Chapter 1

My daughter Aurora Shepard got accepted into a prestigious university, but my husband Phillip Shepard secretly swapped the list, sending Kathy Sanford, the daughter of Dalia Sanford, the woman unattainable in his heart into the prestigious school instead.

As for my daughter, she could only attend a junior college.

Unable to handle the blow, my daughter suffered a brain hemorrhage.

By the time I rushed her to the hospital, it was already too late.

Facing my daughter's lifeless body, I cried to the point of nearly fainting.

Meanwhile, Phillip was still celebrating with Dalia and her family.

***

My daughter, Aurora, had always excelled academically and was well-known as a top student at school.

Getting into a prestigious university was almost a sure thing for her.

To outsiders, our family seemed incredibly happy. My daughter was beautiful, sensible, and accomplished; my husband owned his own company and adored both me and our daughter.

But I alone knew that Phillip was always busy with his company and with Dalia.

A year ago, after Dalia divorced, she called Phillip first. From that day on, he became even busier.

He was occupied with company matters and also took care of Dalia and her family.

Even Dalia's daughter, Kathy, received special attention.

Behind the scenes, Kathy even called him "Daddy Phillip".

As for me and my daughter, Phillip hardly had time for us.

With the SAT exam approaching, I was solely focused on caring for my daughter, hoping she would get into a good university, which would satisfy me.

As for Phillip, I still held a glimmer of hope for him in my heart.

Until that day when my daughter's exam results came out. She had been accepted into a prestigious university.

Just as she was full of joy, dreaming about college life, Phillip switched her identity with Kathy's.

After finding out, my daughter fainted from anger and suffered a brain hemorrhage, leading to her being rushed to the hospital.

On the way there, she had already passed away.

Holding my daughter's cold body, I noticed Dalia's social media update.

[My daughter got into a prestigious university, and we are celebrating!]

In the photo, Dalia and Kathy sat on either side, while Phillip took the center spot.

Gone was the serious demeanor he had at home; Phillip wore a smile that, if one did not know better, could easily be mistaken for a family portrait.

At that moment, I could no longer hold back. I called Phillip.

"Phillip, our daughter is dead!"

I screamed in despair.

"What nonsense are you talking about? Lorena, don't challenge my patience!"

Phillip's cold voice came through the phone, "When did you pick up the habit of lying?

"I told you before that I have nothing to do with Dalia! Why won't you believe me? Stop being so paranoid!"

"Daddy Phillip, we are cutting the cake!"

Kathy's voice echoed from the other end of the line.

"Okay!"

From his initial impatience with me, Phillip's tone turned soft when he answered Kathy.

It was as if Kathy were his real daughter.

At that moment, my heart turned to ash.

Three days later, feeling utterly hopeless, I finished the funeral of my daughter.

I quietly held her urn, reflecting on her life from childhood to now.

Such a smart and considerate daughter should have gotten into a prestigious university, only to have her name swapped.

And all of this was orchestrated by Phillip.

During those three days, Dalia updated her social media multiple times, sharing photos of Phillip enjoying outings with Kathy, where Kathy was smiling sweetly.

Chapter 2

I completed my daughter's death certificate. Phillip had swapped the identities of the two girls, and since Kathy entered the university under my daughter's name, how could a person who was already dead attend college?

There was no doubt that Kathy had taken Aurora's acceptance letter to school, only to be sent back soon after.

On that day, Phillip, who had been absent for a long time, returned home.

With cold eyes, he stared at me and said, "Lorena, you have gone too far!

"You hid my daughter and even issued a death certificate just to prevent Kathy from attending university?"

Hearing this, I scoffed at Phillip.

Even now, he thought I had hidden Aurora away.

Aurora was my life, my daughter.

What mother would issue a death certificate for her daughter just for a lie?

Phillip had always thought of me this way.

"Phillip, I told you, Aurora is dead! You drove her to her death!"

I fixed my icy gaze on him.

Phillip did not believe my words at all and shouted, "Lorena, you have really crossed the line this time!

"I told you that Kathy's grades are poor; she needs a good university.

"And our Aurora had always performed well. Even if she went to a junior college, it would not matter. She could keep up with her studies!

"Besides, once Aurora graduates, I will pave the way for her!"

His words made me feel nauseated.

"No need to pave the way anymore!"

I said flatly, "Phillip, let's get a divorce!"

"Lorena, what do you mean by that?"

Phillip's expression darkened, and he angrily accused, "Where exactly did you hide my daughter?"

"She is right there! Can't you see?"

I pointed at the urn on the shelf and shouted.

"Lorena, you have truly lost it!"

Phillip's face turned cold as he said, "Aurora was always healthy; how could anything have happened to her?"

Just as he was about to continue arguing with me, his phone rang.

I glanced at the screen; it was Kathy's call.

"Daddy Phillip, what should I do? I can't get into university!"

Kathy's cries came through the line.

As soon as Phillip heard her voice, he hurriedly left.

At that moment, I felt no lingering affection for him whatsoever.

Chapter 3

Phillip and I met on a rainy night.

That day, I had just finished work and was about to head home when I encountered a drunken Phillip.

When he saw me, he froze, muttering about Dalia.

After that, he pursued me relentlessly. We got to know each other, fell in love, and eventually married, having our child.

Later, I learned that when he first met me, he viewed me as a substitute for Dalia who was unattainable to him, because I bore a resemblance to Dalia.

But I was not her; Dalia cried at the drop of a hat, while I had managed everything in our home with precision since marrying Phillip.

Even when Phillip faced business troubles, I was the one who stepped in to resolve them.

I had thought that after all these years, Phillip would have forgotten Dalia.

But when Dalia divorced and returned with her daughter, I never expected Phillip to act so recklessly.

And I became a laughingstock.

This past year, I had come to understand that as long as my daughter was well, I could endure any injustice.

Yet, even my beloved daughter was now dead because of him.

I felt no love left for Phillip; all I had was endless hatred.

I hired a lawyer and documented all of Phillip's actions. Since he was unwilling to divorce, I would make him.

I could never forgive a scoundrel who drove his daughter to death.
