Chapter 1

One day, my husband's assistant called me. She said my husband had drowned while fishing and asked me to get there immediately.

In my panic and hurried state, I tripped over some fishing bait, fell down and fainted.

When I regained consciousness, my baby had gone. The doctor told me that he could not find the gestational sac anywhere and suggested I go back to the place where I fell to look for it.

Despite my grief, I force myself to the fishing spot only to see my husband's assistant acting coquettishly in my husband's arms.

"Mr. Hanson, Tanya Sayers did not come in the end and make you lose a dare! If you get a fish, you have to give it to me." She giggled.

My husband smiled indulgently. "Alright, it's all yours. Just as long as this beautiful mermaid belongs to me."

With tears streaming down my face, I rushed up to him and then comforted him, "Didn't you drown?"

However, he turned, looked at me with a cold expression and scolded, "What is wrong with you? You are scaring all the fish away!"

I was so disappointed with him that I demanded a divorce on the spot.

His assistant, Becca Summers, gazed at me with an apologetic look, then said, "Tanya, please don’t be mad. I went to your house to get more bait and meant to tell you it was just a game, but you weren't there..."

Hearing her, I froze and stared at the pot of bait as the doctor's words echoed in my ears.

Before I could do anything, Frank Hansen started sorting through the bait, put it on the hook and cast his line. "I really don't mind if you want us to divorce. However, you have to give birth and have a baby first for me and then you can be free."

When I saw what he was about to do, I screamed to stop him from casting the line, "Frank! Do you know what you are doing?"

I tried to get the bait, but failed and ended up falling into the pond. Frank's employee immediately saved me and took me to the hospital.

However, Frank did not even blink his eyes when he saw this. Believe it or not, he did not visit me at all while I was recuperating in the hospital.

After two days, I was discharged. So, I returned to our house to pack up my things.  However, when I saw all the memories of us littered all over the house, I felt like my heart was being stabbed by daggers.

I realized that I had wasted five years of my youth for nothing.

When I walked into the nursery, as I looked into the clothes that I had prepared lovingly for my baby, my eyes filled with tears.

Right at that moment, Frank finally came home. The man looked exhausted as if all of his energy had been drained. He tossed his fishing gear on the floor and as usual ordered me, "Make sure to clean it properly. I need to use it tomorrow."

In the past, I would have done that without protesting. I believed it was better for him to go fishing than for him to spend nights out drinking and socializing. However, today, I did not care at all. I kept packing my things silently as I treated him like he was invisible.

When he did not see me obeying his demand, he finally looked at me. He got annoyed when he saw all the packed suitcases and my tear-streak face.

"Tanya, why are you making such a big deal of this? You just made a trip for nothing then, so what? Is it really enough reason to run away?"

I stopped what I was doing and glared at him. "A big deal, you said? I'm pregnant! Have you ever considered my feelings or the baby's safety?" I was so angry that I had to squeeze out every word through clenched teeth.

Did that damn man think I'm overreacting? Didn't he realize our baby had gone? And that bitch, Becca, had used our baby as fishing baits! What a jerk!

When he heard this, Frank hesitated for a while and with a softer tone, he tried to coax me, "Alright, alright. Calm down. It's bad for the baby if you get upset."

He forcefully hugged me. His hand gently rubbed my belly, as if this act could fix everything.

However, this only made my heart ache even more and I broke free from his arms.

He looked displeased with my action but tried to hide his irritation. He pulled a piece of clothing from his bag and handed it to me. "I went too far with my joke, okay? Look, I got this for the baby. Don't be mad, alright?"

The moment my gaze fell onto the clothes, I felt I was struck by lightning. Those clothes were clearly for a dog!

When I came to the company to look for Frank, I saw Becca holding an express delivery package from the same brand in her hand. I also knew she had a poodle as a pet.

It seemed Becca did not have any use for the clothes that she bought anymore and now they were presented to me for my baby by Frank!

Unable to hold back the overwhelming sadness anymore, tears burst from my eyes and I blurted out, "Frank, let's have a divorce!"

He immediately lost his temper and yelled at me, "Tanya! How could you be so petty like this? Do you want a divorce over something so trivial? It’s not going to happen! My child must be born into a complete family."

