Chapter 2

I couldn't be bothered to joke with him.

"So... Help me make an appointment for a physical examination." I stopped asking and requested instead.

Sam Smith refused. "No, now everyone is going through the formal procedure, and you can just make an appointment on the Internet, where you can find all reliable doctors."

I laughed at myself and lowered my head. "Oh, then forget it."

Friday was for the high school reunion. I went with Sam Smith, and Joseline Sampson was also there.

As soon as Sam and I entered the door, everyone focused on us.

"Sam Smith, Zoila Perry, why are you so late?" Every year, the class reunion was organized by the class monitor. When he saw us, he quickly came over to greet us.

Everyone saw that I was holding Sam's arm tightly, as if we were a loving couple.

But I clearly felt that there was an unfriendly look from Joseline Sampson not far away in the crowd.

I smiled with delight at her and then hugged him tighter.

At the dining table, Joseline Sampson specially came to Sam Smith and said, "Sam, since you’re working in the hospital, can you help me make an appointment for a physical examination?"

Sam Smith paused obviously. He put down his chopsticks and smiled. "Why did you come to me for that?"

"Well, I was just thinking that it would be more convenient when you work in the hospital. We've known each other for so many years and can’t we be friends instead of lovers?"

Joseline Sampson didn't care about the strange looks at the dinner table at all and said, "Okay? It's just a small favor. I haven't seen you for three years, and you will help me when you come back, won’t you?"

I caught a glimpse of his clenched fists under the table and withdrew my gaze silently.

The next second, Sam's voice rang out in the private room.

"Okay, I'll make an appointment on Monday for you, and I'll recommend you some doctors then."

"Thank you so much. Dr. Smith is so considerate! Anyone who marries you is so lucky! Unfortunately, I don't know when it'll be my turn."

As she spoke, she kept glancing at me.

I hung my hands on the table and stared at the remaining cold meat on the plate. It tasted insipid in my mouth.

The moment Sam Smith agreed to Joseline Sampson's request, I felt a burning pain on my face.

He made feel ashamed.

I couldn't be bothered to argue with Joseline Sampson, so I turned to look at Sam Smith, who was helping her make an appointment for a physical examination.

After a long time, I said softly, "You can help her with the physical examination,, but you can't help me, right?"

Sam didn't hear the sadness in my tone.

He just paused and turned his head in confusion. "Didn't I ask you to make an appointment two days ago? Didn't you do that?"

I shook my head.

"You can do it next week, because they’re all engaged this week."

All of a sudden, my eyes were moist. I lowered my head to look at the plate, but I couldn't eat anything.

This week's physical examination doctors were all engaged but Joseline Sampson could still help Joseline to make an appointment.

As Dr. Smith's wife... I was refused completely.

Well, how ridiculous it was!

After getting married to Sam Smith for three years, I finally felt that there was a whole world gap between us.

It turned out that he couldn't feel my emotions at all, nor could he detect the changes in my body.

At this time, the atmosphere at the table was a little strange.

Seeing that the atmosphere was not right, the class monitor quickly came out to mediate.

"Well... Sam Smith, it was you who introduced my father-in-law to the doctor in your hospital last time. I haven't had time to thank you properly. Come on, let me propose a toast to you."

Chapter 3

I picked up the cold dishes on the plate and thought about what Joseline Sampson had just said.

Marrying Sam Smith was a blessing?

Did she want to get this blessing?

She would get it, because I was dying.

"After I die, she will have a chance.

That night.

I sat on the sofa and did my work before I resigned, while Sam sat beside me and watched TV with his arms around my waist.

It was raining heavily outside. The bean-sized raindrops hit the window, and the lightning and thunder were a little scary.

He knew that I was afraid of such weather, so he let go of me and closed the curtains.

"Don't be afraid," he said.

I felt warm in his heart.

"I think that even if he doesn't love me, his marriage life for so many years will still make him have some feelings for me, even if it's kinship."

Could I have misunderstood him?

Suddenly, Sam Smith's phone on the coffee table rang. I glanced at it and saw that the caller ID only showed some letters of "Sampson".

I didn't move.

When he came back and saw the caller ID, he looked a little unnatural.

He glanced at me, his fingers hanging above his phone. He didn't know if he should answer the phone or not.

I smiled at him, got up, and walked to the bedroom. "I'm tired. I'm going back to rest."

"Sam."

"It doesn't matter. Pick it up."

