Chapter 1

On our wedding night, my wife led my younger brother onto our marital bed. He was wearing nothing but his underwear. She expected him to consummate our marriage in my place.

"Sweetheart, I feel awful about your legs and what the doctors said about your infertility," she said softly. "Elliot will just have to help us for one night."

My face hardened as I stepped forward. I was ready to throw Elliot Charlton out of the bedroom.

However, my parents immediately sided against me.

"You're the one who can't fulfill your role as a husband," they said sharply. "Elliot is willing to sacrifice himself so that you can have a child. What's wrong with that?"

Even my brother laughed at me. He said I was not a real man and told me to accept things while I still could. According to him, I should be thankful to gain a son without doing anything.

They even suggested that I stay and watch, claiming it would prove the two were only trying to conceive a child and nothing else.

I clenched my teeth until my jaw ached, then turned and called my wife's greatest rival.

"You win," I said quietly. "The Wallace family's investment will be transferred to your account tomorrow."

After ending the call, I raised my eyes and looked at Janet Wallace.

"You share his bed tonight," I said. "Tomorrow, we get divorced."

"All this because I got Elliot to step in for you?" Janet's smile turned upside down. "I just want to give you an heir to strengthen the Wallace and Charlton families! And I even said you can stay while I'm with Elliot. What are you worried about?

"On our big day, are you really going to make a scene over nothing?"

"Over nothing? Janet, no man in the world can stand to watch his wife with someone else!"

I held on to my wheelchair, my voice cold as ice. "And I don't need a kid to make a business deal work! If you want a child, we can wait. You don't have to do it with Elliot!"

Elliot strutted up to me in just his underwear, showing off with a sneer on his face.

"Hey, you can't even walk, and the doctor says you can't have kids anymore. Let's face it, you can't make a baby happen," he said with a laugh. "Thinking you can is just fooling yourself."

I felt a flash of anger as his eyes darted to my legs.

"Why's my doctor telling you all my business?" I asked.

Elliot stiffened, and I just shook my head, not impressed.

Mom and Dad saw us and pushed my wheelchair aside, pulling Elliot to safety.

They were angry with me. My dad snapped, "Your brother's only worried about you, and you accuse him of having bad intentions. How did we raise someone so ungrateful?

"If you can't have kids, it's not just Janet who suffers. You'll anger the Wallaces too. Do you really think this marriage is a joke? Today, I'm making the call. Janet and Elliot will spend the night together!"

"You don't get to decide," I said firmly.

I brushed off the footprint on my knee and looked at Janet. "It's your choice. Kick Elliot out, or we're done."

Janet bit her lip, torn between Elliot and me.

Elliot went pale, grabbed my foot, and started his act. "Yale, don't do this! If you divorce, I'll be the one who messed up the Wallace-Charlton alliance! Don't mess this up for me! If you're worried, I'll hurt myself after tonight!

"I'll do anything to keep Janet from a sad, lonely life!"

He hit my leg like he was in pain and grabbed a knife from the table.

Janet's eyes widened in shock.

In a flash, the knife Elliot held was ripped from his grasp and flung out, piercing into the wall right behind me.

Janet's gaze was icy, her lips barely moving as she said, "Tonight, nobody's going to make Elliot leave my bed! From now on, he's your sweet little brother by day and mine by night!"

I saw how fiercely Janet stood up for Elliot, and it left a sour taste in my mouth, but all I could say was, "Okay."

Chapter 2

My friends were in an uproar in no time, whispering and snickering among themselves.

"Let's be real. If it weren't for your brother and your wife, we wouldn't give a hoot about a lame guy like you getting hitched. Better say you're sorry, and fast. Everyone knows you bent over backward to marry Janet. If you can't have kids, you won't be able to handle the Wallace family's fury."

Everyone thought I was lucky to marry Janet, like I had reached for a star.

However, the truth was, the Wallace family was falling apart, and it was Janet who begged me to marry her. She was the one I adored.

When she looked upset, I rushed to bail out the Wallace family with all I had. When she smiled, I snapped up any fancy watch she wanted without blinking. When she asked, I got her the best bodyguards, no questions asked.

However, after she met Elliot, things took a turn. She started using my money to spoil Elliot with a fancy house. She handed over that pricey watch to him, to make him look good. She even sent my bodyguards to look after him.

The more I thought about it, the colder and harder my heart got.

I just smiled faintly, facing the friends who laughed at me. "Ironic… I don't think much of you guys either. Today, I'm cutting ties with everyone here. That includes you."

After saying that, I wheeled my chair around to leave.

However, Janet caught hold of me.

She towered over me and said sharply, "You can't go! You have to stay and watch me and Elliot tonight. If you don't, you might spread lies about us and ruin our good name!"

I stared at her, almost laughing. They were about to sleep together and she was still talking about being innocent?

