Chapter 2

Chapter 2

The last time, the guy and I were running until we got tired, and when we looked at each other, we laughed.

Tiana said in my heart, "Oh Jesus, that's when I realized how handsome this guy is - he has dimples that could kill, white teeth, beautiful lips, soft skin."

I looked at him, almost in tears my body was getting hot, and he said with a smile, bringing me back to reality:

The guy said, "You have to pay me cash; I don't have a bank account."

I remembered I had agreed to pay him 30,000 RWF if he saved me from those thugs and i remembered that i didn't really ask him to sleep with me ,it was all in my head but i really wish he could but I'm not bold enough to do something like that. I felt like a drenched puppy. Normally, I don't waste money, but when I thought about it he actually s, he was smiling at me - those dimples were killing me.

I stared at him and completely forgot what had brought me there. He said, 'Why are you looking at me like that? I hope you're not falling for me.'

I replied, 'Oh no! By the way, my name is Tiana.'

The guy said, 'I figured - with beauty like yours, you don't need a made-up name. Even if people say you look like Rihanna.'

I said, 'Wait, how did you know? My friends actually call me that!'

The guy said, 'Every girl is compared to a celebrity, but you're even prettier than Rihanna. Plus, she's getting old.'

I laughed so hard because of the way he told stories. Then I remembered he hadn't told me his name, so I asked, 'By the way, what's your name again?'

He said, 'Remember it well. You said "by the way what's your name again" like someone who already knows.'

Hahaha - I laughed harder than ever at a stranger.

Right then, we saw the guys who had been chasing us come out and hop on motorbikes - they must have passed by here looking for us.

I was standing under a streetlight anyone could see me because of lights, but the guy who saved me was standing behind it in the shadow none would notice him. Suddenly, he pulled me in for a tight hug - zero distance!

I hugged him back. He smelled so good - girls love guys who smell nice!

He wasn't heavy like a "Zaddy" - he was light and tall. I was wearing high heels, and even so, he was taller.

My body felt hot; I didn't know what was happening to me.

I couldn't explain what this boy did to me in those few seconds - but I liked the feeling.

After the bad guys passed, we let go, but I noticed something had changed in the way he was looking at me.

I wondered to myself, Maybe he's falling for me too?

Then he grabbed my hand and said, "Let's get out of here before they come back. I'll escort you home, and then you can pay me."

When he said escort me home, I remembered my mom was angry and waiting for me at home.

I said, "Actually, I don't want to go home yet. I'm starving. Let's find somewhere to eat."

He laughed, grabbed me, and spun me around: "Come on, I'll show you a place."

We walked a bit, and I started feeling cold and tired.

He took off his jacket and put it on me, staying in just a white T-shirt.

He said, "We're almost there."

We arrived at a poor-looking market center - it looked rough.

People there stared at us, but I was used to getting stares anyway cus I'm gorgeous.

Food was being cooked right on the roadside.

The girls there were checking him out, and he would sneak glances back at them, but he kept holding my hand.

We reached a spot where they were grilling potatoes, meat skewers, and more.

I asked him, "What are we doing here?"

He laughed and said, "We're here to eat. I told you I knew a place!"

I said, "Seriously? You eat in places like this? I can't eat food that's not clean!"

I couldn't believe I found myself walking with a guy like this.

I kept staring while people cooked by the road.

He brought a plate with grilled potatoes and meat skewers, smiling.

People passing by were greeting him: "Chike, how are you?"

He smiled back and said, "How can I not be fine when I'm with such a beautiful girl?"

Then he said, "Here, eat."

I refused. I didn't want to eat that food.

He took a bite himself and started chewing happily, even closing his eyes to savor it.

Seeing that made me so hungry - but people were watching if I'd eat too.

He asked me to open my mouth, and when I refused again, he moved to eat it himself.

I quickly grabbed his hand and bit into the food he was holding.

When I started chewing, it tasted so good - better than anything I'd ever eaten!

He kept feeding me, and we were playfully laughing together.

People gathered around us, happy and cheering us on.

He even bought food for everyone there!

I was so happy.

He said, "Now pay, baby!"

I widened my eyes: "What? I thought you were treating me! And you bought food for everyone here knowing that you'll ask me to pay"

He said, "Don't be stingy! Just pay 10k from what you owe me anyway."

I playfully slapped him and paid using my phone.

Even though I didn't tell him, I loved the freedom of that place.

How could a classic girl like me fall in love with a street spot like that?

Chike said, "I know you liked that place. Let's come back tomorrow evening during the weekend, so you can help me earn more money!"

I laughed and said, "You, you know how to sweet-talk! Let's go home. I'll pay you cash.

How can you not have mobile money?"

Chike laughed and said, "I used to have it, but I had to sell my phone after getting mugged!"

He laughed it off so fearlessly that it scared me a bit.

Then he said, "Let me get us a taxi."

I said, "You better not memorize my house!"

He said, "How could I forget? My name is Mwizerwa Chike, 32 years old. I work on Zaddy the Great's buildings - the ones under construction."

Curious, I asked, "What exactly do you do there?"

He smiled and said, "I'm a construction worker."

I said loudly, shocked, "A construction worker?!"

He asked why I was surprised.

I said, "It's nothing. Let's go, but when we reach my house, I'll blindfold you so you don't see where I live!"

He agreed. He pulled a white, nice-smelling cloth from his pocket.

When I reached to grab it, my hand brushed his fingers - it was electric!

He hailed a taxi, and I blindfolded him as we got inside.

The driver laughed at us.

On the way, Chike kept telling funny stories about the girls who throw themselves at him at work.

I laughed so much I thought I would die.

When we arrived at my house, I got scared again but kept stalling.

Luckily, my mom wasn't home.

Liam had called, but I didn't pick up.

We got out, I removed my shoes, grabbed my jacket, and fetched 20,000 RWF.

I gave it to him while he was still blindfolded.

He said, "Untie me so I can see where you live just this time I promise you'll never see me again as you want."

I said, "Who said I don't want to see you again?"

I moved closer to untie him, but before I do he grabbed my hands, and I froze. He kissed me on the forehead and whispered, "I didn't have the courage to do this while looking at you, but this shows how much I appreciate you."

I felt like kissing him back - but a classic, respectful girl like me couldn't play such games!

I pulled away, handed him the money, and said,

"Remember you still owe me 10k. I'll let it when we go back to eat that... that thing - what do they call it again?"

He said, "They call it ibiraha."

I laughed: "Ibiraha?

That sounds funny!"

We said goodbye - it wasn't easy - but eventually, he left because the taxi driver was getting impatient.

it became difficult because the driver said he was running late. He kissed his palm, blew me a kiss and I laughed, walked on, and entered the house while he leaned against the car without entering.

I got into the house, feeling happy. I went straight to the window to see if he was still there. I pulled the curtains aside and he waved at me. I felt embarrassed and quickly collapsed onto the couch to relax.