Then he stormed into the bathroom and he opened his clothes. He did not realize that there were clear kiss marks on his shirt.

Before long, I could hear the sound of water running, However, the sound could not cover the sound of my heart breaking into pieces.

I closed my suitcase, took the divorce agreements and signed them.

Then, I picked up my suitcases and left the house of betrayal without looking back.

Chapter 2

It was raining heavily, much like the day I first met Frank. At that time, I was working as a nurse at a hospital and got a call to help out a chain reaction car accident on the city highway.

Before long, a man and a woman, covered with blood, were rushed into the hospital. They were Frank's parents.

Although Frank forced himself to maintain his composure when he saw me and the doctor, he failed. It was proven by the tremble in his voice when he begged, "Please, save them …."

Me and the doctor went to the operating room to operate on his parent. However, death was ruthless. The doctor could not save them.

When I told him that his parent could not be saved, the tall man fell to his knees and wept uncontrollably. He clung to me and said hoarsely, "I don't have any more family … no him…."

What had happened to him, moved my heart. So, I hugged him back. Eventually, he passed out from heartache and exhaustion.

He stayed in the hospital for two days and I was by his side all the time to take care of him.

After he woke up and recovered his sanity and composure, he wrote down "thank you" on a piece of napkin and left without saying goodbye.

I thought he would disappear into the crowd, just like my other patients did. Imagined how surprised I was when I saw him appear at the hospital entrance two weeks later in a luxury car with a rose in his hand.

He said gratitude should be shown with action. He wanted to pursue me and give the best for me. Only then, did I know he was the sole heir of the Hansen family.

After his parents’ sudden death, the company was in chaos. So, he had to leave to stabilize the situation.

When I hesitated to accept his pursuit, he fainted again from exhaustion. Because I felt sympathetic to his situation, I took him home.

My action of feeding him a bowl of hot soup moved his heart and hardened his resolve to marry me.

When my mother found out, she felt sorry for him and became his biggest ally. My friend teased me, claiming that because Frank was rich, had a house and did not have his parents anymore, he would become the perfect husband for me.

Under his relentless pursuit and my mother's pressure, we quickly became a couple and got married.

I quit my job to focus on taking care of him and gave him the home he wished. After a while, he finally stopped brooding and started smiling more. His career flourished.

However, our happiness began to fade after he hired a new assistant. The one that he said was his junior from his school and had just returned from abroad.

After Becca became his right-hand woman, she suggested for him to balance between work and leisure, he took her on trips, leaving me behind.

When she advised him to meet veteran investors, he started fishing and mingling with old men.

These men brought their mistresses along and soon Frank stopped inviting me out to have dinners with him and his associates.

He even did not care to come home when I told him I was pregnant. His reasoning was he had to help Becca pick out a sun hat for fishing.

I turned a blind eye, hoping that after our baby was born, he would finally settle down. Sadly, my patience only made him justify his extreme cruelty towards me and our child.

Yesterday, he even made my baby and I to be a wager for his entertainment.

A flash of lightning struck.

Now, I was completely awake. As I placed my hand on my flat belly, I felt utterly desolate. The tenderness and love I once cherished had become a blade that severed our relationship completely.

Due to my weakened state after the miscarriage, I went back to the hospital for a follow-up the next day. As I parked my car, several dark figures blocked my path. They were Frank and his bodyguards.

I sighed. "Frank, you finally come to the hospital to see me? Too bad it’s too late for everything."

However, he showed no remorse at all. He roughly pulled me into the car and took me to Becca’s house.

Inside the house, Becca was sobbing while cradling her beloved dog on the couch. The poodle looked sick and listless.

I turned to look at Frank. "Do you care to tell me what is this about?"

His voice was as cold as ice. "Stop pretending, Tanya. What did you poison Sadie with? Speak up!"

“What poison? What are you talking about?” I was bewildered by his sudden accusation.

“Enough! Do you know how much Becca loves Sadie? She has had it for three years and it is her life!” Frank’s eyes flashed with cruelty. “Even if you’re jealous, you can’t poison a dog. How could you be so vicious?”

I was stunned. I thought he had come to comfort me after learning about our lost baby. When he appeared, I even hoped he realized his mistake and wanted to reconcile.

