Chapter 1

When I was five months pregnant, my mafia husband Dante Pierce had an affair with his childhood sweetheart.

That was when I discovered that our marriage certificate was fake. He had secretly married someone else behind my back.

Even worse, the child I was carrying would be excluded from the family inheritance. From beginning to end, I was nothing more than a public front for his precious childhood sweetheart.

After learning the truth, I did not cry or throw a tantrum. I quietly erased my legal identity, changed my name and disappeared forever with my child.

However, later, everyone claimed that Dante, head of the Pierce family, was a hopeless romantic who had given up everything to search for the wife and child who had vanished without a trace.

In the villa's greenhouse, Dante Pierce pressed me against the floor-to-ceiling glass wall, kissing me until my whole body went weak.

The bright sunlight and waves of floral fragrance made me increasingly dizzy with desire.

His large hands roamed freely over my body, skillfully removing my clothes. When I was completely bare, my face flushed red as I pressed my hands against his chest.

He chuckled softly and whispered in my ear, "I sent all of the maids away. What are you embarrassed about?"

"Be careful with the baby..."

"It's fine. The doctor said it's okay. I'll be gentle..."

The usually cold man's face was tinged red. His movements were tender yet dominant. I held him tightly, forced to endure his intensity as waves of pleasure left my mind completely blank.

Suddenly, an unexpected phone ring interrupted the intimate atmosphere filling the room. Dante frowned and reached for the phone to hang up, but after seeing the caller ID, he answered instead.

My consciousness slowly returned and I heard the voice of Dante's friend, Harvey Wells, coming through the phone.

"Dante, are you really going to..."

Before Harvey could finish, Dante interrupted him in fluent Italian, "Lily's still here. Watch what you say!"

The person on the other end fell silent for a moment before responding in Italian, "Have you lost your mind? You're really going to marry Nina? Five years ago, when she was kidnapped, you broke your leg saving her. Then, when the family abandoned you, she left you for another man. Can you actually forgive that?"

Dante's brow furrowed slightly as he replied calmly, "If she doesn't marry me, the Lace family will force her into an arranged marriage with that old man from the Boone family. I can't bear to see her suffer like that."

"What about Lily? When your leg was ruined and the family abandoned you in that old mansion, she was the one who stayed with you through it all. She loves you so much. How can you betray her?"

Faced with his friend's angry questions, Dante's expression remained unchanged as he answered coldly, "I'll prepare a fake marriage certificate for her. I love her anyway, so what does it matter if the certificate is real or fake?"

"If she finds out, she'll definitely leave you!"

"I won't let her find out, but even if she did, she wouldn't leave me. She's carrying my child."

I felt like a bucket of ice water had been poured over me, chilling me to the bone.

No one knew that to get closer to Dante, I had deliberately learned all the mafia languages, including Italian. Therefore, I understood every single word they said.

Each sentence felt like countless sharp blades stabbing deep into my heart.

After hanging up, Dante released me with little interest. I slumped to the floor, my whole body trembling uncontrollably.

He had just finished getting dressed when his phone rang again. Watching him answer the call and hurry away, I finally let my tears flow freely.

Dante soon sent me a message.

"Lily, I have something urgent to handle. There's a nutritious meal I made for you in the kitchen. Be good and eat it all. I'll check when I get back."

I sat in the greenhouse for hours, letting the sunlight burn my skin, before finally forcing myself to leave. After wiping away my tears, I dumped all of the nutritious food Dante had prepared for me into the trash.

Once that was done, I opened my phone to order takeout, but accidentally came across Nina Lace's Instagram page.

What caught my eye was a photo of a stamped marriage certificate with their names, hers and Dante's, printed in the most prominent position.

The caption below read, "After going in circles, you're still the one by my side in the end."

Chapter 2

I stared at the photo for a long time, then silently liked it. As soon as I exited the page, I received a message from Dante.

"Lily, I'll be busy with some things for the next few days. Be good and wait for me at home."

After a two-second period of silence, I obediently replied, "Okay."

The next day, I got up early and went to the city hall.

"Hello. I need to change my legal identity."

The clerk looked stunned. "Ma'am, if you change your identity, all the certificates and records issued under the name Lily Jensen will become invalid. You'll essentially be erasing your legal existence. Are you sure you want to proceed?"

"I'm certain!"

From now on, everything related to Lily would have nothing to do with me. After processing the paperwork, I established my new identity.

"Ma'am, what's your new name?"

"Anna Louise."

From now on, there would be no person named Lily in this world. I was Anna Louise and I would leave this place forever.

"Your new identity will take effect in seven days. Have a pleasant life."

In seven days, I could use my new identity to buy a plane ticket and leave Dante behind.

On the way home, Nina updated her Instagram again. I masochistically scrolled through everything she posted.

She had shared an intimate wedding photo with Dante. I stared at the man in the photo, who was smiling so tenderly. Ever since his leg injury, Dante had strongly disliked being photographed.

However, he was now breaking his own rules again and again for Nina.

I still liked the photo, then looked up at the wall. The villa walls were covered with my photos, all selfies I had taken in every corner of the villa.

I had once told Dante, "It doesn't matter if you don't like taking photos. I'll take plenty and we can still preserve our memories together."