Then I went to the shower, put on a nightgown, and when it was around 11 PM, I put the food into the fridge because I had left it as I had cooked it. I wasn't hungry, so I went to bed, but my thoughts were with Chike.

In the morning, Tiana was awakened by a ringing phone. She reached for the table without opening her eyes, still feeling sleepy, and picked it up. When she saw who was calling, she immediately woke up, fear taking over her - it was her mom.

Tiana's mom: Good morning, my dear.

Tiana: M-m-morning, Mom.

Tiana's mom: Yesterday, where had you gone? I came over but couldn't find you, and your phone was off.

Tiana: I was with Sandy.

Tiana's mom: Sandy, really? She found me after getting drunk with her friends.

They told me you had come home after work. Don't lie to me.

Tiana: Mom, why don't I come over so we can talk face-to-face?

Tiana's mom: No need. Open the door - I'm at your doorstep.

Tiana: W-what? At the door?

Tiana's mom: Yes, my dear. Today we need to talk.

Tiana panicked, immediately got up, and ran to the window, pulling aside the curtain. She saw her mother's car parked outside.

She held her head in her hands, fear overwhelming her. She paced back and forth before finally opening the door. She hugged her mother, and her mother kissed her on the cheek.

She then went to shower, and afterward, they prepared tea together.

They sat down to have breakfast.

Tiana's mom: Tiana, why aren't you telling me anything?

Tiana: (awkwardly) Tell you what, Mom?

Tiana's mom: Are you planning to grow old single?

Tiana: Well, Mom, it's not like I'm refusing. It's just that I don't have a boyfriend. Nobody's courting me.

Tiana's mom: What about Zaddy then?

Tiana was speechless. She felt like Sandy had betrayed her by telling everything.

Tiana: (reluctantly) Mom, honestly, I don't love Zaddy.

Tiana's mom: Tiana, you're not going back to the village poor. You're a girl with the ability to get any man you want. Accept Zaddy, love him, and make our family proud.

Tiana: Mom, I can't pretend to make others proud while I'm suffering inside!

How could I accept someone I don't love? How could I live with him, sleep beside him, let him touch me, and have children with him just to make the family proud?

Tiana's mom: Your father raised you with the expectation that you'd be a respectable woman with a successful life - and a family! Don't rely on your brother, Liam - he's a man; he'll be fine. But you, you must build a family.

Tiana: To you, Zaddy seems perfect: rich, good-looking, from a respected family, and he loves me. But Mom, he's missing the one thing I need most in a man.

Tiana's mom: And what's that?

Tiana: The ability to make my heart beat. He doesn't have my heart, Mom - and that's the most important thing.

Tiana's mom: Who cares about that? I didn't love Liam's father when I married him - the love came later.

Tiana: That's your story, Mom. I want to love first, then marry - not marry first and then hope to love later.

Tiana's mom: I'm going to meet Zaddy to assess him properly. If I see he's suitable, you'll marry him.

Tiana: How will you know he's right for me?

Tiana's mom: I'm your mother. I know what's best for you.

Tiana: I love you, Mom.

Tiana's mom: I love you too, my precious daughter. But Liam, too, needs to find a wife and stop wasting time. He's not getting any younger.

Tiana smiled, remembering how Chike hugged her tightly when they were almost caught and how he kissed her forehead.

Tiana's mom: Tiana?

Tiana: Yes, ma'am?

Tiana's mom: Are you in love?

Tiana quickly answered, "No way! I just remembered Sandy's WhatsApp status."

Tiana's mom: That Sandy is crazy, you know. I hope you don't turn out like her. Your father expects so much from you.

From the moment Tiana heard the words "your father expects so much from you," she was fed up.

They continued talking until noon, and then her mother left.

They lived in the same city, but every child had found their own house, mainly to avoid the pressure from their mother about marriage.

Liam, Tiana's brother, is tall and fair-skinned. They inherited their height from their mother, who is also tall.

He stays fit by playing basketball and is also a tour company owner - LIAM SAFARIS.

He spends his time touring and taking pictures, meeting women from all over the world who immediately fall for him. He'd pick one girl, spend a week with her, and then move on to another. That's his lifestyle.

Meanwhile, after cleaning the house, Tiana grabbed a juice, sat on the couch, turned on the TV, and started watching a fashion show - designers showcasing extraordinary clothing.

She heard honking outside and stood up to look. It was Sandy with her friends Paula, Leyna, and Sandy's boyfriend Kendrick (or Kendro).

She smiled and opened the door, hugging each of them. Even Kendrick hugged her and teased her by lightly hitting her chest saying,

"But you've gained some weight in south province, huh?"

Kendro: (laughing) "There's everything in the South Province. I regret not setting up my clinic there earlier - it's such a beautiful place."

Sandy: "You'll move there with me, and we'll live freely."

Kendro kissed her. Everyone laughed, covering their mouths.

Kendro: "I'll never leave you, my queen."

Tiana: "Okay, come inside before you start doing it out here."

Paula: "Let's first take a photo."

They took photos and went inside.

Each took a snack while Tiana went to the kitchen to prepare food. Leyna followed her, standing by the kitchen doorway sipping her juice.

Leyna: "How are you, Tiana?"

Tiana: (startled) "I'm good, and you?"

Leyna: "I'm fine. Where were you yesterday?"

Tiana: "I went to the gym. Why are you asking?"

Leyna: "We came here at 10 PM and found your mom here. Don't lie to me - we know each other too well. Tell me the truth."

Tiana: "Liam called saying Mom was looking for me, so I went to Alicia's house and returned at night."

Leyna: "Tiana, I saw you with Zaddy at the nightclub. I came to talk to you but lost you in the crowd. I saw you with a guy wearing a Jordan jacket. Who was that?"

Tiana laughed, remembering the delicious food they ate, like samosas with potatoes inside.

Tiana: "His name is Chike."

Leyna looked at her with curiosity as Tiana smiled while buttering a pan.

Leyna: "What's going on between you two?"

Tiana smiled awkwardly and said nothing.

Leyna: "You know, Zaddy was heartbroken. He had planned to perform with his girlfriend at the after-party."

Tiana: "Oh, please! Didn't I tell him I wasn't coming?"

Leyna: "Zaddy really loves you, Tia. He's hoping one day you'll love him back. He believes that if he's patient, you'll eventually change your mind."

Tiana sighed heavily.

Tiana: "It's not that I don't want to love Zaddy - I just can't."

Sandy suddenly entered and said,

"Enough gossip! My man is hungry!"

Tiana: "I didn't even know you were coming with Kendro. I didn't know he was back in town."

Sandy: "Yes, he's been here for a week. We've been having a good time - we even did it!"

Tiana: (shocked) "You slept together?!"

Sandy: "Yes, and it was amazing."

Leyna says, "I could never believe that Kendro would ask you to do it, the way we are university students, he was even afraid of you. Instead, you ended up falling in love, it surprised me, and even now I still don't understand it."

