Everyone said that Celeste Stewart, my beloved fiancée, indeed fell in love with that one college student.
Celeste took him to the party she was invited to, introduced him to her circle of friends and gave him everything he needed.
And by the way, that guy was my junior from the same school I attended and even messaged me on WhatsApp earlier.
At first, it was normal for him to send me messages asking about finance and economics. Not long after, he shared videos of his life on his TikTok account and used them to show off to me.
There was no time he wouldn't message me.
[Colbert, I want you not to keep Celeste by your side anymore. Why can't you not let go of her?]
[I mean, you already know she loves me now, not you. Don't you feel sad you'll see you loving each other?]
[Let go already. Celeste loves me now, not you. No matter how affectionate you were with each other before, I don't care. It's now in the past and I am her present.]
[What happened before?]
Atticus Wilson, the junior whom Celeste chose over me. The way he questioned me meant he wasn't aware when we started.
Celeste and I started as childhood sweethearts before our relationship lasted for years.
As I grew up and got into the same school for me, I was the one who was too slow with our relationship.
She was the first person I fell in love with.
I remembered what she told me before and would never forget it.
"Colbert, let's be together. I don't want you to treat me like your own sister. I want to be your fiancée," she said to me.
Celeste stood at my door, blushing and said something I would keep in my heart for a long time. After a while, I nodded.
I remember how joyous she was back then, probably the happiest I've ever seen her.
When my parents discovered our relationship, they were happy and supported us.
With everyone's support showered on us, I thought I would be with the person I loved forever. I planned to cherish her more than ever.
But things didn't go as planned. In an unexpected event, Celeste was hit by the car, even when the stop light turned red on her mind to take our wedding photos with me.
Same with the drama scene, she had forgotten all about me. Worse, she didn't want to think about me anymore.
***
It was already midnight when my phone vibrated. Upon checking the screen, Celeste's name appeared and called me for whatever reason.
With that, I did not hesitate to pick up my phone and accept the call, still with a glimmer of hope.
"Hello? Is this you, Celeste?" I asked, my voice trembling, unsure of the reason behind her calls.
It was the first time Celeste contacted me after the car incident transpired.
However, on the other line, I could only hear the noise; it seemed like she was in the bar. I continued asking her, but she wasn't answering and no one talked to me.
As soon as I was about to end the call, I heard Celeste's lovely voice on the other line.
"Colbert, please come and pick me up," she said.
Before I could react, she sent me the exact location of the bar she went with.
Although we did not have a deep conversation, my heart raced as she spoke. I could not wait to see her there.
I stopped everything I did and went out to drive, heading into the bar.
In the car, I couldn't help but think of the plan she made when she left the hospital that day.
Celeste was very resistant to me, even showing disgust.
I refused when she asked to break off the engagement and so did her parents. I suggested we give it a month.
Once the month was over and she loathed me to the bones, I would leave her forever, as planned.
Celeste hesitated, but it was the best choice we could have. With that, Celeste agreed to me.
With our new agreement, Celeste had to live under the same roof as me for a month, just like we had done in the past.
Even the doctor once told me that if she came into contact with familiar people and objects, it would help her slowly recover her lost memory.
However, I did not expect her disgust with me to reach this point.
She never stayed home during the day and avoided being in the same space as me.
Even at night, she only came back after I was asleep.
In the bar, I entered the noisy crowd and entered the private room where Celeste stayed.
Standing still at the door, I was about to enter inside when I heard Atticus' loud voice inside.
"Damn! You look too good!" Atticus complimented. "Will we be together in the future?"
Before Celeste could answer, I pushed open the door and walked inside.
It wasn't only Celeste and Atticus inside the room; their other friends were also there.
Some of them were spoiled, uneducated, wealthy kids.
I remember before Celeste lost her memory, she would never dare hang out with people like them. Like now, she wouldn't stay in the bar and drink until she was out of it.
One of them spotted me standing near the door and said, "Hey, look who's coming in. Aren't you the well-known man from the Anderson Family? What brings you out here to hang out with?"
When he said that, it caught everyone's attention and they all laughed their asses out loud.
