Chapter 1

When my biological parents came to pick me up, I was feeding the pigs.

They looked like they were very wealthy.

I asked them three questions.

If I become your daughter, will you support me in my studies

Will you compensate my parents who raised me

If I have conflicts with your daughter in the future, will you stand by me

After receiving affirmative answers, I went with them without hesitation.

It didn't matter to me if they loved me or not; what mattered was that they could provide me with a better education.

After all, parental love can be divided, but the knowledge in my head is entirely my own.

Shortly after I was born, my mom found me half-dead in the snow and took me home, naming me Kayla.

From a young age, I knew I was not my parents' biological child. My parents had reported it to the police and left DNA and contact information.

So, I wasn't surprised when my biological parents came for me.

The reason they waited twelve years to find me was that my biological mom didn't know the child she was raising wasn't her own.

A month ago, my biological mom took her daughter Lucy Stone for a checkup and discovered Lucy's blood type didn't match. After a paternity test, she found out the child might have been switched.

She immediately reported it to the police, and through the record of my parents' report back then, they matched the DNA and found me in the mountains.

However, my adoptive mother had no connection with my biological mom and had never given birth to a daughter. Lucy wasn't my adoptive mother's child.

My biological father said immediately that finding their daughter was enough. As for Lucy, they didn't know who her parents were, and since they had raised her for twelve years, they would continue to do so.

From the mountains to a grand mansion, I was deeply shocked.

As soon as I entered, Lucy, wearing a beautiful princess dress I had never seen before, handed me a half-worn doll.

Sister, I'm sorry. It's all my fault for taking your identity for over ten years. Please don't blame me. This doll is my favorite, and I'm giving it to you. I hope you like it.

Seeing that I didn't respond, Lucy started crying, Boo-hoo, Daddy, Sister won't take my doll. Does Sister not like Lucy Does she want to drive Lucy away

My dad quickly hugged the aggrieved Lucy and comforted her, Lucy, don't think like that. You'll always be Daddy's treasure, and no one can drive you away.

I clearly saw Lucy didn't shed a single tear and even raised her chin at me proudly.

When Lucy cried, my mom felt sorry for her too.

She stuffed the half-worn doll into my hands, Kay, look how much Lucy likes you and even gives you a gift. How can you make your sister cry

I didn't say a word. If she likes to pretend to cry, that's not my concern. I handed the doll back to her.

Also, may I know where I will be staying

I felt no waves in my heart towards their obvious favoritism since we weren't familiar with each other.

Besides, didn't my heart also favor my adoptive parents

If it weren't for the fact that my adoptive father needed a lot of money for his broken leg and my brother needed money for school, I wouldn't have so readily gone with my wealthy biological parents.

Now that I was gone, unable to help with the housework, my adoptive mother would have to work even harder...

Chapter 2

The luggage I brought only included two old T-shirts and a pair of jeans with altered hems, which were pitifully out of place in this lavish mansion.

Seeing this, my mom's eyes turned red with tears again.

Lucy quickly went to her room and brought out a pile of brightly colored princess dresses for me.

Sister, these dresses were bought by Mom and have only been worn once or twice. Since you don't have any dresses, you can have them all. If you don't like these, I have many more in my closet that you can choose from.

My mom praised Lucy happily, Lucy is such a good girl.

I smiled faintly and took out a slightly better T-shirt from my bag, handing it to her.

This T-shirt was given to me by a neighbor's sister, and I've only worn it a couple of times. Now, I'm giving it to my sister. Or you can choose from these two. If you want, I can even give you the one I'm wearing.

Lucy's lips quivered, her eyes turning red, and she cried to my mom, Mom, I just wanted to give my sister dresses. How could she insult me like this Does she not like me...

When Lucy cried, my mom felt sorry for her again.

Kay, how can you give your worn-out clothes to Lucy—

She suddenly stopped mid-sentence.

Yes, she praised Lucy for giving me her old clothes, so why was it an insult when I gave my old clothes to Lucy

To show her motherly love, she decided to take me shopping for new clothes.