I never imagined his concern for me and our baby was less than for a dog! Not only had he caused my miscarriage and grief, but now he was accusing me of poisoning that damn dog!

My pain turned to anger. “Are you insane? Why would I do such a thing?”

Becca slowly stood up, her voice trembling with tears. “Frank, I know Tanya must have acted on impulse. Don’t be so harsh to her.”

I sneered. “Becca, you really put on quite a nice show. However, your wretched dog that you raise isn’t worth my time.”

She didn’t respond. She just cried quietly with her head hanging low.

Frank embraced her protectively, glaring at me. “Tanya, you’re still dare to deny it? Watch this!”

He pulled out his phone and played a surveillance video. In the video, someone resembling me approached Becca’s house and fed the poodle a piece of meat.

“What do you have to say now?” He looked at me with disgust.

My heart sank. Five years of marriage and he did not even have any trust in me?

“Frank, this silhouette proves nothing. You’d rather believe this than trust me?”

When a flicker of doubt crossed his eyes, Becca suddenly cried her eyes out. “Tanya, I know you were upset Frank took fishing. However, when I went to your house to get some bait, you weren’t there. I didn’t expect you to sneak over and poison Sadie. No matter what you think of me, Sadie is innocent! Please, even the doctors can't identify what you fed it. I beg you, spare it!”

She placed Sadie on the floor. When Frank looked poodle staggered three steps and coupled with the sad sound that Becca made, his face turned hard.

He pulled the aggravated Becca up and glared at me. "Tanya, don't challenge my patience! Becca is my junior at my school. She has been working hard all this time alone. It is normal for me to care for her. So, don't push your luck."

When I looked at how obsessed Frank toward Becca, there was despair and sadness in my heart. On the day of the incident, I was still lying unconscious in the hospital, having a miscarriage. How could I have time to poison Becca's dog? It was obvious Becca framed me, but Frank believed her.

It was me who gave him a ray of light when he was at the bottom of his life.

It was me who gave him a ray of light when he was at the bottom of his life. It was me who pulled him up from despair. However, Frank doubted my character.

How ironic!

At this time, Sadie staggered toward the fish tank, barked weakly twice and stretched his paw toward the fish inside.

It seemed Becca had become hysterical. She laughed and cried at the same time. “Frank, look! Sadie wants to eat the fish.”

I was so done with them and did not want to argue with them anymore. So, I turned to leave.

Just when I was about to leave, I heard Frank consoled Becca with a gentle voice, "Don't worry. Sadie will be fine. I will tell Tanya to cook the fish that I caught that day to make fish soup for it. She is an excellent cook."

I felt like I had been struck by lightning. As soon I turned around, I saw Sadie tearing into the fish.

“Tanya, please! If you won’t tell us what you poisoned Sadie with, then at least cook the fish Frank caught that day.”

My blood ran cold and I could hardly breathe. The image of Frank selecting the bait was still vivid in my mind.

From my perspective, that fish had eaten my baby. How could I let my baby's remains be desecrated like this?

“No way! No one touches this fish! Over my dead body! Especially not that damn dog!”

I rushed forward and kicked the dog away, then snatched the fish from its jaws.

Sadie and Becca screamed simultaneously.

She wailed and lunged at me. “Tanya! Do you really want to kill Sadie? What did you poison it with? I’ll fight you for its life!”

My body was very weak and I had to dodge and avoid her attacks, so I began to tremble all over while holding the fish as if it were my baby.

“Becca, you know exactly what happened to your dog. Stop being a bitch! I’ve already signed the divorce papers. You can take my place.”

I tried to leave, but she wouldn’t let me go. “You can’t take that fish! It’s for Sadie!”

The floor was slippery. Neither of us would let go and we both fell.

Dazed from the fall, I looked up, only to see Sadie disemboweling the fish.

The sight brought back the pain of losing my baby all over again.

“You wretch!”

I straddled Becca and slapped her repeatedly. Anger and grief clouded my reason. As tears streamed down my face, despair consumed me.

“Tanya, stop it!” Frank shouted while ordering his bodyguards to pull me off Becca and hold me down.