Sandy says, "You guys wouldn't understand, but he told me - it's me who teased him and provoked him - then he told me that he's always desired me but didn't know how to approach it."

Tiana says, "But you are 5 years older than him."

Sandy says, "So, are you trying to tell me that a 28-year-old guy is young?"

Tiana says, "Go away, you drunkard."

Sandy says, "Oh, by the way, did your mom come here? Now I understand why you're talking to me like this. But sorry, dear, I was drunk and I ended up spilling beans."

Tiana says, "If you do that again, I'll cut your tongue, you little thing."

They all laughed, they ate, drank, talked, and were happy while Sandy told them fake stories and made them laugh.

But Tiana kept checking the time on her watch, Leyna kept looking at her and saw she was uneasy!

Her heart wasn't there - it was with Chike.

Then she said, "Hey, among you all, who knows what 'ibiraha' are?"

They all said, "Ibiraha?"

Tiana said, "Yes, something called 'ibiraha.'"

Sandy said, "Ibiraha? Isn't that chickens? I heard chickens cluck."

Paula said, "Nope, 'ibiraha' are something chickens lay, or their eggs."

Leyna said, "I also think it's something chickens lay."

Tiana laughed rolling on the floor and told them that 'ibiraha' are something you eat, it has potatoes inside.

Kendro said, "In the South, when I pass on the road, I see them selling that, but I didn't know that's what it was called."

Then 'ibiraha' became the topic - they kept telling stories - later they stood up and went home.

Kendro asked her to come out with him sometime, but she said she was tired and wanted to rest.

After they left, she cleaned up, went to shower, came back wearing her yellow Hoodie that reaches the knees, tied a cloth on her head, and picked up a novel by Cathrine Phiri to read.

But her heart was hurting - she was sad because it was already 6:30 PM and Chike hadn't come yet, and she missed him.

Tiana says, "I felt like I missed him, like touching him, I don't know how it happened that I ended up feeling this way yet we just met yesterday. I was reading the novel but couldn't concentrate - pain started growing inside me - but I told myself, 'How can a serious, grown-up girl like me spend her time stressing over a houseboy?'

But I was really hurt because I had trusted him, and now he wasn't keeping his word."

A few moments later, someone knocked on the door.

I got scared but thought it wasn't Chike because I had already convinced myself he wasn't coming.

But when I opened the door, my heart jumped with joy - it was him - I stepped back and welcomed him inside.

Yes, Chike came, wearing a blue and white Miami shirt, blue jeans, the same J1 sneakers from yesterday, and carrying an old Itel 2016 phone.

He stood in front of me smiling as usual - his dimples charming me - his short hair making him look so good.

He told me, "You won't fall into my arms, girl?"

I laughed and when I thought about it, I found myself already in his arms.

It was the best feeling in the world.

I hugged him without thinking.

He whispered, "I missed you, Queen.

Tiana, you look beautiful tonight."

I returned to reality, let go of him, and sat down.

He came and sat too.

He picked up the small novel I was reading, looked at it, and said, "You also read novels?"

I said, "I love reading love novels, especially this one - it's called Soulmates, and the woman who wrote it is amazing, she's South African."

Chike said, "I also love reading novels but I didn't know Cathrine Phiri. But if you agree, we could do it together."

He said looking at my lips flirty😂🤭

I looked at him confused, and he repeated, "We could make it together."

I was so embarrassed

I threw a pillow at him, and he grabbed it and asked, "Why are you throwing a pillow? Don't you want us to read this novel?"

I remembered we were talking about the book, and said, "I forgot, sorry."

Chike said, "Then I'll punish you."

I jumped up and ran, and he chased me - we were laughing.

I climbed onto the couch, he kept chasing me until he tripped and fell on top of me.

I looked into his eyes, and he stayed quiet, staring at my lips and swallowing saliva.

I also felt like kissing him, but I didn't have the strength.

He laughed and asked me, "Do you have a boyfriend?"

I sat next to him and said, "I don't have a boyfriend."

Chike said, "That's impossible - a beautiful girl like you, special, rich too, you can't be single, dear."

I said, "I answered your question, I owe you no explanation. Let me ask you now."

Chike said, "I love how you talk - go ahead, ask."

Tiana said, "What do you do, where do you live, and how old are you?"

Chike got serious and said, "I thought we came to eat ibiraha!"

I said, "It's late now, but I want to know you. Let it be today's deal - tomorrow, Sunday, we'll go eat ibiraha."

Chike said, "My name is Mwizerwa Chike, I live with my friends in the center I took you to.

I work as a brick layer at the construction site

because after university I couldn't find a job. I ended up doing casual jobs. I'm 32 years old. My family lives in the countryside, they are poor, and I am the eldest. They expect me to make it and help them, but life is getting tougher."

I felt sorry for him, but he smiled as he spoke. I kept wondering how someone this handsome could be a brick layer

We kept talking until someone knocked loudly and shouted.

It was Zaddy, drunk, yelling, "Tiana, my love, come receive your husband, his heart needs you!"

He was saying a lot of things. I looked at Chike... and he was also looking at me in curiosity

Chapter 3

We left off with Zaddy calling me while drunk. I looked at Chike and saw he was surprised, like he was about to get up. I signaled him to stay calm and quickly placed my finger on my lips to hush him. I got up quietly, turned off the light, and came back to sit beside him.

Zaddy kept calling for about 30 minutes, but I ignored him. He kept rambling, saying he loved me. The guards eventually got tired and came to take him away because he refused to leave, claiming, "Today I must see my girlfriend!"

I buried my head in my hands, feeling really sad. How could someone love me so much, and I don't feel the same way?

Suddenly, I felt Chike's hand on my shoulder, patting me gently. That made me cry even more. He pulled me close, and I cried for real.

Two years ago, I met Zaddy at the place where I work. He came to request a service, saw me, approached me, and asked me out. I rejected him because I was still with Wilson, even though I wasn't very into Wilson either. But I never felt anything for Zaddy.

He respects me and understands me, but I couldn't do anything for him because I don't love him.

Chike wiped my tears and brought me some water. He turned the light back on and watched me as I sipped it.

"I need an explanation," he said.

I put the glass on the table and looked at him.

Chike: "That was Zaddy the Great, wasn't it?"

Tiana: "Yes. But I don't like that 'the Great' part-it's not like he's God."

Chike: "He knows how you feel about him?"

Tiana: "I told him. But I don't think he understands-or maybe he just doesn't care."

Chike: "If it doesn't matter to you, why were you crying?"

Tiana: "You wouldn't understand. You're a guy; you don't go through these challenges."

Chike: "Okay. You probably have your reasons. It's normal. I think the first guy you loved-the one you told me about-left a mark."

Tiana (smiling): "His name was Derick. He was handsome, smart-he was studying Computer Engineering, same as me. We were the stars of our university. Everyone knew we were a couple. He had everything I ever wanted in a man. I wanted to marry him.

But he didn't like my friends, so in the end, I chose to keep my friends-the ones who helped me heal. Derick wanted a wife, but I wasn't ready to stop being myself for him."

