This reached the beta's ears; the blood from Norah's palms irritated his conscience, and he felt pity for her. "Please spare me," Norah pleaded to Alpha Xavier. Sherman drove like a man possessed, weaving through forest trails with Norah cradled against his chest, calling for help at every hamlet and stopping only when he found a doctor willing to risk the wrath of the pack.
