After the Breakup, CEO Regretted it Deeply! Chapter 1

During a heavy rainstorm, my mother suddenly fell seriously ill and was rushed to the hospital.

Unable to find a taxi, I begged my boyfriend to drive me, but he refused, citing work commitments.

By the time I arrived, soaked and frantic, my mother was already gone.

In my despair, I called John Davis over a hundred times, but he didn't answer once.

The next day, his first love posted on social media, "Whenever I need you, you're always there!"

Everyone was waiting for my response as his official girlfriend.

Surprisingly calm, I replied, "Congratulations! A jerk and his mistress make a perfect match—enjoy your lives together!"

1

I've been with John for five years, and I'm really exhausted.

From the start, I knew he was only with me to make Olivia Smith jealous, but I genuinely loved him.

For these five years, I didn't dare to argue or make a scene; I just quietly stayed by his side.

Even when I had a high fever of 104°F, he left me alone at home to be with Olivia, and I didn't complain.

There was a time when both Olivia and I fell into the water. Without hesitation, he swam toward her, leaving me to struggle and choke. I still didn't say a word.

When he was drunk and calling out Olivia's name, I remained silent, quietly helping him clean up and feeding him sobering soup.

Even on my birthday, when he promised to be with me, he ultimately abandoned me at the restaurant for a call from Olivia, and I pretended to understand.

But understanding didn't mean I wasn't hurt.

When my mother had an accident, I desperately needed his help for the first time, but he still chose Olivia.

I couldn't get a taxi and had to wade through waist-deep floodwaters to reach the hospital, nearly swept away in the process.

By the time I arrived, my mother had already passed away.

I called him countless times, but he didn't answer and even blocked me.

Finally, I lost all hope.

I handled my mother's affairs alone, and just as I was about to go to the police station to cancel her registration, I ran into Olivia, who was holding onto John.

When John saw me, he frowned and asked, "What are you doing here?"

His tone suggested he thought I was stalking them.

I laughed coldly and replied, "If you can be here, why can't I?"

John looked taken aback.

After five years together, I had always tried to please him and had never spoken to him so pointedly.

Olivia smiled at me, her voice dripping with arrogance. "Sierra Lynn, don't misunderstand. A few days ago, my dog went missing, and I was really worried. I called John for help, and after searching for days, he came with me to file a report."

I suddenly found it absurd. So, he rushed to her side for her lost dog, ignoring my desperate pleas and leaving me unable to see my mother one last time.

This way, I wouldn't owe him anything anymore.

I glanced at John and, surprisingly calm, said, "John, let's break up."

2

John scoffed, clearly doubting I would actually leave him.

"Sierra, what are you making a fuss about now? Olivia has lost everything; I can't just ignore her. She's just a patient—why are you arguing with her?"

It's always like this!

Whenever Olivia calls, no matter how far away he is, John rushes to her side to take care of her and coax her into taking her medication.

If I show even a hint of dissatisfaction, he takes the moral high ground and scolds me.

"She's just a patient. Besides, it's impossible for us to be together again. She's my family; it's only natural for me to care for her."

Yes! Olivia is not only his first love but also his sister-in-law.

Years ago, she left him to marry his brother, and to spite her, he started dating me.

But two years ago, his brother passed away, and Olivia fell into a deep depression.

Since then, she has become my nightmare. I can only watch helplessly as he drifts further away, caring for another woman under the guise of family obligation.

I can't be jealous; that would make me petty and lacking empathy.

But why should I care about her illness? It's not my fault she's sick, and love isn't about who has the bigger claim. After all, he is my boyfriend.

But now, I don't want anything anymore.

"I won't fight for her anymore."

I spoke calmly.

John didn't notice my unusual demeanor; he thought I was conceding, and his tone softened slightly.

"Just don't provoke me. I've already contacted specialists about your mother's situation. I know what I'm doing; she'll be fine."

John is so used to being self-assured, thinking he has everything under control.

But life and death aren't things anyone can dictate.

No matter how powerful the Davis family is, they can't snatch someone from death's grasp.

Besides, my mother is already gone; I know this better than anyone. I was the one who placed her into the cremation furnace. She has become nothing but ashes, finally laid to rest.

