Chapter 2

"May, Sarah is kind enough to care about you, how did you say that?"

Steve came over and protected her behind him like an old hen.

"In the past, I often quarreled with Steve for Sarah, and I stubbornly wanted to prove that I was the first in his heart."

"Thinking about it now, it’s really ridiculous to deceive myself."

"At the critical moment of life and death, my beautiful dream was ruthlessly shattered."

"I used to think that crying was a sign of sadness, but now I understand that when one was hurt to the extreme, it was silence that the sign of a dead heart."

"I thank her for her kindness, but sorry, I don't need it!"

"Please make way!"

I didn't want to get involved any further, so I turned and left.

After taking a few steps, Steve caught up with me.

"What did you want to say on the phone just now? How are you? Have you got hurt that day?"

I didn't want to say what I wanted to say just now.

He was the one who caused my injury in the first place. He had ignored me for so many days. What was this now? Was this just false sympathy?

"You really care about me. Why didn't you come home to visit me these days?"

I lowered my head and continued on my way.

"You konw, doctor is a busy job, I can't get away."

I stopped and turned my head to look carefully at the man in front of me whom I had loved for so many years. It turned out that he could lie so frankly.

I injured my abdomen that night, and the only surgeon in that hospital who was capable of saving the fetus was him.

But he hurriedly took annual leave and could not be contacted.

"Steve Green, you didn't read my message, did you?"

"It doesn't matter if you haven't seen it. I'm telling you right now, let's break up!"

His face turned stiff in an instant, his pupils filled with shock and disbelief.

"Why?"

"Just because I protected Sarah that day, you want to break up with me unreasonably. Is that necessary?"

"Her foot was injured. Besides, if she hadn't accompanied you to the hospital, would she have been so frightened that she couldn't sleep every night? May, you have to be conscientious."

I sneered and looked at the man in front of me who was making unreasonable arguments.

That day I just went for a check-up and prepared to create a file, and unexpectedly ran into Sarah at the hospital gate.

According to him, it was she who accompanied me to the hospital to see him.

"Steve, God is watching what you do, and you are not right just because you speak louder."

"Why did you push me that day? You know it better than anyone else!"

Steve frowned, very impatient with my ignorance.

"May, could you please stop being unreasonable!"

"You are a man who dares to go to the battlefield, why are you afraid of that little gangster? She is different, she is timid, she needs my care!"

Seeing that I didn't say anything, he paced on the spot a few steps in annoyance and grabbed my shoulders.

"May, it's my fault this time. I didn't stand up to protect you in time."

"Next time this happens, I will protect you behind me immediately, okay?"

Stubbornly slapped his hand away, I didn't want to say another word.

"I've already apologized, what else do you want?"

I stared into his eyes coldly, word by word.

"I want to break up, just because I don't love you anymore and don't want you anymore!"

"As for who you want to accompany and who you want to protect, it has nothing to do with me."

Seeing that I was not moved, Steve panicked and walked up to me and grabbed my hand.

Just as he was about to speak, he was interrupted by Sarah's voice behind him.

"Steve, I found it. I found the dirty thing that the master mentioned!"

Chapter 3

Subconsciously, I looked back like Steve did. After seeing their actions clearly, I ignored the pain in my wounds and ran up the mountain for my life.

"Stop it, stop it!"

Over there, Sarah was directing the people who followed to dig up the small mound of earth.

The small crystal box was turned over and thrown at Sarah's feet in a mess.

I was afraid that she would do something out of line again, so I rushed forward and pushed her to the ground, holding the crystal box tightly in my arms.

"Don’t be afraid, baby. Don’t be afraid, baby. Mom will protect you."

"Bang!"

Steve, who had caught up with me, hurriedly helped Sarah up, then turned around and slapped me hard.

"It's just a broken box, May, why are you so mad!"

Sarah sobbed and looked at him pitifully.

"Steve, the thing in May's hand is the dirty thing that conspirator said that is harming me!"

Steve looked at the box in my arms with a gloomy look.

"I had no idea what they were talking about, but I had a feeling they were going to hurt my "baby". So, I subconsciously grabbed the crystal box and ran away."

But with my injuries on my body, I was no match for them and they caught up with me after just a few steps.

They restrained my arms, and Steve coldly snatched the crystal box from my hands.

"Steve, please, please, give it back to me."

"Except for this, I will agree to any conditions you ask. Please, give it back to me!"

Steve patted my face and lifted my chin.

"May, it's a pity that you don't master in performance. You were so stubborn just a second ago, but now you're kneeling down and begging for mercy for this worthless rubbish."

"Your method of trying to get my attention is really disgusting. How about this, you apologize to Sarah first!"

"My baby was lost because of her, and now it's her who dug out it."

"How could I be willing to apologize to her? I wished she was dead!"

