Chapter 7

I glanced at Damon as he took my hand in his and intertwined our fingers.

A smile touched his lips as he said, “You're special to me, Katie. Even though I've been distant these past few days, I still want to be with you. I'll never let anything or anyone separate us.”

I nodded and he added, "I can't wait for our baby to be born. How far long are you now?”

My heart clenched in pain at the thought of our baby. I tried to tell him that I lost the baby, but my breathing turned shallow.

Suddenly, I found it hard to breathe as I hyperventilated.

Damon looked worried as he sat up and hugged me.

He rubbed my back as he murmured, “Breathe, Katie, breathe."

I concentrated on my breathing and started breathing slowly.

Soon, my breathing evened out and he pulled away.

“Was it something that I said? Forgive me, I'll make sure not to say it again." He murmured as he stared at me with wide eyes.

I nodded as I tried not to think of my miscarriage.

He still looked worried as he added, “Let me make it up to you.”

“Alright.” I replied as I drew in a deep breath and let it out.

“To make you feel better, I'll take you wherever you want to go. Where do you want to go?” He asked as he brushed my hair out of my face and tucked it behind my ear.

I flinched at his touch and a hurt look made its way to his face.

“You're not going to the warehouse today?” I asked him as my eyes widened in surprise.

“I'm not going, I would rather be with you.” He murmured as he smiled at me.

“So where do you want to go?” He asked me again.

I cleared my throat and murmured, “You said that we'll go to the amusement park another day so that you’ll make it up to me for leaving me on our wedding anniversary.”

I wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary the right way before I left him. Our wedding anniversary has always been a special day to me and I wanted the last one that we celebrated to be the best, so that I would know that I didn't waste the twelve years that I've been married to Damon.

He nodded, “Of course, I'll make it up to you.”

He stood up as he added, “Come on, let's get ready.”

After we got ready, we went to the amusement park.

As we entered through the gates, Damon's phone beeped, signaling a text message.

He pulled it out of his pants pocket and glanced at the screen.

He looked happy as a smile graced his lips then he glanced at me and his smile disappeared as he looked frustrated.

He cleared his throat nervously as he muttered, “There's this problem with the drug dealer and I need to go to the ware-”

“Warehouse.” I continued his speech as I was all too familiar with it.

Thinking that I might be angry, he pleaded with me, “Please don't be angry, it's just so important and Mafia business can't -”

“Wait.” I continued his speech again with a blank look on my face.

“I'm not angry. I just didn't expect this to happen even though it always happens.” I said with a sigh.

He looked anxious as he replied, “I promise that I'll make it up to you someday.”

“Can't you just ignore it and spend the day with me?” I asked, feeling sadness fill me.

He let out a sigh, “It's too important for me to ignore.”

“More important than me?” I asked as I stared at him, expecting the right answer.

He didn't answer me, instead he turned around and started walking out of the amusement park.

Was he really going to the warehouse or was he going to Bonnie?

So Bonnie was more important to him than me.

Tears filled my eyes, but I blinked them back. I wouldn't let them break me.

I rode the rides in the amusement park alone as I wanted to forget Damon's betrayal and have fun.

I was on the swinging ride when I realized that I didn't need Damon. He was just bringing me down.

All I needed was myself. I was going to survive and I would become successful without Damon.

I stretched my hands out and breathed in the cool air as the ride swung around.

I felt free as I realized that a man doesn't define who I am.

Chapter 8

On my way home in a taxi, my phone beeped.

I pulled it out of my purse and checked it. It was a notification from Instagram.

I clicked on it to see that Bonnie has posted a new video.

She was wearing a helmet and goggles and so was Damon. They grinned at the camera as she said, “My man has declared his love for me when he took me sky diving today! How romantic is that?”

So my suspicion was true; he was with Bonnie, and he declared his love to her.

My heart shattered and I gripped my chest.

The pain was unbearable.

How could he do this to me?

