Chapter 1

My twin sister and I marry twin brothers from a powerful mafia family. She marries the elder, Leo Smith, a federal judge. I marry the younger, Sam Smith, a surgeon.

While I'm hospitalized for a high-risk pregnancy, I'm abducted by criminals demanding ransom. They use my phone to call Sam 32 times, but every one goes unanswered.

Enraged, one of the abductors beats my stomach with a baseball bat to vent his anger. I try desperately to protect my unborn child, but I lose the baby anyway.

Finally, the abductor calls Sam one last time. This time, he answers, only to snap, "Annie almost miscarried. I was just taking her for a checkup. Can you stop calling and trying to get my attention?"

With no ransom coming, the furious abductors tie me up and throw me into a swimming pool. Then, they leave.

Just as I'm about to take my last breath, my sister arrives and pulls me out. Seeing me almost dead from the miscarriage, she calls Leo in a panic.

But all she gets is a cold answer. "Currently punishing the man who nearly caused Annie Morgan's miscarriage. Do not disturb."

She tries to call the police, but her phone dies. With no other option, she drives me away herself.

On the way back, a sudden blizzard hits, and a landslide blocks the road. The car breaks down.

We're trapped and shivering in the cold. Thankfully, a forest patrol finds us just in time. We survive.

When we wake up in the hospital, the first thing that comes to us is that we have to get divorced!

When I woke up, I was lying in a hospital bed, my body aching from head to toe.

The pain was everywhere, but especially sharp in my lower abdomen. It felt hollow and empty—that was when I knew the baby was gone.

I picked up my phone and sent Sam Smith a message.

"The baby's gone."

I stared at the screen, waiting for a response, but the phone stayed silent. After a while, I typed another message.

"Let's get a divorce."

He still didn't reply.

Hours passed before he finally called.

When I picked up, I expected to hear his voice, but instead, it was Annie Morgan on the other end of the line.

"Lucy, don't be upset, okay? There was a robbery at the hospital and I got hurt. I couldn't find anyone to help, so I asked Sam to stay with me during my check-up.

"This is my fault. But please don't divorce him over this. Sam really does love you. You'll break his heart if you do this."

Before I could even respond, Sam snatched the phone from her. His voice was edged with impatience as he said, "Lucy, can you stop using the baby and the divorce to threaten me? Seriously, can you just grow up a little?

"Is your jealousy really this out of control? Annie was shaken up, and her pregnancy wasn't stable. I stayed with her for the checkup. Can't you show a little compassion?"

He was getting angrier with every word, practically yelling now.

I was stunned, tears rolling silently down my cheeks.

"Sam, I'm not lying. The baby is really gone," I whispered, my throat tight with emotion. "They took me during the robbery, and I lost the baby because you didn't answer their calls."

I was crying, desperate for him to believe me. But all I heard was a cold laugh on the other end of the line.

"Lucy, your lies just keep getting more ridiculous," he said mockingly. "I went to the ICU. The doctors told me you were fine. Stop playing the victim. I'm busy with Annie's prenatal checkup. Don't bother me!"

Then, in the background, I heard Annie trying to soothe him again. "Sam, don't be mad at Lucy. She probably made this up because she wants you to care more about her."

Sam snapped, "Stop defending her. She's pretending the baby died just to get my attention! What kind of mother does that?

"She's not worth your sympathy. Let her act all she wants! Let's see how long she keeps pretending when no one's watching!"

And just like that, he hung up.

I sat on the bed in a daze, the phone slipping from my fingers and landing on the blanket beside me.

My sister, Lily Gregory, who had been sharing the hospital room with me, immediately came over and wrapped her arms around me.

"Lucy, I'm so sorry. This is all my fault. I should've never let you date Sam. I should've stopped you from marrying him! He's a jerk!" Lily cried, holding me tightly as tears streamed down her face.

She knew how hard I had fought for this baby. After more than a dozen failed IVF attempts, I had finally gotten pregnant.

I was so scared of losing the baby that I checked into the hospital the moment I got the good news. I stayed there throughout the entire pregnancy, doing everything I could to keep the baby safe.

But in the end, I still lost the baby.

