia, finally you got it!"
More than getting it, I wanted to leave forever.
After Isla left, I made a phone call, "Hey, do you still mean what you said last time about marrying me?"
The phone was silent for a moment and then it was ecstatic, "Yes, absolutely. I always mean it. You know I always wanted to marry you. I will come back to pick you up."
Adam Goyle was isolated from the news in Africa and he might not know that I had become a widow. However, his words were enough.
"You don't have to come back, just wait for me for half a month. I need to take care of everything here, then I come to Africa to work as a doctor without borders with you."
After the words fell, Victor unexpectedly pushed the door open with chicken soup. In the meantime, I didn't want to worry Adam, so I hung up the phone quickly.
"How can you go to Africa when you are pregnant?"
It turned out that he didn't hear me say that I had a miscarriage yesterday.
"I’m afraid that you heard me wrong, brother."
The new name made Victor pause and put down the chicken soup.
"Well, thank you for what happened this morning. This is the chicken soup that mom made for you and Kelly. Enjoy it while it's hot," he coldly said and immediately put down the chicken soup and left, as if he was afraid that I would discover his secret.
In the next few days, Victor never showed up again and I happened to have a work handover with my colleagues.
On the contrary, my mother-in-law would take time to come and talk to me. My mother-in-law was still immersed in the joy of holding her grandson and I was too lazy to tell her the truth.
She knew that Victor loved Kelly, so she shouldn't have used his life-saving grace to make me marry him.
After being discharged from the hospital, I went home and started packing my luggage. Victor didn't love me. There was nothing he gave me in the whole house.
The objects in the house were basically bought by me with careful selection. Those ornaments with good meanings and various couple items are no longer necessary.
I called the waitress at the scrap yard and asked her to clean up and pack all the things up. I asked her to take them away in a car.
The waitress looked at the almost new things and felt sorry, "Madam, are you really willing to throw them away?"
"My husband is dead and I will not use these things anymore."
The waitress patted my shoulder to comfort me and gave me a big red envelope before leaving. However, in just half a day, the home I thought would be my last hope was empty.
When Victor brought Kelly in, they looked at the empty house and were stunned, "Why is it empty?"
"My husband is dead. I don’t think I need to keep such garbage." I didn't know which words I said to offend Victor.
The man scolded me with a cold face, "You know that my brother is just dead and you can't wait to throw away his things. Is this what you call love for him?"
I couldn't help but be stunned. Was he blaming me for throwing things away? I didn't even want him anymore. In fact, I killed our child, so why couldn’t I throw these annoying things? I didn't burn down the house, that was still good enough!
Kelly shook Victor's arm affectionately and said coquettishly, "Leister, why are you so mean to your sister-in-law? Remember, she's pregnant."
Her coquettish tone immediately dispelled the gloom on Victor's face. He hugged her waist and scratched her nose lovingly, with a gentleness in his eyes that I had never seen before.
After the two of them were all greasy in front of me, Kelly asked him to get down to business.
Victor then said to me, "You should be thankful to Kelly. Because of her, we will still accept to host you tonight."
I was not interested in seeing them show their affection in front of me, so I coldly refused it. However, Kelly insisted on taking me to eat delicious food to relax me.
When we got to the restaurant, Victor ordered a table full of dishes that Kelly liked, as if he was counting all the dishes. Yet, there was not a single dish that I liked.
It was not Victor's fault. He had hated me since my mother-in-law forced him to marry me. When he saved me, his few kindnesses turned into hatred.
The meal was tasteless and I left first on the pretext that I had something to do. Unexpectedly, the traffic police came to me late at night.
"Are you Miss Alecia Whitson? You are suspected of hit-and-run. Please come with us."
When I was taken away, I was confused. However, my argument was not convincing at all. It was because I was tossing and turning after I got home, so I opened a bottle of red wine.
The traffic police became more and more convinced that I had hit-and-run after driving under the influence. When I arrived at the police station, I met Victor and Kelly there and I felt something was wrong.
Victor stared at the blush on my face and pointed at me righteously, "Comrade police, it was my sister-in-law who hit someone. We advised her not to run, but she refused to listen!"
Even though I was dizzy, I could tell from Kelly's tightly twisted hands that I was being used as a scapegoat by Victor.
I slapped his hand in front of me and asked him, "Which eye did you see me hit someone? It was Kelly who was driving without a license!"
