Chapter 2

Tears of sadness welled up in my eyes.

I held my flat belly with hands sadly...

After a period of silence, Zayn went to Ian Jones' office.

As a case profiler, Ian stayed in the office doing profiling after returning from the scene.

When Zayn entered, there were already more than a dozen portraits hanging on the walls.

The girl in the portrait was young and beautiful.

But his eyes and eyebrows looked very much like me.

When Zayn looked around at the portraits, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes.

But he was only surprised for a second, then asked seriously, "Have you drawn it?"

“Yes.”

Ian stood up, picked up the portrait he had just drawn on the table, and handed it to him, "Take a look."

Zayn took the portrait and looked at it carefully.

The new portrait looked more like me than the ones on the wall.

A young colleague saw the portrait in Zayn's hand and blurted out, "Captain Louis, why do I feel that this woman looks a bit like Joe?"

Zayn glanced at her and said calmly, "Don't talk nonsense."

Ian tapped the young colleague on the head with a pencil.

"You know what Captain Louis' pet peeve is others mentioning her."

The young colleague quickly shut up.

I smiled bitterly.

It turned out that Zayn hates me so much that he didn't even allow anyone to mention me.

In order to solve the case as soon as possible.

Zayn didn't even go home and stayed in the bureau for the whole night.

The next morning.

Zayn came back to the pile of body parts and examined them again while suppressing his physiological nausea.

The conclusion of the case was that the criminals appeared to have strong anti-reconnaissance capabilities, as they destroyed the body parts beyond recognition of their original appearance.

But they casually threw the body parts into the sewer, making it easy for the police to find them.

He said to everyone in a heavy tone, "The criminals' behavior is a provocation and a mockery of the police. Everyone must pay attention to the personal safety of themselves and their families during this period."

"So was the criminal a vendetta?"

Someone asked.

"Yes."

Zayn said decisively, "If they were just provoking the police, they wouldn't have to resort to such brutal murder."

After the meeting, everyone started calling home to remind their families to be careful.

Only Zayn plunged headfirst into the case again.

Ian finished the call and turned around, saw that he didn't move and asked, "Zayn, why don't you call your family?"

Zayn said without even looking up. "No need, Stella just had a heart transplant yesterday and she's still in the ICU."

"I'm talking about Joe."

"She?"

Zayn raised his eyes and glanced at Ian, with a hint of disdain on the corners of his pretty lips, "It'll be better that she doesn't hurt anyone."

"Zayn, I don't think she is such a scheming person. Maybe you misunderstood her."

"Ian, I know her better than you."

Zayn didn't seem to want to talk about me anymore, so he stood up from his chair and said, "Okay, go back to your business."

...

Zayn said that Stella was safe.

But he still found time to go to the hospital.

Stella, whose operation was exceptionally successful, has been transferred from the ICU to the general ward.

Despite her frail body, she looked at Zayn and asked with concern, "Zayn, why do you look so haggard? Is the dismemberment case not going well?"

Zayn nodded, "It wasn't going well, so I couldn't accompany you for the surgery."

Stella smiled sensibly.

"Your work is more important. I can get it myself."

"Stella is the best."

Zayn touched the top of her head with relief, "Does the wound hurt?"

"It doesn't hurt. It won't hurt as long as you care about me."

"It's a pity that I have to deal with the case later and can't stay with you for a while."

"It doesn't matter. Your work is more important."

Zayn nodded and said seriously, "We haven't figured out the criminals' ultimate goal yet. For safety reasons, I will hire two more nurses to accompany you. Don't run around, okay?"

"Don't worry, Zayn. I will protect myself."

Stella held Zayn's hand and smiled happily.

But I was so sad that I cried.

Zayn hadn't been so gentle to me for a long time.

Ever since the day Stella killed the puppy that Zayn gave her, blamed on me, and fainted in Zayn's arms.

I never received any warmth from Zayn again.

Chapter 3

Stella didn't like me from the first moment she saw me.

At first, I thought she simply didn't like me, so I tried every way to please her, actively showed my kindness to her, and bought her gifts.

But I didn't expect that,

to put the blame on me, she actually killed her beloved little white puppy.

That day she cried heart-wrenchingly while holding the little white puppy covered in blood, and while crying she accused me of why I killed her dog.

She cried so heavily that she couldn't catch her breath and almost suffocated herself.

Seeing this, Zayn, who had just returned home, rushed her to the hospital.

Stella already suffered from congenital heart disease, and after this "blow" from me, her heart condition became even worse.

It was so serious that it required a heart transplant.

And my beloved Zayn firmly believed that her dog was killed by me.

He forced me to apologize to her.

I refused with grievance and went back to the bridal chamber alone stubbornly.

Zayn stayed in the old house to take care of his adopted sister who might die of illness at any time.

When he received a notification from the hospital that there was a suitable heart.

He was even happier than Stella herself.

He thought it was God's blessing.

But he didn't know that Stella had already set her sights on me.

The heart inside his sister was exactly what they had been looking for!

...

After seeing Stella, Zayn immediately got back to the case.

In order to find women who met the age requirements, they had to divide the work and go to the personnel bureaus in various regions to look for women's files.

Zayn pulled out the file and began to check it item by item.

When the mouse moved to the words "Joe Shane", he paused.

Joe Shane was my name.

I couldn't help but feel happy, thinking that he was finally going to find out that the dead person was me.

But after pausing, he continued looking for the next one.

My heart suddenly turned cold.

He probably thought that a woman as scheming as me would never disappear.

Just at this time.

The bureau called him and told him that they had an important clue.

Zayn rushed back to the bureau without saying a word.

A colleague handed him a transparent glass jar tied with a red ribbon with trembling hands, claiming that it had just been delivered by a local courier.

The glass jar was about ten centimeters high and contained a ring-shaped object.

Zayn frowned and looked at it, but did not recognize that it was the wedding ring he had once given away.

On the contrary, the policewoman who had cried red eyes at the crime scene recognized at a glance that the ring was most likely that of the deceased.

That's right.

The jar contained my wedding ring.

When the criminal chopped off my finger and took the ring away, he smiled and said he would give it to Zayn as a gift.

I didn't expect that they would actually do that.

They sent the ring to Zayn and also attached a provocative note: [Officer Louis, do you like this gift we prepared for you?]

When Zayn saw the note, his expression changed instantly!
