The Task:
Vala POV:
"I will try my best and make sure we emerge first before others." I said.
"Not just your best Vala, but your very best, don't make us fail." Queen Calfy spoke and stared at her sister before facing me.
Then here comes the blackmail.
"Without us you would not be alive today, without us, you won't survive this harsh world a day, without us, you won't be accepted anywhere. But we look after you, clothed and fed you since you came out of your egg and don't forget we patch up your egg when that evil Pula throws it against the wall, you own us Vala, you own us victory. Don't forget your place." Queen Calft told me.
Going down on my knees and I bowed before them, allowing my face to touch the ground.
"Thank you for looking after me all these years, I am very grateful for that. I am making you a promise that I won't fail in the task tomorrow and I also know my place."
"Good, go and rest, you have a long day tomorrow." Queen Alfy said and I stood up to my feet and left their presence.
I heaved out a sigh and went back to meet Pula. The guard was still there and was feeding her like I had instructed, a cup of water was besides him.
"Thank you." He didn't even wait for me to complete my statement when he nodded his head and bolted out as fast as lighting.
I chuckled and focused on Pula and try to feed her more apples which she rejected. "Are you full?" I asked and she nodded her head. "I have to rest for tomorrow." I told her and she tried to make some words. "Are you asking why?" She nodded her head again. "Tomorrow we are going to the arena and whoever wins will be accepted in supernatural school, so I have to rest my muscles to help my fellow lazy elves to win. See you soon." I told her and left her with the remaining apples in my basket.
I met Dew on my way to my room, she is the palace cook and the last person who isn't scared about my appearance.
"I heard you are going with the other elves to the arena Tomorrow, is it true?" She asked me as we started walking towards my room. She was holding a covered plate and from the aroma I know it is roasted chicken.
"Yes."
"You always help them to win Vala but what I find strange and surprising is that you won't follow them to the supernatural school or are you not interested in seeing other supernatural creatures than elves?"
"Dew, I have no reason to leave the land of Elves and besides I am forced to do this. Have got to win tomorrow so that you won't get punished by my two aunties." I replied to her.
"Why don't you just give it a try, I know you are going to be the first amongst the rest but at least give the supernatural school a try, don't dwell in the land of Elves forever."
"Why do you always persist that I should leave for supernatural school?" I asked her.
Dew is something else, she was the first person to tell me not to hold any grudge on Pula in her words:
"I see a lot of things Vala but I can't say it for fear of my life, but I can tell you this, Pula is the opposite of what the two queens had told you and if possible, find a place in your heart to forgive her and I pray that one day the truth will come out."
I had always pondered on what she meant by the truth but didn't push further.
"Just give me one reason why I should go to the supernatural school?" I asked, stopping to face her, which prompted her to stop and face me.
"Because you participated in the task and you won, you don't have to forfeit because you think they own your life Vala, wake up and face the reality." Dew tried to convince me but I wasn't.
"Dew, just save the strength and go and give the owner of the door his or her food, I have no interest in going to the supernatural school, not today or tomorrow, in fact forever." I told Dew.
"Actually the food is for you, when I heard you will be going to the arena tomorrow I had to quickly prepare you, this roasted t." She told me and gave me the plate of roasted chicken.
"Thank you Dew."
"Vala, just know that life doesn't stop for anybody, probably you might find the truth which I fear to speak." Dew told me, turn back and left me staring at her retreating back.
To be sincere with myself, I am much okay with not finding out this truth she always spoke of.
I shrug my shoulders and continue my way to my room to eat.
*******
The following day, I had already taken my bath and changed into one of my clothes.
I left my room and I saw my two aunties and those who had graduated from our Elves school, they were four of them.
Four of the best and brilliant students are always picked to compete in the task.
"Good morning aunties." I greeted them.
"I was about to send someone to call you." Queen Calfy said as she held her little daughter in her arms.
Princess Haera came to meet us, next year she will graduate from the elves school and I know for certain she would be pick even when she's dull.
"Let's go." Queen Elfy said and rubbed her hands together. A large flying mat flew to us and we stepped in and it flew us to the arena.
When we arrived, there were other supernatural creatures there, the Vampires, Wolves, Witches, Dragons and so many supernatural creatures.
My two aunties with Princess Haera went to sit with the rest of the king's, in that way, all the king's and the Lord's will be watching us.
I and the four elves went to stand in a line, me in front as their leader. The rest of the supernatural stood in their own lines with their teams and leaders in front.
"Thanks for coming, so let's get down to what brought all of us here. We caught a wild demon and put him inside that cave." The announcer said pointing at the cave in front of us, obviously it was magic they use in bringing the cave down to the arena. "Now behind the demon is the sword of King Galore which the demon guides. The task is simple, retrieve the sword from the demon and whoever team that brings the sword will be declared the winner plus the other two teams that followed will be accepted in the supernatural school."
I have no interest in going to the supernatural school. And I will do all it takes to retrieve King Galore's sword from the demon.
Winning And Revelations (Part 1)
Vala POV:
I twist my head to stare at my two guardians and their eyes spoke the same words.
'Don't you dare lose or else....'
I breathed in and out and waited for the signal.
"Go!" The announcer shouted and the race began.
I waited and allowed other supernaturals to enter the cave first, in that way they won't say I cheated.
"Vala, you stupid girl what are you waiting for? Enter the cave this minute." Queen Calfy yelled but I ignored her.
The other four elves with me can't go into the cave without me, being the leader, leading them so they waited but I could feel their burning aura behind me.