I closed the bedroom door and leaned against it, my heart racing.

Because of my illness, I had been getting more and more painful on my head recently.

But at this moment, my heart seemed to hurt even more.

After a while, Sam came in and handed me a glass of water. He looked at me apologetically.

"Zoila Perry..."

I suppressed my discomfort and asked, "What's wrong?"

"Joseline Sampson said that she was driven out by the landlord and has no place to live now."

I was feeling a little angry and asked him: "Are you going to get her here?"

"No, she's not very familiar with this city after returning to the country. I'll take her to a hotel."

As he spoke, he put on his clothes. Seeing that I didn't drink water, he looked up at me and said, "Drink the water."

I didn't.

Before Sam Smith left, he turned to look at me, who was standing at the door of the bedroom, and hesitated.

"Go ahead." I smiled.

Was he looking for a hotel for her? That was ridiculous.

Everything now could be done on the phone now, but how couldn’tJoseline Sampson even book a hotel?

I couldn't be bothered to expose him. Anyway, he wouldn't listen to me.

Besides, I didn't have the strength to argue anymore. I needed to rest.

"Zoila Perry, I..."

"It's okay. Go ahead." I waved my hand. "I'll wait for you to come back."

"I’ll be back to bring you a gift."

Sam Smith pursed his lips and finally went out.

The moment the door was closed, the cup in my hand slipped to the ground.

My hands trembled and I bit my lips tightly.

I couldn't even hold the cup firmly now?

In the next three hours, it was windy and rainy outside the window, and there was only the sound of TV in the room.

I accidentally cut my finger with the broken vase. It was just a small cut, but the blood couldn't stop flowing.

In the latter half of the night, bruises began to appear on my body, and my menstruation was much more than before.

I didn't have much time left now.

At 3:30 a.m., Sam had not come back yet.

I sat quietly on the sofa, thinking about everything that had happened in the past three years.

In the past three years, he had done what a husband should do. He respected me and took care of me. Life was simple and peaceful and happy for us.

He was a good husband, but not a good lover.

Chapter 4

But no, he was someone else's good lover.

His care for me disappeared on the day Joseline Sampson returned to the counry, without any trace to be found.

As Joseline Sampson returned, it made him feel uncomfortable.

However, no matter how much Sam Smith loved Joseline Sampson, he would never cheat on her.

It was five o'clock in the morning. The rain stopped and the sky was bright.

He hadn't come back yet.

I suddenly lost my confidence.

He must have cheated on me.

I was getting furious. My gums began to bleed, and my body lumps began to appear.

I couldn't tell if it was a tumor or something else bad, and it hurt a lot.

Standing in the bathroom, I stared blankly at myself in the mirror. I became ugly overnight.

I touched my protruding eyeballs.

I didn't seem to recognize this person. Was this myself?

At 10 o'clock, Sam Smith came back.

I took care of my body before he came back. He didn't see anything unusual.

He brought me a cake from my favorite cake shop before.

He came out of the bathroom and held me tightly in his arms.

"Honey, I'm sorry."

My heart skipped a beat.

He rarely called me his wife.

"What's wrong?"

Sam Smith rubbed his head against my neck. "The car broke down last night and I couldn't come back, so I stayed in that hotel. I went to repair the car this morning before I came back. Don't worry, I slept on the carpet."

I pursed my lips. "Ok, I believe you."

People who were about to die would not care about such a clumsy lie, because it was meaningless.

"Next month is our wedding anniversary. Where do you want to go this year?"

"Let's talk about it later."

Suddenly, he lifted my arm and flipped through it. "Why are there bruises on your arm?"

I left his embrace and looked at him.

As expected, he just looked at it and didn't take it to heart at all. "It should be a bump. I'm going to work now. Do you want me to send you a ride?"

I suddenly stopped and turned to look at him calmly.

Sam Smith was puzzled. "What's the matter?"

"Sam Smith, I've given you many chances."

I told you that I'm sick. I asked you to arrange a physical examination for me. You saw that I've lost weight, and you also saw the bruises on my arm.

But you didn't listen to that. You don't care about me, and you don't even care about me.

In the past, as long as I felt any discomfort, you would take me to the hospital for an examination.

But now, there was only Joseline Sampson in your heart.

My dear husband, you're a doctor.

"You didn't even care about the physical condition of your wife, and you even didn’t ask me one more question.

If you do, I'll tell you the truth about my condition.

But you just didn't...”
