Chapter 7

Caspian looked at the phone screen and felt that something seemed wrong.

Ten minutes had already gone by after he sent the message, but Dahlia still had not replied.

Before this, whenever he sent her a message, she always answered right away.

Even when he accidentally touched his phone and only sent a single period, she still replied at once and asked him caring questions.

Sometimes, when she felt happy and her illness was not acting up too often, she even sent him cute stickers.

Caspian suddenly remembered the moment two days earlier, the last time he saw Dahlia in the hospital.

That day, her face showed many emotions he could not understand, much more than he had seen from her during all these years.

Ever since he caused her depression, her face had mostly looked sad and lost.

There were barely any other expressions.

But two days earlier, her expressions had been full of emotion, nothing like a person with severe depression.

Everything about this felt wrong.

The assistant reached over and carried Caspian’s luggage. “President Holmes, are we heading back to the company?”

When he saw Caspian staying silent, the assistant was about to speak again when the phone suddenly vibrated.

He looked at the screen, his face turning troubled. “President Holmes, are you going to see Miss Silva? During these two days, because you were away on a business trip, she seems unwilling to believe it and keeps calling to ask where you are.”

During the two days overseas for work, Caspian spent over twelve hours working each day.

To him, this was not considered tiring, only average work pressure.

He simply went from meeting to meeting, spending the breaks drinking coffee or quickly finishing a meal.

He did not have spare time for personal matters and had not even gotten the chance to read all his messages.

Because she could not get a reply from him, Camilla could only keep contacting his assistant.

Caspian held out his hand. “Pass me the phone.”

He took the phone, answered the call, and spoke deeply. “Camilla, it’s me.”

After hearing Caspian’s voice, Camilla finally breathed in relief. “Uncle, you finally replied to me.”

Her voice sounded wronged, as if tears were about to fall. “I spent two days looking for you. You never replied to my messages. I was so worried about you. Uncle, where did you go?”

When he thought about her crying face, Caspian felt bad for her.

His tone stayed soft. “These past two days on the business trip, I was always stuck in meetings and too busy. I accidentally neglected you. I apologize.”

At the other end of the phone, Camilla slightly raised her lips into a smile.

Just as she expected, Caspian was always helpless against her weak and pitiful appearance.

Whenever she acted like this, Caspian completely gave in and agreed to all her requests.

She sobbed lightly twice. “Th-then I’ll give you one final chance… I want to eat the cassava cake from that store in Garden City.”

“Okay. I’ll go buy them right now.”

The airport was located on the east side of the city, and driving to the west side took two hours.

That cassava cake shop also needed a two-hour wait in line.

After ending the call, Caspian looked at the gift bag in his hand and paused for a moment.

In the end, he still put the gift bag away.

Giving the gift to Dahlia later would not make any difference anyway.

But the cassava cake shop on the west side of the city closed at seven in the evening. If he failed to buy them by then, he would have no way to explain things to Camilla.

Caspian lifted his eyes toward the assistant. “Let’s go. Head to the cassava cake shop in Garden City right now.”

Chapter 8

The black Maybach stopped outside the press conference venue.

Inside, the place was already crowded with the most famous reporters and media from all over Utah.

Many microphones and cameras had already been prepared in front of the stage, waiting for Dahlia to appear.

Dahlia stepped out of the car and slowly walked into the venue with her assistant beside her.

She wore a plain white skirt suit and sat directly at the center of the stage.

The second everyone saw her, the entire venue exploded into noise. Quiet discussions spread nonstop.

“Isn’t this supposed to be the press conference for the Watson family’s eldest miss? Why is this unfamiliar woman here?”

“Hey, your family always hears gossip first in Utah. Do you know who the woman on stage is?”

“No idea. Could she be connected to the Watson family somehow? Maybe she’s Eldest Miss Watson’s assistant?”

Dahlia did not feel surprised at all.

After all, her face had already become someone else’s face.

Now, even she felt unfamiliar when looking at herself, much less other people.

She picked up the microphone, glanced around the whole venue, and slowly breathed in. “Hello, everyone. I am Dahlia. I came here today because I want to properly tell all of you about the five years Caspian and I spent in our marriage.”

She took out the gold-stamped divorce certificate. “I already divorced Caspian. The marriage between the Watson family and the Holmes family is over. I have also returned to the Watson family and will become the future successor of the Watson family.”

“During these five years of marriage, Caspian kept poisoning me, making my depression worse and worse.”

As Dahlia said those words, her voice stayed calm and strong. At the same time, many surveillance videos appeared on the large screen, showing Caspian secretly changing her medicine, along with detailed drug test reports.

“My Watson family did nothing wrong to the Holmes family. After the marriage, I kept doing everything a wife should do. I even left the board of Watson Corporation and stayed home completely, all so I could help Caspian well.”

“But all my efforts only got me Caspian’s betrayal, and the person he cheated with was even his old friend’s adopted daughter, Camilla.”

