Chapter 3

After breaking up with Paul, I immediately blocked him.

Later, his roommate called me and said, "Maggie, why did you block Paul? After all, you two did love each other once."

I must have been out of my mind to pick up that call. I hung up right away.

But then, another unknown number called. Worried it might be something important, I answered again, only to find it was yet another one of Paul's friends. Rich people sure have a lot of friends.

There's no reason to stay in touch after a breakup. I never believed in that "let's stay friends after breaking up" nonsense.

After Paul realized that harassing me with phone calls wouldn't work, he finally backed off for a while. I thought he had moved on.

Recently, I've been working on an astronomy project with Doris, staying late at the library.

Doris, being the unreliable person she is, left early. As I walked out of the library, a hand suddenly grabbed me. Instinctively, I delivered a powerful spinning kick, knocking the person to the ground. Then I heard a pained voice say, "Maggie, it's me, Paul."

Paul got up from the ground, looking at me with a mix of sadness and frustration. He said, "Maggie, I had no choice but to break up with you. My family's company needs financing from the Smith family, so I have to be with Eden. But I love you. Please wait for me. Once I get engaged to Eden, I can secure the funding, and when my family's financial issues are resolved, I'll find a way to break off the engagement with Eden."

Suddenly, I felt a bit sorry for Eden. The man she snatched from me only loved the power she represented.

I said to Paul, "Paul, don't call me Maggie anymore. We're not that close now. Since you've chosen to be with Eden for the sake of your family, you should treat her well. Your behavior disgusts me."

With that, I turned and ran. Although there was hardly anyone around the library at that time, if someone had seen me with Paul, rumors would surely spread. So, I rushed back to my dorm in one go. When I got there, Doris was watching a romance drama and, seeing my state, thought I was being chased by a ghost.

A week later, Eden came to my school specifically to find me. She handed me an invitation card and said I was invited to her engagement party, which would be held during the summer vacation at the biggest hotel in A City, the Rosewood. She smugly told me that this might be my only chance in life to experience the Rosewood.

Seeing Eden's self-satisfied expression, I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for her. After all, her soon-to-be fiancé had recently told me that I was his true love. Though Eden was arrogant, manipulative, and self-centered, we were still both women.

Out of a sense of doing a good deed for the day, I said to her, "You might want to reconsider. Paul isn't good enough for you. He's only with you for your family's money."

Unexpectedly, Eden dismissed my advice with disdain. She said, "I know you like Paul, but he loves me now. Don't think you can drive a wedge between us by saying things like that. Besides, relationships among people at our level are mostly about money. It's called an alliance. You ordinary people wouldn't understand."

Well, I shouldn't have bothered being kind to Eden. I initially didn't want to take the invitation card, but Eden was so insistent that I eventually accepted it.

Chapter 4

During the summer break, I returned home, and once again, my dad tried to persuade me to study finance abroad so that I could help manage the family business in the future.

My mom, an artist, disliked such money-focused talk, and they ended up arguing.

I gave a reasonable suggestion. Since they're so energetic, why not have a second child now? They could have one to inherit the business and another to carry on the art legacy. After all, I'm a lost cause.

My parents looked as if they'd just had a lightbulb moment and immediately decided to reinstate my black card and restore my allowance to its original level. I regretted not suggesting this sooner. Who knew regaining my life as a rich second-generation would be so easy?

While the maid was helping me pack, she found the invitation card and asked, "Miss Maggie, where would you like me to put this invitation to Eden and Paul's engagement party?"

My dad, knowing Paul had been my boyfriend, asked, "Is the one getting engaged that little boyfriend of yours, Paul?"

I popped a grape into my mouth and nodded, "Yep, that's him. We broke up recently. He probably thought I was poor."

My dad couldn't believe I was dumped for being poor, but after remembering that my allowance had been cut, he seemed to understand. He then said, "My Maggie is so lucky. You saw through his unreliability early on. That's good. By the way, I heard you discovered a new asteroid."

My dad, who usually hated my stargazing hobby, was now bringing it up. It seemed like he was trying to cheer me up. But honestly, I wasn't that upset. How deep could a relationship get in just six months? Besides, I love my universe far more.

I replied, "Yes, and it's even named after me, the MAG asteroid."

My dad said, "Such a significant discovery by my daughter deserves a celebration." With that, he started making phone calls, and soon I realized something was off. My dad had scheduled this so-called celebration on the same day as Eden's engagement party. I guess he's just as sly as I am.

I called Doris, "Doris, my dad is throwing me a celebration party for discovering the asteroid, and it's on the same day and at the same place as Eden's engagement party. Oh, by the way, I'm actually the daughter of Jeff."

Then I heard a barrage of accusations from Doris, "Your family is so rich, and you always made me pay when we went out! I thought I was doing a good deed."

I could only explain, "It's because I refused to study finance and got my allowance cut. You really were doing a good deed."

Doris expressed her sympathy for my situation and promised to attend the celebration party.

I knew she was actually eager to see Eden and Paul's reactions when they found out my real identity. She even planned to borrow her cousin to pose as my boyfriend, claiming that he had admired me for a long time but couldn't act on it because I had a boyfriend. She sent me a photo of her cousin.

I thought he looked familiar, but I didn't recognize him. I figured all handsome guys look alike, but I still declined Doris's suggestion. After all, I didn't know her cousin, so I couldn't pretend he was my boyfriend.

Soon, the day of the celebration arrived. I got to the Rosewood at 11 a.m. and saw Eden and Paul in the lobby. Paul hadn't expected me to come since he didn't know Eden had sent me an invitation. He hurriedly asked, "What are you doing here?"
