A chill ran through Savannah's veins as she watched her child, the one she had carried in her womb for ten months, turn against her to protect Brielle.
It was then that Wyatt finally noticed Savannah's condition. He merely glanced at her before barking orders, "She's bleeding! Get her to the hospital. Brielle's situation is urgent. I'll take her first!"
Then, he scooped Brielle up and left without looking back.
In the hospital, Savannah was drenched in cold sweat from the pain. Her mind was clouded, and all she could hear was the doctor saying, "Her condition is critical. We need family consent for the surgery."
A distraught Wyatt rushed in. Thinking Savannah was unconscious, he signed the necessary papers, told the doctor to save the baby even if it would cost her her life, and then rushed off again to tend to Brielle.
When Savannah finally opened her eyes, the doctor said with relief, "You're lucky. A moment longer, and it could have been a double loss. Fortunately, both you and the baby are fine."
Savannah stared blankly at the ceiling as the irony of it all sank in. The baby, who had fallen with her down the stairs, was miraculously unharmed.
Yet, she remembered Wyatt's words when he had signed the papers. His sole concern had been the baby's survival. It didn't matter at all to him whether she lived.
Savannah touched her belly as a bitter smile curled on her lips.
To keep up his facade as a caring husband, Wyatt soon appeared with a flask of soup and pretended to be worried. "Sav, tell me what happened. Why did you push Brielle down the stairs?"
Savannah sneered at his attempt to shift the blame.
"I was about to ask you why you were celebrating Brielle's birthday at our place behind my back. And what exactly did you put in my milk?"
Wyatt tugged her hand to his chest and explained, "Baby, I wasn't doing anything behind your back. It's just Camden. You know how obsessed he is with Brielle. Remember what he did to you… Anyway, a problem with the venue for her birthday forced us to host it at our place."
"Then why is Chase calling her 'Mommy'? Where did my son get another mother from?"
Wyatt said, "Well, Brielle has a heart condition, and she can't have kids. Camden asked if Chase could agree to have her as his godmother. I didn't tell you because of your history with her."
Watching him lie so effortlessly, Savannah couldn't begin to imagine how long she had been deceived.
"Then tell me, why did you choose to take Brielle to the hospital first instead of me? Why weren't you worried about me at all?
Her relentless questioning left Wyatt struggling for a response. Flustered, he could only say, "Savannah, I know I messed up. Please, just forgive me."
Savannah yanked her hand back with an unwavering look. She wanted to get to the bottom of this.
Cornered by her persistence and unable to continue the facade, Wyatt finally snapped in frustration. His voice rose as his anger took over.
"Don't you know Brielle has a heart condition? If we hadn't gotten her to the hospital in time, the consequences would have been unthinkable! You knew her condition and pushed her down the stairs. She's a public figure and not a housewife like you. Everything she does is under scrutiny!
"If something serious had happened to her in our home, do you have any idea what the fallout would be? You'd better publicly apologize to Brielle after this!"
Savannah's eyes turned red-rimmed, and her voice became sharp and trembling. "Apologize to her? Not in a million years! I didn't lay a hand on her!"
Brielle was a celebrity, whereas Savannah was nothing but a housewife. However, this was only because she had sacrificed her thriving career for Wyatt.
Wyatt, however, was done pretending. His voice turned icy and thick with hatred as he said, "Everyone saw it. You've held a grudge against Brielle for years. Jealousy got the better of you, and you pushed her down the stairs. You will apologize to her!"
Savannah's resolve hardened, and she knocked the flask of soup he'd brought, spilling it across the floor.
Wyatt's face fell, and he stepped closer.
With a sudden yank, Savannah was dragged off without warning. Her knees slammed hard against the floor with a dull thud, and the sharp pain made her gasp instinctively.
But Wyatt showed no sign of stopping. His grip was so tight that it felt like he was trying to crush Savannah's bones as he dragged her toward the door with brute force.
Savannah's hair was disheveled from the struggle. While she fought back, she cried out again and again, her voice desperate and hoarse.
"Let go of me! You're insane! I didn't push her. I didn't!"
Her cries fell on deaf ears as Wyatt hauled her down the hall until they reached Brielle's ward. Inside, Camden was feeding Brielle soup from a flask identical to the one Wyatt had brought earlier.
