Chapter 2

I was completely stunned.

I never expected things to turn out this way.

Last night, I went out drinking with friends, and Chloe suddenly showed up with her boyfriend.

Her boyfriend, Vincent, is from the northeast and has a bold personality. The two of them sat down and had a few drinks with us.

After that, I don't remember anything.

I've been drunk before, but I've never blacked out like this.

I asked Chloe, but she just cried and said she didn't know anything.

Feeling helpless, I called one of the friends I drank with last night.

"You were pretty drunk last night. She said your wife would come pick you up later, so we left.

"Her boyfriend wanted to stay, but he got a call and had to leave for something urgent."

From what I heard, Chloe was sober at the time.

But how did we end up in a hotel bed together?

I wasn't so full of myself to think she was interested in me or had set me up on purpose.

Besides, I'd heard she and her boyfriend were about to get married. There was no reason for her to complicate things now.

My friend, noticing all my questions, asked curiously, "Why are you asking all this now? Did something happen?"

I couldn't exactly admit that I'd hooked up with my wife's best friend after drinking.

Awkwardly, I replied, "No reason, just asking."

The most important thing now was figuring out how to stop my wife from wanting a divorce.

We'd only been married for less than a year, and I thought we were perfectly in sync in every aspect of life. I didn't want to lose her.

As soon as I got to the front door, I saw all my clothes had been thrown outside.

I took a deep breath and rang the doorbell, mentally preparing for the yelling.

The door opened.

Ariella saw me, and she was angry.

She pointed to the pile of clothes on the ground and said, "I've packed your stuff. Take it and get out. I don't want to see you."

I pulled a long face. "Babe, I swear I was just drunk last night. I don't know how things got this way. Please, just give me one more chance.

"I'll do anything if you can forgive me. We've been married a year. You know what kind of man I am. I'm not the type to be unfaithful.

"Chloe's your best friend. Even if you don't believe me, you should trust her, right?"

Ariella wasn't listening to anything now that her husband and best friend had gotten together.

"It's because I trusted you both too much that I gave you the chance to hurt me."

She gave me an ultimatum. "Are you leaving or not? If you don't, I'll throw you out myself."

I could understand that she couldn't accept something like this right now.

If it were me, I wouldn't be able to just let it go either.

Helpless, I packed my things and went to stay at a nearby hotel.

Chapter 3

After that, I called Ariella numerous times, but she didn't pick up.

She didn't reply to my messages either.

I was anxious and didn't know what to do, constantly distracted at work.

I regretted drinking too much that day more than anything.

If I hadn't gotten drunk, none of this would've happened.

Besides, no matter how much I tried to recall, I didn't think I had touched Chloe.

I was desperately trying to figure out a way to fix things.

But Ariella had already made up her mind to divorce me.

My parents soon heard the whole story from her.

They stormed into the hotel, disappointment written all over their faces.

"Xavier, how could you do something like this? If word gets out, where will our family's reputation go?

"Ariella is a good girl, and you were the one in the wrong. If you can stay together, great. If not... don't mistreat her. We owe her that much."

Their words made me so ashamed, I couldn't even lift my head.

I was their only son. When I married Ariella, her family demanded an outrageous dowry of fifty thousand.

My parents didn't hesitate and gave up their entire savings.

They even helped with the down payment on our house.

All they wanted was for us to have a happy life together.

And now, not even a year later, we were already talking about divorce.

And it was all my fault.

Unable to vent my frustration, I called up a friend to drink away my sorrows.

I hardly ever drank, and I could count the number of times I'd gotten drunk on one hand. But, of course, the one time I did, it caused this mess.

Alcohol really does ruin things.

My friend saw me sit down, looking miserable, downing one drink after another, and couldn't help but ask, "Man, what's going on?"

I hadn't planned on telling him. After all, it wasn't exactly something to be proud of.

But after a few drinks, the words just poured out of me, and I told him everything.

My friend frowned after hearing the whole story. "Dude, do you think you got set up?"

I froze for a moment.

Honestly, when I thought about it, there were a lot of strange things about that night.

My friend said he had planned to take me home, but Chloe had insisted that Ariella was coming to get me, so they left me with her.

But how did we end up at a hotel? And how did my wife happen to catch us there?

I had no memory of anything after that.

Still, it was all just speculation. They didn't seem to have any reason to set me up.

I figured I'd just have to accept my bad luck and swallow the bitter pill.

But I never expected what happened next to completely shatter everything I thought I knew!
