Chapter 3

Natalie- Five Years Later. At the terminal of the Dellmore international airport, my little boy was doing what he did best, being the centre of attraction. I gave him some money to go get some snacks and as he made his way back to me all eyes at the airport terminal were on him, he had on a white shirt and blue overalls and on his legs he had his favourite nike sneakers on. My boys were cute and handsome, I mean their curly lashes or their emerald green eyes that I'm pretty sure they got from their father, a man that after all these years I still can't seem to remember. I was a wolf without a pack, it wasn't easy working and taking care of the boys during the five years. But I did it, and when they were old enough, I enrolled them in a training center for young wolves, which gave me the time that I needed to enroll back in college. Back in Delmore, I was studying to become a doctor, my mom came from a long line of healers and she taught me everything I know about traditional medicine and the human body and also the wolf anatomy, but I knew that if I wanted to practice my craft, I had to get my degree and that was exactly what I did. I had two more years left in my programme so I finished them off and graduated and it wasn't long that I started getting clients from all over the world, but I knew that I couldn't let Yara know that I was alive, it would ruin my whole plan. So I had someone make me some very expensive and life like masks, they made me look pretty ordinary. But after five years, I finally had all the resources that I needed and it was time I came home and finally got my revenge. I had no idea what Yara did with my children but I know for certain that they are not dead, if they were I would've felt it. There's a bond between mother and child, especially werewolves, the same bond I feel with my sons, I feel it when it comes to the children that my sister took from me, that's how I know and I am confident that they are alive. "You okay baby?" I ask Clayton who has been so focused on playing his games on his tablet since we got to the terminal that he hasn't bothered to look up. Clayton is the quiet one, but he's also the thoughtful one, unlike his brother Xavier who is the adventurous one of the two, but I'm not complaining. "Yes mummy, I just have to pass this stage." He says not even looking up from his tablet. Xavier finally gets back to where we are with his snacks in hand and I can immediately feel the stares. It's nothing I'm not used to, I mean I get it, if I saw a child as handsome as Xavier running over to a woman who looked like me, I mean I would also stare. The realistic mask that I wore was so good, everyone thought that's how I really looked. With my super hearing I could hear what most of them said even though I tried to tune them out, they were wondering if I was the nanny or how it was possible for someone as ugly as I was to give birth to two handsome boys. "Did you get everything that you needed baby?" I asked Xavier. "Yes mummy and I also got the snacks for you and Clayton." He says with a proud grin on his face. "You are such a good big brother." I tell him as I take the snacks from him and put them on the chair. "Mummy, the people are staring again." He tries to whisper but his voice just comes out the same and it makes me smile. "I know baby." I tell him. "But do you really have to wear that ugly mask here to?" He asks me. I've done my best to explain to the kids why I have to wear this mask and even though they understood at the time, they're still kids. But it's not just the mask, I wear the mask and being a very skilled doctor I was also able to device a scent, that hid my actual scent from anyone that would recognise me. I mean even if my face was different, people who knew me or who I'm related to, can easily recognise my scent and I can't let that happen, especially when it comes to Yara, she thinks that I'm dead and I want it to stay that way. "Are you trying to say I'm ugly bubba?" I ask him with a raise of my eyebrow. "Of course not, you're the most beautiful mummy in the whole world and I want everyone to see that." He says and I swear my heart melts on the spot. "You are so sweet." I bend down and kiss him on his cheek but as I stand up, someone runs into my legs and I look down, shocked to see a little girl clinging to my legs. She looks up at me, eyes the same colour as mine with tears welling up in them. "Mummy." She calls me. Her calling me her mum, I don't know why but I felt this tug in my heart. She's just how I imagined my little girl would be. But I immediately shake my head, as much as I would like this little girl to be my daughter, she isn't, I mean it would be too easy. I probably look like her mum and she's lost. I squat so I'm on the same level as she is. "Hey baby girl, are you lost?" I ask her. She just shakes her head, "Mummy, Mummy." She says again as she pokes me in the chest. "I'm not your mummy baby, but I can help you find her." I tell her but again all she does is shake her head as she clings to my arm. "Sophia!" I hear a man shout as he runs towards us. "Oh thank God." He exhales in relief as he gets to us. I know all about stranger danger and I wasn't about to hand this child over to this man, and it was also clear that she was here with her mother. "Who are you exactly?" I asked the man and he looked affronted but I didn't care. "My name is Steven Bowers and that little girl holding your hand is my niece." He tells me, I listened to his heartbeat and it was steady so either he was a very good liar or he was telling the truth. "I take it you're with her mother?" I ask him and he looks confused. "I'm sorry, I don't understand." He tells me. "Sophia ran up to me thinking I was her mom, she started calling me her mommy. Do I look like her mother?" I ask him because that would explain her confusion. "I'm sorry but that's not possible." Steven tells me. "Are you calling me a liar?" I asked him. "No, not at all but the thing is Sophia has aphasia, since she was a baby she hasn't spoken to anyone, which is why I'm finding it hard to believe that she called you her mother." He tells me. My heart breaks as I look down at the little girl, I squat down again so I'm on the same level as her. "Is this true Sophia?" I ask and she looks at me and nods her head. "Is this man really your uncle?" I ask her, she looks at Steven then back at me and she nods her head. "Well he looks really worried, so why don't you go with him." I tell her and immediately tears well up in her eyes. "I want to tell you something Sophia, something my mother told me. She believed that they were coincidences and there was fate. I believe that me meeting you here today is fate and do you know what that means?" I asked her and she shook her head. "It means that this isn't the last time we'll see each other, I'll see you again Sophia, so you don't have to be sad ok." I tell her and she slowly nods her head. I take her hand and give her to her uncle. "She's a special little girl." I tell him. "Yes she is, I didn't get your name." He tells me. "It doesn't matter, goodbye Steven." I tell him and then I turn around and head back to my kids, Xavier was now the one on his tablet while Clayton looked at me with a curious look on his face. "What is it my love?" I asked him. "That little girl." He says. "Yeah, what about her?" I asked him. "She looks like you mummy."