So the soup had been made especially for Brielle. Savannah had just been an afterthought.
Brielle looked down at Savannah from her high pedestal. "Wyatt, I know Savannah pushed me down the stairs out of jealousy, but you don't have to go this far. She's pregnant, after all."
"No. She has to apologize for what she did!"
Ignoring Savannah's discomfort, Wyatt grabbed her neck and forced her to bow her head.
"Apologize now!"
"I told you, I didn't do it!"
Camden chimed in, "Uncle Wyatt, that’s enough. Don't forget she's pregnant…"
His words trailed off, but everyone understood what was unsaid.
The reminder made Wyatt pause, and he realized he was being impulsive. Savannah was still carrying his and Brielle's child. As much as he was furious, he had to keep up the appearance of a loving husband.
Brielle added pretentiously, "Savannah, don't blame Wyatt. He's just acting on impulse."
Savannah felt sick as she watched the three of them play their roles so seamlessly. She pushed herself up from the floor and stormed out of the room.
Later that night, Brielle slipped into Savannah's ward and sized up her belly.
Savannah quietly switched on a voice recorder.
Brielle smirked coldly. She didn't have to keep up her pretense now that they were alone. She revealed her true colors and confessed, "Camden and Wyatt... I want them both!"
Brielle's voice was full of greed and self-entitlement, but she spoke casually.
"We were both sponsored by Grandpa Finnley, so why did he choose you to become part of the family and not me? He didn't even mind if it meant you married his son instead of his grandson!
"You're an orphan just like me. Why is it that you get to marry into wealth? I'm going to take everything from you! They wanted to keep this from you, but you discovered it anyway. In that case, you might as well let me have Wyatt."
Savannah hadn't realized Brielle had harbored resentment against her for that long.
"You don't love anyone, Brielle. You only love yourself."
Brielle chuckled softly, her expression dripping with mockery at the mention of love.
"Savannah, do you know why you ended up like this? Because you only cared about whether you loved them. You loved Camden, so you deserved to be sullied. You loved Wyatt, so you deserved to be played!
"I don't love any of them. They love me, and that's all I need. I don't need to love them. I climb on their shoulders to get what I want, and if I have to, I'll sacrifice them both."
Savannah's body went cold as she heard Brielle's words. Her mind couldn't quite process that the sweet, innocent image of Brielle was nothing but a mask hiding someone so malicious.
Brielle stepped closer, her gaze lingering on Savannah's belly. Then, she suddenly laughed.
"Savannah, you're truly pathetic."
Savannah knew Brielle thought she hadn't yet discovered the truth about the baby. Brielle assumed she could rest easy as the pregnancy would be preserved.
But Savannah had already discovered the truth and had her plans in motion.
Monday was the scheduled day for the surgery. In the days leading up to it, Wyatt had returned to being the perfect husband and father.
He was constantly by Savannah's side, attending to her every need as he was terrified that something might go wrong with the baby.
Thus, when Savannah asked to spend some time alone outdoors, Wyatt didn't object.
Savannah lay on the operating table, the cold metal beneath her and the chilly air seeping through the thin hospital gown. Nonetheless, the physical chill didn't compare to the emptiness in her heart.
The memories of her time with Wyatt flickered through her mind like a spinning kaleidoscope.
As the anesthesia took effect, the sharp scalpel hovered over her abdomen. The moment it made contact, Savannah could hear the sound of flesh being cut open.
The doctor’s movements were swift and precise. The incision was clean, and she felt little pain. She watched as the baby was removed from her womb, and whatever lingering affection she had for Wyatt faded away.
"Would you like to see the baby? It's still alive, though very fragile."
At five months, the baby's limbs and brain had already begun to develop, taking on a recognizable form.
Savannah, still half-dazed, closed her eyes and shook her head. Knowing the pregnancy was the product of betrayal, she decided it was her responsibility to end it.
When asked if the baby had a name to mark the specimen, she quietly replied, "Dawson Greene."
It was made up of both Wyatt and Brielle's names.
"Thank you for your contribution. The first public display of this specimen will take place at our upcoming medical exhibition. We will inform you of the details, and you may choose whether or not to attend."
After the surgery, Savannah returned to the ward and called her agent.
"Hello, how is the progress of my visa application?"