I refused, but she had her parents and my friends pick up my wheelchair and dump me in the bathroom. When they snatched my chair, I fell hard to the floor.

My legs, which were not functioning, were trampled on. I lay there, struggling and humiliated.

Their mocking looks broke what little pride I had left.

My mom thought I had not had enough. "You're already half-dead, so why act tough? You'll need your brother and Janet to take care of you and keep our family and business looking good. Just do what Janet says and think about what you've done!"

With that, they slammed the bathroom door shut.

I had no choice but to listen to the sounds of Elliot and Janet outside, their moans making me angry.

Through the glass door, I could see their shadows, and it hurt to look.

I hit the floor with my fist, growling with rage.

Elliot seemed to enjoy it even more.

"Janet, who's better? Me or your husband?"

Janet gasped and cuddled up to him, teasing, "Oh, stop. You're the only man I've been with. How would I know?"

Then, I felt a sharp pain in my hand. I looked down and saw that I had pinched it until it was bleeding. I shut my eyes tight, grabbed my phone, and found Yvette Robinson's number.

"Get me the best divorce lawyer. I'm done with Janet for good!"

I secretly taped Janet cheating. I took a deep breath, pushed myself up, and spun around.

However, my face went white when I saw the trash can behind me. Inside the trash can was a used pregnancy test that showed a positive result!

The day after they let me go, all that was left on our bed was Janet's shredded wedding dress.

I turned away, feeling sick, and left the room.

On the living room table, there was a bowl of soup that smelled amazing. After a night of being so upset, I was worn out. I grabbed the bowl without thinking, but then my mom smacked it out of my hand.

She looked really annoyed. "That's the special stew I made for Elliot. It costs a lot, and it's just for him. If you have it, what will he have?

"Giving it to you would only be a waste."

Chapter 3

"If it weren't for me, how would you have the money to get him this special stew?"

My mom did not know what to say, and she looked pretty mad as I finished the stew.

Just then, Janet came down the stairs, sounding worried. "Honey, why did you come down alone? I couldn't find you in the bathroom, and I got so scared."

"You still care about me, huh?" I said.

Janet poked my chest and pouted. "Are you still mad about me being with Elliot? I did it for you, you know."

She blushed and looked at Elliot with shy eyes. "Plus, Elliot's got something special. The doctor said I got pregnant last night. Now you see why I did it, right?"

Thinking about the pregnancy test made me feel sick. I shoved her away and started to gag.

"Honey, what's wrong?" Janet came over fast and wiped my mouth without hesitating.

My heart skipped a beat, but then she kept talking. "Have you been working too hard lately? Please take care of yourself. I don't want to worry about you.

"Just call for a press conference at the company, tell them I'm pregnant with our baby, and let Elliot take over as chairman for a while. He can run things for you."

She sounded like she had rehearsed her words, getting smoother as she spoke.

I opened my eyes wide and realized she felt like a stranger to me then. Ever since we were kids, I was the one who got the short end of the stick next to Elliot. Our parents and friends always preferred him.

I even had to quit school and work so that he could study!

I spent half my life being underestimated, but I worked hard and built my own business empire.

Now, the woman I loved most was trying to push me aside!

Janet noticed I was not responding and looked down, puzzled. Then, she saw the new doctor by my side and quickly pushed him away.

"Honey, why did you get a new doctor? I thought your mom and I were taking care of you?"

However, I could see the disgust in their eyes when they looked at my leg.

"Who's your husband?" I shot back.

I pointed at Elliot. "You were with my brother last night. Be careful with your words."

Janet could not pretend anymore and asked me sharply, "What are you saying?"

I threw the divorce papers on the table. "Sign these. We're getting a divorce."

She stared at me, shocked. "You've lost your mind. I won't sign! All this over last night? I already explained that. Can't you let it go?"

Elliot looked guilty and held her hand, "I'm sorry, Janet. It's my fault. He's mad at me. Don't be mad. He's always been like this. I'll talk to him, and it'll be okay."

Elliot ignored my protests and pushed me into the bedroom.

"Yale, why fight with Janet? I know you're hurting too." He knelt down on one knee, trying too hard to look sincere as he gave me advice.

"Why are you acting? Just say what you mean," I told him.

Elliot gave me a mean look, his voice full of envy, "Yale, you've always been like this, acting so smart it makes me want to throw up!"

He tossed a document at me. "Sign this, and hand over the chairman's seat to me!!"

I just laughed it off. "With the way you think, you're not even close to making me step down."

That made Elliot really mad. His face turned tomato red as he yelled, "You think you're so great, you... You with your crippled legs!"

"Even with crippled legs, I can still outsmart you," I shot back.

At that, Elliot stopped, then started laughing like he just figured something out. He kept hitting my legs as he laughed.

"Oh, you don't know yet? How do you think your legs got like that?"

I clenched my arms tight, holding onto the wheelchair.
