Chapter 1

Gavin Horne said he would marry me.

I died two hours before he married my best friend, Scarlett Reid.

When my corpse was discovered, it had rotted and reeked.

I saw him holding me in his arms and crying. Then he slapped Scarlett.

In a few days, he died too...

  ...

Floating in mid-air, I saw the Personification of Death appear in front of me.

Per him, I was with grievance either alive or dead, and he couldn't take me away.

Then he asked me who I hated most.

"The one I hate the most?"

I thought for a moment, wondering what it felt like to hate someone.

My words rendered the Personification of Death speechless.

  I said honestly, "I can't remember anything."

I lowered my head and looked down at a stinking ditch. Stretching out my fingers, I tried to squeeze the trash away from the ditch, but my fingers passed through it.

I glanced at my transparent fingers.

Oh, I remembered one thing. I was dead.

Before leaving, Personification of Death gave me a pen and a piece of paper. Per him, when I remembered who I hated the most, I would write down the name of the person on it.

If the one I hated the most went to hell, I could clear the injustice and go to heaven.

  I agreed.

Then I was sent to the one who hated me the most.

  It was Gavin.

A name popped up behind him.

  It was Scarlett Bradford.

There were two hours to go before Gavin and Scarlett got married.

I floated to the front of Gavin and found that he was indeed good-looking. His facial features were delicate, but he was too thin.

Then I looked at his cell phone screen.

He was sending a WhatsApp message to someone named Jack.

  "Did she say anything?"

  Then he withdrew.

Then he sent another message, “Tell her that I'm getting married soon.”

  Then he recalled it.

  I was confused.

I wondered why he had done so.

In the end, he sent a message, which read, "Tell her that I'll be back tonight."

After that, he muted his cell phone, got up, and went out without tidying up his wrinkled suit.

I wondered why such a good-looking man hated me so much. I dared not get close to him.

I floated above the wedding venue and looked down at the pure blue avenue.

  Memories flashed through my mind.

Gavin was sitting by a river in his school uniform, leaning against a girl. The girl pulled him to face the river surface to take a look at their faces.

Looking at the face of the girl in the river, he said gently, "What kind of wedding do you want?"

The girl had a high ponytail and looked cute when she smiled. She said, "What's up? Do you want to propose to me?"

He pursed his lips and agreed in a low voice.

The girl blushed, but she gracefully envisaged the wedding she wanted in the future.

Blue roses should be all over the whole venue. She wanted a white wedding dress with a long tail and a dripping diamond necklace representing love.

  Gavin said, "I'll remember it."

He promised firmly and resolutely as if he would mean his words.

I thought he would keep his word. After all, there was a red cherry hairband tied around Gavin's wrist, which was just like the one on the girl's head. What a little romantic scene.

But... what the girl wanted at her wedding was all ready.

But the bride was not her. It was Scarlett.

  Scarlett held Gavin's arm.

The two of them stood side by side in the center amid the blessings and cheers from the crowd.

They looked at each other and said expressionlessly, "I love you." "I do."

  The wedding was over.

Gavin couldn't wait to leave Scarlett behind and go backstage to pick up his cell phone.

Chapter 2

I floated over and saw that he was frowning. He called and said, "What do you mean that she is missing? Why don't you go find her?"

After hanging up the phone, he was anxious.

In the face of Scarlett, who had followed him backstage, he said indifferently, "Get out."

She asked, "Are you coming to our wedding house tonight... or to her place?"

He tightened his grip on his cell phone as he didn't answer. Then he made another call and said, "Get someone to check the surveillance cameras around this hotel. She should be..."

He sneered and said, "She should come to peek at my wedding."

As he spoke, he looked at Scarlett and asked, "Why are you still here?"

Tears welled up in her eyes. Scarlett said, "Do you care so much about her? Since you do, why don't you marry me instead? I have no value to you anymore."

Gavin said, "She doesn't deserve it."

His voice was full of disgust. After that, he turned around and went out to stand in the middle of the avenue. He tidied up his wrinkled suit as if he were waiting for someone.

An idea suddenly popped up in my mind.

He seemed to be waiting for me.

Then, another idea popped up in my mind.

  But he would fail.

Before it was dark, an old man appeared and dragged Gavin into a car.

I floated outside the car window and followed him to a villa.

It was his and Scarlett's wedding room.

On the first day of their marriage, their wedding night...

He didn't sleep in the same room as her. He sat alone in the living room and kept calling Jack.

Jack said he didn't find her.

Gavin, who had been anxious, looked angry and gloomy. In the end, he sneered and said, "Yesterday, she said that she would never run away for the rest of her life. Is this how she keeps her words? Liar! She is born as a liar. Her whole family are all liars!"