Chike: "Sounds like it was beautiful, even if it ended badly. But you're okay now-and all thanks to your friends. I think I'd like to meet them."

Tiana: "We're not that close though What connects us now is the money I owe you."

Chike: "I didn't forget. But I love stories-and digging deep into them."

Tiana: "It's good you remember. Since I've told you my story, tell me yours."

Chike: "Her name was Elsa. She was beautiful-every guy in the neighborhood tried to date her. But she had her eyes on me. At first, I thought we were just friends until she told me she had a crush on me from the moment she saw me. I was 16 and in Senior 3 when we started dating. We lived in the same area.

Even though my family was poor and hers was rich, she didn't care. She gave me genuine love. I was satisfied.

After university, she went abroad to study-her parents' choice. Our goodbye was full of tears. She promised we'd be together once I finished school. But after 3 years of not finding a job, I wrote her a long email saying we couldn't be together anymore. I told her to move on."

Tiana: "Wow, you really hurt her! What did she say?"

Chike: "She begged me to think it over. But I had already made my decision."

Tiana: "You broke her heart. I hope she didn't lose her mind."

Chike: "She really suffered. She got into drugs, failed her studies. But she never returned to Rwanda. Eventually, after many tears and pain, she met a guy who helped her heal. They fell in love. Now she's married with two beautiful sons and she's happy.

If I'd stayed in that fake relationship with her, none of that would've happened. She'd have wasted her life chasing me, and I'd have missed out too."

Tiana: "Aww, poor Elsa."

Chike: "Yeah. It's over now. I went gray on the streets."

(I burst out laughing)

Tiana: "Gray?!"

We talked for hours. I didn't want him to leave. I gave him the full amount I owed and asked him to come tomorrow so we could go out and eat some good food. He gave me his number, using a cute little phone, and told me to call him tomorrow after we finish our business.

I walked him to the motorbike stop, and before he got on, I said,

"Aren't you forgetting to hug me?"

He came back laughing.

"I also felt like hugging you, but we're not that close yet. Anyway, bye baby girl."

He kissed my cheek and started to walk away, but I pulled him into a hug. He laughed and said,

"Swear you're not in love with me."

Still hugging him, I said,

"There's no one else I'd want to fall for except you! I love hugging-it makes me feel good, helps me relax. You show-off!"

He laughed and replied,

"Most girls want to hug me, but I only enjoy hugging you. You're different."

I felt a thrill rush through me. I said,

"If you love me, you're in trouble. I'll make you pay for what you did to Elsa."

He answered,

"My heart forgot how to love. If I end up loving you, it's because you made it happen."

We laughed. He held my hands, let go, and walked away, blowing air into his palm like he sent me a kiss.

He shouted, "Don't forget to call me, Queen Tiana!"

I laughed and went back inside. That's when Liam called me.

Liam: "Hi baby sis!"

Tiana: "Did you just call me baby? What do you want?"

Liam: "I miss you, sweetheart. What are your plans for tomorrow?"

Tiana: "It's Sunday, I'll go to church, rest, then hit the gym. I haven't gone in a while-I'm starting to look like your ex." (laughs)

Liam: "Which ex? Mary, Claudia, Lena, Cherry, Anne?"

Tiana: "Those are just five of your exes, but I meant Cleopatra."

(laughs)

Liam: "You crazy girl! I miss that Egyptian chick-Pharaoh's daughter!"

Tiana: "Mom said she's going to find you a wife so you can stop acting like a clown."

Liam: "Mom needs to chill. Let me enjoy being single. Marriage is a serious thing. But tomorrow, we've got a trip-we're sleeping in the mountains. Want to come?"

Tiana: "No way. I've got work on Monday. I can't sleep in the wild and wake up for work. You need to find one girl you love and marry her. Or let mom marry you off to one of her classmates."

(laughs)

Liam: "Her classmates are grandmas now. No way! You just find someone for me and leave mom out of this."

Tiana: "Instead, go meet up with Zaddy like you planned."

Liam: "Honestly, sis, Zaddy may not be your type, but he'd make a great brother-in-law. He was just talking about you at dinner. That guy really loves you."

Tiana: "Lia, don't ruin my night. Go disturb some other girl and sleep."

Liam: "No girls tonight, I swear."

Then I suddenly heard a girl's voice say:

Girl: "Babe, what took you so long? I've been waiting for you in the bathroom for 30 minutes!"

I burst out laughing.

Tiana: "Lia, you're crazy! Now you're flirting with an American? You'll get shot one day!"

Liam: "Bye, sis. I love you so much. Sleep well!"

Girl (in background): "Babe, I'm coming!"

He hung up. I kept laughing-my brother is such a playboy! Sometimes I wonder if he'll ever change. But I can't blame him. It's like he casts a spell on girls. Once you see him, hear him talk, see how he dresses, and realize he has money-you fall.

Tiana took a shower, grabbed her favorite novel, and read in bed until she fell asleep.

In the morning, she woke up with joy. She lived alone, though she had neighbors. She opened the window and smiled as the sunlight hit her face. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and then said, "Good morning, Rwanda."

She then played loud music throughout the house, cleaned while singing, cooked, and sorted out dirty clothes. She called a cleaning company that also offers laundry services, and they came to pick up the clothes. After that, she got ready and dressed neatly, as usual, without makeup-she was going to church. She grabbed her handbag, locked the door, and found Alicia waiting for her outside. They left together.

When they came back, Tiana and Alicia sat down, shared a meal, and had a conversation.

Tiana: So, what made you fall in love with Richard and decide to marry him, even quitting your "no marriage" plan?

Alicia: Richard loved me, cared about me, and made me feel emotions I never thought I'd experience in life.

Tiana: So, money didn't influence your decision to be with him?

Alicia: Not at all. There were other rich guys too, but Richard was different. He showed me pure love. He loved me even though we were from different backgrounds and had different life goals. I followed my heart, Tia, and up to now, I have no regrets.

Tiana: But what if he was poor? Would you still have loved him?

Alicia: Love is important, yes, but when choosing someone to spend your life with, you must consider other things. We, as women, devote ourselves to one man, live by his rules, forget our past lives, stop being slay queens, and become mothers. So we can't just marry someone who can't feed or clothe us and spoil us a little. That would discourage others from even wanting to get married!

Tiana: Hmm, sounds complicated. So what if you love him and he loves you, but he's broke?

Alicia: A man must take responsibility. Being a husband comes with duties. But wait-why are you asking all these questions?

Tiana: No reason, I was just curious.

Alicia: I thought you were in love!

Tiana laughed. She then walked Alicia home after her visit. A few hours later, she went to bed. Around 5 a.m., she heard someone knock. Still sleepy, she thought it was Chike, but it wasn't-it was the company bringing back her washed clothes. She put them away and picked out a ripped boyfriend-style pair of jeans, a blue crop top, and white shoes. She grabbed a small white handbag and called Chike.