I didn't explain; I just smirked.

I was busy canceling my mother's household registration, walking past them into the police station.

John looked back at me in confusion, not understanding what I was doing.

But soon, his attention was diverted by Olivia.

After I finished my business and came out of the police station, I ran into them again.

Olivia's dog had been found!

3

Olivia held "Princess" tightly in her arms, tears in her eyes, as if cradling a long-lost treasure.

This dog meant a lot to her.

It was a gift from John during their passionate romance, a symbol of their relationship.

That's why Olivia and John were so frantic when "Princess" went missing.

Ironically, we had once owned a cat. I had to pout and beg John for ages before he reluctantly let me bring it home.

I cared for that cat for a year until it died from feline distemper, and I cried for an entire day and night.

John, however, watched me with indifference and said, "Is it really that serious? It's just a cat. Better it dies than keep chewing up my stuff."

I still remember the wave of sorrow that hit me then.

It was clear that my cat and I would never matter to him as much as Olivia and her dog.

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain on my foot. Reflexively, I shook my leg, causing "Princess" to whimper in pain.

Olivia screamed, scooping up the dog I had just tossed aside, her face filled with concern.

"Sierra, what are you doing? If you have a problem, take it out on me, not Princess!"

I was taken aback by her accusation, almost laughing in disbelief. "Are you blind? Your dog bit me first!"

I had just reacted instinctively. If anyone was at fault, it was her dog.

But Olivia stood her ground. "Princess is just a dog; she doesn't understand. Besides, she bites me all the time at home, and I'm fine."

"You were so rough just now that you hurt Princess. I want you to apologize to her."

Apologize to a dog that bit me?

No way!

But Olivia wouldn't let it go. "John, look at her attitude!"

Princess let out a soft whine, seemingly in agreement.

John's expression turned icy. "Sierra, apologize to Princess!"

He had seen everything but still demanded I apologize to the dog.

I rolled my eyes.

I didn't even know if that dog was sick; I should probably go to the vet for a vaccine first.

As I thought about leaving, John suddenly grabbed my arm tightly, causing my wrist to ache.

I knew that going along with him would spare me some trouble, but thinking of my mother and that cat, I suddenly didn't want to endure it any longer.

This wasn't even my fault.

I looked at John defiantly. "What if I refuse to apologize?"

He narrowed his eyes, a warning glint in them. "Sierra, don't make me angry!"

I had feared his anger in the past; whenever he showed a cold demeanor, I would comply with him.

But now, he could be as angry as he liked; it was his problem!

Seeing that I was unmoved, John coldly threatened me, "What about your mother's illness?"

"Do you still want to treat it?"

4

I laughed.

This was the second time he brought up my mom.

If he had bothered to ask or show any real concern, he would have known that she had passed away.

He could no longer threaten me, yet he thought he had found my weakness.

"If you apologize to the princess, I can make sure the doctor continues treating your mother."

After five years together, I only knew he was a jerk, not that he was this heartless.

When I calmly looked at him and asked, "If I don't apologize, are you really going to let my mom go without treatment?"

He confidently replied, "Yes!"

I thought nothing he said could hurt me anymore, but hearing those words still felt like a stab to the heart.

John saw my eyes welling up and assumed I was about to give in, waiting smugly with Olivia for my apology.

Instead, I shrugged and said, "Whatever! I don't care!"

John was taken aback, clearly not expecting my reaction.

The truth is, after my mom was hospitalized, John did find a doctor for her, but the doctor arrived the next day.

By then, my mom had already been pronounced dead.

If he had just glanced at a message or answered one of my calls, he would have known.

Instead, he was foolishly trying to use her death against me.

John stared at me for a moment, then suddenly let out a cold laugh and picked up his phone, putting it on speaker. "Dr. Sue, cancel Sierra's mother's surgery."

Dr. Sue paused before responding, "Mr. Davis, I'm very sorry, but Ms. Lynn's mother has already passed away. I regret that I couldn't help more, and Ms. Lynn handled the funeral on her own, refusing our assistance."

"What?"

John's tall frame visibly shook.