Of course, to show that even with a new biological daughter, she wouldn't be biased, she brought Lucy along too.

Our family was in business and very wealthy. Lucy had been pampered with luxurious clothes and food since she was little.

But being from the mountains, I never knew that a piece of clothing, a skirt, could be sold at such high prices!

I casually glanced at an ordinary T-shirt which shockingly costs over a thousand bucks!

You have to know, after much hardship rearing pigs, a whole year would only earn me a few grand per pig!

The dress Lucy was trying on cost close to ten thousand dollars!

Kay, do you see anything you like Try anything you want. If you like it, Mum will buy it for you.

Lucy, holding my mother's hand, said, Yes sister, you have been so poor in the mountains and probably never worn such beautiful clothes. Go ahead and choose.

Finally, I switched to a cheaper store, picked out some relatively cheaper T-shirts and jeans which cost hundreds for each piece, and it was heart-breaking.

I held the receipt in my hand, spent a good while calculating the price difference between my and Lucy's purchases.

She spent over thirty thousand more than me!

My god! I'd never seen so much money!

How many pigs did I have to rear before having so much money

Mum, you said you would not be prejudiced, right

Yes, you and Lucy are both my darling daughters. I treat you both equally.

So the total price for the clothes should be the same, right

My mother choked, looking at me with confusion.

So the extra money she spent, you should transfer to me. That's fair, right

Chapter 3

School started in September, and my mom managed to get me into Lucy's school to attend 8th grade, in the same class as Lucy.

As soon as I entered the classroom, I noticed the strange looks from my classmates.

During the break, a few of the more daring students asked me, Kaya, we heard you were quite poor before and lived in the mountains, even raising pigs, is that true

Everyone pricked up their ears, some curious, others scornful, a group even sneered and said, No wonder you smell like a pig.

Lucy came over and held my hand, saying affectionately, You better not bully my sister. Although she used to raise pigs and her family was poor, wearing clothes that others didn't want, she is now living in my house. My mother spent a lot of money to buy clothes for her. Once she's clean, there will be no smell of pigs!

Ah Living at your place Lucy, is she a beggar Why does she have to live in your house

Yeah, Lucy, why do you call her your sister Is she a poor student sponsored by your family

Why does she spend your mother's money, isn't she shameless!

...

I looked at Lucy's proud face and loudly said, Thank you for your concern for me.

It's true that I used to live in the mountains, and my family was poor, so I raised pigs to earn money. We could also catch chicken, capture larvae to make windmills, lobster and roast sweet potatoes – my roast sweet potatoes were so tasty!

The reason I lived in the mountains is that Lucy and I were switched at birth. Now, Lucy's mom is my biological mother, we don't know who Lucy's real parents are. As my mother has raised Lucy for over a dozen years, she decided to continue to raise her.

So Lucy and I are sisters with different fathers and mothers, Lucy will continue to live in my house for now. So, please don't be prejudiced against Lucy!

There was a moment of silence around us.

Gradually, someone quietly discussed, So Lucy has taken Kaya's mother, making Kaya suffer in the mountains.

Kaya is so pitiful, her mother was taken away from her, and she suffered a lot.

Yeah, Lucy is so shameless.

Hey Kaya, can you tell us, can that worm really be made into a windmill

What is a roasted sweet potato

Is the chicken in the mountains different from the chicken we eat

...

The children in big cities live in ivory towers, so the things I was telling them were fascinating to them.

I was held up by several students sharing interesting stories from the mountains until the bell rang for class. They returned to their seats reluctantly.

Lucy saw that smearing my name didn't work and had even made me friends with some students, which embarrassed her. She was glaring at me with a look that could kill.

I wasn't interested in whether she hated me. My grades had been the top in the county, but here at the city school, they were not worth mentioning.

I valued this hard-earned opportunity to study, learned every minute, and hungrily absorbed knowledge.

I understood one lesson knowledge changes fate.

Especially for children like me from the mountains, education is the only way to change our fate.

Fatherly love and motherly love can be shared. Only the knowledge in my head truly belonged to me.

However, there are always things that stand in the way.
