Chapter 5

I had been looking at a vase at the end of the bed. When the man lowered his head, I grabbed the vase and smashed it on his head with every ounce of strength I had.

He grunted and fell unconscious to the side with his head covered in blood.

I tried to calm myself down as I panted breathlessly while my heart beat wildly. I kicked the man to the side and made a run for it.

I quickly got out of bed, but my wedding gown had been torn to shreds. I could only pick up the man's coat to put on myself, despite it being barely enough to cover my body. After that, I ran out in a panic.

However, I had no idea where to run after I got out of the room. Everyone here wanted to catch me. What should I do? Oh, the police! I should call the police!

I found another room on the same floor and called the police right after I made sure no one else was in the room. The call was picked up very quickly.

"Officer, please help me! Come quickly to help me! I'm at St. Elias Church. My husband sold me to 30 men! Please save me. I'm hiding in a room at the end of the corridor on the tenth floor!"

I quickly described the situation to the police, believing they would arrive very soon. When the police arrived, I would be safe!

I obediently hid inside the room, feeling hopeful. I thought I might need to wait a while for the police to arrive, as the police station was some distance away. I was surprised to hear steady knocking on the door not long after.

A crisp male voice was heard next. "Open up, Ms. Warwick! It's the local police. We received your call, and we're here to provide backup. Please cooperate with us and open the door."

The police were here! How wonderful! I would finally be saved!

I was overjoyed as I lunged toward the door. Just as my fingers touched the ice-cold metallic door handle, a sudden chill gripped my heart. I paused. I had a feeling I had forgotten something.

My heart kept beating wildly while I frowned. It felt like my heart was frantically trying to remind me that I had forgotten something very important.

It was an indescribably horrible feeling that prompted me to stand on tiptoe and hold my breath while I slowly leaned forward to peek through the door's peephole.

Outside the door stood three men in police uniform. The policeman in the lead was a big, tall man. His broad shoulders were almost bursting through the shoulder lines of his uniform. His hard, bulging muscles looked menacing.

When my gaze swept across their faces, it felt like the blood in my body froze. I held my breath. I could hardly breathe at all.

It was them! That was right! I remembered them now. In my nightmare, three of those horrible 30 men were in police uniform! Three policemen had arrived right after I called the police. They were part of those 30 men!

I covered my mouth. My nails dug into my flesh, but I did not dare make a sound. I was trembling all over as I backed away step by step. Every step felt like I was walking on the tip of a blade. All I could do was stare at the thin door with fear.

Those people outside could barge through the door the very next second and drag me off to an endless hell.

They knocked on the door again, and it scared me so much that my heart almost stopped.

"Ms. Warwick, are you inside? Ms. Warwick! We're policemen here to help you. Why aren't you opening the door?" The people outside started to get impatient when no one answered the door.

"What's going on? Are you sure she's inside that room?"

"She said she was."

"Damn it! Could she have found out about us?"

"Who cares? Let's just knock the door down."

When I heard them plan to knock down the door, I quickly took action by looking around me. I immediately moved the wardrobe and chairs over to block the door.

The crash was deafening. The entire door became slightly crooked from the impact. The sight scared me tremendously as cold sweat covered my forehead. No! That door was not strong enough to stop them.

I had to escape. I had to find a way to leave this room right away! If they got through that door, there would be no way for me to escape.

The door started to move. I was in so much panic that I could not think. The door could not hold them off any longer. What should I do?

Chapter 6

I forced myself to calm down and quickly searched the room for any way to escape. My gaze finally fell on the small balcony, and I ran right toward it before the door was broken down.

When I saw the balcony next door was about six feet wide, I could not help but look down. I was on the tenth floor. It was really high, and it made me feel like I was looking down into an abyss. If I failed to jump onto the next balcony, my body would be crushed from the fall.

While my knees were going weak from fear, I heard the door behind me about to give up from all the crashing. They were about to get into the room. What should I do? Should I jump? I could not help but turn back to look at the dangerously flimsy door.

It did not take long for me to choose between getting caught by them and jumping onto the next balcony. The latter was the clear choice. I did not want to end up as I did in the nightmare, even if I had to risk death.

I took a deep breath and cautiously climbed up the rails. I clenched my teeth. Despite trembling from fear, I did not give up. It was not until I confirmed the distance from me one last time and determined where I should land that I stopped hesitating.

I leaped right toward the balcony next door.

The door broke open at the same time I successfully jumped onto the neighboring balcony. Even though it hurt when I fell, I bit down hard on my lip to stop myself from making a sound.

"Find her!"

"Whoever finds her first will get the privilege of being the first man to have her."

"Hahaha! I can't wait to have a taste of that little bunny."

While the three men were searching for me in the room, I quietly opened the door of the room next to them and successfully made my escape. Wait, it was not a full escape.

As long as I was still inside the church, I had to keep hiding and finding ways to escape. There were people looking for me on every floor. Those men must have blocked all of the building's exits.

If I ran downstairs, I would fall into their hands. If I went upstairs, I might either fall to my death or get caught by them. Was there nowhere for me to escape?

I was filled with despair as I looked around me in desperation, trying to find anywhere I could hide. That was when I suddenly spotted a sign saying 'Do Not Enter' at the entrance to the top of the building. My mind cleared up instantly.

There was still one more place I could hide. It was the penthouse that no one dared set foot in. That was the top of the building.

When we decided to have the wedding at this church, the church steward had specifically instructed us not to enter the top floor, as that room belonged to a very important guest. He did not want anyone to enter that floor, even when the guest was not around.

I had no idea who the important guest was, but I had to take a chance. Those men might be wary about offending that guest too. As long as they did not search the top floor, I had a chance to get help from outside.

However, I had to first pray that the guest was not in the penthouse today. Otherwise, he might throw me out even if I managed to get in. I harbored hope as I snuck upstairs as silently as possible.

God must have taken pity on me because when I finally reached the top floor, a little surprise was waiting for me. The door to the penthouse was open. Not far away from the door was a cleaning cart.

The staff must have forgotten to close the door after they were done cleaning.

This was a good chance! I was elated. If I had been calm enough, I would have noticed something was not right. However, I was too happy to pay any attention.

My tense nerves finally relaxed, and I heaved a long sigh. My tears fell uncontrollably, but I quickly wiped them off. Thank God, I was finally saved!

I did not hesitate to sneak into the penthouse and close the door behind me.

"How are you?" A man's voice suddenly rang out from behind me.

My relaxed body instantly tensed up again. I found it difficult to breathe as I felt myself drowning in despair. I could not believe this!

It happened again… Was I going to end up in the hands of those men one more time? I did not dare to look behind me as I was afraid I would see another familiar face.

Who could it be? Who would the man behind me be this time?