Once I and my team were the only ones outside, it was time.
"Let's go." I said and I started leading them into the cave.
Entering the cave, darkness greeted us. It was too dark for us to see what's in front of us. I stretched my right hand forward and the chain coiled around my it uncoiled itself and it floated in the air as the chain glowed red, bringing out fire which brightens in the cave.
The cave was supposed to suppress every power, that was how the task had been, but somehow, it couldn't suppress my chains around me.
"Are you not done yet Vala? The rest are getting ahead of us, we need to hurry before they retrieve the sword." One of the elves, a male, told me.
"Then kindly lead the way Mr ahead of us." I said and chain touched the wall, closing my eyes, I saw the whole of the cave, what was inside, the traps and finally where the Demon was being held. I opened my eyes. "Let's go." I said and I ran prompting others to do the same, my chain lightening our way.
I stopped when I faced six tunnels.
"Which one are we going to follow?" The only female apart from me, asked. We are five, three males and two females.
"This is tricky." I answered as I stared at each of the tunnels. I have seen the entire cave and the tunnels leading nowhere. That was why I said it was tricky.
"So what are we going to do, we can't lose to others. We always emerge first Vala, don't fail if not we are going to tell your guardians how you purposely delayed us--"
I zoomed out of the stupid male elf threat and slowly looked at the entrance of the tunnels. I saw something just at the top of a tunnel.
I walked to the first one and removed a black half diamond. I also noticed the rest of the five tunnels all have half of the black diamonds. I need to find the piece that fit the one I am holding.
"We need to find the piece that matches the diamond." I told my team, showing them the black diamond in my hand.
"Take one and join it together." The elf girl suggested.
"No, taking any of the diamond without finding it's real half, will take us to another place where the demon is not. So we need to find the real half from the five. But whoever set this, doesn't have brains, it seems they ran out of ideas." I explained as I walked to the fifth tunnel and took the half black diamond hanging at the top of it and joined it together with the one I was holding. It glowed as it joined together. I walk at the empty wall besides the sixth tunnel. "But to them, their idea will be hard to solve not knowing, they have a grandmaster who knows everything, me of course. And that was why they created a seventh tunnel which can be opened with this black diamond." I told them and placed the diamond in a hole I had earlier saw before seeing the half diamonds.
The whole diamond fitted the hold and it went in, and true to my words, a seventh tunnel opened and from it we could hear the growls of the captured demon.
"Tada." I sing out with a smile. I am always right, pen that down, always right. I have never made any mistakes when it comes to solving a problem. I moved back a little so that the six tunnels are facing me and I could see them. "There is a seventh tunnel here guys and the demon is in it." I shouted as loudly as I could and turned to face my team. "Let's go."
"Why did you tell them? You could have waited until we'd retrieve the sword from the demon before we tell them."
"Before they can reach here, we would have already retrieved the sword from the demon, so chill, you are not the one doing the hard work here." I told them.
We entered the tunnel and we started running.
The tunnel leads us to a larger cave where a tall and large demon is, I guess magic is at work again, how can a cave be so tall to fit this large and tall demon? At the entrance of the cave was blue light which blocked the ugly Demon's only escaping route. I saw the sword, hanging at the very rock ceiling. My chain coiled itself back at my right wrist as the fire went off.
I was the first to reach the blue light before my team came.
"How were you able to outrun us when you are fat?" The elf girl asked me as she and the other three male elves were breathing fast.
"Don't let my looks deceive you thin rope." I responded. "Let's get the sword." I told them and we entered the large cave, passing the blue light.
I noticed my team wasn't moving any more, they were stuck in one place. Going to meet the elf girl, I tried to shake her but she was not moving.
What is wrong with them? Did the demon cast a spell on them?
"I was sent here to give you this, my queen." A thick hoarse voice said behind me.
I turned around quickly only to see the Demon on his knees with a pendant.
"What did you do to my team?" I asked the demon as the chains on my both wrists started losing.
"I put them in a trace, they are imagining they are walking around here looking for the sword but they didn't know they are stuck in one place." The Demon answered. "For the rest coming here, I also slow them down."
"Release them this minute."
"Not until you collect this pendant from me."
"And why should I?"
"Don't you want to know who you truly are. I risk my life to get caught just so I would see you and give you this pendant. Do you think they would catch me that easily? The demon war made many of us run into hiding for many years until we heard a rumour of you. The girl who will help the elf win but will reject the offer to go to the supernatural school."
"And if I am not that girl?"
"Well another of my kind would be caught next year to meet her."
"I am not interested in that pendant of yours, I am here to retrieve the sword and we will be on our way out of the cave."
"You are a demon my Princess."
"You are mistaken I am an elf."
"Demon blood flows inside of you, even the chains around you have demon aura. Take this pendant and everything will be revealed to you, someone wants to meet you and he's going to tell you everything."
I ignored the demon, seeing he was spitting out rubbish and did not want to fight, I decided to bring down the sword and force him to release my team.
Weird that he doesn't want to fight.
"Why are you so less concerned about what I just told you. I risk everything and let myself be captured just to meet you and after meeting you, you are throwing my words aside? I guess you don't want to meet your mother."
I stopped right in my tracks and turned to face him, he was still kneeling them.
"What did you say? My mother is dead."
"Queen Elfy, your mother is still alive but being held as a prisoner in Galore dungeon. Take this pendant my Princess and you will understand everything."
I stared at the demon for a full minute before I started laughing. "Nice try, next time, try coming up with a believable lie."
