Chapter 1

My fiancé's junior colleague went around the hospital every day calling herself "the best girl".

When a patient with acute appendicitis was admitted, she mistakenly prescribed laxatives instead of proper treatment. The patient nearly went into shock and died.

After the hospital was reported by the patient's family, she simply smiled and said, "I don't even need a supervising doctor to prescribe medication anymore. I'm such a good girl!"

On another occasion, she failed to order routine pre-op blood work for a surgical patient. During the procedure, a visiting senior surgeon was exposed and later contracted HIV.

She actually puffed out her chest and said, "Even if everyone had to stay up all night helping me save the doctor, I'm still the best girl!"

I protested more than once and urged my fiancé to dismiss her.

He refused every time. He brushed it off with a laugh, saying "this good girl" just needed time and experience.

Then, a prominent patient was transferred from a military hospital for surgery. She secretly tampered with the medical records, switching the pathology findings from the left lung to the right. She even revised the surgical plan, recommending removal of the patient's completely healthy right lung.

Luckily, I caught the mistake in time, restored the correct pathology report, and performed the surgery successfully.

After the patient recovered, he asked for our team to be recognized.

To my disbelief, Elena Bakers ran to my fiancé in tears.

"I wrote the entire report by myself! All by myself! I'm the best little girl!

"Why do you always take credit away from me? It took so much courage for this little girl to be brave just once!

"You're all horrible!"

Elena stormed out of the hospital and was struck and killed by a car on the spot.

My fiancé did not say a word.

However, on the very day I was appointed hospital director, he produced falsified evidence accusing me of altering records and causing multiple medical accidents to advance my career.

I was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death.

As the verdict was delivered, he looked at me with unmistakable satisfaction.

"You'll never make up for what you owe Elena. Not in this lifetime."

When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back on the day Elena altered the surgical plan.

"I did it! I put together the case and the surgery plan all by myself, and it's awesome!"

Elena Bakers hugged the surgery plan, made a fist, and cheered for herself.

I shivered without meaning to.

In my previous life, I caught Elena messing with the surgery plan.

She got the patient's sick left lung mixed up with the right lung.

I was the one who found the mistake and fixed the plan in time, saving the patient's life.

It was only after the operation that we discovered the patient had been transferred from a military medical facility and was someone of considerable importance.

After the patient recovered, he asked for our team to be recognized.

When I got a job offer from a big hospital, Elena told Liam Chapman that I took credit for her work.

She left the hospital angry, and then a car hit her.

Liam did not say anything when he heard she died.

However, when I became the head of the hospital, he made up lies that I cheated and caused lots of medical mistakes.

He got me thrown in jail, and I was sentenced to death.

I could still recall his angry face in my mind.

I had to clench my fists to keep my anger from showing.

Fine. In this life, I would give Elena, the innocent little girl she claimed to be, a chance to grow up.

"The surgery's all set, Mr. Hoffman. Don't worry, the patient will get better for sure."

Liam reassured the patient's family with all his heart.

Elena peeked out, holding the surgery plan, and hopped out from behind the nurse's desk.

"Liam!

"Look, I made this surgery plan all by myself. Make sure you use it later, okay?"

She had turned her nice white coat into something tight and silly.

It was covered in shiny clips that jingled like a Christmas tree when she moved.

It looked really strange.

Chapter 2

The family member turned to look and frowned, "Doctors dress like this now?"

When Liam's face turned red, I could not stifle a giggle.

After all, I had told her so many times before to dress differently.

However, Liam told me not to worry, saying that young people loved trendy stuff.

According to him, I was the one who could not keep up with fashion.

However, who would dress trendy in a hospital of all places?

I walked up, pretending to speak for Elena, "Mr. Hoffman, Elena is the heart of our team. She's got her own way of doing things, but she's really good at her job.

"If you don't believe me, let her show you the surgery plan she made."

Liam looked at her proudly, nodding a lot, "That's right, Mr. Hoffman, I trained Elena myself. She's performed so many major surgeries."

Elena gave him a playful punch, "I've told you, stop saying you're my nanny in public! This little girl is all grown up now!"

Her over-the-top act made the family member frown even more.

She handed over the surgery plan, saying again with pride, "I did this all on my own!"

The family member, already full of doubts, flipped through the surgery plan and was shocked.

Instead of a simple and clear plan, it was drawn like a comic.

Then, even more skeptical, the family member held up the plan and asked, "This is her professional work?!"

