Chapter 7

The credit card terminal beeped loudly. The harsh, electronic sound cut through the tense silence of the designer floor.

Chloe, the sales associate, looked at the digital screen. Her eyes widened slightly before she quickly masked her expression with professional neutrality.

"I apologize, Ms. Vance," Chloe said politely. "The bank has placed a temporary security hold on the transaction due to the unusually high amount."

Tiffany's face turned a blotchy, ugly red. Her public embarrassment instantly morphed into loud, defensive anger.

She snatched her phone from her designer purse. Her fingers jabbed at the screen as she furiously dialed her wealth manager. "Release the funds immediately!" she screamed into the receiver.

Ava watched the meltdown with a serene, almost bored expression. Her fingertip continued to lightly trace the edge of the display case.

Kadence shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot. She leaned in, whispering frantically. "Tiffany, people are staring. This is drawing too much attention."

"Shut up!" Tiffany snapped at Kadence. She yelled back into her phone, threatening to close all her accounts if the hold wasn't lifted in ten seconds.

After a tense, agonizing minute, Tiffany shoved her phone back into her bag. She aggressively tapped the platinum card against the terminal again.

The machine processed for a few seconds. Then, it printed out a long, continuous receipt, signaling the successful charge of over one hundred and twenty thousand dollars.

Tiffany ripped the receipt from the machine. She waved it triumphantly in Ava's face, a smug, victorious grin stretching across her lips. "I own the dress and the clutch. This proves I belong in the elite circle. You belong in the gutter."

Ava didn't flinch. She merely offered a slow, patronizing clap that echoed softly in the high-ceilinged room.

"Congratulations on your purchase," Ava said, her voice dripping with icy, calculated sarcasm.

Ava then turned her gaze to Chloe. "Could you please clearly state the store's return policy on custom runway pieces?"

Chloe cleared her throat. She spoke loudly enough for the gathering crowd of wealthy patrons to hear. "All runway and custom items are strictly final sale. No exceptions, no refunds."

Tiffany's triumphant smile faltered. A flicker of genuine financial panic flashed in her eyes as the reality of the non-refundable, six-figure charge set in.

Ava stepped closer to Tiffany. She lowered her voice so only Tiffany and Kadence could hear her next words.

"It's a shame you spent so much liquid cash," Ava murmured casually. She let a beat of silence pass, watching Tiffany's bravado falter. "Considering the confidential Wall Street intelligence Mr. Price just forwarded to my phone, indicating that your father's hedge fund is currently under active investigation by the SEC for wire fraud."

Tiffany physically recoiled. Her jaw dropped open. She stared at Ava in absolute horror, her breathing turning shallow. How could a nobody know her family's highly classified, devastating secret?

Ava didn't give her time to recover. She shifted her cold gaze to Kadence, locking onto the mistress's slightly rounded stomach.

"You have a glowing complexion, Kadence," Ava noted smoothly. "Is Bryant's secret Tribeca townhouse comfortable enough for the upcoming nursery?"

Kadence gasped loudly. She took a stumbling step backward, her hands flying instinctively to cover her stomach. The blood drained completely from her face.

Kadence realized with sheer, paralyzing terror that Ava knew absolutely everything. The affair, the pregnancy, the hidden real estate.

Desperate to escape the psychological torture, Kadence grabbed Tiffany's arm. "We need to leave. Right now!" she pleaded, her voice cracking.

Tiffany, humiliated and financially trapped, shook off Kadence's hand violently. She refused to retreat and look weak in front of the whispering crowd.

She pointed a shaking finger at Ava. "You are just a bitter, jealous liar trying to ruin my day!"

Tiffany demanded that Chloe pack up her items immediately. "I am taking my business to the Private Client Suite! Where trash like you isn't allowed!"

Ava crossed her arms. A genuine smile finally reached her eyes as she watched Tiffany march aggressively toward the restricted VIP area.

She leaned in and softly told Kadence, "You better follow your friend. Because the real show is just about to begin behind those velvet ropes."

Chapter 8

Tiffany marched furiously up to the heavy, velvet-draped doors of the Private Client Suite. Her newly purchased designer bags swung aggressively from her arms, hitting her thighs with every step.

She reached for the polished brass handle, fully intending to storm inside and demand a private fitting room to soothe her bruised ego and hide from the whispering crowd.

Before her fingers could even touch the metal, Mr. Hayes stepped smoothly into her path. The general manager used his body to physically block the entrance.

Mr. Hayes offered a tight, professional smile that didn't reach his eyes. "I apologize, Ms. Vance. The suite is currently occupied by a VVIP client and is strictly off-limits."

Tiffany scoffs loudly, waving her long, expensive receipt directly in his face. "I just spent over a hundred thousand dollars on your floor! I am a platinum tier client!"

She demanded he kick out whoever was inside immediately.

Mr. Hayes didn't even blink at the receipt. His posture remained rigid, his tone dropping an octave to convey absolute authority. "The suite is unavailable."

Kadence caught up to them, breathless and pale. She tugged frantically at Tiffany's arm. "Tiffany, please, let's just go. This is a mistake."

Tiffany ripped her arm away from Kadence. The humiliation from Ava's earlier comments fueled a blind, irrational rage that overrode all common sense.

Ava strolled up behind them. Her footsteps were completely unhurried. She watched the spectacle with detached, cold amusement.

Tiffany spun around, seeing Ava standing there. She immediately pointed a manicured finger at her. "You bribed the manager to embarrass me! You pathetic bitch!"

Ava laughed. It was a soft, melodic sound that chilled the air. "Do you truly believe a hundred thousand dollars makes you royalty in a city of billionaires, Tiffany?"