I told the truth and Victor's eyes were full of anger. However, he kept silent, patting his chest and telling the police that my husband had just died. He said that I was emotionally unstable and it was normal to hit someone and flee after driving under the influence.
The family member next to me also pointed at my face and said that it was me who hit his wife. In addition, I was tested to be drunk, so everything seemed extremely reasonable.
No matter how I explained, it was useless. I was detained. Victor scolded me bitterly and said he would negotiate with my family on my behalf and left quickly with the frightened Kelly.
On the fifth day in prison, I suffered an unexpected disaster due to a dispute between my cellmates. The broken toothbrush stabbed into my abdomen and blood flowed all over the floor.
When I was sent to the hospital, I was already in shock. In a daze, I seemed to hear Victor yelling at the doctor, "No matter what method you use, you must save her and her child!"
In the endless darkness, I laughed at myself. How could Victor care about my life or death? He and Kelly would have their own children, so why would he care about my child?
Then there was a slap, as if my mother-in-law was scolding him. When I woke up again, Victor's eyes were red, staring at my lower abdomen. I couldn't help but feel cold all over.
When he saw me wake up, he suddenly approached me and coldly asked, "Alecia, you keep saying that you love me, but why didn't you protect my posthumous child?"
Before I could answer, Kelly's lunch box fell to the ground at the door of the ward. "Leister, what are you and your sister-in-law doing?"
From her perspective, Victor was lying on me. Without me pushing him, he quickly moved away from me and quickly explained to Kelly, "Baby, I just covered her with a quilt, don't get me wrong."
Kelly didn't believe it and ran away crying. Victor chased after her without saying a word and coaxed her. He never came back.
Three days had passed since my ten-day appointment with Adam. I quickly found my mobile phone and it was full of his calls and messages. In order to prevent him from worrying, I had to let him wait for a few more days. Because of the injury, my mother-in-law took money to settle it for me. She paid the victim of a traffic accident.
On the day of discharge, she coaxed me with red eyes, "Alecia, your child is gone. It’s nothing as long as you’re okay."
She took me home and put on the amulet she got from the temple. She also made a table full of my favourite meals to celebrate my discharge.
Before she left, she forced me to drink her hot milk. Not long after, I felt something was wrong with my whole body. The abnormal heat made me unbelievable. I didn't understand why my mother-in-law drugged me?
Until Victor came to my house in the middle of the night and got into my quilt. I endured the discomfort all over my body and picked up the lamp on the bedside table. I then smashed it on his head and dragged him out of the room while he was unconscious.
Unexpectedly, it fell into the eyes of Kelly who was looking for him. She was so angry when she saw me dragging Victor, who was only in his underwear.
The woman slapped me in the face and shouted "Alecia, why did you knock my husband unconscious in the middle of the night and dragged him to your house?"
I was worried that no one would take over, so I spread my hands and told her coldly, "Keep your man under control. If I find him climbing into my bed again, I will destroy him!"
I just wanted to tell her that neither Victor nor Leister were good people.
Kelly rushed up, grabbed my hair and slammed my head against the wall.
I had just been discharged from the hospital and I had exhausted all my strength from dragging Victor. After all, I was powerless to resist.
Instead, Victor slowly woke up. He looked at Kelly who was hitting me like a shrew and just watched coldly, "Alecia, you really disappoint me! You can't treat me as Victor's seed just because you lost your child. Are you worthy of him?"
I was so dizzy that I couldn't say a word. When he was unconscious, I saw the purpose of his climbing on my bed from his phone, which he hadn't turned off yet. It was obvious that he followed the instructions of his mother-in-law and came to seed me so that I could stay in the Bennet Family forever.
Then, it turned out that I was coveting him. When Kelly had vented enough, my head was already covered with blood. Victor looked at my embarrassed appearance and couldn't bear it. He wanted to call an ambulance for me, but Kelly twisted his ears and took him away.
"I wonder why she always misses you. It turns out that you are the one who gives warmth to others no matter what. Don't you know that her husband just died. It's easy to miss her when you look at her face? And you have to get close to her!"
Victor let Kelly beat and scold him with a gentle look, begging for mercy one sentence after another. It turned out that Victor, who was so high and mighty in front of me, could be so humble in front of the person he loved.
I retracted my gaze, treated my wounds simply and went straight to the airport. I couldn't stay in this place for a quarter of an hour. As soon as I arrived at the airport, Victor's calls came in.
