Chapter 3

My dad looked at Alice with satisfaction. "You're the most sensible."

"Be my daughter. When you graduate and get a good job, I'll buy you a house!"

"As for Joyce, I'll take her as dead!"

Even now, he would grit his teeth when he mentioned me.

I forced a smile and was happy for my dad because I was really dead!

I died because of his adopted daughter, the orphan my family sponsored, Alice.

On the day of my accident, Alice sent me a message, telling me that she wanted to give me a piece of belongings of my mom. She asked me to meet her in an old warehouse in the suburbs.

Without thinking, I took a taxi there and found that the message was not sent by Alice at all.

She sat on the chair and pretended to be innocent as she pointed at the strong man next to her. "Sister, I'm sorry. He insisted on me sending you a message."

I felt that something was wrong before I came here and was not prepared because I didn’t suspect Alice and wanted to get my mother's belongings.

The strong man kicked me to the ground and took my phone away.

I lay on the ground, clutching my lower abdomen. His kick landed on my stomach, causing me to break out in a cold sweat.

  Alice looked at me expressionlessly.

"Tell me, how should I torture her?"

The strong man found Alice's expression very interesting, so he played with the dagger and asked her.

Alice thought seriously for a moment. "What do you want to do? Torture?"

  "Then you must be ruthless!"

"You have to destroy her face so that the police can’t confirm her identity."

"If you don't think it's cruel enough, you can deal with it later. I just don't know if you know how to!"

The strong man was shocked by her idea. After a while, he suddenly clapped his hands and said, "Wonderful! You're so cruel!"

When they asked her to leave, she suddenly turned around and said, "You have to make her lose her ability to move first. Her father is a policeman, and she has been trained!"

The man nodded and injured my ankles.

When I screamed, they laughed happily.

I ate leftovers in the warehouse and was kicked and beaten on the ground. Sometimes, they would torture me in various ways.

On the third day, they finally figured out how to destroy my face completely and beautifully.

"Tsk tsk! You got injured too early. Some parts of you don't look good!" The burly man felt a little regretful.

Just as he was about to do it, he suddenly thought of an idea. "Hey, I heard that your father is a policeman. Do you want to ask for help?"

"If your father comes faster than my knife, you will be safe and I’ll spare your life."

"If he can't... Then you deserve it!"

I knew that I couldn't be saved, but I still picked up my phone with hope.

It would be nice to say goodbye to Dad.

  But my dad hung up.

The second ring took a long time before it was answered. "Get lost! Don't disturb me!"

With that, he hung up again.

I stared blankly at my phone and laughed foolishly.

The strong man squatted in front of me and said, "Oh, I heard that your sister is going to attend the banquet. Your father is accompanying her to buy gifts."

"I've given you a chance. Don't blame me!"

"Blame your father for not loving you!"

As he spoke, he slashed down.

It took a long time for my blood to run out, and it seemed like I had been in agony for a century.

My soul felt numb before I stopped breathing.

The next day, my dad returned to his office.

His colleague asked him if he was going to pay his respects to his deceased wife tonight.

My dad looked at the phone for a while before he came to his senses and nodded.

I didn't know if he was thinking of me because I would send him a message every year asking him to take me with him.

He didn’t receive my message this year.

Auntie Barkley rushed in with flowers and questioned my father, "David! Can't you get in touch with Joyce?"

My dad's face darkened and he didn't say anything.

Auntieit Barkley and my parents had been good friends for many years, so she naturally knew our relationship. She said helplessly, "Joyce used to prepare flowers in advance to see Yvonne. I couldn't get in touch with her this time. I'm really worried!"

"Did something happen to her? Can you check it out!"

"She's an adult. I won't waste the police force for her!" My father's voice was cold, which made Auntieit Barkley speechless.

Chapter 4

Looking at the photo of my parents on my dad's table, Auntie Barkley held back her anger.

She knew too well about my father's feelings for my mother and knew that losing her was a huge blow to him.

"The most important thing is to live a good life in this world!"

"You've lost your wife, but do you want Joyce to lose both her parents? Yvonne loved Joyce so much. How can she bear to see you treat her like this?"

Auntie Barkley was a little sad. "David, Joyce is your only child. She was only 18 years old when Yvonne was gone. At that time, she would act like a spoiled child and ask for love. But now, Joyce is only 22 years old. She lost her smile and became silent."

"It was not Joyce's fault but the murderer’s!"

"You shouldn't put all the blame on a child. If you keep doing this to her, she really won't survive!"

I wanted to tell Auntie Barkley not to be sad. Death was a relief for me.

My dad didn't say a word. Auntie Barkley was in a hurry so she left first with the flowers. "I'll go to see Yvonne. I will tell her that you are hurting her daughter. Let's see how she scolds you!"

My dad looked at the photo on the table and sneered. "I hope Yvonne scolds me!"

As he spoke, he looked at his phone.

The last call I made was ten days ago.

He hesitated for a long time, but in the end, he didn't dial and got ready to work.

Dr. Lewis analyzed everything thoroughly and sorted out all the evidence.

My dad chatted with him for a while and sighed at the cruelty of the murderer.

"How much hatred did the killer have to hurt a little girl like that?"

"It's hard to say. It's just that I feel sorry for this little girl. I don't know when I can confirm her identity and find her family members."

My father thought for a long time. "Maybe it doesn't matter. We have verified the recent missing persons. There is no such a girl's family member to report."

Dr. Lewis said with some pity, "I hope it's just that the family members don't know, not that they ignore her."

My dad walked to the table where the evidence was placed and suddenly picked up a small bag.

  His pupils contracted violently.

There was an earring inside, which I had worn before I died.