Chike: Hey baby girl, you missed me?

Tiana: Actually, Chike... I didn't.

Chike: Wow, okay. I'll just go back to sleep then.

Tiana: Sleep? Do you know what time it is?

Chike: I really miss you, mon bébé. Now that I know you don't miss me, I'm heartbroken. But after I cry a little, I'll come get you.

Tiana: Fine, I miss you. Come over.

Chike: I knew it! Give me a hug then!

Tiana: I'm lying. I don't miss you. And even if I did, I wouldn't hug you.

Chike: You just don't want to say it. Let me in.

Tiana: You want to play games again? I'm not falling for it.

Chike: I'm at your door, Queen Tiana.

She heard his voice for real and opened the door. There he was, wearing ripped jeans too-like they'd planned it. He had on a white jumper, a backwards cap, and black Airforce sneakers.

Tiana (in her head): When I saw him, I wanted to hug him. But I need to kill these foolish feelings. I can't love Chike-he won't stay. He came here because of money. I'm not playing games again. I don't even know who he really is. He could be a thief or anything. Anything's possible.

Tiana (aloud): You look good, Mr. Chike.

Chike: You too, baby girl. Shall we go?

They walked together, Chike with his arm around her shoulder, chatting. They got to their favorite neighborhood spot, bought snacks, and ate as they walked.

Tiana: What do you love most when it comes to entertainment?

Chike: I love music and basketball.

Tiana: Why not football? Most guys love football.

Chike: Haha, I'm different, baby. Want to ask me what my favorite song is?

Tiana: Go on then.

Chike: I love all Alan Walker's songs-they have great melodies and meaningful lyrics.

Tiana: I don't even know him.

Chike: You should look him up-you'll thank me later.

Tiana: So when do you think we'll meet again?

Chike: Who knows? But if you don't die and I don't die, we'll meet again somewhere, someday.

Tiana: Well, I'm going home to sleep. You can stay in your Cartier world. I'm not walking you back.

Chike: Come on, let me walk you home.

Tiana: No, I've got work tomorrow. I can't be late. Bye!

She shook his hand, and he said goodbye. She took five steps, then turned back like a crazy person and hugged him tightly. He laughed and wrapped his arms around her too.

Chike: It's beautiful to hug someone you won't see again soon. I won't forget anything about our time together. Thank you, Queen Tiana.

Tiana: Thank you too, Chike. It was nice meeting you.

They looked into each other's eyes and smiled.

Chike: Want me to walk you the rest of the way, baby?

She wanted to say no, but she couldn't resist. He held her hand, and they walked as people stared.

Chike: What do you love?

Tiana: I love fashion and modeling.

Chike: Then why did you study computer science?

Tiana: My mom wanted to be an IT expert but never got the chance. As her firstborn, I took it upon myself to carry her dream. I ended up liking it, but fashion never left my heart.

Chike: Why don't you start your own fashion shop? I can see you're a real fashion killer. I'll be your number one fan. You should name it "Queen Tiana Collection." One day, when I've got money, I'll shop there too.

Tiana: And you'll pay just to see me?

Chike: I know you'd love that.

Tiana: Love what? You're so full of yourself!

Chike: (singing) "Maybe you love me, I can see it. Maybe my body drives you wild..."

Before he finished, she ran after him, laughing. He stopped, and she fell into his arms, pretending that was her plan. She asked for his cap or said she'd strangle him. He laughed and gave it to her.

Chike: You have beautiful hair.

(Side note: Her long, black hair reached her back.)

Suddenly it started raining.

Tiana: Let's find shelter.

Chike: But rain makes life sweeter.

Tiana: Not for me-I'm allergic!

Chike: People like that exist?

As she pulled away to find cover, a car pulled up. Chike still held her hand. The driver rolled down the window-it was Liam.

Tiana: Bro!

Liam: Get in the car, you stubborn girl.

She opened the door and got in without even saying goodbye to Chike.

We got home without talking; I could see he was angry. Every time I tried to make a joke, it didn't work-he left me on "seen." I grabbed my phone and went on Instagram, reading comments on my pictures.

When we arrived home, Liam got out of the car and asked for the key. I stayed seated inside. He went to unlock the door, then came back with an umbrella. I got out, covered myself with it, and ran into the house. After locking the car, he came in and sat on the couch. I gave him tea, and since I was cold, I also drank some. Then I sat facing him.

Liam: "Who was that, Tia?"

Me: "Just someone I met."

Liam: "You meet someone and hug him right away? Wear his hat and even take it with you?"

I touched my head and realized I was still wearing Chike's hat. Embarrassed, I quickly removed it.

Liam kept staring at me like he was mad, but I knew him-he was just trying to fish for information. I decided to act confident.

Me: "What do you want to know? I'm a grown woman, I know what I want. Besides, I never ask you about your stuff, so why question me, bro?"

Liam: "Just tell me his name and what you two were doing. I saw you hug him."

Me: "His name is Chike. I gave him a two-day job, and today it ended. As for the hug, I don't remember hugging him."

Liam: "Chike, huh? I hope you're not in love with him!"

I laughed exaggeratedly.

Me: "Love? Me? No way!"

Liam: "It's fine, sis. But if you ever fall in love, I better be the first to know so we can throw a celebration."

Me: "Sure, young bro. I love you."

Liam: "I love you more, big sis."

I stood up, took Chike's hat, and told myself, "If this hat is the reason to see you again, I'll just send you money to buy another one. I have no plans to see you again. What happened happened; we'll never cross paths again."

I changed clothes and went to the kitchen. It was around 7:30 PM. I cooked Liam's favorite food because I'd already eaten snacks and wasn't planning to eat again. Liam and I chatted a bit. He asked where I wanted to celebrate my birthday. I remembered it was just two weeks away-I was about to turn 30! I told him I missed water (meaning a lakeside or beach), and he said he'd prepare something special. I wished him goodnight and went to bed.

I really love Liam. He's a good brother. I can't imagine my life without him. He's just like his dad. I owe them both so much-they gave me a life.

The next morning, I texted Leyna not to come pick me up because Liam was taking me to work. We had breakfast, joked and laughed. He dropped me off. Paula was already waiting for me. I greeted her and she got into her car and left.

At work, I focused-my heart was on Chike, but my mind stayed on my tasks. Day one passed without calling him, then day two... until Friday, I still hadn't called him. But deep down, I missed him and wanted to dial his number. Then I reminded myself, "No, Tiana, don't humiliate yourself. If he missed you, he'd have called. Don't chase after him."

On Friday, the manager came into my office with a man around 50 years old. From the outside, he looked respectable, but he was a trashy pervert. And I'm no pushover, so he couldn't treat me like the other girls-Leyna, Paula, Sandy, and Alicia. They sleep with him just to keep their jobs, but I rejected him. I know my worth, and he knows it's hard to find an IT staff like me.