The pain in my chest was unbearable, as if someone had reached in and torn my heart out.

Sam had no idea that while he was fussing over Annie and making sure she wasn't too shaken up, I was being dragged away by robbers and beaten until I lost our child.

After dozens of calls to Sam went unanswered, the robbers lost it. They grabbed baseball bats and slammed them into my side.

As they beat me, they shouted in rage.

"If the Smith family hadn't destroyed my company with their dirty tricks, I wouldn't be drowning in debt!"

"If your husband doesn't wire us a billion dollars, both you and your baby are dead!"

I actually felt a moment of relief. This was just about money. Sam had plenty of it to pay.

But after torturing me, they called Sam again. This time, he finally answered. "I told you to stop bothering me with this nonsense!

"Annie's shaken up and at risk of miscarriage. I'm at her appointment right now! If you had any sense, you'd shut up and leave me alone!"

When the robbers realized the ransom wouldn't come, they lost it completely. They beat me until I blacked out.

"Sam ruined our lives! Now we'll make sure he knows what it feels like to lose his wife and child!"

They dumped me into a freezing pool and left me to die.

If Lily hadn't found me in time, I probably would have died.

Just then, the sound of her phone ringing pulled me out of my thoughts. It was her husband, Leo Smith, a federal judge.

She answered, and the coldness in his voice hit us both immediately.

"Lily, why are you lying for your sister? How can you say the baby's gone and try to blame Annie for it? Don't you know she's pregnant? Why are you picking on a pregnant woman?

"Tell your sister to stop saying divorce like it means nothing. Marriage isn't a game!

"And I already told you I'm in court handling Annie's case. Why do you keep calling? You're interrupting official proceedings. Can you take responsibility for that? You two are unbelievable!"

Lily was stunned. She tried to explain, but Leo had already hung up.

She held back her tears and took my hand, offering silent comfort. We looked at each other without saying a word, both seeing the same disappointment in each other's eyes.

I had gone through hell, but Sam didn't even care enough to listen.

Maybe this marriage was doomed from the start.

Sam and Leo never truly loved us. The only one they ever cared about was Annie.

Back when Annie left the country and abandoned the twin brothers, Lily and I stepped in. That was when they married us.

But now that Annie was back, everything had changed. They hovered around her constantly, did everything to make her comfortable.

Sam and Leo bought Annie a new house right next to ours. They even hired a personal caregiver to look after her.

Leo, a federal judge, personally handled her petty legal case, while Sam, one of the top surgeons in the city, started cooking healthy meals for her himself.

But they didn't care about us. They even gave us the cold shoulder.

Lily and I held each other in silent tears, our hearts heavy with pain and regret.

"What's the point of a marriage like this?" she asked through sobs, her tears falling hot onto the back of my hand.

Our marriages had been a cruel joke from the beginning.

And now, it was time to end it.

Chapter 2

Just then, my phone buzzed. It was a Facebook notification.

I tapped it without thinking, only to see a new post from Annie.

In the photo, she was smiling blissfully, her left arm hooked around Sam's and her right around Leo's. She looked like the picture of happiness.

"Surrounded by the two men I love most. Can't wait to meet my baby!"

Her caption was filled with pride, practically oozing smugness, as if she were flaunting her victory.

I felt a sharp pain in my chest, and the tears I had been holding back suddenly spilled over.

Annie was surrounded by love. But what about me? And what about Lily?

I had just lost my baby and was lying on a cold hospital bed. Lily had nearly frozen to death trying to save me.

Since she had been in the freezing environment for too long, the doctors said the damage to her uterus was irreversible. She would never be able to have children of her own.

We had suffered so much, yet our husbands didn't believe us and didn't even care about us!

Back when my twin sister and I married the Smith twins, our story made the front page of the Avalon Times.

Everyone said it was fate—the perfect match. Twin sisters marrying twin brothers sounded like something straight out of a fairy tale.

People sent us their blessings, calling it the most romantic story of the year.

But now? That fairytale had turned into something else entirely. Our marriages were far from perfect. They weren't even happy. They were devastating.

"Lily, look at Annie's post," I choked, handing the phone to her.

She glanced at it, and I saw a flicker of anger and disappointment in her eyes.

