Chapter 2

3

I woke up and fell to the ground.

Amidst the laughter, I got up and looked at everything in front of me in a daze.

I was in the familiar classroom, and I saw the bald teacher and Wendy, who still had her hair tied up and no heavy makeup.

"Nicole Vega! We're in class! And you actually fell asleep and even slipped under the desk! Are you proud of yourself?"

I almost immediately stood up and reflexively answered, "Sir, I have something to do!"

After saying that, I rushed out of the classroom like a gust of wind.

I had no destination, but I kept running. I saw the slogan hanging on the sign of the teaching building. It said, "Exchange all passion for time and let youth burn forever."

On the display screen next to it was a red countdown. We had 240 days until the SAT!

In the distance, there was a green mountain and a blood-red setting sun.

A tall and handsome boy on the playground threw a three-pointer neatly.

I seemed to have seen that figure before.

It was among the blazing fire, completely different from the weak Garth.

But why did I forget when I woke up in my previous life?

An impulse surged up, and without thinking, I ran over and grabbed his wrist.

There was indeed a terrifying burn scar there.

And when I looked up, I completely froze.

It was the strange man from my previous life, but not quite.

There was no terrifying scar on his face, and he had less hostility and more innocence and vigor.

"What are you doing?"

Louie withdrew his hand, showing no emotional fluctuations. his deep eyes were full of oppression.

The collar of his shirt was wildly opened, revealing his delicate muscle lines. He looked like a proud lion.

His dyed-golden hair stood out.

I wanted to laugh, but my smile was uglier than crying.

How pathetic and how lucky I was.

"Did you save a girl from the joint near the school gate that caught fire earlier?" I asked softly.

His slender fingers were slightly bent, and he looked a bit uneasy. After a pause, he said, "It's nothing."

He called rushing into the fire to save someone nothing.

I felt like my heart skipped a beat.

In my previous life, Garth was such a jerk. He kept demanding all kinds of things from me out of favor, which was a huge contrast compared to Louie. I had to reflect on how stupid I was in my previous life to be attracted to Garth, such a despicable person.

"Anyway, thank you!"

With that, I solemnly bowed.

He took a few steps back, touched his nose, ignored me, took a sip of water, and prepared to continue shooting.

I quickly grabbed him and asked to borrow his phone, and he readily handed it to me.

I dialed a number and heard the familiar voice, and I instantly burst into tears.

I wanted to say something, but I really couldn't hold back my tears.

"Lily?"

My nickname was Lily, and since my mother passed away, only my father called me that.

He wasn't good at taking care of me, and since I was a rebellious teenager, our relationship was on the verge of breaking. I actually wanted to cut ties with him for Garth's sake.

Then there was a coal mine accident, and my father was put in prison. I didn't realize how much he loved me until his lawyer transferred a large sum of money to my bank card per month.

Upon hearing my crying, Dad instantly panicked and became furious. "What's wrong, Lily? Has someone bullied you? Fuck! Who is that bold? Who dares to bully you, my daughter? I'll deal with everything and come back right now! Don't be afraid, Lily. I'll handle everything for you! Be good."

As he said that, I cried even harder, gasping for breath. He was so worried, but since I was crying so hard, I couldn't pronounce even a word clearly. Louie, who hadn't gone far, took the phone and started answering my dad's questions one by one.

"She's fine."

"She's at school."

"She's not injured."

"I don't know if she's been bullied."

His tone was calm but very patient.

While talking on the phone, Louie looked at me and asked, "Have you been bullied?"

I nodded instinctively, but realizing that he was about to tell Dad, I quickly shook my head.

He paused and said into the phone, "There's no big problem. I will deal with it. Yes. My name is Louie Steele. Don't worry. My ID card number is..."

After he hung up the phone, I was still sobbing uncontrollably. He looked a bit helpless and said, "Tell me. Who bullied you? I will make things right for you."

I took a few steps forward and rushed into his arms, hugging him tightly and continuing to cry.

I cried for a long, long time.

I felt like my tears had dried up.

It seemed like I had wiped my tears and snot all over his shirt.

Now I finally felt real.

I really had been reborn.

I calmed down a bit and felt a bit embarrassed, but I didn't want to let go.

I didn't move, and he didn't move either, allowing me to hug him.

Until the bell suddenly rang, he pushed me away and said, "Who bullied you? I'll take care of it."

He looked serious, but as I looked closely, his ears were slightly red.

"Go back to class with me, OK?"

I said subconsciously.

Because after he dropped out of school due to fighting, he became unemployed and finally ended up in prison.

I hated to see someone so righteous ending up in jail. It was so unfair.

Besides, Wendy said he did it for me.

For what?

I didn't understand, but after going through everything, I really wanted to hold onto something.

I lowered my head and bit my lip, feeling like my heart was clenched.

Then he said, "No."

The courage I had plucked up with great difficulty disappeared in an instant, and I almost cried. I could only turn around and run.

Later, I learned something.

If I really cried, he wouldn't say no to me no matter what.

Along the way, the malicious words I heard in my previous life seemed to linger in my ears.

"Isn't that infatuated girl? Why is she here too?"

"She's even pregnant. I heard she's not married yet!"

"She hasn't even graduated from college. So embarrassing! Garth, do you have anything to do with her?"

"No. I don't know her at all."

My well-dressed boyfriend sitting in the middle of the banquet table quickly waved his hand, afraid of being associated with me.

And Wendy sat casually next to him and said indifferently, "It's been five years since graduation. Almost all of us went to famous universities, and those with the worst grades also graduated. Nicole, you don't belong here."

The sarcasm in her eyes was obvious.

My heart ached, and I wished I could kill her right away.

My mother died early, and my father was busy with his career. I was isolated and bullied for a long time in junior high school, so even after transferring to another school, I was introverted and had no friends.

I needed love and was very sensitive, so being rescued from the fire made me love Garth deeply.

But it led to my miserable ending...

I wasn't willing!

This time, I swore that I'd never let anyone trample on me again!

I, the daughter of a coal mine owner, wasn't short of money. But I didn't have a high degree. This time, I'd let them know who deserved to be looked down upon.

I behaved very poorly in my previous life. I wasn't a good daughter or a good student. In this life, I'd make up for my shortcomings through hard work.

I got up at five o'clock every day, did two examination papers every day, and focused on studying for 12 hours a day. I hired three online tutors to work on the things I didn't know, had them test me regularly, and then planned for the next week.

I rarely listened in class. Instead, I chose to do exercises during class and ask the teacher after class.

Surprisingly, Garth came to me before I had time to deal with him.

During the physical education class, I leaned against the corner and did exercises, focusing on it. Suddenly, a basketball hit me with a bang.

My head instantly was buzzing.

I heard a familiar and disgusting voice not far away.

"Pretty, bring the ball back!"