Chapter 4

Alpha Samuel Bowers- Where the hell was Steven with my daughter? I knew I shouldn't have let him take her alone, I should've gone with them but I had a very important meeting that I had to attend and according to Steven this was the only opening the doctor would have until next year. I would do anything for my children especially Sophia, even if it meant spending all the money that I had so we could find a way for her to start talking I would do it. Five years ago, on a day quite like this one, I was on my way to work when the guards at the gate called to tell me that I had a visitor, I told them to tell whoever it was that I was on my way out and to come back later but they told me that it was a woman with two babies and she was saying that I was their father. I immediately told him to send them in and then I thought back to my escapades for the past months, now I was no saint but what I was, was careful. Everyone knew who my family was and the wealth and power that we had, everyone wanted to be a part of Blood Moon Pack, and any woman could use a pregnancy as an opportunity to get in with us so I always wore protection except for that one time with her. The woman with the face of an angel, the one that I couldn't get off my mind even till this day, it was a fluke that I stopped by that hotel bar that day, it wasn't where I would usually go, but as fate would have it, I ended up there and that's where I saw her. The night that I spent with her was the best of my life and it shook me to my core because it could only mean one thing, I mean my wolf was basically shouting it in my head all through that night and it took everything in me to hold him back from marking her, the unknown woman was my mate. I left her there alone that night, I know it was the cowards way out but I wasn't ready to face reality yet. But after a few days when I finally got my head around it and saw that I was being scared for no reason, I went back to the hotel and no one knew where she was or even what her name was. I had no idea where to start from, I didn't have her name, no pictures, nothing. There was a knock on my door and as I opened it, she was right there, the woman that I spent months looking for and she had two baby carriers in each of her hands. I opened the door and she stepped in and put the carriers on the floor. She told me that she had also been looking for me and it was hard seeing as she didn't know my name or anything and it wasn't until she saw my picture in the newspaper that she figured out who I was. She said that I was the baby's father and I could do a DNA test if I wanted to, but looking down at the babies I knew they were mine, I mean that was the good thing about being a wolf, we recognised our blood, and those kids were mine. The person I wasn't sure was mine was the woman standing in front of me, my wolf was also confused, I mean she looked like the woman I spent the night with but there was something different about her, her scent wasn't the same and my wolf agreed. I mean she looked the same as she did that night but something was off and for the life of me I couldn't put my finger on it, until I realised that my wolf didn't recognise her, unlike that night, so maybe I was just drunk and confused. We came up with an agreement that day, the kids would be with me full time and she could come and see them whenever she wanted but what she was more interested in was the money I would give to her for child support. Right then and there, I knew that I was just confused by lust that night and there was no way Yara could be my mate and my wolf agreed, he was quiet all through our conversation. So five years later, Yara barely spends time with the children unless I'm there, I think she's still hoping that something is going to happen between us but it won't. The door opens and Steven and Sophia eneter. "Hey baby girl." I say to her but she doesn't even acknowledge my presence, she just runs into the house, probably to go find Franklin her brother. I get up and glare at my brother. "Steven, what's wrong with Sophia?" I growl at him and I didn't even realise that I was that angry. "Calm down, before you go all Alpha on me." My brother says. "Talk now." I tell him because I was this close to throwing him across the room. "Ok, ok, something happened at the airport. I lost Sophia for a few minutes." He says. "You did what?" I snarl at him and he's smart enough to take a few steps back. "I found her ok and she was fine. She ran up to a woman at the airport and called her mummy, I mean I couldn't believe my ears." He says. I also can't believe it. "Are you saying that the doctor did it? That Sophia can talk now?" I ask him, hope in my voice. "No, I don't think it was the doctor because I was there with Sophia in his office and it was the same as the other doctors visits. I think it was the woman." He tells me. "What can you tell me about her." "She's just your run of the mill plane jane mummy." He tells me and I want to smack him across his head. "I'm not talking about her looks doofus, I mean who is she." I tell him. "I have no idea, I tried asking her name but she wouldn't give it." He tells me. "Get the investigative team on it immediately, I want to know everything there is to know about this woman." I tell him. "I'll get right on it." He says and I leave and make my way to the kids playroom. When I get there, I stand by the door and just watch them. Franklin is sharpening some crayons for his sister because she's drawing. "What are you drawing Sophie bear?" Franklin asked his sister. I watched as she wrote something on her paper and pointed at it. "Mummy?" Franklin asked her. Sophia nodded her head. "That isn't mummy Sophia." Franklin told his sister. Sophia just shook her head and went back to her drawing with a smile on her face. I had to find this woman immediately and find out what exactly she did to my daughter.