"Steve, that's not garbage, that's your baby..."

"Brother Steve, look, there are words on the bottom of the box, and it happens to be my name!"

Steve was attracted by Sarah's words and didn't hear a word I said.

They pointed and talked at the bottom of the crystal box.

Steve walked towards me step by step, his eyes full of contempt.

"May, just to be jealous, I didn't expect you to resort to such despicable means."

"I didn't understand what he was talking about and shook my head vigorously."

"In order to win my favor, you actually used the corpses of cats and dogs to curse Sarah. No wonder she sprained her ankle and encountered criminals recently."

"It's all your fault, isn't it?"

Steve, who had always been a firm materialist, actually believed Sarah's lies.

"No, no, there's nothing in there, it's my..."

Steve sneered and was too impatient to listen to my explanation.

"May, you take me for a fool. If it wasn't to frame Sarah, why is the letter "S" and "W" engraved on the bottom of this box?"

"S.W." is not Sarah White, but Simon William, which was the name I gave to my baby.

But Steve no longer listened to any of my explanations and he held the box high up.

"May, don't you treasure this box? I'll show you what happens if you don't obey me!"

He threw the box heavily.

I watched the box fly high into the air, then fall heavily and break into pieces. The tightly wrapped "baby" inside rolled out and rolled all the way to the foot of the mountain.

I didn't know where the strength came from, I shook off the person who was holding me down, and ran towards my "baby" regardless of everything.

It's just that I ran too slowly, too slowly.

Just when I was about to catch up with it, a wild dog suddenly ran out from the side and swallowed it in one bite.

My baby, my baby...

Everything went dark before my eyes and I fell headfirst.

Chapter 4

When I woke up, I opened my eyes and saw Steve's relieved expression.

"May, you finally woke up."

Looking around, I found myself in his hospital.

He looked at me with guilt.

"The doctor said you were injured that day. I'm sorry, I didn't know!"

"It's all my fault. I failed to protect you!"

"Just stay here and take good care of yourself. I'll serve you!"

He reached out and tried to ruffle my hair like I always liked.

I turned my head away from his hand.

He stopped where he was awkwardly and tucked the quilt in for me as if to cover up.

He was sitting on the edge of the bed, clumsily peeling an apple, when the phone rang.

After looking at me, he gritted his teeth and hung up the phone.

The phone kept ringing tirelessly, and I threw the things on the bedside table to the ground.

"Get out, it's so noisy!"

Steve went out and never came back.

I was discharged from the hospital on my own that day.

The next day after arriving home, Steve came back.

"I'm sorry, May, the toilet at Sarah's house was clogged yesterday, so I went to help her..."

Before he finished speaking, he suddenly saw the medical documents on the table.

Steve suddenly raised his head and pointed at me with trembling hands.

"May, just because I went to help Sarah, you secretly aborted our child?"

"Why are you so cruel?"

His eyes were red, as if he had suffered a huge blow.

"Sarah and I grew up together and have been family for a long time. Why don't you understand?"

"We have been trying to conceive for so long, and you aborted it so easily. Are you still a human being?"

I calmly watched his grief and wondered what he would do if he knew the truth.

"Steve Green, can you take a look at the date on the receipt?"

He quickly lowered his head, with a moment of confusion on his face, and then he frowned.

"You aborted the baby because I didn't protect you?"

Haha, men with one-track minds were really scary.

"No! It was you who pushed me forward that day and caused the villain to injure my uterus!"

"The hospital called you at the beginning, but you refused."

"The hospital said that night that there was a complicated surgery. Could it be you who wanted to save the fetus with an injured uterus..."

The confusion on his face gradually disappeared, and he couldn't continue speaking. He coughed dryly to hide his guilty conscience.

"Did you really lose this child because of the knife wound? Did you not abort it on purpose?"

"Bang!"

I slapped him hard.

"Are you awake? If you don't believe me, you can go back to the hospital and retrieve the medical records!"

Ever since Sarah returned to our city, he had abandoned me again and again because of her, and now he even subconsciously doubted the medical records.

He pursed his lips and struggled to defend himself guiltily.

"I didn't mean it! Fortunately, you just lost a child, but I saved Sarah!"

"It's worth it to exchange a child for a life!"

The anger in my heart was burning, "Who give you the right to sacrifice my baby?"

Hearing my roar, he calmed down, tugged at my clothes, and moved carefully.

"I was wrong, don't be angry! We are still young, and when you are well, we will have another child!"

But, Steve Green, I would never have my own baby in this life!

I closed my eyes tiredly and didn't want to say another word to him.

"You were so badly injured, why did you run up the mountain yesterday?"

I opened my eyes and looked at him coldly.

"Steve, do you know what's in that box?"

He looked at me subconsciously, and I smiled cruelly at him.

“That’s our baby!”