"How could she do this? This is too much," she said, her voice filled with helplessness and pain.

She gripped my hand tightly, as if trying to pass some strength into me.

"Lily, we can't go on like this anymore. Let's get divorced together," I said firmly, though I was sobbing.

She hesitated for only a second before nodding.

"Alright. Let's do it," she agreed. "There's no point in holding onto something like this."

That same day, we contacted one of the top divorce attorneys in Avalon. He was efficient and wasted no time. By the afternoon, the divorce papers were drafted and sent directly to Sam and Leo.

After confirming the emails were delivered, Lily and I exchanged a look. For the first time in a while, we both let out a long, tired breath.

But a week passed, and there was still no response. Not a word from either of them.

Eventually, I couldn't take it anymore. I called Sam myself.

"Sam, did you get the divorce agreement? When are you going to sign it?" I tried my best to sound calm, but the tremble in my voice gave me away.

His voice came through the line, cold and filled with anger. "Lucy, do you really have to push me like this? Annie's pregnant. Can't you just behave for once? What's the point of creating drama every single day?"

I heard Annie's voice chime in gently from beside him. "Sam, don't be mad at Lucy. She's probably just having a hard time.

"You know how emotional pregnant women can get. Maybe she's just trying to get your attention by bringing up the divorce. You should try to be more understanding."

She sounded like she was trying to smooth things over, but every word was calculated. She made it seem like I was just being dramatic, lashing out for attention.

When I heard her words, something inside me snapped.

"Don't even mention pregnancy to me!" I shouted, my voice breaking as tears spilled down again. "Sam, our baby is gone! Doesn't that mean anything to you?"

There was silence on the other end for a long second before Sam's voice returned, colder than ever.

"Lucy, stop being so dramatic! I'm sick of you using the baby to get my attention! Annie needs me right now. I don't have time for your lies."

His words cut through me like knives.

Then Annie spoke again, her tone soft and sweet. "Sam, maybe you should go be with Lucy for a bit. I'll be okay on my own. She seems really unstable right now. You're her husband. You should be with her."

Her words sounded kind, but every syllable felt like a slap in the face.

Before the call ended, I heard Sam say, "She's like this because she's spoiled. Just ignore her."

Then, the line went dead.

I sat there, unable to stop the tears from falling.

Lily reached for my hand. "Lucy, you haven't fully recovered yet. Please don't hurt yourself any more than you already have. I'll stay with you. Once you're discharged, we'll leave them for good. Okay?"

I nodded through my tears. "Okay."

The two weeks we spent in the hospital were the most painful days of our lives.

Not once did Sam or Leo come to visit us. They didn't even bother to ask how we were doing. It was as if we had vanished from their world completely.

Every day, we watched other patients being visited by family. Meanwhile, Lily and I had no one but each other.

At night, when the ward was quiet, I could hear Lily crying softly in the bed beside mine. She tried to hide it, but I knew how much she was hurting.

And I was hurting too. Letting go of someone I had once loved with all my heart was a kind of pain that never healed.

Finally, the day came when we were discharged.

But just as we were getting ready to leave, something stopped me in my tracks.

From outside the maternity ward, I saw Leo inside, holding a cup of hot water and carefully offering it to Annie.

Annie, lying on the hospital bed, was clinging tightly to Sam's arm. Her voice was soft, almost trembling. "Sam, I'm so scared. Giving birth hurts so much."

Sam gently patted her back and leaned close to comfort her. "Don't worry, Annie. I'll be right here the whole time."

"I found the best obstetrician for you to make sure everything goes smoothly with the delivery!" Leo nodded from beside them. "Don't be afraid. We're not going anywhere. We'll stay right here with you."

The three of them looked so harmonious.

Meanwhile, Lily and I stood on the other side of the hallway like forgotten shadows.

We held onto each other, watching them from a distance, feeling like outsiders in a story we were never meant to be part of.

My chest tightened, and the pain inside me surged again.

That was the moment we finally understood that Annie was irreplaceable to Sam and Leo. And we were just entertainment to pass the time.

Now that they had found the woman they truly wanted to protect, there was no room left for us.

Lily tightened her grip on my hand. I could feel how cold and shaky she was.