Chapter 5

Natalie- For the past three years, there isn't a place in the world that I haven't been to. You see I was raised outside the pack by my mother, we lived in a village and we were rogues, but unlike the rogues that would usually pillage and kill, we helped people. My mother came from a great line of healers and we helped sick people everyday and she taught me everything that she knew, passing down years and years of wisdom. After I got my degree I focused more on my mother's work and everything that she had taught me about traditional medicine and my practice grew and I did more research and I was able to save more people. Everyone wanted to find out who I was but that wasn't possible because every time I went out for a case, I wore a different mask. You see that's the thing with humans and also the supernatural, we always want to know, we can't just accept a good thing like that. I didn't do what I did for the money or the recognition, I just wanted to help people and I knew the moment I revealed my identity that would all change and I couldn't have that. I wanted a normal life for me and for my children. But for the past year, the spark I felt doing what I loved to do best was gone. I was stuck treating greedy old men who just didn't want to die and finally I decided I was done. I had enough money to return to Delmore and that was the push I needed to leave and when I got here I was going to do what I intended to do with my gifts in the first place which was to heal people who couldn't afford to go to the hospital for help. But so as to not draw any attention to myself, I accepted a job as the head coroner for the city, no one would ever suspect a coroner who deals with dead people to be the one healing the sick. After we got to our house and I got the kids settled, my mind was still on the little girl at the airport but also on what Clayton said. Did she actually look like me? The one thing I did notice were her eyes, they were blue just like mine, but blue eyes weren't that uncommon unlike emerald eyes so I couldn't count it as anything. But Layla my wolf was curious about her and she did not want me to turn away. But thinking about her made me think about my daughter, she would be around the same age as the little girl was. Everyday I prayed to the goddess to keep my children safe until I could get them back. Now that I was back in Delmore I was going to start my search, it shouldn't be that hard, Yara isn't known to keep a low profile. "Mummy, you have some new emails." Xavier tells me, dragging me out of my thoughts. "Xavier, what have I told you about going on mummy's computer." I glare at him. "I'm sorry mummy, I just wanted to see if Ian had sent any emails, he said he would." He says and I immediately feel bad. Ian was our neighbour back in Denver, he was this older gentleman, he helped me with the kids whenever I needed help and he didn't ask for anything in return. The kids loved him and that was the hardest part about leaving. "I miss him too bubba, I'm sure he'll send the email soon and if he doesn't then we'll just call him alright." I tell him and that brings a smile to my face. "Whoa, mom, this man is offering you a hundred million dollars. It says that he's really sick and no one has been able to figure out what's wrong with him. He is offering to pay you 100 million dollars to treat him." Clayton says. When exactly did he leave the sofa and get over here. "Clayton." I scold him. "Sorry mum." He says but from the smirk on his face, I can tell that he isn't sorry at all. Clayton just can't stay away from any device. I don't even bother to read the email, I just close my laptop and face my children. "You're not going to take the job?" Xavier asks me. "Yeah mummy, that's a lot of money." Clayton adds. "Now what do I always tell the both of you?" I ask them. "Money isn't everything." The both say at the same time. "Exactly, now go wash up for dinner, we don't have any groceries yet so I'm going to order pizza." I tell them and they hoot in excitement as they run up the stairs. I order the pizza and then I open up my laptop, I close my email and click on the google search engine and then I type in Yara's name. Her Instagram handle pops up and it's clear that she's been traveling a lot but there aren't any pictures of children and my heart is about to sink until I stumble upon a picture, it's of her hand and then there are two tiny hands in hers and she captioned it my heart and this was posted about four months ago. This meant that they were alive, my children were alive and Yara kept them. But why? ***************** My phone starts ringing, dragging me out of my sleep and I wonder who exactly is calling me by this time, I look at the bedside clock and it's five in the morning. I pick up the call. "Hello." "Natalie, this is Jim Reynolds, I'm sorry to bother you because I know you don't officially start work until next week but I need your help. My people just uncovered several plastic bags by the river bank and they were filled with body parts." He tells me. Jim Reynolds is the chief of police for Delmore, I haven't officially met him but we have talked on the phone before. "Alright, I'll be right there, just send me the location." I tell him and then I cut the call. I grab my kit, it has everything that I need inside and then I change my clothes. I go into the kids room and wake Clayton. "Hey sweetheart, mummy has to leave for work, but I'll be back soon, you know the drill right?" I asked him. "Yeah, don't leave the house, no playing with fire, use the microwave." He sleepily tells me. "That's my boy." I kiss him on the head as he goes back to sleep and then I leave the house and get into my car, it's time to get to work.