But instead of respecting me, he hates me. Doesn't matter-I don't live off his bribes. I even told him that if he tries anything again, I'll report him to Mr. Fernandez, the owner of N.N.T (New Network Telecommunication). Mr. Fernandez is a kind, wealthy older man. He once gave me an Employee of the Year award and wanted to promote me to headquarters, but I declined. I didn't want to leave my friends.

Anyway, back to the manager-he walked into my office as I was packing up around 4 PM and placed a file on my desk without even saying hello.

Manager: "How are you, Rihanna?"

Tiana: "I'm fine, boss."

Manager: "Looks like you want to leave?"

Tiana: "Yes, it's time."

Manager: "You're not leaving. I want you to update this new software tonight."

Tiana: "But I planned to do it tomorrow."

Manager: "You don't make plans here-I do. I'm your manager. You do what I say."

Tiana: "Okay, no problem. But at least let Leyna help me."

Manager: "Leyna and I are going out for fun. And don't try to sneak the work home-you know I don't allow that."

Tiana: "Seriously? Can't you leave Leyna alone? Aren't you tired of her?"

Manager: "Did she tell you I forced her? Please! She enjoyed it. I please her body and spoil her with money. Did you buy her the car she drives? You, on the other hand, still take taxis. You're just a stuck-up bitch. If I get up, I'll slap you like thunder until you wake up in a trash can."

Tiana: "I'm not scared of you. Just leave my office so I can work. But I feel sorry for your wife."

Manager: "You're wearing a nice dress, honey. But I love my wife and would never cheat on her-she knows that. And if you tell her anything, it'll only destroy your own reputation. Goodnight, Rihanna. See you. Bisous."

He kissed my hand and blew on it-reminding me of Chike. But unlike Chike, this guy made me sick.

I took the file, got my laptop, and started working. Alicia and the others came to say goodbye, looking sad. I used the moment to send them to get coffee so I wouldn't fall asleep-it was freezing after the rain. Thankfully, I had brought an umbrella.

I worked while wearing gloves. At 9 PM, I was exhausted but still working alone in the office. Downstairs, the night shift team was handling phone services and client control.

I finally finished at 10 PM, packed my things, and stepped outside. I called for a taxi, but it hadn't arrived yet. Then suddenly, a car parked in front of me. It was Zaddy. He rolled down his window.

Zaddy: (with a smile) "Tiana, let me give you a ride home."

Me: "How did you even know I'd be here this late?"

Zaddy: "Hurry up, sweetheart. You know what this rain could do to you."

I got in the car without thinking. But the moment I sat down, I regretted it-because of what I found inside. Oh God ! I started praying, but it was too late-Zaddy had already started the engine...

Chapter 4

---

I got into Zaddy's car without thinking, but the moment I entered, I regretted it because of what was inside.

Oh Jesus, I began to pray, but it was too late-Zaddy had already started the engine.

Tiana entered Zaddy's car and was shocked to see many empty bottles of alcohol, realizing instantly that Zaddy was drunk.

She went on telling us, "I wondered how I hadn't noticed or heard it in his voice before, but I could now tell he was drunk. However, it was too late, so I asked him, 'Where are you taking me? This direction isn't the way to my home.'"

Zaddy replied, "I'm taking you home, Tiana."

I said, "But Zaddy, don't you know where I live?"

He answered, "Don't call me Zaddy. I love it when you call me 'mon amour,' it touches my heart."

I started getting scared. Zaddy was acting like a madman-talking calmly while driving me somewhere I didn't recognize. It was probably not my home. I said, "Zaddy, please stop the car. Let me go home. I don't know where you're taking me."

He replied, "No, babe, I'm taking you to your real home. The home of your true man. The one who will give you his whole life. If you want, Tiana, I'll buy you a plane ticket and fly you to another planet just to have you all to myself. I want to love you in peace."

I said, "Zaddy, I'm not into games. Please stop the car."

Zaddy answered, "I'm not into games either, babe. But love has turned me into a fool. I've become a street dog because of loving you, sweetheart."

I replied, "Let me come see you tomorrow, during the weekend, and we'll talk. But it's late now-let me go home."

Zaddy fell silent. Fear overtook me completely. I wanted to scream, but no one would hear me-the car was soundproof.

I grabbed my phone and called Liam, but he didn't pick up. I started crying, and Zaddy kept driving recklessly because of the alcohol. Soon, he parked at a large and beautiful gate. I realized we had arrived, and guards came to open it. He drove inside. The guards surrounded the car and opened Zaddy's door. Then he came and opened mine.

As I got out, he hugged me. He reeked of alcohol-dear God, I felt like vomiting. He started caressing my face and looked into my eyes, saying, "Tell me you love me, babe. Even lie to me, just so I can feel peace in my heart. Tell me anything you want, and I'll do it-but please, love me. Ask me for the moon if you want; I'll go fetch it for you. I'll crown you my queen. You're the only one I want, my sugar."

He said all this while pressing his forehead to mine, breathing warm air on me, his voice full of sorrow. I kept my head down, eyes closed.

Zaddy asked, "Why don't you love me, Tiana? Tell me what I'm doing wrong and I'll stop-but love me."

I answered, "I want to go home."

Zaddy said, "That's not going to happen. You'll sleep here, in your man's house. I love you, my queen."

I pulled away from him, furious, and said harshly, "What do you want from me? Did I owe you a debt that gives you the right to kidnap me and bring me here? I never told you I was homeless."

Zaddy replied, "Shhh, don't yell, babe. That doesn't suit you. Come on, let's go inside. Take a shower, change your clothes, and let's eat together."

I refused and tried to run toward the gate. The guards immediately grabbed me. Zaddy went inside while they lifted me and carried me in as I screamed and fought, but it was useless. They took me to a beautiful, well-decorated room where Zaddy was sitting. He stood up and slapped all the guards, saying, "How dare you touch my queen? You should have let her go if she wanted to leave."

I was relieved and asked, "So can I go now?"

Zaddy answered, "No, you're not going anywhere. These idiots can go. Tell Zara to prepare a meal quickly-we're about to dine with my lover."

He approached me, and I stepped back, holding my purse and phone. I reached the wall with nowhere else to go. He put one hand on the wall and raised the other, wiping my tears, then held my cheek and brought his lips close like he was going to kiss me. I pushed him and tried to run, but he caught me and kissed me by force. I kept struggling, left my purse behind but held on to my phone, and quickly dialed Chike.

Even though I couldn't see well, the phone display gave me some clues. Zaddy kept kissing me and saying, "I love you, Tiana." I pushed him again, and he dropped the phone. Seeing this, he got angry. He came toward me in rage, slapped me onto the bed, and said:

"Tiana, I've tolerated enough. I didn't plan to hurt you-I just wanted us to eat together and spend the night, even without anything happening. Just hearing you breathe next to me would be enough. But everything has changed. Now I'll become the villain and do what I've always dreamed of doing! Take off your clothes, Tiana, and hurry."

