Mindy was right. I could not even wait for two days before going home.
The next day was Thanksgiving, so I had to go home to pack my things.
As I entered the house, I saw that all my things were thrown haphazardly at the door. There were even a few stray dogs tugging at my things.
A wave of anger rose in my chest, but I pushed it down.
Harvey happened to come out of the bedroom. "Mason, you really did come back, but it's only been a day! You're even more obedient than Mindy’s puppy. You're a desperate, homeless dog!" He looked at me with an openly sarcastic expression.
I ignored him, crouching down and slowly packing up my things. Everything else was there except my family photograph. It was the only remaining family photograph of my parents and me.
I stared at Harvey and shouted at him, "Where's my family photo? Where did you put my family photo?"
Harvey smiled and then took out the small photo frame from behind him. "Mason, are you looking for this?"
I was just about to reach out to snatch it when Harvey smiled and raised his hand high.
"No..."
Unfortunately, he threw the frame hard on the ground. The glass instantly shattered into pieces, dividing my parents and me into countless pieces.
I had not just lost them through death, but through this ruined photograph too.
My eyes were bloodshot as I swung my arm and struck Harvey. With a slap, a red mark instantly appeared on his face.
Just then, Mindy used all her strength to push me away, nearly causing me to stumble.
"Mason, you lunatic! What did you do to Harvey?"
Harvey's eyes were red. "Mindy, it's my fault. I shouldn't have accidentally dropped Mason's family photo."
Mindy glanced at the photograph on the floor before glaring at me fiercely. "It's just a dumb photo. If it's broken, it's broken."
She helped Harvey to his feet as she spoke.
It turned out she thought it was just a dumb photograph .
I had no idea if it was the emotional backlash or the discomfort from having my blood drawn, but a piercing pain shot through my chest. I felt as if I were being gripped by invisible hands, leaving me powerless. "Mindy, it hurts so much. Can you take me to the hospital?"
Mindy paused, her voice indifferent. "Pretending again? Pretending once might earn you sympathy, but doing it all the time will only annoy people. Get lost."
Harvey smiled smugly. "Mindy, my face hurts so much."
Mindy answered quickly and distressedly, "Come on, I'll take you to the hospital. Don't be afraid. The pain will go away soon."
With that, she wrapped her arms around Harvey, and they walked away without looking back.
Looking at her back, I was completely disappointed. I truly did not love her anymore.
I was already in the hospital when I woke up again.
The doctor breathed a sigh of relief. "Mr. Gregory, you're finally awake. Do you know that you would have died if you had come in a little later?"
I stood up. My heart skipped a beat as I thought about Mindy walking away. It turns out she could be so heartless to someone she did not love.
My assistant walked in and looked at me. "Do you want to postpone it to another day?"
My eyes were cold. "No, let's do it today, on Thanksgiving Day."
My assistant added, "Sir, I've also discovered something. Harvey's medical records are all fabricated. He wasn't ill at all. He didn't even go abroad to get medical treatment. He went abroad because he hooked up with another wealthy woman, but she later dumped him."
I answered calmly, "Really? Help me sort out the information and give it to Mindy. I want to give her a gift she'll never forget this Thanksgiving."