He tenderly checked on Becca. She was bleeding from her mouth and clutching her face. She whimpered in his arms. “Frank, you promised me that you would give me that fish. Sadie is so sick and just wants to eat some fish. Is that too much for me to ask? I know I upset Tanya, but I just want Sadie to live.”

Although her voice was soft, she glared at me with malice.

Frank, who felt so guilty because of my act, softly reassured her, “Becca, I have made you suffer. This is all my fault.”

Then he turned to me, his voice harsh. “Tanya, you’ve gone too far! It’s just a fish! How could you hit her?”

“Apologize to Becca, right now! Then make that fish soup for Sadie, or I will never forgive you!

Chapter 3

"How dare she!" I gritted my teeth and with tears streaming down my face, I kicked a vase hard and sent it flying toward Becca.

Frank grabbed my chin. I could see the blazing anger in his eyes. "You are testing my limit, Tanya."

After he said that, he dragged me forcefully toward the kitchen without care of my resistance.

Meanwhile, his bodyguards had already picked up the fish, cleaned it and thrown it into the pot.

I felt like a puppet being controlled because the bodyguards as they hold my hands, forced me to add salt and other ingredients to the pot under Frank's command.

The fishy smell from the soup overwhelms me and in turn, it causes me to feel dizzy and retch violently.

Suddenly, something seemed to occur to Frank and he ordered his bodyguards to release me.

As soon as they released my hands, I collapsed to the floor. I could only see the boiling white soup through the veil of my tears.

I had suffered so much in Frank's hands and even after I bore his child, I was still subjected to slander.

And my baby … even in his death, he was still defiled like this! This was all my fault! I had failed to protect him!

This realization and the tremendous inner pain made me retch violently.

And still, the man thought I was just acting. "Tanya, stop pretending. You have never experienced morning sickness since the very beginning, just admit your mistakes!"

I just laughed bitterly. "You are right. I have made a mistake … A huge mistake!"

Yes! My biggest mistake was getting involved in Frank's life.

With her sharp voice that grated my ears, Becca purposely added fuel to the fire. "So, you've finally admitted it. However, what's the use? Tell me, what kind of poison you gave to Sadie! Apologize to my dog immediately!"

The sorrow and shame hit me like a tidal wave. I staggered to my feet and walked toward the soup. Without caring about the scalding heat of the soup, I desperately plunged my hands into the pot, trying to retrieve my baby.

"No, you can eat it! I won't let you! My baby …." I muttered incoherently.

Frank rushed forward to stop me. He pulled my hand from the pot and put my hands under running cold water. "Are you gone mad, Tanya?"

Somehow, I find the strength to break free from him and throw myself at the fish soup again, while still repeating that it can't be eaten.

Seeing me act like this, turned Frank's confusion into rage. He directly poured the fish soup into the dog bowl.

"No!" I yelled in anguished.

However, it was too late.

The bodyguards held me back as I watched helplessly the last shred of my hope being devoured by the dog.

With utter despair, I yelled and screamed madly. "Frank! You are worse than a beast! I'll kill you!"

Perhaps my expression was too terrifying because Becca shrunk her body behind Frank and whispered to him, "Frank, you had been too good to Tanya. Look at her. She is using her pregnancy to disrespect you."

This successfully made Frank frown and sneer coldly. "I really misjudged you. How can someone like you be a mother?"

I laughed maniacally and screamed, "Do you think you'll still be a father? You're not worthy!"

Frank was thoroughly enraged. "Fine! Tanya, I've given you chances. Since you refuse to admit your mistake, I'll find the evidence myself. Be ready to face the consequences!"

He immediately calls his secretary. "Bring me Tanya's itinerary, immediately! I want to know where she bought the poisonous meat!"

The secretary quickly replied to him, "Mr. Hansen, that day, Mrs. Hansen went to the hospital. and she ...."

Before he could finish his sentence, Frank sneered and interrupted him, "Oh, I forgot you used to be a nurse. Did you use a prohibited drug? Tanya, you’re truly despicable!"

"Quick! Investigate what medicine she bought!" Frank roared.

With trembled body, the secretary tried to intervene, "Mr. Hansen, Mrs. Hansen did not get any medication that day. She had a miscarriage. "

Frank staggered. His pupils dilated in shock as he yelled, "Impossible! What nonsense are you spouting about?"