I cried, lying between his knees as he knelt in front of me and started removing his shirt. I said, "You won't force me, you pervert!" He slapped me, took my hands, and pinned me down. I couldn't even move because of his strength. I started crying and screaming, but he didn't care. He was focused on kissing my neck and mouth.

Tears ran down my face, and I realized there was no way out. I gave in, stopped resisting. He let go of my hands and said, "I love you, babe. Forgive me."

He reached for my dress to lift it. I held his hand, stared him in the eyes, and said, "Let me go to the shower first."

He seemed unsure, so I kissed him and stood up, pretending to give in. He ended up falling back on the bed, and I said, "Wait for me, babe."

I walked to the shower with my phone in hand. He didn't suspect anything. Once inside, I called Chike-he was still on the line from earlier. I cried and whispered, "Chike, are you there?"

Chike, anxious, replied, "Yes, Queen Tiana. Send me your location-I'll come save you."

I answered, "That's not possible, Chike. This place is heavily guarded-they'll kill you on sight."

Still crying, he said, "No one will kill me. Don't forget I built a body

I laughed, because he hadn't built any body-Zaddy would crush him with one hand. He added, "Wait for me, Queen Tiana. And don't cry again, baby girl-I'm coming."

I said, "Be careful, Chike."

He said, "I miss you I'm coming for you."

I was about to say I missed him too when Zaddy knocked. I hid the phone behind the sink and opened the door, only to find Zaddy completely naked. I quickly covered my face. He laughed and said, "I'm here, let's shower together, babe."

He approached, and I felt his dick brush against me. I started crying. He held my shoulders and tried to pull down my dress. It was a long-sleeved dress that reached my knees. I tried to stop him, but I had no way to escape. He removed it, and it fell to the ground. He kissed my neck and whispered, "You have a beautiful body, babe."

He pulled me closer and reached behind to unhook my bra-it fell off too, leaving only my panties. He turned on the water and started pouring it over us while touching me. I wanted to kill him. As he moved his hands lower, the electricity suddenly went off.

Startled, he quickly got out. I also ran out, put on his shirt, grabbed my phone. He called his workers and ordered them to turn on the generator-rich people always have a backup. They did. I started counting the lights until they came back on.

The moment the lights came back, I opened the bedroom door, stepped out, and locked it behind me. He shouted, "Come back, Tiana!" and grabbed the door. I held it too. We pulled against each other, but he was stronger so I ran off.

Suddenly, the generator shut down too-something that never happens unless someone cuts it. Zaddy's house uses electricity-powered locks, and when power is out, some of them disengage.

I ran barefoot, wearing only his shirt, and made it to the gate...

I reached the gate and found no guards. They had all gone to help someone who got electrocuted. So, I opened it and ran outside. Unfortunately, it was still raining, and I made the mistake of stepping into the rain without thinking. As soon as I got into the rain, I started struggling to breathe. My chest tightened. Right at that moment, the power at Zaddy's place came back, and I couldn't move anymore. I collapsed, gasping for breath. I had my phone in my hand.

I hadn't gone far when I saw Zaddy coming out while still dressing, yelling at the others: "Find her, you idiots!" That gave me the strength to get up. My skin felt like it was burning, I had turned pale, and my fingers were trembling. My whole body was hot, especially my feet-each step felt like a ton. I could barely move.

I whispered weakly, "Chike, where are you? Come save me..."

Memories of him saying goodbye, kissing my hand, the way he held me, all came back. I stood up again, still struggling to breathe. Suddenly, a car with Zaddy's security lights stopped in front of me, headlights shining on me. I stepped back, bumping into someone. I got scared because I felt surrounded-but my heart leapt with relief when I realized it was Chike in a black coat and hat. I felt safe instantly. I ignored the other men standing in front of me. He hugged me and softly said, "I'm here, my queen."

I was still having trouble breathing. He held my cheeks and told me, "Close your eyes, baby girl. Breathe in... yes, like that... now breathe out. Good. Stand behind me." He said it so gently-he wasn't even angry-but he was soaking wet.

I followed his instructions and started feeling a bit better. We were standing on the road in front of Zaddy's house, which was well-lit but empty, with rainwater flooding the street.

Then, Zaddy's car pulled up behind his guards. The bright lights almost blinded me. There was about 30 meters between Zaddy and his guards, and Chike and I were about 50 meters from the house gate.

Zaddy stepped out of the car. I grabbed Chike's hand to run, but just then, more cars flashed their lights behind us. Men in jackets jumped out and surrounded us. I collapsed again. Chike quickly lifted me and rushed me into their car and drove off. I don't know what happened to Zaddy next because I blacked out. I fainted and started dreaming again. I remembered the first time I met Chike and heard him begging, "Wake up, Tiana," but I was too weak to wake up. I felt like I was dying. The rain didn't just weaken me-it triggered an illness I inherited from my father. He used to suffer the same way during rainy seasons, and now it's happening to me too.

Chike drove like a madman straight to the hospital around 2 a.m., carrying unconscious Tiana. The nurses rushed to receive her-she was red and breathing abnormally. She was taken to the emergency room. A doctor gave her an injection and put her on a drip, then told Chike to let her sleep. Chike sat beside her, gently applying ointment the doctor gave him to reduce the redness on her face.

Chike stayed up the whole night without sleeping, waiting for her to wake up. Hours passed, and at 5 a.m., he leaned on the wall and finally dozed off.

Tiana: "I opened my eyes, feeling heavy, and my head was hurting. I lifted my right hand and found it had a drip. My face was burning, but less than usual. I saw Chike asleep, leaning on the wall with his hat in his hands. My heart skipped-I remembered everything from last night. He looked like an angel even in his sleep. His lips... I started having silly thoughts. I looked at the table beside me and saw my phone. I remembered my bag with keys and my machine were still at Zaddy's. I got angry remembering what Zaddy tried to do. I picked up my phone and called Liam."

Tiana: "Morning bro."

Liam: "How are you, sunshine?"

Tiana: "Liam, come to the hospital. Don't tell mom."

Liam got worried immediately-he's the type who would kill for me.

Tiana: "Don't panic. Just come to the hospital near my job. It's a small issue."

Liam: "I hope no one dared lay a hand on you!"

Tiana: "I got caught in the rain. Don't make it a big deal. Just come-and don't tell mom."

Liam: "I don't trust you. I just hope they didn't inject you with something you're allergic to. I'll be there in 2 minutes."

Tiana: "I'll be waiting. Love you."

Liam: "Love you too, sis."

I hung up and put the phone back. I saw Chike stir in his sleep. I pretended to still be sleeping. He woke up, ran to me, leaned over, and touched my forehead to check for fever. Then he brought a chair and sat beside me.

Chike: "Queen Tiana, please wake up. I miss your eyes. I miss your smile. I just want to hold you and tell you I'm here."

He hugged me as I lay there. I said, "I feel like you're going to steal my breath." He jumped up, surprised, and smiled.

Chike: "How do you feel?"

Tiana: "I feel fine... now that you're here."