Liam was confused for a second, but seeing Elena's proud face, he gently patted her head and said with a big smile, "You just don't get it. This is how young folks do surgery plans these days.

"This girl is so cute and comforting that she can even cheer up patients."

He had a way of making even a mistake seem okay.

When I saw the family member looking unsure, I quickly stood up for Elena,

"Mr. Hoffman, you can trust Mr. Chapman. He's done this kind of surgery hundreds of times.

"With Dr. Bakers here, who Mr. Chapman trained himself, I don't think I’ll need to do anything.

"I'll just help out this time and learn from Mr. Chapman and Dr. Bakers' amazing work."

Elena was on cloud nine after hearing my compliments, and she could not hide her excitement.

She and the other nurses wheeled the patient into the surgery room.

The family asked to watch the whole surgery.

"Liam, remember that you promised to use my plan for the surgery!"

Elena showed up in a cute doll costume.

Liam gently patted her head with a warm smile, "I promised, didn't I? When have I ever broken a promise?"

The doctor in charge of anesthesia was shocked, "Mr. Chapman, we need to keep the surgery room germ-free. Everyone wears scrubs."

Liam looked at him calmly and said firmly, "Who's doing the surgery, you or me? She's my trainee. If I say it's okay, then it's okay."

Elena looked pure and simple, holding out her hands, "I'm clean, I washed my hands really well.

"I'm such a clean girl! Don't say mean things about me!"

The anesthesiologist was speechless. She wanted to say more, but I pulled her aside.

"With Mr. Chapman here, what could go wrong? Don't worry about it!"

She looked at me, and I could tell she got the gist of what I was thinking.

Chapter 3

We did not say anything else.

Liam got ready for the surgery, and I was all set to see what would happen next.

As I remembered from before, Elena messed up when it came to the most important thing during the surgery.

Liam asked Elena for something, "11 blade, please."

However, Elena gave him a 10 blade instead.

"What's this? This isn't the one I need." Liam, who was always so chill, looked upset for the first time.

Elena made a face like she was sorry, "Remember yesterday? I used one to cut an orange, the one you had when you stayed late. You forgot?

"That scalpel wasn't as good as this one, so I thought it'd be easier to use this one for the surgery."

It was just crazy.

The family watching got super mad and started yelling over the speaker, "She used a scalpel to cut oranges?! What kind of doctor does that?!

"Get her out of the surgery room, now!"

I allowed everyone hear the yelling, and Liam, sweating a bit, tried to calm them down,

"Don't worry, it's just a small thing!

"We have extra scalpels, so the surgery won't be affected, I promise."

Liam hurried to get the new scalpel box.

Inside, there were all those colorful craft knives that said "Elena's Special".

Elena grabbed one and showed it to him, "See how cute these are? I made them myself!

"I thought the regular scalpels were too cold and not friendly. Maybe these could make patients feel better!"

Liam looked so embarrassed, and I just could not stop feeling happy about it.

I remembered Elena's collection of knives from my previous life.

She had promised me, with all her heart, that one day she would use those special tools in surgery.

I spoke up on purpose to remind him, "Mr. Chapman, the family is getting impatient. Isn't it time for the surgery?"

Liam shot me a fierce look, "Quit it with the wisecracks!" Then, with a sense of helplessness, he turned to Elena, trying to keep his voice steady, "Elena, bring the scalpel, please. The patient needs surgery right away."

Elena's lips quivered, and her eyes started to tear up, "Why can't we use my special knives I got ready? Don't you want to give me a chance to shine?"

I hit the intercom button, sending her words through. The family on the other end was so upset they almost passed out, shouting, "Liam, this is your last chance!

"If my grandpa suffers because of you, you're going to pay for it!" Liam was frightened and had no time to worry about Elena's feelings. He yelled, "Now, bring me that scalpel immediately! If you're even a minute late, you're in big trouble!"

At last, the scalpel was brought into the operating room. Liam examined Elena's report for what seemed like forever. When it was time to make the cut on the right side of the chest, I couldn't help but ask, "Are you sure you've got the right spot?"

Liam glanced at the messy diagram, uncertain, but then Elena tugged at his arm and pleaded, "Liam, if you don't use my plan, that meanie will take all the credit!"

Liam's frown eased, and he snapped at me, "I don't need your reminders! I trust my own judgment, and Elena won't mess up."

I bit my lip and kept quiet, just making notes in the nurse's logbook.