In all those photos, my smile was sweet because he was always there beside me, just not in frame.

However, it turned out that he would appear in photos with other women. That woman just was not me.

I tore down all the photos, not leaving a single one behind. They filled an entire suitcase, and I would take all of these with me.

By the time I finished everything, it was already late at night. I had just closed the suitcase when Dante suddenly returned.

He saw the empty walls and looked surprised. "Where did all the photos go?"

"I didn't like them anymore, so I tore them down. I'll take some new ones later."

Dante nodded. As he was taking off his clothes, he noticed the documents on the table and frowned. "Why did you take out all your papers?"

"I have some business to handle, so I got them out in advance."

I explained while casually putting the items into my bag.

Dante did not think much of it. He came over and held me in his arms, saying tenderly, "I haven't had time to spend with you these past few days. Your birthday's coming up. I'll take you to the auction house tomorrow to pick out some gifts."

He carried a faint scent of perfume that made my stomach churn, but I did not struggle out of his embrace. I just nodded softly while tears streamed down my face.

The next day, as soon as we sat down in the auction hall, I spotted Nina dressed as a server, carefully weaving through the crowd with a tray of drinks.

I glanced at Dante, but he kept looking straight ahead, not sparing her a single glance. Soon enough, there was a commotion from Nina's direction.

Several rich brats had cornered Nina, taunting her with crude jokes.

"Well, if it isn't our dear Ms. Nina Lace. You stabbed Dante in the back back then, but now that he's become the mafia Don living in glory. Someone must be feeling pretty regretful, right?”

"I heard that you're gonna marry that half-dead geezer from the Boone family. That old man's useless, so you'll definitely be lonely later. Why don't you have some fun with us first..."

Before I knew it, Dante had appeared behind them and kicked those spoiled brats.

Chapter 3

Fury twisted Dante's features as he pinned those men who had harassed Nina to the ground, punching them again and again until they had no strength to fight back.

Screams echoed throughout the auction hall, and everything was in complete chaos.

"We're sorry, Don Pierce! We won't dare do it again! Please have mercy on us!"

The men knelt on the ground begging for forgiveness, blood streaming down their faces.

Dante looked at them coldly. "Get out of here! If you ever dare appear in front of her again, I'll destroy you!"

I fearfully protected my belly, carefully moving toward Dante's direction, but he did not notice my existence at all. He bent down to help Nina up.

"Are you hurt?"

Nina cried as she threw herself into his arms. "I twisted my ankle. I can't move..."

Dante's face darkened as he swept Nina up into his arms and headed straight for the exit. Before I could react, he knocked me to the ground, my lower back slamming against the steps.

The sharp pain shooting through my stomach made my face go white with fear.

"Help me, Dante, don't go..."

My desperate calls were lost in the chaos, taking my last shred of hope with them. Soon someone noticed something was wrong with me.

"Oh my God! There's a pregnant woman here, and she's fallen!"

"She's bleeding so much! Call an ambulance!"

The ambulance rushed me to the hospital and the doctor hurriedly wheeled me into the emergency room.

"Are there any family members here? The baby is in serious danger and needs emergency treatment!"

I struggled to take out my phone and called Dante, but the phone rang for a long time with no answer, and then it was turned off.

"Hurry, there's massive bleeding. Someone must sign the consent form immediately for the emergency operation!"

I closed my eyes and let tears slide down from the corners.

"Let me sign it myself. I... don't have any relatives or family anymore."

I was in surgery for over 24 hours. My child was lucky to survive.

I spent two lonely days in the hospital, forcing my weak body to handle all the checkups alone. Even the elderly patient in the next bed felt compelled to say something.

"Young lady, why don't you call a family member? Watching you bustling around with that big belly makes even strangers feel sorry for you."

I pressed my lips together, my mouth filled with bitterness. "It's okay, sir. I can take care of myself."

Even strangers felt sorry for me, yet my husband had not sent a single call or even a text message in those two days.

The day I woke up, I saw that Nina's Instagram page had been updated with a video of Dante kneeling on the ground, tenderly holding her foot while applying medicine.

I watched it over and over again, punishing myself while whatever was left of my love for him slowly died.

After seeing that video, I knew that even though I was hospitalized, he would never come looking for me.

On my third day in the hospital, despite the doctor's attempts to convince me to stay, I forcibly discharged myself.

Dragging my exhausted body home, I began packing my personal belongings. The clothes hanging in the closet, the toiletries on the vanity and everything else in the villa that belonged to me. I left no item behind.

As for the gifts Dante had given me, our matching cups, toothbrushes and pillows... I threw them all into the trash.

By the time I finished everything, it was already late at night. As soon as I turned on the lights, my phone buzzed with several messages.

They were actually from Nina.

"You've been liking all my Instagram posts, so you must already know that Dante and I are officially married, right? He's also giving me a grand wedding tomorrow, and everyone except you will be there to offer their blessings.”

"Oh, and he personally decorated every part of the venue. I never expected that after all these years, he still remembers my preferences.”

"And I should thank you too. If it weren't for you, his leg would've never healed, and he never would've become the mafia Don. Thanks for taking care of my husband for five whole years!"
