Chapter 1

On the day of the engagement party, Lucas Rothschild casually put a can pull ring on me as a ring.

He turned around and hung the wedding ring worth tens of millions on the dog raised by his white moonlight.

I didn't want any, but he pointed at my nose and scolded me: "Sophia's dog is sick and needs comfort. What's wrong with using a small toy to cheer it up?"

"My family has raised you for ten years. You eat my food and wear my clothes, but in the end you're trying to steal things from a dog? You country bumpkin are not even as good as a hair of it!"

Without saying a word, I threw the pull ring in his face and turned away.

He was furious, "If you leave me, you won't even be able to live in a doghouse."

Three years later, at a charity auction in Portville, I was soaking wet and lying in a stinky ditch playing with stray cats.

Lucas passed by with the glamorous Sophia Delaney in his arms, and kicked me away with disdain, sneering and mocking: "You were jealous of a dog back then, and now you're not going to follow Sophia's example and raise a stinky cat to beg for my forgiveness, are you?"

"If you kneel down and beg me now, maybe I can give you a dog leash and tie you up at home to guard the house."

I didn't even raise my head. The cat that my little ancestor had secretly fed for three months had just been thrown into the sewer as garbage by his father's bodyguard.

I have to take the kitten back before he gets angry.

I lay half-lying in the smelly ditch. I didn't care about the dirt and reached out to touch a dark shadow huddled in the corner.

"Sylvia Vanderbilt, I'm talking to you, do you hear me?"

Lucas drawled, staring at me in disapproval.

"Why, you were the only one who loved jealousy back then, wanting to snatch everything from Sophia, what kind of self-torture trick are you playing now?"

"You want to ask me to come back? No way!"

"Sophia and I are getting married soon, and I wonder if someone is regretting it."

His deliberately raised voice echoed outside the empty banquet hall, full of pleasure.

As soon as he spoke, Muffin, who I was about to catch, immediately shrank back, with all its fur standing up, and it hunched its body alertly to prevent me from getting close.

I looked back at him, and he was still looking down on me as before.

The moment their eyes met, Lucas was visibly stunned, and then quickly let go of Sophia's hand.

Before I could speak, the people around me started laughing and talking in low voices.

"Sylvia? Lucas, this stinking cleaner must be your ungrateful ex-fiancée."

"You deserve to be reduced to this state! A country bumpkin wants to become a phoenix? Only a talented woman like Sophia is worthy of Lucas."

"That's right. Lucas has been enjoying great success in both his career and love life recently. Not only has he set a date for his wedding, but he is also going to work with the richest family in Heir of Hayes Dynasty. Who would be interested in a beggar like him now?"

Sophia took Lucas' arm and looked at me with a smile: "Sylvia, this is a charity dinner. The smell on you can kill everyone in the room. You should leave now."

She covered her nose in disgust and kicked away the stinky bucket next to me.

As they started to make a fuss, Muffin ran further and further away.

I anxiously leaned half of my body inside.

"Sylvia, don't you understand what I'm saying? My sister told you to get as far away from me as possible! If you don't leave, I'll call someone to throw you out."

Ethan Delaney grabbed my wrist and dragged me out forcefully.

I shook his hand off, wiped my face, and tried to remain calm: "I'm looking for my cat. I'll leave when I find it."

He scoffed, "Looking for a cat? I think you just want to sneak in and steal something, and you want to attract the attention of my brother-in-law!"

"But my sister is going to marry into the Rothschild Estate soon. Forget about it. My brother-in-law will never come back to chew on you, a second-hand grass."

Chapter 2

"Stop talking."

Lucas interrupted him unhappily.

Ethan withdrew his hand awkwardly, and the others jokingly said, "Is Lucas going to feel bad?"

Sophia's expression suddenly changed, and a hint of hatred flashed across her eyes.

I lowered my eyes and glanced at her belly.

I was a little confused, but I recognized with my sharp eyes that the heirloom ring from Rothschild Estate on her hand was a fake.

I couldn't help laughing out loud.

Sophia has been doing worse than her dog in the past three years.

But Lucas loves her so much, how could he bear to let his white moonlight suffer such injustice?

When Lucas heard me laughing, he probably thought I was being sentimental because of what someone else said.

He looked down at me and explained:

"I'm overthinking. How could I possibly feel sorry for her?"

"She is just a dog given by my Rothschild Estate."

"Sylvia, don't be too happy too soon, and don't even think about using the cat to beg for my forgiveness. No matter what you do, I will never fall in love with you."

He took out a thick stack of banknotes and threw it lightly into the dirty water at my feet.

"I don't like this kind of self-deprecation either. This money is enough for you to buy ten wild cats. Pick them up and disappear from my sight."

I rolled my eyes and said calmly, "Lucas, don't be so sentimental. I don't love you anymore."

Lucas was completely enraged by my attitude of ignoring him, and a look of extreme impatience appeared on his face.