I laughed sarcastically as I ran a hand through my dark hair.

The taxi stopped and opened the door and climbed out.

I was so upset that I didn't even realized that I used the door that was by the streets instead of using the door by the walkway.

A car's horn blared just as it hit me. I gasped in pain and saw the taxi driving away.

The car barely hit me, but my hips and legs were in pain. I couldn't stand any longer and dropped to the ground.

I looked around to see that the car that hit me has drove off too.

Who was going to help me?

I called Damon, but he didn't answer the call. I kept trying, and he sent me a text message, [I have Mafia business to attend to, so I can't answer your call. We'll talk after I come back home.]

He was skydiving with Bonnie, so how was it possible that he was attending to Mafia business?

Tears streamed down my face as I felt miserable.

A kind couple saw me lying on the ground crying and helped me into their car. They took me to the nearest hospital.

“The accident did a number on you because you won't be able to walk for at least two days, but the good news is that your body will heal quickly.” The doctor said as I sat on a wheelchair.

I nodded, “Hopefully, I'll be able to walk by tomorrow.”

“Hopefully.” He replied as he smiled at me.

He wheeled me out of the hospital room and towards the pharmacy where he gave them the drug prescription that he has written down for me.

After I took the drugs, I called Bailey to pick me up from the hospital.

As I wheeled my wheelchair out of the hospital, I spotted Damons carrying Bonnie in his arms.

A frown fell on his brows as he saw me in a wheelchair.

“Katie, why are you in a wheelchair?” He asked me as he stopped in front of me.

I shrugged, “I was in an accident.”

Before he could reply, I added in a cool voice, “I thought you were attending to Mafia business.”

“I was, but then Bonnie twisted her ankle and I had to rush to bring her here.” He answered me in a nervous tone of voice.

“Is our baby okay?” He asked me as his gaze moved to my stomach.

Worry appeared on his face and Bonnie frowned.

I felt my tummy clench in pain at the thought of our lost baby. I drew in a deep breath and let it out as I tried to calm myself down.

Telling me the truth wouldn't make a difference to how he treated me, so I lied, “Yeah, everything’s good."

He looked relieved as he replied, "That's good to know."

Bonnie tightened her arms around his neck and his gaze moved to her.

He sympathized with her and turned to me, “I need to take Bonnie to get checked. I hope you don't mind me coming back home late. Bonnie needs me to take care of her.”

What about me? I was in a freaking wheelchair, I needed to be taken cared of!

That what I wanted to say, but instead, I gave him a tight smile and said, “Sure, she needs you.”

I had planned on telling him about our baby when we went to the amusement park, but he shattered the plan when he left me to go to Bonnie.

He would never find out now.

He nodded and walked into the hospital, leaving me alone like he always did.

Bailey soon arrived and took me home. I didn't sleep even though I was sleepy because I was waiting for Damon to come back home.

It was already 10:00pm, but he still hasn't come back home.

My phone beeped and I checked it to see a notification from Instagram.

Damon posted a video of Bonnie getting a massage as she laid down on the bed.

The masseuse was rubbing her ankles, and she was moaning in pleasure, “Yeah, that's it. Right there."

Damon moved the phone's camera to his face as he grinned and said, "My girl twisted her ankle today, so I had to bring her to the spa to boost her health.”

The video ended and I decided to end this torture too.

I couldn't take the heart break anymore. I rubbed my chest to ease the pain and made my way to the bedroom.

I started packing everything that I owned.

After I was done, I ordered a new sim card and threw out the old one then I deleted my Instagram account.

I felt like I could finally breathe as I prepared to leave Damon.

I placed the divorce papers along with a CD that has Bonnie and Damon’s video from Instagram on his side of the bed.

After everything was set, I called Bailey to pick me up the next day since my flight was in the early morning.

As I was on the plane the next morning, I felt a sense of tranquility.

I had no regrets about leaving Damon.