That one man sitting next to Celeste dared not to react, staring at me coldly as if I had done something worse, even if I didn't.
It seemed that I, the official fiancé, interfered with their relationship, not him.
However, Celeste remained seated, holding a wine glass and looked at me.
She spread her arms to them the next moment and said, "Yes, I won! Now give me the money!"
Standing still opposite Celeste, I saw everyone somewhat disappointed that I had arrived and that all of them had lost. They all went closer to Celeste, scanning the payment code to pay their bet.
With that, I just realized it was all a play and I had been played.
"It seems that Mr. Anderson loves Celeste. She just said that, even though she was not sure, he's now here," said someone.
"How can you call him a fiancé then?" someone asked.
"Oh, what did you say? Both of them might not be in a relationship in the future, right, Atticus?" they asked Atticus.
I was lost for words. Everyone around Celeste teased her. What everyone was telling her seemed to be a dagger that stabbed my heart, slowly killing me deep inside.
It was well known that Atticus wasn't as wealthy as everyone around, faced mockery and could only look at Celeste helplessly.
"Celeste, should I leave?" Atticus asked her.
Frowning, I walked closer in their direction and pushed Atticus away from Celeste.
"Get lost!" I yelled and couldn't help it anymore.
Then I grabbed Celeste's wrist and said, "Come home with me!"
Celeste pulled away from my touch with disgust and helped Atticus instead to get up.
She looked at him with worry and sadness as if I had hurt him.
"I am fine, there is no need to worry," Atticus said, forcing a smile on his face. “It is my fault for making your fiancé loathe me."
As soon as he said that, Celeste turned and glared at me, clearly annoyed with my existence.
"Don't worry. He won't be my fiancé anymore soon," she assured him.
While I watched, Celeste was too calm having a conversation with Atticus than me.
I couldn't hear what Atticus said to her, but Celeste looked up at me. She then slowly approached me.
"If you want me to go back, then you finish this one bottle of wine first," she said, pointing at the wine.
Celeste placed a bottle of vodka in front of me while Atticus stood behind me and smirked.
I had shared with Celeste before that I had stomach problems. She knew it.
Before losing her memory, she used to cook different meals for me every day. She even brought people from her company to ensure I ate well.
Even if Celeste's dishes weren't as tasty as I expected, I endured it and ate just to see her smiling, feeling proud of what she had done.
Later that time, Celeste even trained to be good at cooking. She felt sorry for me.
It was hard for me to accept that the old her was gone and she was now the Celeste that loathed me to the bones.
And my memory was mixed up.
Seeing my hesitation, she smirked and took Atticus' hand.
She said, "Let's go back to the hotel."
I grabbed her hand as they were about to leave and could not wait for my decision.
"I will drink, just don't leave," I said.
Everyone's gaze was on me, watching me take the bottle and drink it without minding if it drank me.
With Celeste's current situation, I didn't have a regular meal like before. I didn't even have dinner when I left home and headed to meet her.
As I drank half of the content of the wine, my clothes were soaked with sweat.
Observing my unsteady appearance, those around me hesitated and whispered something to Celeste that I couldn't hear clearly.
At least if something transpired to me, then they would face consequences. The Anderson Family wasn't easy to deal with.
Celeste looked at my pale face and said, "Nah, this is boring!"
She then grabbed her bag from the sofa and headed out.
When she walked past me, she playfully shouted at me.
“You better stop it, Colbert. You can't even walk anymore, can you?” she asked and smirked.
I endured the dizziness and the stomach cramps I felt within me and followed Celeste's footsteps outside up until I reached the gate and could not help but vomit at the side.
As soon as I moved my gaze up and turned to see Celeste's direction, I already saw Atticus on her side. And the two embraced each other like a sweet couple in one blink.
At that moment, my heart felt like it was being stepped on multiple times and I almost couldn't breathe anymore.
It pained me so much that I almost could not feel any stomach ache.
Under the influence of alcohol, I slowly fell and sat next to the trash can.
Celeste did not notice me next to the trash can until she safely sent Atticus into the taxi.