I smiled weakly. He looked into my eyes and held my hand.

Chike: "You scared me. I just hope Zaddy-"

I cut him off by putting a finger on his lips.

Tiana: "Don't even mention him. I don't want to remember the cruelty. I hate him."

I remembered how he slapped me and tried to kiss me by force. I cried. Chike wiped my tears, leaned on my shoulder, and I asked:

Tiana: "Did you sit up all night?"

Chike: "You were struggling to breathe. Your body turned red. I couldn't sleep."

Tiana: "Thank you. I'll pay you back."

Chike laughed. I looked at him seriously.

Tiana: "What? You don't want me to pay you back?"

Chike: "No, I do! Who wouldn't want money?"

Tiana: "How much do you want then?"

He looked up like he was thinking, then smiled.

Chike: "I might overcharge you. Will you give me 100K?"

That shocked me-100K?! I mean, yes, he saved me, and I have money, but still...

Tiana: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart, but 100K is a lot. Can you reduce it?"

Chike: "It's not much. I paid Zaddy's guy to cut the power. I rented cars and paid the guys who helped. It actually cost me over 400K."

Tiana: "Oh, so you hired those guys too? Alright. I'll give you 200K."

Chike: "Deal. But on one condition."

Tiana: "What condition?"

Chike: "Either you give me a kiss-or make it 400K!"

He laughed. I playfully slapped Nurse: Good morning.

You didn't tell us the patient was awake.

Chike: Oh right! There's a patient-haha, I forgot.

He looks at me sideways and chuckles. The nurse glances at him too, then bites her lip flirtatiously and tells Chike,

Nurse: "Come to my bed."

I immediately snap,

Me: "Hey you, miss nurse, my madam-can you remove this IV line?"

Nurse: "Whoa! I'm not the one taking it out. I'm here to get your personal details. Then you can rest. The head doctor, the owner of this clinic, will pass by soon to check on patients personally. He'll decide whether the IV stays or goes."

Chike: "But she looks like she's healed already."

The nurse rolls her eyes at him. He grins. Then she looks at both of us and says,

Nurse: "Are you two a couple?"

We both reply at the same time:

Both: "A couple?!"

Then I quickly add,

Me: "Nope! We're just friends."

Chike lifts his head proudly and says,

Chike: "Yes, we're together."

We glare at each other. The nurse smirks, slips Chike a card with her number on it, then walks out.

I roll my eyes and mutter,

Me: "What a flirt."

Chike: "What? You saw how pretty she is. I might just call her-she clearly likes me."

Feeling a sting of jealousy, I blurt out,

Me: "Pretty? She looks like spoiled beans!"

He laughs, sits next to me, and says,

Chike: "Really? So what should I do with this number?"

Me: "Toss it in the trash!"

Chike: "Will you give me another kiss then?"

Me: "Another what?"

Chike: "So I don't call her."

I roll my eyes again, annoyed. I'm clearly jealous but trying to play it cool. He watches me, smiles, then throws the number into the trash.

Chike: "There-happy now, baby? I threw it away."

I laugh.

Chike: "Listen, baby, I'm going home real quick to shower and change. I'll be back to help you get discharged and take you home."

Me: "That's not necessary. You can rest-my brother will come get me."

Truth is, I was annoyed that he was leaving.

He kisses my forehead. I close my eyes, feeling every second of it. When I open them, he's staring at me deeply, then hugs me tightly, whispering:

Chike: "Wait for me, Queen Tiana. I'll be back in an hour."

He leaves. I start pacing around the room. My mind is racing.

Just then, Liam walks in. I relax a bit. He drops his bags and kneels in front of my bed, holds my face gently and asks,

Liam: "Who hurt you, love?"

Me: "How about a hug first and those snacks you brought? I'm starving!"

He sits across from me, unusually serious.

Liam: "This is serious, Tiana."

I tense up. When Liam gets angry, no one can calm him down. But this time, it's about Zaddy-a man who's far above us. His father is a General, his mother a Parliament Member, and Zaddy himself is rich enough to kill you and fund your funeral.

I tell Liam the whole story. Before I can even finish, he storms out, shouting he's going to kill Zaddy. On the way out, he bumps into the doctor coming in. I try to get up to stop him but I'm still hooked to the IV. I lay back down, feeling helpless.

The doctor greets me, but I ignore him, overwhelmed and in tears.

Then I hear a voice so soothing, it feels like a hug to my heart. I wipe my eyes and look up-a tall, slightly fair-skinned man with neatly trimmed beard, wearing a white coat and blue cotton pants. I jolt upright.

Doctor: "Don't strain yourself."

He touches me gently. I feel electricity run through my body. He smiles and glances at his notebook.

Doctor: "Are you Kamikazi Tatiana?"

I nod, still staring at him.

Doctor: "I'm Dr. Arichie, owner of Arichie's Medical Clinic. I'm doing Saturday rounds, checking on patients to improve our care and listen to any complaints or needs. I also help those who can't afford treatment."

As he talks, I'm lost staring at him.

Me: "Okay... Thank you. I actually feel fine now-you could discharge me."

Dr. Arichie: "Why do you want to leave so quickly? Do you have a husband waiting at home?"

I shake my head. He laughs, and I smile shyly. Then I remember-Chike will be back soon.

Me: "I just want to leave if there's no issue."

Dr. Arichie: "Alright, I'll get that sorted. Do you have someone to escort you? If not, I can give you a ride-I'm done here anyway."

I think about saying yes... but I don't want mixed feelings.

Me: "Thanks, but someone's coming for me. Just give me my prescription, the bill, and clear me to go."

He chuckles.

Dr. Arichie: "Alright then, give me your hand so I can check your pulse. But you have a serious allergy-I'd really want to keep an eye on you. A delay in treatment could be fatal one day."

I hand him my arm. As he removes the IV, it stings and I cry out. He blows on it gently. Our eyes lock.

Dr. Arichie: "I'm Kayiranga Archie Fernandez. It's really nice to meet you."

He smiles wide-he actually looks like Chike, same dimples and all, just lighter-skinned.

Me: "I'm Kamikazi Tatiana, but you can call me Tiana."

Dr. Arichie: "Or Rihanna?"

I laugh.

Me: "How'd you know? That's what my friends call me!"

Dr. Arichie: "Well, you do look alike. Just... more beautiful."

We both laugh. He asks for my number. I give it to him. He writes me a prescription, then leaves.

I get up, unpack the bag Liam brought, hoping for food. I find juice, some cake, and apples-thank goodness! I'm starving.

I shower in the VIP section of the clinic. When I finish, I wear a pair of olive green pants, a white tank top, a matching green jacket, and cute short boots.

My brother Liam-he's truly everything. When I'm in trouble, he's the first I call. He even brings me clothes and underwear without hesitation.

I sit, sipping juice, and call Alicia and Leyna to tell Sandy and Paula to come visit.

Soon after, there's a knock. I peek through the top glass panel-it's Chike.

My heart skips a beat.