He took out his cell phone and swiped it twice quickly, then looked at me in disbelief.

"Sylvia, you blocked me?"

Then, Lucas nodded as if he understood something.

"I see. Is this your trick of playing hard to get? Unfortunately, I won't be fooled."

I was too lazy to explain to him that three million dollars was not enough to cover Muffin's monthly expenses.

"Lucas, we've broken up, isn't it normal for me to block you?"

"You have to understand that the correct relationship between ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend is to not disturb each other."

I looked at him meaningfully and spoke slowly.

Lucas’ WeChat and phone number were blocked by his family member himself.

He got very angry with me and it took me a long time to calm him down.

Lucas's expression darkened and he clenched his fists.

Sophia bit her lip, her eyes were red, as if she had suffered a great injustice.

"Sylvia, I know you're still bothered by what happened back then."

"But I really can't blame Brother Lucas at the time. After all, we raised Duke together for five years. He just wanted me to be happy. I didn't expect you to misunderstand him."

"But it's all in the past and we can't go back. We will invite you to our wedding. Please stop pestering Brother Lucas, okay?"

Seeing this, Ethan sneered and pushed me.

"The rotten bones that come out of slums are just cheap! She used to be the mistress, why are you still rushing to be the mistress now!"

My lower back hit the protruding pipe behind me, and I gasped in pain.

Lucas reached out his hand quickly and pulled me out.

He looked at me, wet and covered in mud, with pity in his eyes, and his tone softened a little.

"Back then I just wanted to play a joke on you, but I didn't expect you to care so much and be so vain. I just wanted you to play along..."

As soon as he said this, the sense of absurdity almost overwhelmed me.

Three years have passed, and he still thinks I did it for the money!

I was so angry that I laughed.

Chapter 3

That nightmarish engagement party simply trampled underfoot my personality and dignity and crushed them.

For the next three months, I didn't dare go out or see anyone, for fear of hearing my name mentioned by anyone.

Ten years ago I was adopted by the Rothschild Estate and was rejected by everyone.

Only Lucas was different. He beat up the people who bullied me and protected me like a little hero.

In order to repay him, I tried my best to persuade Sophia to accept Lucas's confession.

They were together for five years, and finally Sophia and her family moved abroad, and she cruelly broke up with Lucas.

After Lucas fell into despair, he began to pursue me vigorously.

I was young then and it was easy to be moved.

It was not until Sophia returned to China in a high-profile manner that Lucas became busy and gradually even stopped going home.

I even thought about giving him another chance.

But I saw the prenatal examination report sent by Sophia with my own eyes.

Thinking of this, I still feel a little choked.

"Lucas, put away your inexplicable sense of superiority. I don't want to go back to you at all."

"I'm married and have children, and we are a happy family of three!"

"Sylvia! Shut up! Who would want someone as shameless as you..."

Lucas pulled me so hard that I staggered and almost fell on top of him.

He pinched my chin and forced me to look up.

I clearly saw his pupils suddenly shrink, and the angry, controlling expression on his face froze in an instant.

"My husband is narrow-minded. I advise you to let me go immediately. If you offend him, you will suffer the consequences."

"What did you say? What tricks are you playing?"

I don't want to waste any more time talking to him.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Muffin shivering as he went deeper into the pipe.

Just as she was about to break free, Sophia screamed and fell into Lucas' arms.

Lucas subconsciously protected her.

There was another burst of laughter all around.

"Lucas, don't believe her. She probably found a poor guy to take over the child. She might not even know who the father of the child is."

Lucas smiled and nodded thoughtfully.

"Are you inspired by the fact that Sophia and I are getting married? Are you planning to trick me into a fake marriage?"

I broke free from his hand and quickly grabbed Muffin and held it in my arms.

I comforted the shivering little girl while looking at Lucas, "You are so dramatic."

Now that Muffin has been found, the little ancestor will be happy.

I breathed a sigh of relief and quickly stepped out of the stinky ditch.

Those who were watching the fun covered their noses.

I smiled and was about to leave, but before I took two steps, Ethan grabbed me.

"Don't go! I know this stray cat."

“That's the heir of Hayes Dynasty's cat from his social media”

"Tell me, why did you sneak away Alexander's cat?"

The faces of the people around me changed, and dozens of eyes were fixed on the cat in my arms.

"This is the cat I have been feeding for three months. How did it become someone else's?"

Ethan crossed his arms, sneered, and nodded thoughtfully: "I was wondering why you were here, it turns out you secretly ran to Hayes Family to be a nanny."

"What is your purpose? For the Hayes Family Heir of Hayes Dynasty? Then I can only tell you not to dream."

"Heir of Hayes Dynasty has already married and had children. He is a perfect match for you. You are not even worthy of shining his shoes."

Lucas's brows relaxed. "Sylvia, don't lose face just to curry favor with the rich and powerful."

"For all the years we've been together, I'll give you a living. You quit your job now and come back with me to work as a nanny at Rothschild Estate."