Tiffany lost the last shred of her composure. She lunged forward slightly, her face contorted in rage. "I will call the press! I will ruin this store's reputation!"

Mr. Hayes immediately signaled with a sharp nod. Two burly security guards, previously standing discreetly near the jewelry counters, began to close in on the group.

Ava stepped past Kadence, invading the mistress's personal space. The scent of Ava's custom, expensive perfume overwhelmed Kadence's senses.

Ava leaned in and whispered directly into Kadence's ear. "How do you think Bryant's IPO investors would react if a high-definition video of his hospital hallway make-out session leaked to Page Six tonight?"

Kadence's eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated terror. All the remaining color left her face. Ava had hard, digital evidence.

Kadence stumbled backward. Her designer shopping bag dropped from her trembling hands, the contents spilling across the polished marble floor.

She grabbed Tiffany by the shoulders, her voice a desperate, cracking sob. "Stop causing a scene! We have to leave!"

Tiffany, confused by Kadence's sudden emotional breakdown, looked between her panicked friend and the eerily calm Ava.

"Stop acting weak!" Tiffany yelled at Kadence. "I won't let a discarded, penniless ex-wife win this!"

She turned back to Mr. Hayes, raising her voice to a shrill, ear-piercing screech. "I demand to speak to the owner of this department store immediately! I will have you fired by the end of the day!"

A heavy click echoed loudly in the tense corridor. The velvet doors of the Private Client Suite unlocked from the inside.

The doors swung open slowly, revealing the opulent interior and the imposing figure standing in the dead center of the room.

Anona Beaumont stepped out into the corridor. She was draped in understated cashmere, wearing a diamond necklace worth more than Tiffany's entire family trust fund.

Anona's gaze swept over the scene. Her eyes were cold, sharp, and instantly assessed the threat to her daughter.

Tiffany, completely failing to recognize the reclusive billionaire matriarch, crossed her arms. "And who the hell are you?"

Mr. Hayes immediately bowed his head in deep respect, stepping aside to give Anona the floor.

Anona looked at Tiffany like one looks at a crushed cockroach. Her voice cut through the air like a diamond blade as she prepared to answer.

Chapter 9

Anona Beaumont stood perfectly still. Her posture radiated an effortless, terrifying authority that instantly silenced the entire corridor.

Tiffany, oblivious to the immense danger standing in front of her, placed her hands on her hips. "Are you the one hoarding the suite?" she demanded loudly.

Anona ignored Tiffany completely. Her sharp eyes softened slightly as she looked past the angry socialite to meet Ava's gaze.

"Darling," Anona asked, her tone gentle and deeply maternal, "are these loud, uncultured women bothering your shopping experience?"

Ava smiled warmly at her mother. "They were just leaving."

Tiffany realized the connection between the two women, but her new-money arrogance prevented her from grasping the sheer scale of their wealth.

Tiffany sneered, insulting Anona directly. "It makes sense. The penniless ex-wife brought her equally pathetic mother to beg for discounts."

The entire floor seemed to hold its breath. Mr. Hayes visibly pales, horrified by the fatal insult directed at the ultimate boss.

Anona didn't yell. Instead, she let out a soft, chilling laugh that made Kadence shiver involuntarily.

Anona turned her piercing gaze back to Tiffany. Her voice was perfectly modulated, carrying the weight of generations of power. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Anona Beaumont."

Tiffany frowned. The name "Beaumont" triggered a faint, terrifying recognition in the back of her mind regarding the city's top real estate developers, but she couldn't piece it together fast enough.

Anona took a single step forward. "I don't just shop at this department store, little girl. My family's holding company owns this entire building. And the retail group."

Tiffany's arrogant expression shattered instantly. It was replaced by wide-eyed, absolute horror as the crushing reality of her mistake crashed down on her.

Anona turned to Mr. Hayes, her tone shifting to strict, unforgiving business. "Immediately revoke Tiffany Vance's purchasing privileges."

She didn't stop there. "Blacklist her across all Beaumont-owned properties globally. Effective immediately."

Tiffany gasped. Tears of profound humiliation welled in her eyes. She realized she had just been permanently exiled from the highest echelons of New York society.

She attempted to stammer an apology, reaching out a trembling hand toward Anona. "Please, wait, I didn't know-"

The two security guards stepped forward smoothly. They intercepted Tiffany's hand, physically placing their massive bodies between her and the Beaumonts.

Anona looked at Kadence next. Her eyes narrowed as she assessed the trembling woman who had helped destroy her daughter's marriage.

Kadence shrank back against the wall. Her hands were shaking so violently she dropped her phone onto the marble floor.

Anona leaned in slightly. "The Ford family is a sinking ship," she whispered, her voice low and lethal. "You are welcome to go down with it."

Ava stepped up beside her mother. The visual unity of the two powerful women projected an impenetrable wall of absolute dominance.

Mr. Hayes gestured sharply toward the elevators. He ordered the security guards to escort the two women off the premises immediately.

The guards flanked Tiffany and Kadence. They physically guided the crying, utterly humiliated women away from the VIP area and toward the public exit.

Shoppers and staff on the main floor watched in stunned silence as the previously arrogant socialites were paraded out like common criminals.

Ava watched them disappear into the elevator. A profound sense of closure and satisfaction washed over her chest.

Anona turned to Ava. Her fierce expression melted back into a warm smile. She linked her arm through her daughter's.

She guided Ava back into the sanctuary of the Private Client Suite. The heavy velvet doors closed firmly behind them, shutting out the world.

Inside, Anona handed Ava a fresh glass of champagne. "To the beginning of our complete takeover," Anona toasted.

Outside the store, standing on the cold pavement, a terrified Kadence pulled out her phone. She needed to warn Bryant. Ava was far more dangerous than they ever imagined.
