Six Years of Sincere Love, Ultimately Just Empty Words Chapter 1

I used to be the most pampered young lady in the social circles of the capital.

But for the sake of pursuing my boyfriend, I willingly spent six years of my youth with him, building his business from scratch in a basement.

On the day we were supposed to meet his parents, he abandoned me to care for his first love, who had just returned from abroad.

I stood by the street, feeling dizzy from the cold wind.

His first love posted a sweet tweet online.

[The oatmeal cooked by a CEO is really good.]

The picture showed Zak Nicholson busy in the kitchen, with a bowl of oatmeal.

I liked the post and commented: [Don't forget to pair it with wild vegetables.]

Then, I broke off our engagement.

He probably didn't realize that my father was the largest investor in his company.

——

When Zak returned to our shared apartment, the movers were just arriving.

Leaning against the door, he gave me a sideways glance.

Watching more and more things being carried out of the house, he finally realized that my breakup last night wasn't a joke.

He snorted, "Molly, you're not some young girl anymore. Running away from home? Don't you think you're being dramatic?

"I didn't even meet your parents. Is that really such a big deal to make a fuss over?"

Looking at his cold expression, I suddenly felt exhausted.

In the past, at the first hint of his cold words, I would have immediately reflected on what I did wrong.

But now, I only thought of what my parents had told me, "A man who truly loves you would never leave you on the side of the road for another woman."

At that time, we were heading to see my parents.

I retorted, "It is a big deal. This so-called 'small matter' has finally shown me who you truly are."

I looked into those eyes I had once been so infatuated with.

Seeing that I was serious, Zak softened his tone.

He said, "I already explained over the phone, didn't I? Olivia just got back from abroad, she hasn't settled in yet. I was just helping her out.

"We've been together for six years. Don't you know what kind of person I am now?

"You used to be so understanding. Why are you acting like this now?

"Molly, don't make things difficult for me, alright?"

Olivia Dawson was Zak's unrequited first love.

They had broken up because they disagreed on their post-graduation plans, but she had remained his unattainable dream ever since.

As our argument escalated, the movers, respecting our privacy, lingered outside.

Zak's phone rang.

As he answered, his cold expression softened immediately.

Olivia asked, "Zak, you didn't argue with her, did you?

"After all, we talked about this before. I'm just worried your girlfriend might misunderstand. If she's really upset, bring her to meet me, and I'll apologize in person."

Zak deliberately put the call on speaker for me to hear.

The choked, apologetic voice on the other end seemed to make him even more uncomfortable.

He said, "This isn't your fault. I offered to help. You just rest, and once I settle this, we can go for a walk."

After hanging up, Zak looked at me disapprovingly.

He said, "Look at Olivia. She's worried you might be upset and called to explain. And you? Your mind is filled with all sorts of nonsense.

"Let's just forget this whole thing. We'll reschedule the meeting with your parents."

He sounded as if nothing had happened.

Not a hint of guilt or apology for leaving me in the cold for three hours yesterday, only to call and cancel at the last minute.

I said, "My dad said there's no need for another meeting."

"What do you mean?" he asked, licking his lips nervously.

I replied, "My parents want to meet their son-in-law, not some stranger."

My words annoyed him.

He sulked, "You were the one who kept pushing me to find time to meet your parents, and now you're saying no? Do you even want to get married or not?"

I replied, "No, I don't. Let's just end this."

The moment I said those words, I felt an emptiness inside.

But at the same time, it felt like a huge burden had been lifted from my shoulders.

Zak sneered, "Fine, we won't get married. Just don't come crying with regret later."

He slammed the door as he stormed out.

I sighed and waved the confused movers inside.

Everything here was bought with my money, and I wasn't about to let Zak get a penny out of it.