At the taxi's window, Atticus widened his smile, proud and confident he could win over Celeste than me. We weren't at the end yet, but Atticus acted as if we were.
The wind blew, making me want to sob over what I had felt deep within me.
In a blink, I went closer to Celeste, saying, "Celeste, you know what? It hurts me a lot. I don't know what I am feeling right now.”
I regretted admitting my feelings at that moment. I shouldn't have said it, especially now that Celeste, standing in front of me, looked disgusted and was not interested in hearing anything from me.
Even if she wouldn't say it, I knew why. For her, I was a burden and trapped her from loving the man she desired than me.
Not until the surroundings started to darken. I didn't know what awaited me when I woke up. Right there and then, I lose consciousness.
As soon as I opened my eyes, I saw myself lying on the hospital bed. There was no one around me. That made me wonder.
Later on, my assistant's voice was heard from the door. In the next few minutes, he entered the ward and stood at the side.
“At last, you are now awake, Mr. Anderson,” my assistant said. “Have some soup. I went out to buy it for you.”
Instead of answering him, I asked, “What about Celeste? Where is she?”
I recalled that I was with her one last night at the club and was forced to drink some wine.
My assistant, Zach Evander, changed his mood when I mentioned Celeste's name as if he disliked him for her current attitude towards me.
“Zach, just take the soup for yourself and thanks for buying it,” I said, appreciating his effort. “I want to ask you again. Where is Celeste? Is she busy, or did she go somewhere?”
I ignored the IV on my hand and forced myself to stand up.
When Zach saw me, he went forward to assist me. He then took the opportunity to discuss in detail what transpired last night.
Zach worked with me for many years already.
Last night, I had a stomach attack and fainted next to the trash can. It turned out that Celeste had called Zach over and informed him about my situation.
"When I arrived, Mr. Anderson, you were lying next to the trash can and there was no one around," Zach admitted.
Zach almost had whispered it to me, terrified I would react. He observed my reaction and worries splashed around his face.
It was too late for me to know that Celeste had left me alone without waiting for Zach to arrive and assist me.
Instead of ignoring the soup Zach handed me, I took a sip, but I couldn't describe what I was feeling deep within me. I was disheartened that my lover managed to see me struggling alone.
Back then, if I fainted and wasn't in the mood, she would ask if I was fine and what caused me to have a bad mood.
But things changed. When I fainted with Celeste's witness, she wouldn't care and would call my assistant instead to take good care of me.
The afternoon came and my grandparents called to assure me I was fine here, asking about my current condition.
"We've already asked Celeste to come see you. She's just too immature,” one of them said.
"Colbert, you know she has amnesia now. Please forgive her,” Grandma said.
I had to choose to respond to them, whatever they were telling me. Sometimes, I nodded my head, but I couldn't tell if I could endure it until the end.
I had to tell myself she treated me this way because of her amnesia, or I wouldn't be able to endure it.
Once they ended the call, I realized something was wrong.
If Celeste loathed me, then there would be no way she would tell her parents about my situation. She would conceal it from them.
Meanwhile, Zach wouldn't meddle in someone's affairs, including mine. It was just that he had no courage to do so.
I was pondering it momentarily when the door suddenly opened and caught my attention.
Then I heard Celeste's furious voice, asking, “Colbert! How dare you! Are you just playing with me?!”
She said, “Wow, you are just pretending to be sick. What for? Just to make others think I owe you, right?"
Her voice filled inside, with her words echoing at the four corners of the ward. She then walked straight to me.
She threw several photos in my face and stunned me for a moment.
Seeing me hurt, Celeste was astounded for two seconds and then her disgust returned.
In the photos, Celeste and Atticus embraced each other. Anyone could see it could tell they were a lover.
In the distance, I could still be seen lying on the ground with a pale face.
“If it weren't for the person who took the photos coming to me for money, these photos would have been exposed,” she explained.
She asked, “What do you want to do? Slander me?"
I didn't utter any response and remained zipping my mouth.
“Are you saying that I cheated, huh? Or would you want to let Atticus be tagged as the third party?” she asked again, still too cold to me.