The next second, videos suddenly appeared on the big screen behind her, showing Caspian and Camilla having secret relationships in different villa rooms.

The entire venue immediately exploded with noise.

The reporters and media rushed to record the shocking moment.

The livestream viewers also quickly increased, while the comments section moved so fast that nobody could clearly read the messages anymore.

Dahlia’s hand beneath the table was already trembling nonstop.

She tightly pressed her nails into her palm. Even when her nails pierced her skin, she ignored the pain and forced herself to stay calm.

“Camilla kept setting me up and hurting me again and again, while Caspian helped her the entire time. The worst time was when Caspian tied me up without my permission, took me to the hospital, and transferred my face to Camilla.”

Soon after, the hospital surveillance video from that day appeared on the screen.

Dahlia slowly lifted her hand and moved the loose hair away from her forehead, exposing the injuries that still had not completely healed.

Not far from her, the assistant signaled toward her.

The livestream viewers had already passed one million, while Caspian and Camilla had reached the top trending search.

The entire comment section was flooded with angry insults toward the cheating couple.

Some netizens were still not satisfied after insulting them. Right there on the spot, they even called the Holmes Corporation customer service hotline to give Caspian their most “sincere greetings.”

Dahlia’s purpose for holding this press conference had already succeeded.

“I will make Caspian and Camilla repay every bad thing they did to me.”

“This is just the beginning.”

She did not answer the reporters and only used those short words to finish the press conference.

Chapter 9

Caspian waited in line for two hours. After that, he drove all the way at full speed and even passed three red lights before finally reaching the hospital.

When he gave the cassava cakes to Camilla, the pastries were still warm.

Camilla smiled while taking the cassava cakes. Her fingertips lightly brushed against his hand, either on purpose or not. “Uncle, these pastries are still warm.”

Caspian looked at her and slightly lifted the corners of his lips. His voice softly lowered without him noticing, “Camilla, eat them while they’re still hot.”

Seeing her should’ve made him happy, yet an odd feeling stayed inside his chest.

A strange sense of losing control slowly spread through his heart.

He suddenly remembered Dahlia and stepped forward, wanting to leave the room.

But Camilla quickly set the pastries aside and walked up to hug him tightly, resting her head against his chest. “Uncle, I didn’t see you for two days. I missed you so much.”

“How come you’re leaving right after seeing me?” She lifted her head and looked at him with red eyes. “Uncle, don’t you miss me?”

Caspian paused for a short moment. In the end, he still lifted his hand and gently rubbed Camilla’s hair. “I do. During the whole business trip, I kept thinking about you every day.”

“Then did you… Miss Sister Dahlia?”

Caspian was about to answer when Camilla softly said with a sad face. “She’s your wife, so of course you miss her. Uncle already bought me cassava cakes, so I’m already happy enough.”

“I know that if the two of us ever clash, I’ll be the one left behind. But before that happens, can you let me… stay close to your warmth a little longer? Uncle, during these five years, I was alone most of the time. I really lived such a lonely life.”

Caspian let out a sigh and reached out to hug Camilla back. “Camilla, back then, I’d just gotten married and still needed help from the Watson Corporation, so I couldn’t let Dahlia find out about us. That’s why I sent you overseas.”

“But now, I’ve already built my position completely. The Watson family can’t bully you anymore.”

“I’ll also find a way to stop Dahlia from targeting you again. We’ll have a future together, I promise.”

Caspian stayed at the hospital with Camilla for a long time. He only left the room after comforting her until she fell asleep.

His face looked tired as he leaned against the hospital hallway wall and touched the gift he’d kept in his pocket the whole time.

He couldn’t stop thinking about Dahlia and wanted to place the gift in her hands himself.

He pulled out his phone and opened his chat with Dahlia.

She still hadn’t replied to any of his messages.

Frowning, he sent another text, but a red exclamation mark appeared right away.

Caspian’s expression slowly turned dark.

Dahlia hadn’t just blocked him on WhatsApp. She’d also blocked his calls and text messages.

He couldn’t reach her at all.

What exactly was she trying to do? Was she upset just because he didn’t give her the gift right after leaving the airport?

Caspian felt a little annoyed and called the villa's housekeeper. “Anne, hand the phone to Dahlia. I need to talk to her.”

Anne paused for a second before speaking carefully. “Mr. Holmes, Ma’am isn’t home. Didn’t you say before that she was in the hospital? She hasn’t come back since then.”

Caspian rubbed between his brows and ended the call.

He lifted his hand and checked the date on his watch.

He remembered it clearly. Today was the exact day Dahlia left the hospital.

After leaving the hospital, she didn’t even go back home. Her face still hadn’t fully healed, so what was she doing outside by herself?

Was she doing this on purpose, making him look for her everywhere just to show how important she was?

Right then, his phone suddenly rang again.

The assistant sounded worried. “President Holmes, something’s wrong! Ma’am personally held a press conference. She said she divorced you and even exposed your relationship with Miss Silva in public! The whole company’s already in chaos, and the phones won’t stop ringing!”