Chapter 3

In that moment, all hope inside me died.

"Lily, let's go home, pack our things, and leave," I said quietly.

She didn't respond, only gave a small nod.

On the way back, I scrolled through Facebook and came across Annie's latest post.

She had uploaded a photo of a newborn baby with a caption that read, "Welcome to the world, my little angel. So grateful to have Sam and Leo by my side."

In the picture, Annie cradled an adorable baby in her arms, her face glowing with happiness. Sam and Leo stood beside her, their eyes filled with affection.

In the comments, both Sam and Leo had left messages.

"Annie, you're incredible. Thank you for bringing such a beautiful baby into our lives."

"We'll love this child like our own."

Seeing that, I could no longer hold back my tears.

Lily and I had both lost our children, yet here was another woman parading her joy for the world to see.

And the kind of happiness she had... it was supposed to be ours.

The grief of losing my baby spread like a poison through my chest.

When we got home, I opened the door and stepped into what used to be our cheerful, love-filled house. The moment I crossed the threshold, my heart ached.

This was once the place where I pictured a future full of hope. Now, it was just a house full of memories I didn't want to face.

I began packing my bags silently, ready to leave this painful chapter behind.

Suddenly, the door swung open, and Sam appeared.

He looked surprised to see me, but his expression quickly shifted back to indifference.

"You're back? Where's that baby blanket you hand-knit before?" he asked. "Hurry up and find it. Annie needs it."

I turned to him, holding back my tears. "Sam, I made that blanket for our child. Every stitch was sewn by hand with love. How could you give it to someone else's baby?"

He frowned, clearly annoyed. "Why are you being so petty? Our baby hasn't even been born yet. I'll just buy a new one later. What's the big deal?"

He glanced around the room, and his irritation deepened. "Why didn't you clean up the place?"

His tone was full of blame, as if everything wrong in the world was somehow my fault.

"By the way, Lily and Leo are fighting again. Did you stir things up between them? Can you stop dragging other people into your drama? You're about to be a mother. Can't you act like an adult?"

His words were like knives, each one cutting deeper than the last.

I clenched my fists, digging my nails into my palms, trying not to let myself break down in front of him.

"I'm tired, Sam. Whatever it is, let's talk tomorrow," I said, turning away.

I walked into the bedroom and shut the door with a loud thud.

Leaning against it, I let the tears fall freely.

That night, I tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep.

Every time I thought about Sam and Leo's betrayal, a fresh wave of pain and despair crashed over me.

Finally, morning came. I got up early and began packing the rest of my things.

But when I opened the door, what I saw stopped me in my tracks.

In the living room, Sam and Leo were sitting with Annie and her newborn baby. The three of them were laughing and chatting like this was their home.

My chest tightened at the sight.

"What is she doing here?" I asked, unable to hold back.

Sam looked at me and said with his usual coldness, "Annie just gave birth, and she needs care. We talked it over and decided it's best if she stays here for a while."

"What?" My eyes widened. I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

"How could you do this? This is my home, not her hotel!"

"Lucy, stop making a scene," Leo said, frowning. "It's only temporary. Once Annie recovers, we'll find her another place."

I opened my mouth to object, but Sam cut me off. "That's enough. Annie and the baby are hungry. I'm going to make them something to eat."

He and Leo turned and headed toward the kitchen.

Annie glanced at me with a smug smile, then slowly walked over.

She lowered her voice and whispered, "You lost, Lucy. Sam and Leo love me now. You and your sister were just extras in their lives. They never really need you."

Then, she suddenly staggered and fell to the ground.

"Ow!" she cried, letting out a sharp scream. "Lucy, why did you push me?"

"Annie! What happened? Lucy! Did you hurt her?"

Sam rushed over, his eyes blazing with fury as he glared at me.

"I didn't!" I panicked, trying to explain, but he wasn't listening.

"Lucy didn't even touch her! She fell on her own..." Lily tried to step in, but Leo blocked her.

"You stay out of it! Stop lying to protect your sister!"

Right then, Sam's eyes dropped to my stomach.

"Lucy, where's our baby?" he asked, his voice suddenly low and sharp. "Why does your stomach look flat?"