After that, he smashed his cell phone and turned to leave.

After a while, he came back, took out a sim card from the broken phone, and stuffed it into a new cell phone. Then he turned it on and called Jack. Flying into a rage, he said, "Go all out and find her no matter what."

A gust of wind blew past. I was transparent, but his roar made me tremble.

The heavy rain, a broken vase, the blood all over Gavin's hands, and the tears rolling down his face flashed through my mind.

Then, a thought flashed across my mind.

"It's the beginning of Gavin's painful life."

The next day, he was no longer in a rage.

He ate calmly with Scarlett and drove to see the old man after the meal.

I floated next to them and listened to their conversation. I then figured out the whole story.

Gavin's father had a car accident when he was in primary school. The operation failed, and he died. His mother committed suicide when he graduated from high school.

This old man was Scarlett's grandfather, who had single-handedly helped Gavin reach his current position.

The old man looked sharp, saying, "If you can't find her, give up. Live a good life with Scarlett."

Gavin held his cell phone without saying a word.

Scarlett tried to smooth things over and held Gavin's arm, saying, "Okay."

On the way back, Gavin remained silent.

"You haven't found her yet. She shouldn't be in this city anymore," she said. "You've taken revenge on her for so many years. It's time to let her go. Don't bring her back again."

Gavin's eyes suddenly turned red. He looked at her and said, "It's not enough. My parents died because of her! She ruined my family! Vivian Young should live miserably rather than die!"

  He mentioned Vivian Young.

I repeated the name many times and vaguely felt that it was familiar.

Chapter 3

In particular, various voices calling Vivian Young were floating in my mind, as well as... Gavin's.

  He called Vivian Young gently.

  He whispered, "Vivian."

I looked at the two silent people in the car and thought to myself.

"How come the way Gavin called out to Vivian changed now?"

  "Why did Gavin marry Scarlett?"

I followed the car back to the wedding room of Gavin and Scarlett. At midnight, I floated to the room of Scarlett, which was a wall away from Gavin's.

She was crying in a low voice.

"I regret it. I shouldn't have fallen in love with him."

I floated over. She looked at a girl in a photo in a daze.

It was the girl by the river, Vivian, who loved to laugh.

She stood with Scarlett and made a heart-shaped gesture with her hand on Scarlett's head.

"Vivian." Scarlett touched Vivian's photo and muttered, "I'm sorry."

I wanted to ask her if it was because she married the boyfriend of her best friend.

There was nothing to be sorry about. Marriage was a personal matter.

But I couldn't say it. I lowered my head to look at my transparent hands.

  I was dead.

In the evening, I floated beside the sleeping Gavin and saw him tightly clench his cell phone. As it vibrated, Gavin woke up, sat up, and asked, "Have you found her?"

  Jack said he didn't.

He was so angry that he almost crushed his teeth. Then he pulled his messy hair and muttered, "Where did she go?"

Jack said that he would continue to look for me.

Gavin waited in the wedding room for three days.

He and Scarlett had dinner together and said good night to each other politely. As usual, he was up all night.

I floated above him and waved my hands in front of his eyes. He only blinked once in a long time. Well, if it went on like this, he would die suddenly.

  He was up until dawn.

The next night, he took two sleeping pills, but he still couldn't sleep well. He loosened his grip on the cell phone.

Then he woke up and called Jack, saying, "Have you found her?"

"No, I've searched all the places I can find. Mr. Horne... Miss Young may have had an accident."

The cell phone slipped out of Gavin's hands and fell to the ground with a click.

Gavin went out of the wedding room and drove to a villa in the suburbs.

It was all withered, and there was no green around. The top of the villa was covered with a large area of dark tree shade, rendering it quite gloomy.

I floated around the villa and suddenly thought of the flowers all over the place and two chubby Garfield cats outside their wedding house.

For some reason, I knew that Vivian would like Scarlett's villa.

This secluded house in front wasn't Vivian's thing.

I followed Gavin into the house.

He rummaged through the surroundings frantically.

He took out a photo from under a pillow.

I floated over to take a look.

It was the young Gavin, a middle-aged couple who were smiling, and... a young girl, who was Vivian. They were all smiling happily.

The photo wasn't framed. The corners were rolled up as if someone had touched it many times.

Gavin was silent. I looked at his face and wanted to blurt out something.

  "Dad, Mom."

  But I couldn't say it.

Gavin sat down by the bed with the photo and muttered, "This is my parents, not yours."

As he spoke, he tore off Vivian's smiling face and threw it to the ground. Then, he put the remaining half of the photos of him and his parents into his pocket.

Gavin sat in the villa till dusk and asked a man in black, "Have you found her?" Jack was here.
